  • Greetings all. Recently I did a inbox review of the Academy/Minicraft B-24, but its not the only reissue from Academy in 1/72 Scale. They also reissued the Minicraft PBM-5 Mariner, but is this kit actually good and worthwhile building or is it a bit of a cheap trick?

Being a nutter for flying boats this one is very much on my radar. Thanks for a good review fella. All the best.

I don’t blame you, I can remember as a 6 year old visiting New Zealand and seeing the Short Solent there! Amazing machines. Take care😁👍🏻

The emphasis in Mariner is on the first syllabul. It looks like a fine kit, though the box art makes me chuckle a bit. That must have been one huge depth charge they dropped!

Ahh thanks good sir! Definitely looking forward to building.
Hahaha might be flying through a atom bomb test then😂

In general, how large is the gout of water from a depth charge's detonation?

@@DavidRLentz-b7i Big, but not that big. Recommend "The Enemy Below", about 40 minutes in.

Two instruction manuals. Yikes!!! I too would pick the Australian version. Foliage green is a cool color for aircraft. Seems to be very elusive though!!! I've had to use colors close enough or try mixing my own version. Yuck!!!!

And I accidentally deleted my first and second reply! Yeah the two instructions are a bit messy for sure but oh well haha. Yeah I’m definitely doing the Aussie one, bit annoying they don’t have any instructions to convert it to a PBM-3 Transport like what we used, but all the parts except for the engines seem to be correct. As for Foliage Green Vallejo have a colour, Gunship Green which I think is going to be a good much, although given how weathered they are in pictures I suspect I may mix a few shades like you do to get some variety. Thanks for watching as always mate! I’ll see you on the next one😁👍🏻

      I also accidentally removed
@brenstratters2026 comment by acident😬 I haven’t heard of Outlaw Paints but I’ll have a look at them and see if it’s worth trying here in Australia. Thanks mate!

You lot require your own model makers and modelling supplies producers. Now you know what business all of you would do well to combine together your efforts in a start-up operation.
Australia is unique in standing at the crossroads between Western culture and what I understand to be Earth's most ancient culture still in existence. Put them both to good use as you develop your own modelling companies, producing your own artefacts, methods, traditions, etc.
