Hot off the presses!!!! I just got off the phone with WEBER AGAIN. I have been getting comments that Weber is made in China. Here is the up-to-date information. The Weber Genesis 2 and Spirit 2 are made in China. The discontinued red kettle was made in China. Everything else is made in the United States, and assembled in Illinois. Since this video is not about the Weber Genesis or spirit, the information is 100% accurate. Thank you
On webers facebook...weber states. " The Master Touch grills are assembled in the US using globally sourced parts. If you have any other questions please let us know. Thanks and happy grilling! GLOBALLY SOURCED PARTS...IS A CLUE..NOT. U.S. they no longer advertise Made in U.S. since they were sued in 2013 over manufacturing parts in china...and misleading customers...they settled out of court...
@@meatcranium4280 yeah but its corporate...tell u anything to keep the customers view of what the weber brand name signifies.... But any hoot...good review...make more...videos...there simple...and to the point
Great review. Very simple fix for the gap in the bottom ash bucket on the Expert Grill. I simply put a couple of washers under the mounting plates so the hooks mount up higher. The bucket now sits perfectly flush with no gap. I bought mine at Walmart on clearance for $49.00. I had to hammer out a few dents and clean up some rust, but it’s as good as new. I wouldn’t trade for the more expensive Weber.
Still rocking my 1986 model kettle out here in Australia. Made in Palatine, Illinois. It doesn't have cruise control or ABS, it's CLASSIC and cooks perfectly.
CRF1000L Aus Weber’s are built solid. This one so far seems to be built fairly good, with some really bad design flaws. I have fixed some of those issues, since I made this video. I will be hopefully posting that this weekend. I have 3 Weber’s, And those are the basic models, and they are great. Thanks for watching and the support brother
Yeah, I've never seen a knockoff kettle that ended up being as good as Weber either. Even the stuff they do that seems better on the surface often just creates bigger issues down the road. Great comparison. Thanks Chris.
Baby Back Maniac Agreed. The best thing is that grill grate. Weber Got it right and others try to duplicate, but just can’t. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Here in Texas, our Texas based store HEB has hill country fare grills. They're the same size. Very similar to the Expert one. It works great. It costed me 49.99 before tax compared to a Weber that's at 89.99
Watching this for the first time in June 2022. Im looking for a kettle grill and the Weber has skyrocketed in price over the past year or so. I think with a few mods this Expert Grill will serve me well.
I inherited my parents' Weber Kettle manufactured from 1973-1976. She's showing her age but still performs fantastically. I have replaced the cooking grate because I like the hinged variety over the stock and the charcoal grate. I regularly use if for smoking ribs and chicken. It's like an old friend!
Timothy Barrett the Expert grill definitely is not a family heirloom. Lol. Weber’s will stand the test of time. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
I purchased both grills. The expert grill appears to be better and can burn logs as fuel. I installed a heat shield and sealed the grill with gasket tape. Thanks for sharing.
Smoked Reb BBQ I am “That Neighbor”, the guy who is predictable, the guy who would rather BBQ than do his yard. Lol. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
I just picked up an expert grill, have only used it once but I didn't have an issue with the heat from the top handle. Also I will have to check but I think they tightened up the gap on the ash catch, i didn't notice one like yours I will have to double check. But like you I got mine for a discount because they forgot to take the sale tag off. Thanks for the video.
Great comparison! thanks for the video! No you have to make a video to see how it Cooks, can't wait to see that one! You get a thumbs-up as always and love your Channel!
Darin Loken I have been working on it today. I put a gasket around the Ash catcher, and I cut down a Grill Stone to fit it. I’ll be cooking and comparing soon. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Love my expert grill. Smoked a 7 bone prime rib roast and took it up to 500 last x mas and I can tell you the handle for the lid doesn't get hot and you don't need gloves. Meat comes out amazing with every cook.
Expert grill is my high heat grill, my hands are very use to handling hot to the touch things , my wife on the other hand not so much, she would find it pretty hot. I have to give the warning for the less rugged people out there. Lol.
Question on the Expert Grill. I've looked at this video a few times and I think I figured out a viable mod for the catch can to make it a lot more airtight. I see that the three hooks that hold the catch can are held by a nut and a bolt (from what I can see). So, what can be done (from what I can tell) is to get longer bolts, more nuts and washers. Then remove the old nuts/bolt and hooks. Install the longer bolts along with the nuts and a washer (or two or three). Then reinstall the hook over top of these nuts where the longer bolt is pertruding and then screw on the final nut. That should raise the hooks internally enough to close that gap quite a bit. Am I oversimplifying this? I realize since I have never seen one in person, I can't exactly understand all of the nuances, but that is what I see from what you are showing. I'm very interested in this grill due to the oval shape. I currently have a Megamaster Charcoal Kettle Grill and I absolutely love it (I offset smoke on it all the time), but been kicking around the idea of picking up this grill due to the dome shape so that I can perhaps smoke some beer can chicken. Thoughts on the mod?
Playtawin The video I did after this one, or maybe the one after that is the one where I did mods to it. Your solution sounds good and all, however I just put a BIG GREEN EGG gasket around the rim, and that sealed it up. Thanks for the support and watching
We bought the Expert Grill a few months ago over the Weber. You can adjust the gap on the bottom easily, and, IMO, the system is a TON better than the tip and pinch on the Weber. Cooking on it is great, the gauge is accurate on the grill, and I have been able to set and maintain temp with it for hours at a time. The charcoal baskets are holding up well, and it cooks great! Works great as a smoker too, offset cooking is easy to set up and maintain, and the two baskets are great since you can set the meat in the middle and have heat on both sides if you like. Also, the handle is high enough that you do not feel the heat on your skin when removing it, even with the charcoal blasting heat at 500+ in the kettle. I say try it, it appears well built to me and it cooks good! Why not save a hundred bucks and get a grill that, if maintained, will last for years.
Dave Courington I will be exploring all that. My reviews are my opinion of what I see when I first assemble. I will be doing a seasoning of it this weekend. I will report all my findings and correcting anything that needs corrected. I appreciate you letting me know, it helps me in gathering more information. Thanks
The Goofy Dad Golfer I used a BGE gasket material around the opening. I show you how in my mods video, which is the next one after this video. Thanks for the support and watching
THANKS FOR THE VID! I went to Walmart yesterday figuring to pick up a Weber charcoal grill in the $100 - $200 price range. They were out of stock, but I scoped out an Expect Grill (this model here) for $97. So far so good. I like it.
Paul Taurone I hope that they have corrected the problems pointed out in this video. Overall the main unit seems to be thick metal and hopefully can last. Keep an eye on them leg brackets on the inside, if you start to see signs of rust pull them out and replace with stainless steel. Like anything, if you take care of it, it will last. Thanks for the support and watching Brother.
@@meatcranium4280 Thanks for responding mate. And thanks for the advise on the grill legs. I too like to analyze and evaluate all the pros and cons of a newly purchased product. My new grill seems to be consistent, concerning the flaws that you pointed out in your vid; I see no quality improvements. And yes, I noticed the air space which is visible at the top of the ash catcher. --- I too have developed a set of skills pertaining to public speaking and relations, and your vids are quite good. You handle yourself quite well in front of the camera and your editing provides a nice, easy to watch, flow. --- GRILL ON MATE!!!
Great video bro!!! Man the only thing I hate about the "other" grills are that the accessories don't work on them. I like a LOT about that grill too but the investment in accessories alone will never have people jump ship from the Weber movement. REGARDLESS, you covered these grills nicely bro. Awesome job!!!
The Dawgfatha's BBQ Thanks mane. I have a charcoal basket, cut down a grill stone to fit, and fixed the ash pan gap ( I hope) with a BGE GASKET. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
I picked up an expert grill for $36 at Walmart. Already have a Weber kettle. The expert grill cooks just as good. I know people are complaining about the air gap. But if your food comes out wrong on the expert, it’s not the grill! Even with its imperfections. Maybe i got lucky. But if i didn’t have my Weber and only had this i would be totally fine. I do love my Weber. But if you actually start using the expert you’ll be fine. Let’s not get too cute with these things. If you know what you’re doing you’ll be fine with either one.
I bought the expert grill from Walmart a few weeks ago. I have used it several times. The thermometer was really accurate. I was able to easily control my temp at 250 to 275 using the snake method for 9 hours. My pork butt was the best one I've ever smoked. I recommend this grill whole heartedly I love mine.
Jamie Larmore I’m going to dig into it further. I corrected the Ash PAN gap with a BGE GASKET around the opening, I also cut down a grill stone to fit, and I put a ring in there to keep charcoal organized like a basket. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
@@meatcranium4280 The gaps in mine aren't all that bad the small lip hanging down from the bottom of the bowl blocks most of the airflow. Also when you put the grease catch basket on and off if you can do it while the lid is open and look from the top it is so much simpler.
Jamie Larmore I think I have it corrected. If you keep the bottom completely shut, and the top vent is how you would adjust the temps , then you have a lot of airflow coming in from the gap on the bottom
@@meatcranium4280 the most aggravating feature of the ash basket for me was the bar that runs across the middle. Makes it hard to clean out and hard to get foil in the bottom if you use foil.
Cooking with Kory THANKS NEBROSKI. I want to make sure that the consumer is very well armed when making their decision. Thanks for watching and the support
A true grill master thrives no matter what grill they use. I’ve out cooked people with a $17.99 Family Dollar grill. That being said I purchased this expert grill 9-28. Entering a competition and I’ll update with my thoughts.
This grill definitely serves an purpose, however with the leaks it is hard to control temps. I think the metal is good and I do like the 4 legs. Hopefully they have corrected some of these issues. The one I have is 1st generation. Thanks for the support and watching
Would like to see you do a cook compair with the 2 grill. I purchased the expert grill about a month ago and have gotten good results so far. One side note, there's no problem with burning your hand that top handel, it is raised up high enough that it doesn't need the shield. I think for the price its a great grill and good alternative to Weber. I do appreciate finally seeing someone do a review on this grill. Looking forward to more videos.
Kelvin Hooks I will be doing it, however I need to modify my grill stone to fit. I will update the Handle thing as I use. The review is my impressions and how I see it. I will clarify as I go. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Saw this at Walmart and was trying to figure out the difference, as this one is much cheaper. Thanks for the excellent comparison! You made my decision much easier to make.
Weber is the only way to go for me. I was thinking about getting a pellet grill last year but couldn’t make up my mind then Weber announced the smoke fire now I’m back on the pellet market.
Sillery343 I watched a video a little while ago on the Weber pellet. It has huge design flaws. Look at the Spider 22 pellet adapter for the Weber 22. I did a review video, and I have a Brisket video coming out Saturday using the Spider22. Just giving you options brotha.
MeatCranium BBQ AND REVIEW I appreciate your input. I always wait a year or two for one the price sometimes comes down and two let them get all the flaws out that they can. I just need more cooking space I’ll definitely check out the spider video.
Good video, good pros and cons. Competition is good for the consumer. For the price point it seems like a decent grill, maybe Weber will step up their game. I pretty much only use my no frills original Weber kettle for smoking, I don’t use any thing other than foil and bricks to make it indirect heating and put a water pan on top of the grate for moisture. I wouldn’t mind having a Weber Smokey Mountain, but IMO way over priced.
HEY MEAT, man that was a awesome comparison, I really enjoyed that video a lot , you really explained in detail the pro's and cons of the two grills, if I had my choice I would pick the Weber hands down but I understand why you bought the other grill because all in all it is a fine little grill. AWESOME JOB MY FRIEND. GOD BLESS YOU.!!!
Joe's Smokehouse & Bar-B-Que I do reviews and I want people to be educated before spending there hard earned money on a grill. Yeah I would go toward the side of Weber, however I can make this grill a lot of fun. MODS MODS MODS AND MORE MODS. Thanks for the support and watching Brother. God Bless you
It's a good review and comparison Meat. Walmart probably had this grill made for pennies on the dollar for average 2 or 3 cooks a summer people that want to save money....and it works.
I drilled new holes for the ash catcher and mounted the circular bars down a bit (measured 3 times, drilled once), closed the orignal ones up with pop-rivets. I was able to get it to seal pretty darn good.
You nailed the biggest point for the Weber clones for me is they don’t fit all of the after market accessories, where that’s always a big advantage for the kettles, they’re a great blank canvas. All in all it looks like it could be a great deal for someone if you can sure up that gap around the ash can
Cookout Coach I’m thinking of ways to fill in that gap without it costing to much, may BGE GASKET MATERIAL. Yeah? Maybe? The accessories thing is a bummer. My Side shelf doesn’t even fit. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Go to Sam's club and look at this kettle. This is what I purchased before I just recently got a used Weber from Craigslist and I can say that members mark kettle is a steal for the price, especially now that it's on sale for $80. Plus every Weber accessory I've used works on the members mark kettle. www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/product.jsp?productId=prod21452474&mobiledetect=false&pid=092410_RFI|ANDROID|Featured_Products|Member's%20Mark%2022.5%22%20Kettle%20Grill
R AYALA Members mark is a 22.5 inch Like the Weber. This Expert Grill is a 22 inch Kettle, so non of the accessories fit. I just cut down a grill stone to fit. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Thanks for the video. Good info. I have used Kingsford 22 inch kettle for many years. Love it. Best features are the hinged lid and the built in shelf which can be used for warming or cooking. Weber is becoming totally dominant in the grill biz although I think their features are limited in some ways (I would not have a grill which doesn't have a hinged lid) Only reason I started exploring the world of grills is that Weber is so dominant now that other brands may soon be put out of business.
I always enjoy watching your content.. I was sold until I seen the vent system/ash catcher.. Love the 4 legs and the high dome lid.. Awesome review.. Thx
Joe's BBQ House I think I may have solved that problem with the ash catch system. I have some big green egg gasket that I put around that hole And it seems to have filled it in pretty good, I will be trying it out, soon. Thanks for watching and the support brother
Fire Escape Griller I was thinking beer can chicken as well or a two tier system for the grates. Weber has been around since 1893 for reason. Thanks for watching and the support brother
Great review as always fellow Chris! I was really pulling for the Expert Grill at the start, but after seeing some of the cons, especially that huge gap at the bottom vent, I wouldn't consider buying it.
Great in-depth review as always! I really like how you do all of your research ahead of time and always point out the good and bad. Just the facts man, just the facts. LOL Thanks Chris
Grate Meals BBQ Exactly. I always want to give the best information that I Can provide, so the consumer can make the best educated purchase. Thanks for watching and the support brother
decipher5121 I’ve needed to Do mods and I need to do more. There are a lot of really dumb design flaws I’m discovering. Thanks for the support and watching
I bought 2 of the expert kettle grill at $64 each, the grill is very good except with the dust basket not having a tight seal, other then that it’s good quality will last a very long time, I like how the grill is a deeper bowl and lid the 4 legs , and the price, even if the price is $99 I would buy it
The Weber is going to save you more money by having a better seal, when u seal off all vents on a weber it will put out the coal so you can use it another day on my expert grill all the coals burn out every time.
Me personally I like the expert grill. The $20 grill from Walmart, I I have two of them hopefully to get two more. I use them like burners on the stove. The one that you’re reviewing kinda egg shaped I think for better smoking ability. At my Walmart it’s about $97.00 Weber on the other hand is about $165.00. In the past my $20.00 grills only lasted about 3yrs, but I live north of the Mason-Dixon line were we get a lot of snow and ice rainy day. My $20.00 grills use to come with hinges it seems like they put the money in to packaging. One more thing Char broiler makes a similar to the Expert Grill 22" Superior Kettle Grill. Just starting my channel thanks for all your great Advice on Bbq Hey keep it smoking
Grillin with Greg Greg Yeah I haven’t tried the $20 ones yet, and probably never will. I have so many smokers now five bring anything home, my wife will shoot me. LOL. I start working on mods and corrections on the superior 22 inch grill by expert Grill right after I made that video. I will be giving an update video either this week or next week. Thanks for watching and support. Congrats on starting your own channel
Great review of both grills! Details of both grills were very helpful in deciding which is best to buy. It's an eye opener for name brand products. One being more expensive than the other really helps in deciding and showing that the most expensive is not always the right one to buy. Thanks for the comparison information. 8)
bought 1 of these like 2 weeks ago. price was marked wrong it was supposed to be 97 bucks but we got it for 74 bucks. the first one we bought i had it 99 percent done and discovered the lid was tweaked so i had to do a return. was mad as hell but so far i love it
Germanico Sorgi it’s serviceable, however I can tell the difference between it and the Weber Kettle. I may try to do a few more things with it, but I may relegate it to a rotisserie grill. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Well, I have about three pounds of boneless, skinless bluegill fillets in the fridge. As for the grill, that does look to have one PITA of an ash catcher. It also would be hard to damp down your fire with that huge air gap. I have no doubt that you will make it perform; even if you have to modify it somewhat. After all, as long as a cooker will contain meat and hold heat - you can cook on it. It's just up to the individual buyer as to how much convenience, efficiency, and product longevity they are willing to pay for.
handcannon I put a BGE Gasket around the Ash catcher rim and it seems to be much better. That’s a heck of a haul you got, man I Love BlueGill. O’Yeah I also cut down one of My Grill Stones to fit this grill. I will be Cookin on it soon. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Nice review. My kettle is many years old and does not have a heat shield under the handle and that has never really proven to be a problem. Kinda funny talking about wanting to buy "Made in USA' and Walmart in the same video. I recall reading that about 80% of products sold in Walmart are made/sourced from China.
My expert grill has been working great. It does just what I bought it to do. grill hot dogs, hamburgers and steaks. I already have a stick burner smoker. I just needed a grill. Thanks for the info .
Nice job Meat. Nockoffs are always cheaper from cutting corners. Can't wait for you to fire it up. Will you have any control of air flow with all the gaps?
David B I just put A BGE GASKET around the ash pot and it seems to work really Good, and I cut down a GRILL STONE to fit. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
I just got the gas 6 burner EXPERT GRILL (I still need to assamble it) I was surprised with the 5 burner I saw at the store. The cuality for the price..That is VALUE. I am so impressed that I am watching this video to see more about Expert Grill
roadkillalchemizt Expert Grill is a Cheaper brand however the thickness of the metal is really nice. Like anything else in life, if you take card of it, it will last. Thanks for the support and watching Brother.
PAPA Texas I have already started on The mods and they seem to be fitting great. I do love My Weber and they have been around a long time for a reason. Thanks for the support and watching PT
Very nice comparison. I've always wondered about the Walmart grills. From all your negatives, the ash pan gap is the one thing stopping me from possibly getting one. I was wondering if the SNS would fit (not that I'd buy one) but if it didn't and I wanted something like that I'd use the Expert Grill charcoal baskets and make Daddy Dutch's "bro 'n sear."
Tom's Food Factory I’m going to use the BGE or Lava Lock Gaskets to fill in that gap and see how it goes. I have been thinking of other mods as well. I think I can definitely improve it but it’s going to take a few bucks. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Great review! Some things I noticed. With the exhaust vent you could probably bend the stop tab or just cut it so it closes all the way. The expert grill does have a deeper bowl for more charcoal but the food grate sits at the very top of bowl where as the Weber sits maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches below the lip of the bowl. I actually like the air intake design but not sealing to the bowl is a major no go ( maybe some kind of grill gasket could make up the difference). All in all for 97$ I think I'd stick with the Weber
I put a BGE lid Gasket around the ash pot/ air intake and it seems a lot better now. I also cut down a Grill Stone to fit. I will be doing a cook on it soon. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Cool video. I believe the Weber cooking grate on the kettle is actually nickel coated steel. I’ll stick with Weber but I’m sure that expert grill cooks just fine. Keep up the good work brother!
Bill Dobberpuhl I have Stainless Steel Grates for my Weber, but your probably correct on the Stock ones for Weber. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
I bought this Grill Master. It is a Wal-Mart brand or made just for Wal-Mart. If Sam was still running the show it would have been made in the USA. Soon as he passed away the kids took over and the entire made in the USA went out the window. They were more interested in profit then helping the American economy. I have 3 major issues with it. 1. The ash can is a pain to work at first. I got used to it but it's easy to knock off the pegs and sometimes you don't notice. Then there is the airflow issue as you said. 2. The vent on top doesn't seal very well. It slows the heat from leaving but not that well. I'm hoping over time the build up around it will help it seal. 3. Because of the venting issue it goes through charcoal allot faster than even my Charbroil did. If I'm doing ribs, I have to get the second charcoal basket going on another grill then switch them out. What a pain! Since the kettle is taller and deeper cooking burgers and dogs you have to use more charcoal than you should then the extra burns up because you can't shut off the air flow. The tall handle does keep you from the heat but it is awkward to handle due to it being so tall. And that is my 2 cents or more! lol Great review! You got a new subscriber and looking forward to more. I'll be going back and checking out your other videos. Always looking for other's ways of grillin!
Great review, thanks! I did not know about some of the accessories you showed, like the slow and sear. My only issue is, I don’t have to get an Expert grill. I’ve had my Weber kettle for 14 years. I’ve replaced a grate and the rubber toe on the Weber kettle tripod. After about a thousand uses, and some terrible abuse by me (dropping the lid x*y times), it still works pretty much the same as it did back in 2005. I’m wondering if the Expert would hold up as well over that length of time. After all, I had 2 or 3 grills burn through in a couple of years before I bought the Weber.
Great review, I’ve noticed them in the store and was impress with what you were impressed with and disappointed in what you were disappointed with. Good grate, bad ash catcher etc. I like kettle grills and have been tempted to buy it. This review has removed that temptation. I have the Members Mark Grill, Sam’s club brand. It too has four legs. Four legs is better than three only if the ground is exactly level. Since I usually grill in the grass in my back yard I prefer my kettle grills with three legs. Hard to find an area wear the four legged one doesn’t rock.
Big Lew BBQ As I dig into this grill the more disappointed I am. It is thick metal, however that ash catcher is a design mess. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Dunno, my experience was different re: the ash catcher- mine fits snug, no gap. At all. Additionally, the removal of the ash catcher? Again, user dependent, but I find it quite simple- it's a "three point contact" operation, by "eyeeballing" simply kinda align the teeth to the hooks prior, insert, and drop the pan in. I looked again at your struggles at the 15:10 mark and smiled as my experience was nothing like this. Again, depends on the user and there may be slight variances per unit in fit and finish that affect this, but I'm just speculating. All said, it's horses for courses, your mileage may vary, but I didn't find enough difference in quality and product to justify $219 for the base Weber kettle vs the $89 I paid for this grill. Others may feel differently, I'm sure both will offer satisfactory results
A very good and detailed review. After viewing it, the Weber looks like a better fit and finish although there are some nice features on the Expert Grill like the thicker grill grates. Those baskets on the Expert look like galvanized Tin but I don't think you can cook on Galvanized tin. That is odd though. I didn't like that ash catcher at all. It is hard finding products made in USA anymore. I always try to buy it over others if I find it.
Southern Food Junkie The expert grill kettle Looks like it was hurried up and the design in process and assembly. Weber is usually a sure bet. Thanks for the support and watching brother
I started with a Masterbuilt that used to be sold by home depot. The masterbuilt is a little nicer than the expert in this video. Withing 6 months I got a Weber Master Touch. Its about to have its 4th birthday using it at least once a week. I have to say its bullet proof. I gave the masterbuilt to a friend it was gone in less than 2 years. I would add that the Master Touch is considerably taller than the Weber origional or classic whatever its called. The only real problem with MT is the price up to 220.00. But considering it lasts a lifetime without alot of care and maintenance I guess once again you get what you pay for. Mine is still like a new one.
I have the QOMOTOP Charcoal Grill, 22.5 inch I just got it. I have yet to put the thing together though. But I have opened it up and checked it out and the lid and bottom part feel pretty sturdy. I can't wait to make corn cob and chicken and burgers a long with hot dogs. fish is going to be on here to. Might try a whole chicken one day. See if it will work. Great review on these grill.
My first grill was the expert grill kettle with the hinged locking lid that didn't seal at all, it was probably one of their first models. Attempting to smoke a brisket on that was my culinary school. These look much better.
Don’t like the rivets at all. Spin it DJ! Hahaha😝. I agree with the vent placement. That sucks for accessories!. Hahaha😝. Weber kettle is boss! Awesome char broil! Great review bro!
Cooking With James Well, I think I may fixed the ash can gap, I trimmed one of my grill stones to fit, and I have a ring for my coals now. Now to get it all working together. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Dj Meat in the house! you get what you pay for sinerio.if weber should go to a study 4 leg set up and a lid hinge.but thats for my needs being in a wheelchair.looking forward to a cook review.
East Coast Tony you can get a lid Hinge from Unknownbbq.com a 4 leg set up would be good, however when it comes to Weber, if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Good review. By the way you installed the bottom rack on the expert grill upside down. The smooth side of the rack is supposed to be up with the reinforcement cross pieces below. Makes it a lot easier to slide stuff across the rack.
I know a Weber sales representative and he told me last week that they are made in China. They may be assembled in the USA but not made. They have shaved the cost out of the product, but still sell at their normal prices.
nigeace I called a 3rd time and they stand by there statement. They have some parts made In China but a vast majority is made in Murica. Thanks for the support and watching
I saw this side by side with the Weber in Walmart and I noticed the grate differences fairly quickly. Many differences pointed out I actually really like. The dome shape being one . I don't think anyone should have to modify something they just bought but I would be curious what a few rather simple tweaks could do to change some of those negatives and potentially raise that bang for the buck factor.
I saw that grill a couple months ago at Wally's, too. It looked to be well-built. The dome lid is certainly higher, may be good with a two-tier grate. I look forward to your review. I may not see it until evening, though. I may need to go fishin' tomorrow morning. (No formal church, but God is more than welcome to come along ... I can use all the help I can get).
handcannon God is always with me, especially when fishing. That’s why I’m at such peace. I think I covered all the bases with this review, it’s interesting to say The least. Thanks for commenting. I’ll see ya tomorrow
The only thing I don’t like about my expert grill is the ash catcher sits about 1/4” below the bottom of the grill, allowing air in at that point and the slide lever on the bottom won’t completely cover the holes, allowing air in there. It wastes a lot of charcoal that continues to burn after you finish cooking. Any suggestions??
I actually talked about this and did a simple mod to correct it. I used the felt gasket for a big green egg to go around the rim of the kettle where the ash catcher sits, and I used magnets to cover the holes of the ash catcher when the slide is fully closed. When you close the slide to choke off the air flow on the ash catcher, it still has an opening, and you put the magnets over those holes. Thanks for the support and watching.
So what your calling charcoal baskets in my directions called them wood chips baskets. Not intended to actually have charcoal in them in the first place. Baskets go out against the sides , charcoal goes on the rack between the baskets. That's how I use mine and it works great and baskets are in perfect shape.
aaron wood Yeah these are charcoal basket, however you can use them in any configuration. Weber has baskets that come with there’s and they are called Charcoal Baskets
@@robertdewallace4927 right on. On mine it showed to put the charcoal on the rack in the bottom and put the wood chips in the baskets. I guess to keep the chips from falling through the rack or grate rather. That wood be my guess. Makes sense.
Another awesome show Meat. I'll stick with Weber, that said and I could be mistaken but I thought Weber was sold a few years back and is now made overseas... Like I said I could be mistaken. Anyhow. Great show as usual. Enjoy
The Gallery Backyard BBQ I called Weber before making this video and they assured me that there products are made here in the good ole USA 🇺🇸. I have some tinkering to do with this grill however I think I can Make it very serviceable. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
I have had a Weber kettle for years and it’s still in 100% condition. Another thing I can say you can’t beat Weber service and warranty. Weber for life!
I like the Weber Genesis line for gas cooking as my grill is solid and performs well. Disappointed to hear its made in China. As a resident of Illinois, Weber you need to make these back at home, where it all started !
USA USA USA 🇺🇸!!!!! Another phenomenal review on these 2 kettles! As i was watching i was looking forward towards your cons va the pros! Since the cons out weighs the pros i would say that i m probably not interested in getting this kettle at this point due to the ash catcher issues! My older kettle does not have heat deflector shield either but i have gotten use to it! The pros that stuck out for me is the metal grade is thicker and heavier but the ash catcher gap is a deal breaker right there because as a regular consumer won’t know why his/hers temps are not accurate because of that gap! Unless they come out with a 2.0 then maybe but thanks for the ins/outs about this! At my Walmart they were sold at 74 but not sure if they rang at 99? Great job brotha! Cheers and keepbbqing
Smokin’ Jazz Bbq I just put a BGE GASKET around the opening and I think I fixed it . I’m also working on cutting down a grill stone to fit as well. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Jim Crookston I called Weber Before making this video, and they assured me they were made in the USA. If that is wrong, then they gave me wrong information.
@@meatcranium4280. Thanks. I was referring to the Expert Grill. Sorry if that wasn't clear. I believe the Weber kettle is still made here in USA (with the exception of the red limited edition). I do think Weber gets some of the parts (like grates) from China but that's a small part of the total value. The US content is why I will stick with the Weber kettle and will stay away from Expert Grill.
The benefit of 3 legs orbpoibtsbof contact versus 4, 3 points of contact will never wobble even on uneven surfaces. A 4th point of contact will allow a wobble
Aaron El I noticed the opposite. My 4, now 3 Webers all wobble more. In the grand scheme of things it’s a very minor issue. Just something I wanted to point out. a dog gets around fine with 3 legs, however 4 is ideal
Wal-Mart expert 22" grill is a great value. I've owned several Weber grills through the year's. So what that the tires are plastic, it's a grill made for sitting still and stable. Solid heavy steel and stainless steel construction. Your BBQ will taste the same with either grill. So why buy the expert grill? Because at Lowe's the same quality grill with temp. Gauge on the lid was $165. The expert grill was $84 at Walmart. Note, when you assemble the legs you'll see ea. Leg marked 1-4 it's stamped in the steel you just have to look on the side of the leg. Assembly was easy, use a med. Sz. Lock wrench and med. Phillips driver and your good to go.
I’ve owned a propane expert grill, lasted a year before it started to disintegrate. Replaced the gas line within a year. Fuel rail was too close to the cooking grate. For $88, it got plenty of use. Now I have a Weber 22” and I’m satisfied. Also I can promise you the charcoal basket that’s included with the charcoal expert grill won’t last a year.
I love my Weber, have had it for nearly 14 years. Last year I decided to get a Stok Drum. The Stok is very impressive and has more features than the Weber.
Comfortably Roughing It I’ve heard slot of mixed reviews on the Stok, and generally nothing negative about Weber, except the legs, those SUCK. Lol. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
Trippingonfaith ! I found one on the curb someone was throwing out with cover on it, and I purchased my other 3 on ENAY very cheap. Weber is great. Thanks for the support and watching
Thank you
Thanks Chris for the update!
On webers facebook...weber states.
" The Master Touch grills are assembled in the US using globally sourced parts. If you have any other questions please let us know.
Thanks and happy grilling!
GLOBALLY SOURCED PARTS...IS A CLUE..NOT.
U.S.
they no longer advertise Made in U.S. since they were sued in 2013 over manufacturing parts in china...and misleading customers...they settled out of court...
ty Y I called them on Monday at that was there official statement to me.
@@meatcranium4280 yeah but its corporate...tell u anything to keep the customers view of what the weber brand name signifies....
But any hoot...good review...make more...videos...there simple...and to the point
ty Y it could be they source once washer made in china and at that point they can no longer say made in us...
They cost a million $ in Aus.
Ritesh Verma the master touch plus is 599 not too bad considering the new smoking features.
The summit or big ceramic cookers are a million though...
Happy Cooker.
Here in Texas, our Texas based store HEB has hill country fare grills. They're the same size. Very similar to the Expert one. It works great. It costed me 49.99 before tax compared to a Weber that's at 89.99
Thanks! Your video helped me choose the Expert Grill.
The lid has a date code! Know your webers birthday and give her a good cook!
I purchased both grills. The expert grill appears to be better and can burn logs as fuel. I installed a heat shield and sealed the grill with gasket tape. Thanks for sharing.
I can see your neighbors now. There he goes knocking on his grills again. lol, thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers!
Smoked Reb BBQ I am “That Neighbor”, the guy who is predictable, the guy who would rather BBQ than do his yard. Lol. Thanks for the support and watching Brother

Tom Horsman THANKYOU sir. I appreciate you joining the premier. Thanks for the support and watching
Did you ever confirm if there was a gap?
Thanks
I just bought an Expert Kettle Grill and got it together and had the same thoughts on the gap on the bottom. So how did you adjust it?
The Goofy Dad Golfer I used a BGE gasket material around the opening. I show you how in my mods video, which is the next one after this video. Thanks for the support and watching
@@meatcranium4280 I just watched it! I am going to try that! Thanks!
The Goofy Dad Golfer YW
Paul Taurone thank you for your support great comments.
If you know what you’re doing you’ll be fine with either one.
kevin rutledge very true statement. Thanks for the support and watching
@Adam Rosenzveig I've been able to keep mine around 250, 275 I close the bottom completely and just use the vent on top.
Excellent vid, Chris! Very informative as usual.

Jonathan Robinson your welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it
Weber is the pick, hands down no comparison

Can’t wait to see this video, I have been looking at that grill from Walmart to add to my collection.
I said the same thing. Lol. 9 minutes out
Good video, good pros and cons.
Crazy Talk Time!! agreed. That’s all you need.

I drilled new holes for the ash catcher and mounted the circular bars down a bit (measured 3 times, drilled once), closed the orignal ones up with pop-rivets. I was able to get it to seal pretty darn good.
Nice. I like the ingenuity.
Just found your channel and you did a great job. Liked and Subscribed 👍👍
GatorMan Ruth THANKYOU very much
You nailed the biggest point for the Weber clones for me is they don’t fit all of the after market accessories, where that’s always a big advantage for the kettles, they’re a great blank canvas.

@@meatcranium4280 Great idea..! I bet that'll work..
Great comparison vid! The higher domed lid on the Expert Grill would be better for beer can chicken. That said, I'd take the Weber any day.
Fire Escape Griller I was thinking beer can chicken as well or a two tier system for the grates. Weber has been around since 1893 for reason. Thanks for watching and the support brother
Never thought about. My B.C.C. always hit the lid on my W.K. good point.
Great review as always fellow Chris! I was really pulling for the Expert Grill at the start, but after seeing some of the cons, especially that huge gap at the bottom vent, I wouldn't consider buying it.

This is another reason I love my Weber.
Just starting my channel thanks for all your great Advice on Bbq
Hey keep it smoking
Grillin with Greg Greg Yeah I haven’t tried the $20 ones yet, and probably never will. I have so many smokers now five bring anything home, my wife will shoot me. LOL. Great review of both grills! Details of both grills were very helpful in deciding which is best to buy. It's an eye opener for name brand products. One being more expensive than the other really helps in deciding and showing that the most expensive is not always the right one to buy. Thanks for the comparison information. 8)
Just8Ate The Weber actually came out on top. The Expert Grill needs to improve. Thanks for the comment
Only additional I did was I bought Oklahoma Joe grill tape for the Expert Grill ash catcher and lid to minimize the air flow.
bought 1 of these like 2 weeks ago. price was marked wrong it was supposed to be 97 bucks but we got it for 74 bucks. the first one we bought i had it 99 percent done and discovered the lid was tweaked so i had to do a return. was mad as hell but so far i love it
Germanico Sorgi it’s serviceable, however I can tell the difference between it and the Weber Kettle.

I've got a Weber Bar B Kettle from the 60s. Works great . Avocado Green.
And that is my 2 cents or more! lol
Great review! You got a new subscriber and looking forward to more. I'll be going back and checking out your other videos. Always looking for other's ways of grillin!
My local walmart has dozens and dozens of these, waiting for them to drop to about 40 or 50 dollars
lyle swavel With some work/modifications they can be decent. However nothing beats a Weber. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
if you dint mind, let us know if they do
Great review, thanks!
P Grant I’m gonna find that out Brother. Thanks for the support and watching
@@meatcranium4280 I agree with that assessment from watching your video. Thanks for sharing!
Generally, the Weber grates were chrome steel, which rusted.
I would bet the vast majority of kettles are used on level ground, or a patio in the back yard.
Good review. By the way you installed the bottom rack on the expert grill upside down. The smooth side of the rack is supposed to be up with the reinforcement cross pieces below. Makes it a lot easier to slide stuff across the rack.
Peter O'Brien I’ll check it out. I’m seasoning it as I type. I haven’t noticed. Thanks for the heads up
Wish we had the different colour Webber's in Australia. Love the bronze look
Big_B_Views I’m going to dig into it further and see what I can do to improve it. Thanks for the support and watching Brother
MeatCranium BBQ AND REVIEW Thank you. Right now I have aluminum foil stuffed in that crack at the top of the ash catcher.
Saralyn Harder With a felt gasket problem solved. I did a video on it.
Those basket are definitely for charcoal. Fill with coals and add a few pieces of smoker wood. And then u can do low and slow smoking
Weber for life!
acmf74 You are correct. I would have to agree. Thanks for the support and watching
I got mine at Walmart in Rochester NY for $60!!! Shelf tag said $97. Upon check out it was $60! Today!
The only reason I go to Wal Mart is to feel skinny and smart.
WOW!! Lol! Very funny. I tend to agree there.
Lmao 😂😂😂
I have all weber models for a long time, and I think this Expert Grill for the price is a better grill.
I like the Weber Genesis line for gas cooking as my grill is solid and performs well. Disappointed to hear its made in China. As a resident of Illinois, Weber you need to make these back at home, where it all started !
Captain's Table MDR I couldn’t agree more
USA USA USA 🇺🇸!!!!!
Actually, it's made in China.
Jim Crookston I stated this in the Video towards the end. I also just pinned my own comment explaining this. Thanks
Just a thought but are the grill grate brackets upside down? If you had them the other way would the grate sit a little Lower in the bowl?
chisel83 No that’s the way the instructions showed to put them on. Thanks for the support and watching
Thanks for the video still haven't stopped laughing.
I haven’t watched it in a while, and can’t recall the funny stuff. Lol. Thanks for the support and watching Brother. I’m glad you enjoyed it
Great review and great comparing👍👍😁
BENJAWAN HOME Thank you very much. I do my best
@MeatCranium BBQ AND REVIEW I love watching about cooking and food👍👍👍
Cary VerHalen Thanks brother, good stuff.
Does anyone know if the weber's 21-1/2" diameter grill grate fits on the Expert charcoal grill? Any insights would be appreciated. Thank you!
They are not compatible. Thanks for the question
@@meatcranium4280 thanks for the quick response. And thanks for the excellent video review/comparison.
Bought all my Weber’s used 1 18”wsm 2x22” kettles 1 18” jumbo joe all together $225 they all are great!
Trippingonfaith ! I found one on the curb someone was throwing out with cover on it, and I purchased my other 3 on ENAY very cheap. Weber is great. Thanks for the support and watching
