I just wanna say that I'm not trying to make fun of the voice acting by Keith Silverstein, I just find it funny how the other voice lines are all kinda chill while in English Zhongli straights up sounds like he could die at any given moment.
I think there are voice lines for when he gets hit but the audio is just grunts while there is actual text. I used this information to realize I could now speak a little bit of Zhongli grunt.
You can say what you want about being true to character, but for me, I absolutely love the EN interpretation. These are LOW HP voicelines. This isn’t a mild hit, this is Zhongli faced with an enemy that poses an actual challenge. So I think it’s extremely fitting that he breaks his usual calm, mild mannered demeanor. As many other comments have pointed out, he used to be a warrior god, the strongest of the archons. It’s only appropriate that being in such a situation would bring out that part of him, no matter that he chooses to live among mortals now. Many people seem to forget that the Gnosis isn’t what made Zhongli a god - it’s what made him an ARCHON, the ruler of a nation. Giving it away meant denouncing his title as king, not losing his divinity. He’s still a god, still an adeptus. He’s still a warrior at heart.

I like the english straight up. He's the reason why I'm on the English dub. Everytime he reaches a low hp, I would feel so embarrassed of myself for not healing him early. I feel like he's getting mad at me 😭
Well i think it suits zhongli given how he is now. His not like in his prime and in his accension he said his gaining his powers back little by little. So its like a retired veteran in a battle. Rather than the "im OP" vibe the other languages give.

I love the first low HP voiceline in EN the most! He sounds so excited for a good battle, and I can Imagine him shedding his calm and cool, adrenaline pumping, face smudged with dirt and his mouth stretched in a grin so unlike him as he’s about to lunge again to a worthy opponent he hadn’t faced in thousands of years. He meant they don't want you screaming just to charge an attack and stuff. Kieth Silverstein did a great job voicing the different levels of combat for Zhongli. I just wish they switchdd his 5th hit voice line (he says, _"hut hut hut!"_ ) with his charge attacks voice line. The hut hut hut would go perfectly with his throwing down spears- one hut for each spear.

I think these voicelines are a great showcase of cultural differences. In western eyes, they probably view eastern people as being calm and quiet. Even in most eastern media, powerful or intelligent people are usually represented as calm collected with zen like mannerism. On the other hand, western media(especially American) depicted western people as very open, outspoken and assertive. Powerful people are often confident, bold and outstanding. The reason (in my opinion) why zhongli's voice are so different is because of this. For eastern culture, we associated calm level headed with a bit secretive demeanor even under perilous circumstances as to being powerful. While for western they have to sound bold, open or maybe even aggressive to be depicted as powerful. I think something similar happened to ningguang cn vs en voice as well. Love all the voices btw.

Asian teachings and way of life is more calm and collected compare to western. While western culture is more active, open, and fast paced hence the more openly emotional sound in zl voiceline in en. The differences in our culture are shown in the voice direction of this game.

I've switched to Japanese audio a while ago and haven't regretted it, but oh boy if another Zhongli-heavy quest comes up or if he comes home I'll be in the audio menu so damn fast to hear that marvelous English voice.
The "this is getting interesting" line gives me vibes that he is enjoying the fight (and maybe even laughing like a maniac deep inside) even though he's nearly dying.
I love this. It shows how much Keith is passionate about his job. Like.. giving it all he's got, acting like he's in real danger on the edge of a cliff. I LOVE ZHONGLI ENGLISH DUB.
I personally LOVE the English one. It doesn't sound "dying" to me, but Zhongli showing his Morax personality since it sounds a bit feral to me. Zhongli, who is one of the strongest being alive, actually got hit and maybe in danger of dying? Morax... Has an worthy opponent... ? Time to show them how he won the war.

although he decided to walk on earth as a mortal, I don’t think he can the fact that he is immortal. which means as a human, he will still live longer than anyone else.

Funny thing is this triggers every time you switch to a low hp character so whenever you need Zhongli's pillar to climb buildings or sth he acts like he's in a war even though it's in the middle of a peaceful city
I personally think Keith Silverstein is Mihoyo's best pick, not only as Zhongli but also the best voice actor in Genshin Impact universe. Keith's voice acting shows the complexity and depth of Zhongli's personality. In regular situation Zhongli is serene and wise, while in battle he is passionate and sounds enlivened by the challenges like the Warrior God that he is.
Gotta love how the eng voiceovers in general are so much more dramatic than the other languages. It’s not bad it’s just really funny, especially for me, who plays on Chinese dub.
I think it's weird how the English dub takes characters in completely different directions from all the other languages, I wish it was more in line, but that's more of a directorial choice. The voice talent is definitely amazing in all languages :)

As a Zhongli main, I have to say Zhongli is too thicc to ever hear his low hp voice lines lol He just never dies. This is why Keith's voice is my favorite. If you hear Keith's low hp voice, you know that shit hit the fan, and if Zhongli out of all people takes damage things are serious business now.
My Zhongli got *oneshot* despite his shield and massive HP and even shield buff food by the Wind Kenki during last patch's battle event 🥲 Granted, that was before they added the low HP voice lines, but wouldn't have mattered, he went from full HP with fresh shield to zero HP in one hit anyways 😓

I've switched to Japanese audio a while ago and haven't regretted it, but oh boy if another Zhongli-heavy quest comes up or if he comes home I'll be in the audio menu so damn fast to hear that marvelous English voice.
The "this is getting interesting" line gives me vibes that he is enjoying the fight (and maybe even laughing like a maniac deep inside) even though he's nearly dying.

@@hj1yl156 zhongli isnt mortal in the sense of normal mortals. He is 6k years old and has been way before he got his gnosis, he is a prime adeptus and can create mountain and cast down giant spears without the help of the gnosis.
although he decided to walk on earth as a mortal, I don’t think he can the fact that he is immortal. which means as a human, he will still live longer than anyone else.

Funny thing is this triggers every time you switch to a low hp character so whenever you need Zhongli's pillar to climb buildings or sth he acts like he's in a war even though it's in the middle of a peaceful city

I personally think Keith Silverstein is Mihoyo's best pick, not only as Zhongli but also the best voice actor in Genshin Impact universe. Keith's voice acting shows the complexity and depth of Zhongli's personality. In regular situation Zhongli is serene and wise, while in battle he is passionate and sounds enlivened by the challenges like the Warrior God that he is.

Gotta love how the eng voiceovers in general are so much more dramatic than the other languages. It’s not bad it’s just really funny, especially for me, who plays on Chinese dub.

I think it's weird how the English dub takes characters in completely different directions from all the other languages, I wish it was more in line, but that's more of a directorial choice. The voice talent is definitely amazing in all languages :)

As a Zhongli main, I have to say Zhongli is too thicc to ever hear his low hp voice lines lol He just never dies. This is why Keith's voice is my favorite. If you hear Keith's low hp voice, you know that shit hit the fan, and if Zhongli out of all people takes damage things are serious business now.
Meanwhile me the day after these voice lines released with my 47k HP Zhongli: oops tripped over explosive barrels without my shields on-
My Zhongli got *oneshot* despite his shield and massive HP and even shield buff food by the Wind Kenki during last patch's battle event 🥲
