I usually shop at that supermarket whenever I go to Puerto Rico and find the prices to be the same like here in NYC. Most of those places in that area are closed due to genetifrication, the economic situation, natural disasters and other contributring factors occurring on the island. It has a lower crime rate than many mainland cities and countries. Homicide rates usually affect those involved in drug activities. Like any tourist, use your common sense, avoid wandering alone at night among other things, and ask locals which places to avoid. Many who have traveled here worried about crime, then go on saying... they felt safer than many other cities they have visited. The crime issue in P.R. reminds me of a local news story, in which this Puerto Rican retired couple leaves P.R. to vacation out of P.R. bc of crime rates in Island...when they got to their destination (Italy) man was stabbed and killed only hours after landing.
Is P.R. 100% safe no, are we 100% unsafe no.

Verizon is no longer on the island but you do have limited service. In many places I had no coverage, otherwise I was on roaming. Or had to use WiFi calling that means being in a WiFi environment if you can find one. Was in San Juan in May 2022.

There are about 5.8 million of Puerto Ricans in U.S. ( 3.2 million in P.R.)
Florida overtook N.Y. with the largest PRican population ( after hurricane Maria)
PRicans will eventually outnumber the Cuban population, which has historically been the largest group in Florida.
NewYork🗽🇵🇷 still has more than a million Boricua residents.

In PR everything is expensive because everything is imported. Is a shame that we could do better , but the gov steals all the money that’s allocated to help. You walked a longggg way from La Ponce de Leon all the way to Bebos Cafe. I remember I used to walk all that Calle Lois’s with my friends. I feel like the only and best way to save money there is to cook yourself and if you go buy at La Plaza del Mercado ( La placita de Santurce where people go party on the weekends) is an actual market during the day. Also in Rio Piedras is less expensive in La plaza del mercado( farmers market). Also, PR doesn’t have all inclusive like other places, that’s why is so expensive as well. We have such a beautiful place, is a shame the gov is selling it and not doing their job. That’s one reason I don’t live there anymore. I do miss home, but everything is changed so much.

Also Supermax is one of the expensive supermarket, you should do Plaza Loiza or Econo.
