I can always use reminders to improve my technique. I have small hands that are 78 years old and have a LOT of wear and damage, so every bit helps. Muting has always been a soft spot in my technique so I 'm looking forward to that lesson for sure. You are an absolute sorceress at teaching.
This is so good. I was getting close to chucking the bass in the bin. I was really struggling with getting my little finger to do what I wanted. This gives me confidence to keep going. All great tuition, thank you
@UkuleleWales yes, I don't seem to have enough strength and was doubling up with my ring finger. I am an older learner (to my shame) with a full size bass, but this has given me hope
Brilliant bass techniques, lots of these important points are often overlooked by other's tutorials. Thank you, I appreciate you sharing your experience. (My tiny short old pinky finger is a UK size D, so I needed to hear this) 👍 Looking forward to your muting video. Keep on playing, have a great week 🥰
Thanks so much Rach. All these reminders are great giving us technique to use when we are practicing. As you know, I had flying fingers, didn’t even realize it! Will use all the help I can get 😊
Question. So if I am understanding you correctly, say you are on the A string and you need to press the 4th fret. You are saying that on the A string, your other fingers also go down at the same time so frets 1, 2, 3 and 4 are pressed together? To keep your fingers moving as one?
I do as I have smaller hands and I also teach this way to players with smaller hands or very young players as it gives more strength to the note. However, if a player wishes to play with one fret per finger or indeed press the string with just one finger that's fine - as long as the notes are sound clean.

Thanks Alan, I am soooo glad to be helping, I really am. :-)

Hi Andy, do you mean pressing your little finger down on a seperate fret or just flying around? I'm so glad you are not going to give up!

Thanks for this lesson. Very helpful, I'll try my best with my arthritic fingers😊
Very glad to be helping.
I have to remember the strap is holding on to the bass, and my fretting hand is for fretting. No death grip required. Thanks for all the tips Rachel!
Definitely Judi, always try to relax!

You are so welcome Loree, I'm just glad to be helping you rock!
Thanks ….thats just the lesson I needed🥰
You’re welcome 😊
Brilliant video. So much to learn! I look forward to a video on muting using the left hand. Now to overcome the flying fingers!
Thanks Suella.
Love this lesson, thanks Rachel
Glad you enjoyed it Mike and hopefully will help. How is that new bass doing?? Can't wait to see it.
Thanks Rachel for another very useful video. I need all the help I can get with my aging, tiny, arthritic, Dupuytren paws.
You are so welcome Vince, and yes it's all about adapting to what you can manage.
A really helpful lesson, Rach, thank you xx Hope my brain connects to my fingers properly in the not too distant future! :D xx
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Even though I have played for a couple of years, I still found this useful (I am self-taught).
Glad to be helping, sometimes just a little bit of technique advice hopefully can go a long way.

What kind of strings are on the Tiny bass?
Dogal flatwounds - made specially for the Tiny Bass.

It's a Tiny Bass, very nice and very cool! 😎
