We buried our 17 year old calico cat, Snickers, last week in the backyard. I built a casket out of redwood boards that I have on hand. My adult daughter, who was Snickers' human Mom, put together flowers and wrapped Snickers up in her favorute blanket. Spread some flowers over her. My 18 year old grandson built a firepit. We buried her next to the fire. Her favorite place in the house was next to the fireplace. Snickers was the boss of our 7 year old Australian Shepherd dog, Oscar, ever since he was a little puppy. When we buried Snickers, we let Oscar sniff her body and he watched us as we buried her. When she was ill during the past few weeks, the two would lay next to each other, something they never did before. Today, I was playing with Oscar in the backyard and I asked him "Where's Snickers?" He turned his head and looked at her grave.
Sorry to hear about Snickers. Must have been great companion and partner in crime for Oscar. My condolences. May Snickers run free behind Rainbow bridge.
