The half circles are called valve keepers. Dang like it looked kind of hopeless at the very beginning(aka part 1) but it seems a lot better from now on. One way to see how good your valves are is using paint thinner that also exposes cracks and leaks on the valves really fast. That was a lot of water in the oil pan.
