@keeravalc10 steve loses to disjointed hitboxes, and luma is the biggest disjoint in the game since even if u hit him it doesnt matter usually with this low respawn time, and shes also safe without luma as she can run away, shield, camp and do her safe aerials

I think Acola is a solid player. He adapts well but doesn’t know what to do when His broken Steve neutral is outplayed. Dude throw so many random attacks with a 10-1 reward to risk ratio. Spargo sets show that he cracks quickly under strong pressure. Could Is a hard MU for Steve but it’s even or -1 at worst. I think he could be a top 50 maybe top 25 player without Steve. With that said, I’m happy for him and hope he doesn’t take Steve hate personally.

Correct, cloud can run through a lot of Steve’s defensive play but he can’t mitigate Steve’s offensive pressure. A -2 means that the thing that makes a character strong is taken away. So fox GnW is -2 because fox cannot play his game. Cloud gets to destroy blocks effectively and has the disjoint to fight minecart. But steve still has his insane pressure, safe Aerials, minecart setups, edgeguard, and huge disjoints. It’s even, -1 at worst. Acola simply crumbles under sparg0’s pressure.

Cloud has to respect all of those options. Bair / fair do a good job at destroying walls but he has to risk getting read as he commits to that option. Plus Steve obliterates cloud off stage and at the ledge. How does cloud stop Steve from getting back on stage? He swings bair 87 times but Steve can just build blocks > go high > mine cart > anvil and boom he’s back in neutral at no risk.

1:28 acola could have walled up and start crafting diamond in like less than a second, its not that hes not getting a chance to mine, before timestamp, acola uses craft as a bait to try and get dabuz to do something punishable (a bait that works on a lot of people btw). if U craft diamond right when u respawn, your pickaxe will be broken by the time you get to your next diamond. hes mining here so that he doesnt waste his diamond durability to mine, something he can do just fine with basic, cheap, wooden tools. doing this is actually optimal(against steve, you REALLY want to get in damage and play extra aggro if you notice them wait to craft diamond when they respawn), that way, when you actually craft your diamond, you will have a second diamond ready for your next stock, so you dont have the thought of "oh shit I need to mine diamonds", and so that your pickaxe doesnt break midcombo like it would have had he just crafted diamonds right on respawn. 20:13 this setup is broken. Any wall setup can have a minecart stationed just for shit like this. as someone going against steve, you NEED to remember this. The amount of games Ive stolen doing shit like this is insane lmao. Steve can jump back in his cart twice before he cant do it anymore, and right when steve lands into the cart, it gets a good momentum boost, enough to hit/grab someone very, very easily. and because the cart moves so slowly, as the steve, you can actually f smash the cart lol
Yeah using wooden tools first (to mine and low knockback combo) at every stock instead of right away crafting diamond tools is actually the optimal way to manage resources. That minecart stationery setup is very nice to see, I wish pro players actually willing to pick up Steve and do well with teches gameplay because Steve can be played differently and variety is always a good thing to see

And the two players who won super majors with him (acola and Onin) were both unknown prior to Steve’s release. Pretending like he is just another top tier or that it’s “just acola” is wrong based on all available data. He runs this game and it’s not close. He dictates whether your character even has a chance of winning a major.

@@deidaranohits so I agree at mid lvl minmin wins, the reason I think Steve does fin in that MU is because at high level with PBR out of minecart and up b cancels Steve can get in on minmin well enough. Minmin has great zoning tools but, like all zoners, block slows them down enough for the Steve to get in. The fact that acola ran proto over like he did tells me that Steve has counterplay to minmin’s zoning. A true -2 or -1 means there is little to know effective counterplay. Steve has enough effective counterplay to make that MU doable. Hope this makes sense.

no it's not comparable at all, every tournament had a million bayos and mks in top 32 this one had 3 steves in top 32, the other 2 steves played more of their other characters. we also had 3 corrins in top 32, 3 palus, 3 olimars people just whine about a character they don't like when it's beatable. acola is just really good at the game. rosa's a losing matchup for steve too

Spoilers for grand finals: I was really hoping this would be the day where Dabuz finally gets a supermajor win, but it was not meant to be:( Well done by Acola tho, it's looking like he finally figured out how to play against Rosalina. It's not a hard matchup for Steve, but it is a pretty strange one and Acola always looked lost in the past against Dabuz. Even when he was winning, it felt like it was mainly because his character is quite a bit higher on the tier list, not to mention less exhausting to play, but now he's actually playing confidently and beating Dabuz convincingly.
No one gets a “well-done” for Steve. He is an abomination first and foremost. This tourney went from being one greatest tournaments and competitions we possibly could have in 2023 to “delete this game” because of Steve and Game and Watch. Literally no other character has ever broken the game and ruined the joys of it than those two, other than a camping Sonic.
Brother Acola had a winning record against Dabuz going into this. He lost one set at summit and then won every run back since. He never had a Rosa problem.
Mythra, Byleth; and Joker were ironically the ones that brought in so much hype to the game because they each had notable weaknesses and vulnerabilities that weren’t “his blocks also block his own attacks”.

As a Rosa main, the only interesting thing Rosa did here was just the desyncs and sending Luma down off stage once. Calm the fuck down. They hardly did anything really amazing with Luma.

The fact that acola ran proto over like he did tells me that Steve has counterplay to minmin’s zoning. A true -2 or -1 means there is little to know effective counterplay. Steve has enough effective counterplay to make that MU doable. Hope this makes sense.

no it's not comparable at all, every tournament had a million bayos and mks in top 32 this one had 3 steves in top 32, the other 2 steves played more of their other characters. we also had 3 corrins in top 32, 3 palus, 3 olimars people just whine about a character they don't like when it's beatable. acola is just really good at the game. rosa's a losing matchup for steve too

He is the most common character in top 64 and has the most supermajor wins from previously unknown players than any other character. Steve runs this game and it’s not close. Your character is good or bad based on their MU vs Steve. Pretending that he is just another top tier is disingenuous. He IS the best.

I was really hoping this would be the day where Dabuz finally gets a supermajor win, but it was not meant to be:( Well done by Acola tho, it's looking like he finally figured out how to play against Rosalina. It's not a hard matchup for Steve, but it is a pretty strange one and Acola always looked lost in the past against Dabuz. Even when he was winning, it felt like it was mainly because his character is quite a bit higher on the tier list, not to mention less exhausting to play, but now he's actually playing confidently and beating Dabuz convincingly.
No one gets a “well-done” for Steve. He is an abomination first and foremost. This tourney went from being one greatest tournaments and competitions we possibly could have in 2023 to “delete this game” because of Steve and Game and Watch.
Literally no other character has ever broken the game and ruined the joys of it than those two, other than a camping Sonic.
People need to stop hating
