    I would definitely put in a law suit, not just for discrimination but for withholding medication and for mistreating you. Maybe contact the embassy again or the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

    I was stopped in 1990 at the U.K. border basically for being a goth. He had to let me in though because I was US military at the time stationed in Germany, and therefore had permission to travel freely through all NATO countries. It was rather fun to see his face fall when I'm there in makeup and all and give him my military ID instead of a passport. You have my sympathies.

    Due to my profession I really can't dress the way that I like to anymore, but I remember when I was younger I loved dressing with gothic style. Basically anything that fit into gothic or emo clothing I owned and loved to wear.... I went into a dollar store once and I was just getting some snacks when all of a sudden the manager comes up to me while I'm in the checkout line. He said that somebody reported me shoplifting and he had the right to search me. He straight felt me up and he was digging his hands into my pockets and I literally had to shove him off of me! The man in front of me in line grabbed me (gently) by the shoulder and brought me behind him, facing the manager and calling the cops. There was this huge scene and in the end they did NOTHING about it even after the man who's physically protected me reported that the manager was touching me inappropriately. In fact, the cops tried to search me for any shoplifted material! I know it doesn't stack up at all to what you've been through, but it really sucks that so many people discriminate based on somebody's looks or style...

      Why be ashamed? It should be good that you guys have border patrol as strict as it is. Yes it's sad that someone innocent couldn't get in to the UK, but imagine all the other horrible people out there that could have gotten entry to the UK by saying "I don't know what I'm planning to do here for 3 months". There needed to be a better story than that. It's a business trip as someone making a living on TH-cam. It didn't seem unfair to me. Unfortunate, but not unfair.

      We all deserve better. The corrupt WM establishment serve only the multinational corporations, the banks and the military industrial complex.
      I for one support anyone wishing to break from that self serving system.
      It was always my hope that were we successful in 2014 that our rejection of that system would have a knock on effect and encourage others to follow suit, I believe WM feared that also.

      This 'you don't need a visa if you are coming from New Zealand' is 10 years out of date, she needed all of the evidence in a file ready, (bank account details, details of accommodation, full reason of visiting). You can't just come into another country for 3 months without a very good reason. She said she had 'no plans' but she had a very good reason for visit it's just that she didn't say. Instead of going 'I don't know' she should of said 'I am visiting to collaborate with people for my creative needs, planning meet up with fans from my TH-cam channel and traveling Across the UK.'

    • @STasugx
      @STasugx 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Masked Tactician I didn't need a visa to visit the UK, as an NZer I was able to visit for 6 months without one - I might have passed the border had I lied about my plans, rather than being honest and saying I "didn't really have any", ffs -___-;

    Don't fly to the London airports, they are NUTS. I am from the North so normally fly into one of the Northern English airports and because they are smaller, there is never ever a problem. However, when I flew into one of the London airports from Europe they were so so strict about security and acted really crappily and overly suspicious. I think you'd have more luck at the smaller airports.

    Ok... first of all, the US wouldn't even do that, which is why I find this disturbing considering our security here is on steroids.
    Secondly, what and when has a Goth ever done anything to harm another person when not under threat?! The fact that you were kept from your doctor prescribed medications is grounds for a lawsuit, hands down. Where you were wasn't a jail. It was an immigrant penitentiary/ prison, which is worse. The difference is that jails are for short durations until you're shipped to a penitentiary where they can hold you indefinitely. You would have been better off in a jail. My mother was a corrections officer, so I have had the disfortune of seeing it up, close and personal.

I've lived within the EU as an America and I was never been shown such disrespect. I don't know how things work legally much outside the U.S., but it seems that they searched and seized without a warrant? Can they do that? Either way, you should start a petition on change.org. What pisses me is her telling them over and over again that she had all the proof they needed of her support and her place to stay and they never listened to her or allowed her to do so....Oh, I would so sue, they would never hear the end of me....

    Dude, that's fucking awful :-/ Particularly refusing you medication, what the actual fuck - my biggest fear about travelling is medication issues - similar to you I have anxiety issues, plus being on a lot of really addictive shit that makes me horribly ill and demented if I miss a dose, so...jeez...absolute worst nightmare, really glad you're ok. Can't help being a little cynical about the Tory government in all of this - if you'd landed prior to the election, I'm guessing there might have been much less Immigrant Suspicion :-/ (but I've seen articles in the Independent about *hideous* conditions at immigrant holding centres - mental illness untreated, worse conditions than a jail, indefinite detention, no trials, absolute human rights clusterfuck, which is no doubt an element in David Cameron trying to slither out of the Human Rights Act...)
    When I went to America the passport gate guys were terrifying, just this aura of total menace, never smiling at anything you say - it is like being treated as a sub-human until you prove otherwise, so it's really shitty that they're like this on our end as well.... Hope you do manage to get to Scotland, somehow... And if you want any backup Rude Letters sent to anybody, from a Legitimate British Citizen, give me a message - Rude Letters are kind of my thing ;)

The security guy was starring at my Dad and I quickly explain me and my dad had massive aniexty issues about this stuff. He quickly smiled and nodded, sending us on our way with an apology. I don't think all airport security is dumb, they are trying to be careful, but I also think for her, they were probably judging her based on her appearance, which is bullshit.

    That nearly happened to me when I got to immigration in England. The person kept telling me that I didn't look like my passport photo. The only thing different in my passport photo was the length of my hair. I stood there for almost twenty minutes showing the person various forms of ID and explaining to her that I was with a student tour group and didn't know the names of my hotels. It was pretty ridiculous and the person wasn't even polite at all.

    That happened to me when I was 20. I had my passport, which I understood allowed me a six month stay. They questioned because I didn't have a return ticket, but had enough $$ to stay and to buy a ticket back home when it was time. It all went so terribly bad. I was also devastated...I was denied entry and detained with a bunch of non-English speakers. They sent me back to Atlanta, which was across the nation from where I needed to be. I paid cash for a ticket home from there and therefore that was suspicious and I was searched by the FDA. FML...so long ago, but I remember it very well. It's bullshit! LOL

    I am late to this video, and I never really leave comments, but this one struck a chord with me.
    When I was 17 I made a trip to Scotland. I had bank statements to prove I had (more than)enough to support my case going through customs.
    These never made it to light.
    When I got there I was almost immediately detained, simply because I did not have a return ticket booked. I had my suitcase searched in front of me (which contained a few unmentionables because, well, girls have needs; oh how fun it was to watch two male customs officers going through all of them!). I was then stuck in a holding cell (it might have even been the same room if it was Heathrow, even); this was a small room with a glass window to an officer that oversaw us and a handicap washroom that was quite large. There were several other people in there, but I didn't get to know any of them-- a little too preoccupied with not knowing what was going to happen to me, I imagine!
    I spent an inordinate amount of time crying my eyes out in this bathroom because, well, I was 17 and had no idea why this was happening. I must have spent almost the entire night in there before they told me I was being refused entry. I literally lost track of the hours after 6. I was horrified and nauseous and just an emotional wreck. The combination of being in the dark and not being able to contact anyone was certainly mentally taxing, and to find out I was simply being sent back after spending $1600 on the ticket made me a right grump on the way out. What a frightening experience!
    Long story short, I'm 26 now, but this still left a mark on me. I feel you, Black Friday!

    Different situation, but I got the third degree entering Japan because I was only staying in Tokyo for 3 nights. This is despite the fact that there are numerous entries in my passport showing that I've had short stopovers in various parts of Asia - and not been hassled once - but I think this was a case of a guy who needed to feel that he was doing his job. After going through my baggage, frisking me etc, he hit me with the standard 'You look nervous' line : they must teach that to every border force worker from Tassie to Timbuktu. By that stage, it was obvious that he had nothing and I was on my way - sorry to hear you werent treated with the same respect.

    I'm goth and live in Brighton, not far from London. Maybe about 1 and a half-2 hours. I feel like going up their and rubbing my septum piercing, studs and ripped clothes in their faces. Like, "Ha. I LIVE in the UK, Brighton. I'm goth. What you gonna do about it? Kick a 13 year old out the country for expressing myself. You disgusting pieces of filth didn't let my FAVORITE youtuber EVER in this country. What the hell is your problem. You'd probably arrest someone for being racist. Yet you discriminate alternative cultures and subcultures. What is the flipping difference??! I'm ashamed to be from the same area as you!". GRRRRG! This has made me soooo upset. Honestly I apologize, on behalf of the United Kingdom, for pur disgusting border security. xxxx Stay awesome!! 😄

    I am shocked by your story. I live in the US and if you had said this happened to you in America I would almost not be surprised but the UK? The fuck? I am so sorry, dear. You are a kind gentle person who didn't deserve to go through such bullshit. I'm sure Mr. Owl was not happy at all about that. I'm so glad you have good supportive people to rally around you. You DO deserve to have good people around you. You are absolutely worth it.

      Maybe I wouldn't have been surprised because I live here and I sort of know what happens here.. I always had a (unrealistic) view on England to be a very open-minded people. I guess there is discrimination anywhere you go. Again, I'm so sorry.

    • @Kpaine
      @Kpaine 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      KattyKorruption It should be shocking to hear about this anywhere in the world. No one should be discriminated because of how they look or whatever, but unfortunately it is one of those things we still need to be on the look out for and be aware of.

      K Paine Oh I totally agree. I live in a very religious state (Utah). You can't go a few blocks without seeing a LDS church. It's not rare for people to give you a weird look..and the occasional shouting/questioning happens. At least for the most part people are friendly though but I wouldn't be surprised if someone was harassed badly.

    Absolutely devastated for you, I genuinely feel sick to my stomach that this happened in my country. So glad you're safe and sound now. If you do manage to make another trip here, could you land in Manchester? The reason is Lancashire has a none discrimination policy towards goths, punks and alternative lifestyles as part of the S.O.P.H.I.E. case. Also I could be there in an hour if anything went wrong. I hope all is not lost and we can meet soon. Take care, I hope the kiwi ambassador kicks their ass!

    Honestly it's not always about how you look. If you don't know what you plan on doing of course they'll treat it as suspicious. A similar issue happened to me yet I'm not goth.

    I hope you can come back to the UK sometime and have a good experience again.
    As a British citizen I apologise unreservedly for your treatment. I know it doesn't mean much as I'm not anything to do with the people who treated you badly and it's been over a year since this experience, but I feel like I need to offer an apology.

    As an American, this is very disheartening... I have always wanted to visit and potentially live in the UK. I did tons of research and it is crazy how much i would need to go thru even just to live there 3 months. I would need to do tons of paperwork, get a work sponsor, a living sponsor and they also would need my level of education.. fun fact Friday, if you have a PHD or other doctorate, you are more likely to get a Visa. Which is so discriminating...
    But yeah, now with this virus thing going around, I dont plan on traveling anyways.

    I realise this video is quite old now, but I hope you know you aren't alone. I too was treated like a criminal when I flew from the UK to Detroit. I was in an online relationship and it being our first time meeting in person, of course red flags sounded when they heard that. It didn't go as far as prison thankfully, but the men dealing with me were incredibly arrogant, cocky and patronising, because they assume I'm trying to permanently move to their precious America. I now thank God that I never ended up living there and will never want to.

      Your situation is quite rare. Here in the US, despite verbal comments about immigration control, in reality they are extremely lax and it's very easy to get into this country and sponge off the US without ever having to be legal (ie: now it's fashionably and PC called "undocumented.") So yeah, rare indeed.

    I've had the same experience! I was leaving England (since I live there) and going to America, when they stopped me in my tracks after scanning my boarding pass, and asked me to get my bags and jacket off and place them on a table. After a thorough search and pat down, they finally allowed me to get through, but by that point it was too late for me to get on my flight! They had me rebooked and I had to wait for another 12 hours in the airport!
    They kept on saying "It's not your clothing, don't worry. It's just normal procedure." Um, well. Obviously not if I WAS THE ONLY BLOODY ONE YOU WERE DOING IT TO! A warning for anyone coming through Heathrow with an alternative style, be warned. It may backfire onto you if you are dressed too "wow".

Maybe they were searching for a specific criminal individual and you happened to fit the description? Or they gave had some threats to security and you stuck out? I really don't want to believe they did it out of hate, for fun or out of boredom or sadism.
