This takes. a certain amount of bravery. People who dont know you well may think you are trying to be something you are not. But you have to decide if it is a look you prefer for yourself. If it is, just be patient with those who give you a bad time, they will come around. If you decide it isnt for you, let it grow out. No harm done. I think this is a clean look that shows strength. The mustache could be grown back with the shorter haircut also. American men choose their look with an eye toward who it is they want to impress, and that can mean any of a dozen or more different looks. In the USA it is a form of personal expression.

He should have at least kept your beard and just trimmed it closer. The "razor stubble" look is considered by many to be quite sexy. Even the photo you showed him had it. But it won't take long to grow that. The same applies to the mustache. There are many attractive beard and mustache styles. My husband has a beard and mustache.
