You are so talented. Yes, I would sit here all day and look at your art work. It's blowing my mind on your accomplishment . I love the story telling and the fac,t you still have your art from 6 years ago. Your work is beautifull. Thank you for the share,
Thank you so much for that lovely, thoughtful comment. The art in the journals is certainly going nowhere, but I do have lots of other things going back to my very earliest crafting days, about 12 years ago... it's interesting to look at them now and see how far I've travelled. And I know there's plenty more exploring to do!
It's fun seeing your exploration and play in your art! I also appreciate seeing blank pages left in between - I always feel like I have to fill it all up, but why??? If a page isn't calling, it's ok to skip (I have to remind myself and keep working on it hahaha)
I think often I've left those blank pages because there is, for instance, a metal brad pushing through, or the paper has become very wrinkly. But at some point I will go back and fill up the spaces in between... and then I really won't know how old a page is any longer!! And certainly I have no problem with starting a page and then leaving it for later if it's not calling me. It's probably at least six years since I created that second textured stencilled daisy page, and now I - finally - really really want to paint it... waiting for that urge to create is allowed! Thank you so much for your lovely comment, and carry on skipping pages!!
Thank you so much Alison, I really really enjoyed looking through your early journal. Well, it takes my breathe away it’s so wonderful and stunning too. I love ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ every single page. You’re a wonderful artist, and it shows in all your creative work. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Wow, Mags... you are clearly doing a deep dive on the Words and Pictures videos, and I'm so grateful for all your lovely comments. Very happy that you enjoyed going back in time with this journal.
Love this! I’m just getting back to my crafting after a long break and this has inspired me to get a journal so I can just play. I used to just craft with a purpose but playing looks so much more fun!! Thanks!!
The playing, the exploring, the process is always what matters to me... good results are a bonus! And then if I do need to create something with a purpose, I've got lots of ideas, tools, tricks, techniques at my fingertips to choose from. And inside a journal nobody ever needs to see what you've been doing (unless you choose to reveal it in a YT video, of course!!). I hope you'll have lots of fun playing. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much showing us your art journal which refills a bit of how your creative journey evolved. So intresting to see the Alison in her earlier stages and to be honest I love all the stages you went through. I can see how it finally made you into this great artist you are today. It's very inspiring and makes me wanna begin an art journal. Have a wonderful evening, Alison.
I have watched so many people work in art journals. I have made them from scratch, bought some and recovered them, I have made some with lovely watercolor paper and I have never even used one page. I’m afraid that I won’t be good enough, that I will ruin a page, etc. blah blah blah…….. July 1st is my deadline for this craft room makeover and then I’m going to DO AN ART JOURNAL! The frustration is building. I’m getting ready to bust out and I need to be able to find my stuff. Your journal is wonderful! I love the notes you make on the left side. When I was cardmaking, in the beginning, I would leave a post it note on the back, so I would be able to remember how I did something I loved or didn’t love. You have such beauty that pours out of you. I want to be like you when I grow up. I feel so double minded. I keep changing my mind about how to arrange my stuff and what i use the most and how I’m going to be able to get to them. Sorry for going on and on. I’ll get there. Hugs, treen 💕💕💕💕
@Katrine, Everyone of us feel the same way you do. The trick is to "Just Do It!" Have fun and let go of the need to get it right. Mistakes can turn into the best happy accidents. ❤❤❤
I hear your pain. When I moved countries, the bulk of my craft supplies got stuck in boxes for nearly six months while floors were finished etc etc. I was working with quite a substantial "temporary" stash, but nonetheless it was really frustrating... And also really hard to work out all the placements and storage once I could get things out again. There were some things that I knew had to be easily available, but too many of them to all be within reach all the time! Ikea Raskog trolleys are an excellent thing - because then you can roll certain supplies in and out of the prime positions. I have four - only one bought at Ikea, all the others from yard sales and car boot sales - they are a vital part of my storage. But then with the journalling, you have to banish the "judgment monkey" - that annoying pest who sits on our shoulders and says unhelpful things. Who cares if a page gets "ruined"? Nobody's going to see it but you (unless you choose to share it in a YT video of course!!)... and that's what a journal is for - exploring, playing, failing, trying something else. Plus I bet if you leave it and go back a few days/weeks/months/years later and add a few layers, it will end up somewhere better than you thought! It must be more than six years since I put the texture paste through the daisy stencil for the second time, and I now - finally - feel the urge to carry on with that page!! And even a "ruined" page teaches you something, so it's never wasted... unless it's left unused - that's how I try to look at it. Anyway, good luck with the final stages of the makeover. Remember you're still allowed to move things even after you've "finished". That's why we have previews in the theatre before opening night... until the audience is in, you really don't know what you have. Same with the craft room... until you start playing and using the space, you won't know for sure where things work best.
I am in the same boat with you! New to art journaling and mixed media. Brand new. I started making cards a few years ago and still don’t know what I’m doing but as you, I am going to jump in and start a real art journal 💚
Thank you - it's a little weird looking back at some of the pages from so long ago (a couple of them genuinely make me wince a bit) but also good to notice what a long way I've come! Happy you enjoyed it.
Thank you. It's definitely a little weird looking back at some of the pages from so long ago... A couple of them genuinely make me wince a bit - but then some, like the trees and those daisies, take me by surprise in a really good way, and it's good to notice what a long way I've come, but also the elements which have been there since the beginning. Happy you enjoyed it.

When you mentioned you felt vulnerable showing your earlier work - I can certainly relate. Slowly ive learnt to embrace my earlier pieces as they tell the story of discovery in my creative journey - I can see when I was uncertain, I can see when ideas clicked and I can see when I found my confidence…. I’m really loving your “books, books, books” series. Thanks for sharing.
It's really interesting looking back to see what has continued to be part of the journey and what has been discarded, isn't it? Thank you for watching and for your thoughtful comment... very much appreciated.

Thank you for sharing a glimpse into your journey. Such beautiful pages. Can't wait to hear the stories about those two pages. I feel like my work "speaks" as well. Good to know I'm in good company ❤
I bought that size for my first journal. Once it was delivered and I opened the journal I thought to myself.. it’s so LARGE! All that blank space! It’s been fun.;) I really enjoy watching your videos.;) Such a pleasure. Best wishes to you.:)
It is really large, but sometimes it's great to have that space to expand into... and obviously I've always got multiple journals on the go, of all shapes and sizes. Great to see a glimpse of your artworks throughout the years. You won't be surprised that my most loved spread is the one with the greens and Tim's umbellifer die cuts.
Happy you enjoyed the time travel... it was a very weird sensation. Trouble with the tree one is there's no way to create that texture on a stamp design! But yes, I like the idea of delving a little deeper into the woods. Thank you so much for your lovely comment.
Thank you for sharing your journal Alison 💕 I really enjoyed seeing your pages and love so many…the colours and textures, delicate flowers and herbs, all of it was very inspiring and soothing! 😊
Thank you... it's a slightly dizzying feeling looking back at some of those early pages - I sort of recognise them, and I also don't at all! I'm happy you found inspiration and calm in the pages. Some of them did that for me too, but not all of them!!

I understand the vulnerability it took to do that, but thank you! When I look back on my old artwork, most that were given as gifts, it’s amazing how I’ve ended up in a totally different direction!!❤❤
It's really interesting to look back, and sometimes there are things there that can feed today's work too! Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment.
Yes, I definitely want to paint those blank daisies very soon... I'd forgotten how beautiful that stencil is. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you for sharing your journal. It's such a private growth, and I loved seeing it. It is so much fun to see how other people go through the art process. Hugz
You're very welcome... it's not the only journal I have on the go (as I can see you know, since I've just spotted that you've commented on one of the altered book videos!). I have at least twelve or fifteen in different formats and styles!
I enjoyed this, I have that same journal! I still have lots of pages left in it. My first works in it are from 2014 and the last time I worked in it was 2021. Fun to see how we've evolved and discovered !!! tfs
The first of these must be from about that same time, I think, or maybe a year or two older. It's interesting (and odd) to look back and see how far we've come! Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment.

Hello Alison! Thank you for sharing your old journal… what a treat it is to see some of your earlier work. Although your trained artist’ eye may see more variables, from here it appears you found your style quite early on as I could see most of those pages created by the same person. I was especially excited to see the page using the JOFY stamps and Tim Holtz Crazy Birds. Those birds are what got me into art journaling because I found VickyP’s art journal page using the Crazy Birds when searching TH-cam for ideas in 2015… I don’t know if I’ve even found my own ‘style’ yet because I love so many different artists, brands, techniques, supplies, etc. which is why I get ‘stuck’ so often. My favorite completed journal is from 2019 using a Dylusions 8”x8” kraft journal and all the pages used stamped, cut out images of flowers in some fashion - PaperArtsy, Dylusions, Studio Light, etc… I keep saying I should do another one because I had so much fun creating those pages. Anyway… I have thought about doing flip through videos but haven’t been able to overcome the fear of criticism so I commend you even more for sharing so much of your creations and surroundings. I appreciate every video whether long or short. Thank you… Have a wonderful weekend! I’m off now to enjoy your newest “A few minutes of fun” =) 🙂
I think as long as you stay curious, that's the main thing. Finding "your" style can even be a trap, because you stop exploring and playing in other directions... I'd say keep right on loving all those different artists and brands and techniques and products and keep playing - that's where the joy is! Your square journal sounds lovely... I have a couple of square ones on the go - one white, one kraft. The white one should be coming up in a couple of weeks. The kraft one is going to have to wait for winter, as the majority of the spreads in there are somewhat snowy!! As far as criticism goes, working in theatre has taught me to bring several buckets of salt along with me whenever I engage with it! Hope you're having a lovely weekend.
Thank you - and of course this wasn't the only journal on the go during those years, so there are very big gaps here! It's definitely a little weird looking back at some of the pages from so long ago. A couple of them genuinely make me wince a bit - but then some, like the trees and those daisies, take me by surprise in a really good way. It's good to notice what a long way I've come, but also the elements which have been there since the beginning! Happy you enjoyed it - thank you for taking the time to let me know.

When I first heard the train noise, my head jerked up and “what’s Andy yelling about now?” flashed through my mind. Andy is my neighbor and he is a character. But then you said it was a train, so I mellowed out. 😅 😂 Loved your journal. Thank you for your courage in sharing it with us. I have that journal and the large size was intimidating to me at first as well. Actually, it still kind of is. Why on earth did I buy that size? What was I even thinking? And I think it is agreed upon: The red is obnoxious and it must go! Cheers! 🇺🇸 🇨🇿
It is really large, but sometimes it's great to have that space to expand into... and obviously I've always got multiple journals on the go, of all shapes and sizes. I think those disturbing red vibrations might be another reason why I don't pull this journal out to play in as often as I might, so I really must take action! It's definitely a little weird looking back at some of the pages from so long ago. A couple of them genuinely make me wince a bit - but then some, like the trees and those daisies, take me by surprise in a really good way. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
This is great, we got to see how you’ve grown artistically. This gives me hope for my own stuff 😊. Love the story telling (came over from your theatrical story video). This has given me many ideas. Now to get some ephemera ideas to have a go myself! Thanks Alison! Btw I had no idea you were in the Czech Republic! And thanks for being brave in sharing this!
It's an odd sensation looking back in these art journals (this is not the only one which dives back down the years!)... but I think it's really helpful sometimes to remember where we've come from. Speaking of where we come from... I relocated to the Czech Republic (where my maternal grandparents were from originally) a few years ago - it's still all fairly new to me, but it's all part of life's creative journey. I'm so happy that the flip through has inspired you to go and have a play yourself - as I may have said before, that's the best possible response to these videos!! Thanks for your company and your comments.
Some Idea-Ology Linen or Fabric tape could sort out that spine, giving it a bit of vintage. It's a great size journal to be creative in. Thank you for sharing.
Oh, yes, good idea... but I think I'll still need to at least gesso it first. Red has an annoying way of seeping through whatever you stick over the top of it. I think those disturbing red vibrations might be another reason why I don't pull this journal out to play in as often as I might, so I really must take action! It was a little weird looking back at some of the pages from so long ago, but also good to notice what a long way I've come... thank you so much for watching and commenting.
What a treasure your journal is. Could you tell me who the daisy stencil is from? I couldn't quite make out who you said the manufacturer was. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed seeing back down my crafting history in the journal! The large daisy stencil is by Donna Downey... this is it here: istencils.com/dd-020-painted-flowers/ Thanks for watching and commenting.

Happy to know it's not just me! Delighted you enjoyed it, and there'll be some stories coming soon. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
It's definitely a little weird looking back at some of the pages from so long ago. A couple of them genuinely make me wince a bit - but then some, like the trees and those daisies, take me by surprise in a really good way. It's good to notice what a long way I've come, but also the elements which have been there since the beginning!
Happy you enjoyed it. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Great to see a glimpse of your artworks throughout the years. You won't be surprised that my most loved spread is the one with the greens and Tim's umbellifer die cuts.
I think it might be mine too... thank you for all your lovely comments, always.
Love to see your progression. The trees are fantastic. Maybe a forest themed set of stamps next? Wonderful of you to share. Thank you.
Lovely transparency…thank you! The journey of exploration is so much fun to learn about ourselves.

I love your wild Forrest and all those beautiful pages. Thank you for sharing all those beautiful sheets.
Thank you - it's slightly weird looking back at some of the earlier pages from so many years ago, but really satisfying to be aware of the journeys I've taken since then. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you for sharing with us these pages
You are so very welcome!
Beautiful and interesting. The tree and the page of daisies were fabulous to me. Thank you for sharing.
I just love looking through your art journal, Thanks for sharing you gave me a MUCH of ideas...Thanks

And bear in mind it's not my only journal... there are always many on the go in all shapes and sizes so I can grab one that suits my mood! Happy you enjoyed it.
Thank you for sharing! 😍😍😍
I love your work!!! Wonderful! ❤️
Thank you - it's a little weird looking back at some of the pages from so long ago, but also good to notice what a long way I've come!
TYFS❤
You're welcome - it felt a little weird showing those early pages, but I think it's useful to look back sometimes and see how far we've come.
@@w0rdsandp1ctures absolutely! I love looking back on mine!
Fascinating, thank you!
Oh, the journeys we take... it was really odd looking back so far!
Thank ye for sharing !! Ye have same fav colors as I !! Just absolutely live your art !! 🎉❤

Amazing pages. Thank you for showing us.

Lovely to see your art journals, thank you for sharing! You are an inspiration! I wouldn’t be brave enough to share mine xx
I did have a bit of a wobble about it, but then I thought there's something useful in showing that we all go on journeys.
@@w0rdsandp1ctures I’m so glad you did share, it’s such a great way to see how far you’ve come and how your style develops xx
@w0rdsandp1ctures thanks so much for your encouragement and salty advise 🙂
What a lovely record of your progressive work.
Thank you - and of course this wasn't the only journal on the go during those years, so there are very big gaps here!

LOVE it all!! So many stunning different pages...LOVE the trees very much too!

When I first heard the train noise, my head jerked up and “what’s Andy yelling about now?” flashed through my mind. Andy is my neighbor and he is a character. But then you said it was a train, so I mellowed out. 😅 😂
Loved your journal.

Happy you enjoyed it, and that the train didn't disturb you for long! Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Beautiful!!!!! Thank you!😍😍😍😍😍
So happy you enjoyed it - thank you so much for taking the time to let me know.
I like crazy and vulnerable. Thanks so much for sharing❤️
It's so odd looking back at those early pages... I'm glad you enjoyed the crazy and the vulnerable. Thank you for that!
I loved seeing this so much as a beginner. You are so artistic
I'm so pleased to hear that you found it helpful, thank you. We all start somewhere, and we travel on from there!
💜💜💜
Thank you.

Love ur videos❤
That's great to know, thank you.
The train going by in the valley…🤍🤍🤍 never needs an apology 🤍🤍🤍
Oh good... all the windows upstairs were wide open so it was much louder than usual!
I was pleased it was mentioned though as I was going to stop the video & go explore outside as I thought it was at my place 😁😅
