    Small tip for the bike phone mount. You could stick an NFC tag to it and setup an automation that opens that dashboard when the tag is read by your phone. Then you don‘t need to always have the shortcut on your lockscreen.

    When my kids were smaller we went with a van. Had every bell and whistle, 3 tvs, heated seats and steering wheel (not for Arizona lol). Anyway I would pull up to the school, pop the door and yell go go go and they would pretend they were seals jumping out of a chopper.
    Great video, I have a ratgdo that I need to install.

    As always, love the channel. I must say that living in AZ for about nine years (lived in the desert in California before that), I've yet to see any rattlers here. I have an automation also that if motion is detected in my mud room before the door to the garage opens, the light turns on in the garage (if it's between a certain time or if my lux sensor on my Ambient says that it is below a certain value). If it detects no motion in the mud room when the door from the garage opens (I'm entering the home), it turns on the light to the mudroom. And, of course, you just have to add timers to the whole thing and timer restarts if it detects additional transit to/from the garage.

    Reed I have some similar set ups in my garage. I have plenty of other man cave space living in a 5000 sq ft house but I use the garage for electronics projects and car work. I live in North Dakota so my automations include HEAT in the winter. I have a sonos connect amp tied to an old Bose Acoustomass audio system. Mine is mostly Alexa controlled no automations tied to presence - but I do have presence sensors out there for lights etc. I too have 3 MyQ GDOs but my hubitat integration for some reason is STILL working (shhhh).

    Hey bro. I do follow you. Been following you for the past year now, so you've actually helped me figure out half of the motion sensors that I have in my home. I went with the zigbee but the reason for this message is to help you what I had done before I got my electric vehicle is. I'm a licensed electrician and I live in the state of Texas but what I've had done was I installed exhaust fans in my garage in the ceiling that would blow the heat from inside the garage cuz my garage face is west so the exhaust fans blow the heat out of the garage into the attic. I also went to home Depot and got the insulation kit to insulate the garage door to prevent that heat from the garage door heating up to coming into the garage to heat the air in the garage up. Hope it helps because you've helped me. Thank you and God bless

    some great ideas here! Ive got a moiton sensor in the garage, mounted on the door. when its open, the sensor is over the middle of the garage, so it will close the garage after 10 minutes of inactivity. I can also override that with a boolean that is a condition on the garage closing, so i can easily disable the automation if i need to. then if the override switch is on for an hour without motion, i get an actionable notification that i can close the garage door and turn the automation back on with one touch.

    • @MichaelAlderete
      @MichaelAlderete 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidcaliz8723 Holy moly! I've seen their products (I have the plug-in switches!), but I always spot the motion detector, which has the same _shape_ as the HomeSeer. Then I notice that it's battery powered, instead of mains powered like the HomeSeer, and I abandon it.
      But the nightlight looks like it's exactly what I want: Zigbee-based, mains powered, Zigbee router/repeater capable, plus motion and colored light. The HomeSeer (Z-Wave) product form factor is terrific, slimmer and more unobtrusive. But the ThirdReality light is bigger and brighter, a night light instead of a status indicator. It's enough bigger, the light is useful even without smart home automations. (Though a lot more expensive than the cheap nightlights I have in key places today.)
      I've just ordered one to test. Thank you!

    • @MichaelAlderete
      @MichaelAlderete 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidcaliz8723 Thank you! I had run across their motion sensors, but those are battery operated, not mains powered. But I never saw the nightlight.
      So, I ordered one of the nightlights. It's...larger than I expected or hoped. Not quite the slim, unobtrusive profile of the Z-wave version.
      Still usable, but if they ever made a low-profile version, I'd buy 10 more.

  • @Jason.family
    @Jason.family หลายเดือนก่อน

    You don't have to have the tesla gen3 charger attached to HASS if you have the tesla integration. You can use entities from the integration to tell if the car is plugged in. Also, you can setup the notification to let you know at a certain time each night if it's not plugged in by reporting the current range in the notification. That way, if your range is low, you know to go plug in.

    Hey, Reed:
    "Garage Grabbers" should come with every home in AZ.
    Here in the foothills of NoPho, my grabbers are used to pick up a seemingly endless supply of scorpions and desert centipedes that, according to the laws of nature, have an inalienable right to park in my garage on a nightly basis.
    Thank you for sharing your garage automation. As the t-shirt axiom goes:
    "Too much home automation is never enough."
    Kind regards,
    T.

    It’s interesting on the way we think. Minus the work bench area that I don’t have we run the same typos of automations in the garage with a few exceptions. I run a Hardware differences are that I Wyze cam in the garage, I use Aqara for the door sensor to turn on the lights in the garage, and use one of my hallway lights to turn red when the garage is open. Also recently converted everything over to matter now, so the outlet that turns on the LED strip lights are LinkInD outlet with matter.
    As for automations, garage opens (meross) when I come home, alarm disarms, door from the garage to the house unlocks, lights in the garage come on, but it also checks if the Govee house lights are on and if they are on then it changes the house lights, porch and driveway lights from a warm yellow dimmed to 100% bright daylight for visibility of the house outside and property. These reset back to the normal lighting after 1 min. Once I go inside if the garage is closed and I lock the dead old on the door then the garage lights turn off. Or they turn off with the sunrise script when the outdoor lights turn off. Oh, and I don’t do motion detectors./
    But it just surprises me on the similarities in automations that we run with only slight differences.

    Question: What buttons do i use for a smart home? I'm thinking right now I want matter/thread switches so I can directly use home assistant to link them to output devices without a system in between. But I also want those switches to be wired, I also want them to be compatible with future switches. I don't want to replace wires if there will be a better switch out there or they break down and they don't exist anymore. I also want like half of my switches to have 4 buttons (or more). I want a few to have a dimming option. I also don't want them to use wifi so I dont overload my router. Where the hell do I start. What do you recommend?

  • @virutalnewscenter
    @virutalnewscenter 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi Reed, 2 Things. 1) Is your RATGDO plugged into the USB port on the smart plug bar? and 2) would these routines work for the laser to keep your kids safer? a) Coming home: IF the phone breaks into a geo fence and IF garage door opens THEN turn on the lazer plug. b) Going. IF phone breaks out of GEO Fence and garage door closes THEN turn off laser plug. Gone: IF phone is outside of geo fence and IF motion is detected by the motion detector that services that car stall, then turn off the laser plug. Not sure if the laser light has a boot up time or is it ready to go once there is power? That may affect the "On" step.

    Reid which HACS integration do you use for your taco camera? There are two in the store that I can see the tapo:cameras control and just tapo controller. Thanks for the advice on the cameras. I have better beefier ones for outside that are IP but I wanted a few for indoors and it looks like the top of ones are a good solution for now

      I went with this one github.com/JurajNyiri/HomeAssistant-Tapo-Control and yeah for inexpensive cameras they seem to work well!

    Hey , just a thought, would it be possible to connect the laser parking indicator to a proximity sensor on your cars rather than tied up to your garage door. The kids might be playing with the garage door open.

    Hey! I'm wondering if I can use my Google Chromecast for things like playing music (even from third-party apps) and setting alarms? As a student, a Sonos is a bit out of my budget. Also, wouldn't it be cool to have a simple dashboard with a to-do list, clock, and other useful stuff? Any tips or experiences on how to do this? Excited to hear your thoughts! Love from Germany!
