I bet there was a member of the film crew at Yao Ming's house telling the family to exchange hi-fives for the camera. Probably something they've never done. That's why it appeared unnatural.
Anthony Bennett and Kwame Brown might be the 2 biggest busts in recent history, with Greg Oden it wasn't that he was complete trash on the court he just couldn't stop getting injured. Anthony Bennett couldn't even hold a bench spot in the G league and ended up in low level leagues overseas
It was definitely the nfl draft. Here in the states a lot of us get excited for all the picks we get to our nfl teams. Nba draft ain’t as big but can be exciting too. But nfl there’s a lot of places that do draft parties
Greg Oden was actually a great player, not a bust in that way, but his career was cut short because of injuries, micro-tear in his right knee. This was the start of an injury-plagued career that prevented the center from fulfilling his potential
That 1982 pick of James Worthy from North Carolina, Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins were all on the same team together. That team was absolutely loaded. Daz, fun fact for you since you mentioned David Robinson. If you noticed, he went to Navy. He was originally going to be a submariner but he got too tall to fit in a sub. Blessing in disguise haha
What's crazy to think about is, James Worthy was the best player on a team with MJ on it at one point. As a Boston fan, Worthy does not get enough credit for how great he was.
Greg Oden wasn't a bad player, he just couldn't stay healthy. Had a number of serious injuries and never recovered. Cade Cunningham was pretty good his rookie season in 2021, got injured last year. It's just the Pistons are never good so they don't get much media coverage
Facts. Although in my opinion Greg Oden was a bigger let down than Bowie not through any fault of his own. But at least Bowie played a solid 11 seasons and averaged 11 pts and 7.5 boards. Oden only played for 105 regular season games in which he averaged 8 points
@@Da_Real_Luis Although the back court of Drexler and Jordan together with the Blazers in the 80s and 90s would have been sweet to see as a Portland fan. Agree with you about Bowie and Oden. Greg was definitely a bigger bust than Sam.
It's not that Ben Simmons cannot shoot. It is that he REFUSES to shoot. Defenders have no need to press him because they know he will simply pass. You can be a great point guard coming into the NBA and not be a great shooter. When Jason Kidd was a rookie, they'd call him AYSON KIDD because he had no J. Still, he worked hard and became a very serviceable shooter who currently is 15th in NBA history with 3 pointer made. Magic was the same way.
I wouldn’t consider Greg Oden the biggest bust because 1) it was injuries that derailed his career and 2) he was actually quite good when he did play. A lot of people consider him one of the bigger “what if’s” in NBA history but that’s not quite the same as biggest bust.
Greg Oden def wasn’t the biggest bust, he had all the talent and was good when he played. Just had unfortunate injuries, his legs were two different sizes and that helped cause the 7 footers health problems. Whether knee or back or foot. Just unfortunate, great player though
Joe Smith the 1995 1st pick actually played a crucial role as a backup to help the Cavs win their first Championship, against the Warriors in 2016. 20 years after he was drafted. Almost all these guys had really good careers
Greg Oden should not be classified as a bust. He wasn't a bad player, he was just chronically injury prone and could never stay healthy. Anthony Bennett to most people is the biggest draft bust in NBA history, because he was just really bad lol.
Simmons don't get hate just because he can't shoot, he gets hate because he NEVER tried to improve his shooting and became unplayable in the playoffs... it got to a point where he was passing up wide open dunks and layups because he was afraid to get fouled and shoot free throws (and on top of that he's the biggest diva in basketball)
Exactly. Maybe in the past it was just because he couldn't shoot, but now its cause he sucks and doesn't try to improve or even attempt to score. Before he would at least play elite defense and make plays. But ever since he got exposed in that Hawks series, his weaknesses have gotten worse and the criticisms are more valid now than ever. If it was just because he couldn't shoot, he'd still be an all-star like before, but it's more than that now.
@@SeeJayTML If he tried to improve he'd actually shoot in games and not just those once or twice a season things or end of quarter shots. You don't improve by just shooting in regular practice gyms, you do it on the NBA court. Look at Giannis. NFL draft is a huge event. Watch it every year---it can make or break a team, especially if you are picking an QB early in the first round. But it is still the best way to build a great team.
Yeah, Greg Oden had a ton of talent, unfortunately he was plagued with stress fractures in his feet that kept him out. They knew he had these chronic problems with his feet but they took a gamble and drafted him instead of Kevin Durant.
They're great every year, but it's hard to build a championship squad with the right chemistry when your top players only stick around for 1 or 2 years max. But that's the system he's built. It's just a funnel into the NBA and that's exactly his sales approach to attracting the best talent. Can't really scoff at 4 final fours and a championship though.
Anthony Edwards is the biggest bust. Atleast the Cavs made the right picks with LeBron, Kyrie and Wiggins who they later traded for Kevin Love and won a championship.
Portland Trailblazers have a long list of big men (center position) #1 draft picks busts. Bill Walton doesn't really qualify but he was gimpy. Sam Bowie, Kevin Duckworth, Greg Oden etc etc etc.

Kwame had a rough break tho, not really fair to his career. I think he would have been a top center (during his years) under the right circumstances.
Pretty sure Greg Oden is an assistant coach with Ohio State though so he landed on his feet.
