Great video Chris! I live in Bangkok on about half of that, not including medical expenses. If I were able to double my budget, I’d upgrade my apartment, eat at more restaurants than street food and take taxis more frequently. I’d also include some travel to other areas in Thailand. Great inspiration for those looking to move to Bangkok like I was finally able to do last month!
@@Dime333 I budget about $100/month for medical but I'm getting treatment from a specialist at Vejthani, one of the best hospitals in the country. Aside from that, my medicine runs me about $15/month.
@@Dime333 - It's actually cheaper to pay out-of-pocket for non-life-threatening procedures. Many expats only have medical insurance that covers catastrophic events such as major accidents, cancer, heart attacks...etc. Most simple treatments would cost about $30 USD at a mid-level hospital. In the States, I paid $150 for an eye infection, and this didn't include the antibacterial eye drops! I have medical insurance but I did not meet the deductible of $2K USD so I had to pay the full amount! Oh, I forgot, I had to pay a $50 office visit before I could see a doctor in addition to the $150 plus cost of drugs. The US federal government has let the insurance and medical industry run amok with no-cap pricing! Hospitals can charge whatever they want since there is no limit on each procedure. Hospitals get away with this because they know the insurance companies will pay the high-cost bill, and then the insurance companies pass the high cost back to the consumer as a very high monthly premium.
Nice family. A lot of opportunity to to reduce costs, seems to still be living more faring than Thai but each to their own. I suspect that a year from now their routine may be a bit more localized. Regardless, I love their decision, appreciate their service and wish them a bountiful life, full of adventure!
I’m on Safety Wing and recently I filed a claim for an emergency procedure abroad. I have to say the experience has been rather disappointing. The claims procedure is very time-consuming and mine is going nowhere so far. It’s been 3 months since and I still receive no updates. Just getting more frustrated by the day. The CS agents are no help at all. Everytime I call, they just tell me to wait and be patient. So ya, I wouldn’t recommend Safety Wing..

What a sweet family. My daughter lives in Tampa and I know her costs are very quite high and she is a frugal woman who would rather go a mountain bike ride than a shopping trip, just personal preference no dig to shopping trips. Like one of your commenters below I do spend more on travel because taking advantage of being in S.E. Asia to get to other countries is a passion of mine but living expenses are comparable to their budget. Great in depth video and thanks to that family for sharing some very valuable information with us!
@seantaylor4107 - spending on vacation is much different from spending to live there. Someone living in Bangkok would not be visiting many places within one month.
700 is gay, but you can donate 5 USD to a buddhist monk for him to take the gay away. Well, 700 is enough for some things. You can rent a room with AC in Bangkok for next to nothing. 100 USD should do it. You will not have much of a kitchen, but street food is cheap. Or you can improvise a kitchen. Now you have 600 USD left for food and utilities. Bangkok suburbs might work really well for you. If you can try to stick to 500 USD a month and build a buffer. Maybe get an online job part-time, make another 1000 USD a month, and now you're living very comfortably in a Bangkok suburb and saving money for a rainy day.
Happy family. Jai is very cute. She seems to be a very happy child. I think the most important thing for parents is to see their child being able to adjust and happily live in a foreign land. Btw, I am Thai and I love when Cuddle speaks Thai. She can speak Thai clearly with sweet tone. Thais will love her and she will do just fine when she gets teaching job. Jai can also get into Thai schools. Most schools now offer English speaking only class with native English speaking teachers. She doesn't have to go to international schools which is expensive. Hope things are going well with them in Thailand.
Great interview! Great to see this family make this step to move to Thailand, my wife and myself wish we could also move there with our kids…..maybe in the future! Please keep this kind of interviews coming! Greetings from Malta 🇲🇹
yes, Tampa is extremely expensive. We paid $500 a month just for car insurance 2 vehicles & 3 drivers. Mortgage was over $2000 per month. People think that Florida is cheap................ well it is not. They will do good in Thailand. I will be visiting next years & maybe staying. Good luck to the 3 of you!!!!!! Love Chris too!!!!
Having kids is one of the biggest challenges in Thailand imo. Values and hierachy are different and it would be interesting to see what experiences families have after a few years with a young daughter like this one.
Ur right. Thailand is much better then the rotten west. In thailand ur child wont learn pornography in school, think there are 57 genders, that whites are racist by default, that capitalism is evil, that men are bad, that equality of outcome is desired, that gaypride hangs higher then national flag etc. So ur right, its very different in thailand
In general, most Thai children respect their parents, authority and rules. Of course, there's always exception to the rules, some kids can be very different. I am sure Jai will be able to adapt to the new culture. Her mother said she loves Asia.
@@ReneMedia Many westerners relocate back to countries where decent education is cheaper than in Thailand, if they dont have big financial advantages in Thai. Birth rate decrease is heavy and the main reason is education costs.

I had a friend in Miami who received a 50% discount for her son by accepting a teaching position there. But that is the states. Keep these videos coming.
Hi there! To answer your question, yes! In most cases a teacher hired at an international school can receive a discount or the entire tuition may be covered. Great video again Chris! It's good to see a family living on somewhat of a normal budget and not having to count every penny they have to live on. I'm sure in time they will probably change their lifestyles when they reach their 50's. To put things in perspective, my wife and I will be retiring in a few years in Thailand from Hawaii. Our budget will be a conservative $5K a month by then (We spend way more than that now living conservatively in Hawaii).
It was good to see that they were happy with a 3K budget and were not holding back, which shows that if more prudence was needed it would not harm them to reduce their spending, for example 23 degrees on the AC is not unbearable saving money .and a Starbucks or 2 can be less at a coffee shop and good quality
I have about $3400 per month. Being single. So I guess I would be ok there. I would prefer to live in Bangkok. More to see. Do. So this video is helpful. Just moved to Thailand two days ago. still trying to recover from the 12-hour difference. Now I just need to start looking for a teaching job. Should not be a problem as I have all my paperwork required and 8 years of ESL experience in China. I am excited to see what Thailand offers me. I do know that I would like to work outside of Bangkok. When expats get tied down in large cities, they seldom explore outside of the city, even on holidays. When an expat lives outside in the country or on the rim of a city, they tend to go explore more and take more trips.
There are plenty of options outside of Bangkok as well. I don't like to live in a huge crowded city like Bangkok. Living in Trat now, near the islands Koh Chang and Koh Mak. Love it here.
I’ve been living in Bangkok since 1989. Beware of agents, they’ll take a high percentage of any job they get you. Get your teaching and education papers translated to Thai. Find your district office to apply for a government teaching job, 600 Baht an hour. They’ll take your papers and have an interview sometime in September or October for the teaching year. You can also apply at private schools.

You wouldnt need to work, it's why you come here. 3K is equivalent to 20K US for similar or better lifestyle here in Thailand. You live in the country, and it's like 30K!
Hello Chris this was a great vlog! The family seems pretty sweet and I wish them all the happiness, fulfillment and success in Thailand
For me personally I think when I retire I can probably keep my living expenses at $2K max… we shall see in due time
Another great video. I wish that beautiful family well. Stay encouraged and peace/blessings to them.❤🙏
So I’m going to Bangkok and Chiang Mai at the end of this week (SO EXCITED!) and I’ve been binging your videos in preparation! Just found your mercy store and my last name is actually Mai so the Chiang Mai merch I just HAVE to get! It’s just too perfect! Also love your 25 best bangkok things and the Thailand lovers ones! Now I have to choose!
Love to know your budget. I live on 1/4 of that in Brazil, but am considering a move to Thailand.
Yes, how much is medical?
What do you think a reasonable budget would be for a couple who want to live in a neighborhood close to public transportation. Thank you 😊
At 5:15 there is clip about going to movie theater Scala, that movie theater closed in July 2020 and has been demolished.
What a beautiful family and a cool story. Thank you for showing us your life and I really appreciate your openness and I hope you continue to enjoy your life as you have!
Semper fi. I will be there soon. Not at the 3k budget, but... hopefully at least 1800+ budget a month
Yes definitely Chris, inspired me to think and work towards moving to Thailand with family.
Best vlogger in Thailand. Always love your content especially the day in the life of local Thai videos. Oh, and the dogs.
Excellent Interview. This family shared a lot of very useful information.
Great video! I’m met Tony and cuddles a short while back. Great people I definitely agree with being careful with the traffic that has been the only downside that I have seen aside from the heat.
What's up brotha! Thanks for the comment. This is Tony BTW.
Great video! Thank you for this content. I love the relationship between mother and daughter too 😍
Another wonderful video Chris. Thanks from Samoeng, Thailand
I just stayed in Bangkok for the whole month of June. Spent 2500. Enjoyed my self well. Not much drinking though, and no partying.
@seantaylor4107 - spending on vacation is much different from spending to live there. Someone living in Bangkok would not be visiting many places within one month.
What a great fam. Great interview & info. Thanks for the content.
What a beautiful family, thank you for sharing so much useful information.
I'm living in the same building, hope to run into you guys and say hello soon!
I like to order Grab and use discount coupons too PvP time in the game Thank you Chris for the lovely family review.
This child possesses an innate talent for TH-cam content creation!
Excellent video. This family is delightful. I wish them well.
We estimate Westerners can live in Bangkok for about US$1,500 per person a month. Great video! Thank you!
My Canadian disability pays only 700$ which is gay.
@@Anomalyy666 If you're frugal, you can live on that in many parts of the world. Where are you considering?
@x-marks-x5137 - your most costly expense would be school expenses for the kids in an international school.
Well done, great vid and it's Real....a good example from a family that moved
Great presentation. Thank you Chris for the insurance tip as well.
Jai is so cute! I'm glad you live comfortably in my country. Welcome to Thailand!
yes, Tampa is extremely expensive.
Im retired US military as well. Thailand is a great place to maximize the value of that pension.
Seen some of your videos before we left the States!!😊
@@cuddlesandjaisabaisabai Nice! We'll have to connect when Im back in Thailand. Im retired Navy by the way.
I love living in the rama 9 area and see they are very close to me ., I wish them the best .
I love this video! It's giving me CNBC make it vibes. Hope this becomes a series, interviewing expats, and their lives in Thailand.
Super interview, Chris! Nice family who are making it happen in Thailand. An inspiration for us all! 👍
I hope she can get integrated and learn the language, despite attending American school online.
@@ReneMedia money is not everything. Invest it into your child instead. Return is a happy family and your pride, when he prospers.
Thank you for this excellent video. Your interview and this family is absolutely enchanting! Great job by all!!!
Really enjoyed this video, Chris. Very informative on what $3K a month can do for a Bangkok lifestyle.
Thanks.
WOW Electricity Water Internet Mobile in US is $779 in Tampa Florida in Thailand same is $198 Transport $1500 in USA, $150 in BKK don't have to drive. Mostly 10-25% of US prices so what's not to like? Well done, very informative video Thx Chris
Great video, sir! Super awesome family and thank you for your service. Semper Fidelis!
They are a lovely family.
First comment! 🎉🎉🎉 Thanks again for interviewing me on the cost of living in Koh Samui 🏝️
How sad
Jai is brilliant.
A natural and I see a future in entertainment.
Super adorable family! I'm impressed they already have family there and they found and trust you! Great episode!
The quality of your videos are insane and I love the absolute crazy verriaty of thailand videos.
Great interview! I'm living in Thailand with my wife and one kid. He's studying in an international school (paying about 450 USD per month). Loving it here
May I ask which international school? That is a very reasonable price. This is Tony BTW.
@@thaisticcs If I am not mistaken, Chris might've said that his daughter, Anna, also attended an international school in one of his videos, I think it's not far from Chulalongkorn Univ., but better ask Chris
@@thaisticcs It's in another city, but when we were looking in bangkok, we found OISCA International School and Thonglor Greenfield Nursery (but our kid is younger)
great video Chris....love how you have imrproved your skills over time on this channel....the videos are better than ever in all aspects.
Great Video. Loved this budget range and POV from this family. Very unique and engaging content on your channel. Thank you and keep up the good work!
What a beautiful family, and their daughter is as cute as can be 👍
Another great video…
Thanks I live in Tampa Bay area so this is spot on.
Enjoy your break and condolences to family.
I loved the “ Day in the Life “ videos. But anything really. I’ve been a few times to Roi Et and Koh Samui. Love it.
Since 1998 when i first arrived to Thaianld i 've been a tourist, a husband and father now single retiree 🙏🏾 I've lived in Jomtien Beach Chonburi, Lived in a village in Korat , Enjoyed visiting and short stay living in some of Everywhere in Thailand , But Only Now as of this year exploring idea "living in Krungtep " as my home Until ... 🙏🏾 I can honestly say Its changed alot over the last 25 yrs , if your're New person to the experience You'll love it 😀❤
As for Budget ? That depeneds on Entirely on the way you want to live ,We as expats , or very experienced Semi retireed lving in Thaiand over the years , Can only Say "You get what you pay for 🙏🏾 " If you want to live cheaply , That'll depend on your level of tolerance for being without those Amenities ,That made you comfortable back in your home Country🙏🏾
If you want "modest" but modern comfort and have a decent social life 🙂 A Budget of Can & US $1900 Per mon . Or 1650, Euros and 1450 UK will do , But To live No doubtly Comfortable , A budget of $2400 +Can.& USD per mon. To at ($3K + " Per month ) is where You have a LOT less limitations on Your lifestyle 🙏🏾
But I'll close with this ( IF YOU'RE A PERSON WITH VICES THAT YOU'VE STRUGGLED WITH, THROUGHOUT YOUR LIFE TO WHERE SELF CONTROL AND DISCIPLINE BECAME PROBLEMATIC ISSUE AT TIMES. " LIVING IN PLACES LIKE (BANGKOK ) (PATTAYA ) (PHUKET) AND
( HUA HIN )TO AN EXTENT , CAN TURN OUT TO BE HEALTH THREATENING, AND BRING YOU TO FINANCIAL RUIN OR WORSE 🙏🏾
Alot of TH-cam Vloggers always paint the Rose colored glassed version of Thailand Travel and retirement But what i typed above in all caps is serious and should always be Kept in the forefront of your minds exercise prudence and moderation and you will be wonderful .🙏🏾
Well said! And some of our eating habits are definitely due to excitement of being here that could be avoided later when things settle down. I love Thai food but couldn’t eat it EVERYDAY as people are suggesting. There’s so much interesting yummy food here from all over the world! But I agree, you definitely have to make sure to use self control and beware of all temptations that come with Thailand.
This is a great video to be able to see other's expenditures. Beautiful family. My question about cuddles teaching quest is: Is she looking to get a discount at one of the 2 International schools by working there? I had a friend in Miami who received a 50% discount for her son by accepting a teaching position there. But that is the states. Keep these videos coming.
Hi there! To answer your question, yes! In most cases a teacher hired at an international school can receive a discount or the entire tuition may be covered. So, it’s too early to know how this will go, but I am also hoping to eventually get a job at an international school so that we can stay together😊
Your videos always make me want to move to Thailand!!!!!!!!
Im retired Navy(and receiving VA disability) and soon to retire from the post office. I'm a single guy and thinking life is going to be pretty good retiring in Thailand after seeing this video. If a family of 3 is able to make it on $3,000 a month I DEFINITELY will be able to being single😃
singles spend more than families in bangkok. i.e more partying, women, luxuries
@@jimmyli4771 I could certainly see that but they eat out all the time as a family and I would only be eating out as an individual. Now in regards to the partying??? That may be a different story 🤔😃
@@boatswainsm8 eating out is so cheap there, cheaper than at home and no waist. Food, housing and transportation are cheap. girls and drinking are not. But you can find a nice girl and support her family instead, after a while. Thai people are fun loving and nice !
@@jimmyli4771-Not me.If Boats is retired Navy all that commercial sex BS isn’t like to impress him. He’s seen it before.
you're going to have an amazing time....just minimize costs by renting a place for cheap...that will help a lot
Great video, can you more videos like this for expat families, we are looking to move to Thailand within the next 2 yrs, and my biggest concern is an international school for my girl. Thanks
Another great and useful video, Chris. Love this family! Great to see them living the life.
It was good to see that they were happy with a 3K budget and were not holding back, which shows that if more prudence was needed it would not harm them to reduce their spending, for example 23 degrees on the AC is not unbearable saving money .and a Starbucks or 2 can be less at a coffee shop and good quality
I set 26 during day and 27 at night.
@@DiscoverCiaoMondo That 1 degree must really help you sleep.
@@grahamjohnson4702 Well sometimes I cheat!
I have about $3400 per month. Being single. So I guess I would be ok there. I would prefer to live in Bangkok. More to see. Do. So this video is helpful. I have lived in different parts of Asia already. For years. The one thing I know is that it’s much easier to live there as a single person (man). It is. Hope the best though for this family.
I was at the Ekamai Beer House last week. it was great.
My man, you do such a great job interviewing!! Thank you for posting.
I would quite happily settle for krapow gai with a fried egg for breakfast. I don't know the price now, but it was about 25 baht in 2006.
ขอบคุณครับคุณคริส ที่ช่วยแนะนำประเทศของเรา แน่นอนที่มันจะเป็นประเทศของทุกคนด้วยครับ
Seriously living in a luxury apartment! 😮 that one where I live in Nevada would cost $2200 a month and that’s not including utilities! The food is also so cheap there my god you would be living such a better life there wow.
Hey Chris, Great Video! Can you do a video for a budget of $5,000-$6,000 a month??
for this budget, you ccould live lavish....20 drinks 6 days a week, a new girl to take home 6 days a week...4 luxury meals a day...extra money for entertainment (2k bhat a day) etc....just find a place between 5-25k bhat and you're set!
I’ve heard great things about Malaysia and insight into that place?
Dude , you're retired?
So young.
That's awesome
This family is so cute and awesome. God bless them.
What a great family. Love the young girl! Great personality.
Hey man, love your channel, i have been in Thailand for a while now, I work and live here, and if i compare costs in the USA and UK its way cheaper here.
Nice life in Bangkok. It would be cool if you could make a video about “snow bird” living in Thailand 2-4 months. I believe most of the condos we see in these type videos are minimum 6 months contract.
My husband and I spent 4 months there last year and are heading back in January for approximately the same time. Can't wait!!! 🌸
2-4 month time one can consider Airbnb monthly rental
I love Thailand and Bangkok, The weekend get aways are endless, in 2 hours travel time there is so much to see and do;. The one thing that sucks for me is clothing... im 2 meter tall aka 6;7" and a size 12 or 13 in shoes... that is a no no in Thailand.
Fellow 2m bloke here living in London. I have to go to Amsterdam to get any decent clothes to fit. I can't imagine Asia being great at all! (For clothes!)
What a great family! I'm curious about the VA insurance. I'm with the VA and relocating to T-land soon, had no idea that I could utilize it overseas, need to do some research.
Another excellent video, Chris! I hope you’ll make a playlist of these Living in Bangkok on $X,000/month videos. And it would be great to see how a single person living on that same budget allocates their expenses.
Loved this video Chis! Exactly what we love to see as we have a 5-yr old and considering moving to Thailand for a while now. It shows us that it's possible to move with kids in tow. Torn between Bangkok and Phuket.
If at all possible, find more families with young kids living in Phuket, Bangkok, and Hua Hin. Thanks for all your had work and dedication on this channel.
I gotta get over there… You continue to inspire me to explore new ways of living. Another great video, Chris!
I living in ari for less than 1k a month. No problem and no complaints
That was a great video .Very helpful.
Great show as always Chris! Really nice family! As alway's stay cool, kind and generous!
Very nice video, great family and very smart girl.
What a lovely family! great video to lend insight to the cost of a comfortable medium cost of living in Thailand
Good luck to you on your teaching journey! I’m looking outside of Bangkok as well, but this video was not about me and my job Lol.
Another great video Chris, nice to know the cost of living in Thailand.
