    Hello Rachel, from Australia. I've moved from ukulele to UBass, mainly because of the arthritis developing in my
    left thumb. (I'm right handed). I should have tried bass years ago; it's so much fun. As an ex-teacher/principal I'd
    like to thank you for your lessons. It's obvious how much time and talent you put into them. Your teaching skills
    are also quite evident and appreciated. I'm sure many would-be-musicians like me around this beautiful world have
    really enjoyed 'tuning' in to Ukelele Wales, especially during these horrible pandemic lock downs.

    Thanks, this was incredibly useful. I have been playing guitar for around 45 years and so I know all of the chords, but I just learned the shapes without really thinking about the notes. I never realised G7 just added the 7th note from the scale, I thought it was some kind of dark arts, but it’s easy isn’t it.

    What gem! And the lesson is fantastic too ;-). Thank you so much for demystifying the walking bass line. I have only picked up a bass last September so I am still working on muscle memory, target practice, fret board topography, and the rhythm of music. Your bass lessons have opened up a world of music 🎶 for me and that is exciting, rich, beautiful, and presents so many possibilities. A while ago I began with your the 1/3 1/5 and root segment. This lesson marvelously added rhythm and tempo to understanding how the chords created a pathway for progression through the music. Bravo 🙌 thank you Ukulele Wales for this nicely crafted sweetly presented lesson. I am in awe of your teaching abilities. And have a much greater appreciation of the Bass through you efforts. Looking forward to practicing for many hours to come and leaning. Cheers, The Hampshire Brewer - Ukulele Learning 🤙🏽

    Hopefully this is not a dumb question Rachel but trying to wrap my head around this.
    How fast do you know how to play? Do you keep up with the tempo? If a song has a tempo if 150, how do you figure out the rhythm? If I had to play that fast I would never get past root notes. Sorry if this is a duh question. 😊

    • @UkuleleWales
      @UkuleleWales  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is never a dumb question Loree! If there is a drum beat or any kind of beat it helps but basically a walking bass line plays on each beat so if the song has beats in a bar (most have) you are aiming to play a bass note on each beat, it can be all root notes if need be. Have you tried the slowe backing tracks, you can always slow them down if need to be - click the little cog below the video. Listen for the main drum beats and start with just playing a root note and then add some 3rd and 5ths once you get the hang of it. Hopefully that helps but if you are still stuck, ask away. The faster it is, the simpler to play always works!

    Ok. So I'm in a ukulele band, I watched your first four bass lesson and on the back of that I felt confident enough in your teaching to buy a Mahalo Bass and Benson amp. A quick question: what happens if the band go to capos for a song?

    • @UkuleleWales
      @UkuleleWales  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Colin, firstly Thanks for the lovely comment and very glad that I've helped.
      You have asked an excellent question, one I'd not really though about. Basically, if the uke band are using capos and I presume the bass is following their chord charts, the bass line would need to be transposed (shifted in pitch). So, say the ukes are using capos on fret 2, you would need to play one note higher, so say goes to D. The easiest fix would be to alter / transpose the chrt just for the bass player. I hope this makes sense, please feel free to ask againif it doesn't.
      Personally I would use a capo on the bass and de-tuning also isn't a good option.

    • @rebeccamyers7483

      What kind of capo would you put on a ubass?

    • @UkuleleWales
