Regular Car Reviews: 2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4

- The SRT-4 is the souped-up version of the 2nd-Gen Neon. You're looking at the last hurrah before Chrysler stopped making small cars. Right, the Dodge Neon was one-inch longer than the base model Caravan, I know. For three years, this Neon was the 2nd fastest car Chrysler made, behind the Dodge Viper.
The MLP toy dangling on the mirror perfectly punctuates all the attitudes expressed by this car. It's symbolism at its finest.
"I like things other people may not like"?
***** I was going to go with obnoxious, attention-seeking manchild but sure, let's go with what you said.
***** no one liked mlp before 4chan turned, what was meant to be a joke into a worldwide fad among neckbeards.

People who are different are baaaaaad.
Roland T.H.E. Jabberwocky this guy does have a point about exclusion. grown men who obsessively sexualize the anthropomorphised underage female horses in a half-hour long toy commercial meant for five year olds are certainly well-adjusted people who deserve our respect- nay, admiration
Holy shit...that's the old Sport Compact Car project Neon. Lost the AAR style stripes, but StopTech brakes, orange paint, that hood, side pipe...If this is the SCC car, it has a lot of well thought out work done to it.
Rick Novak You're right. This is the same car.
RegularCars Fantastic. I was on a late night binge of your videos (english degree here as well) and had actually just reread part 1 of the car's build in SCC. Small world. Keep up the great work.
RegularCars pls do a nissan sentra ser spec v
+RegularCars nice trigun reference XD
+Rick Novak I thought I was the only one who noticed for a minute, and for another minute, I thought I knew shit about cars.
If Kylo Ren was a car....
lmao
So that means that Han Solo was a Hemi Cuda?
UUUUUGGGGGGHHHHH WHY DOESN'T ANYONE LIKE MY TOTALLY AWESOME AND DIFFERENT LIGHTSABER? IM SO HARD.(BLOW-OFF VALVE NOISE) NOTICEME!
Han Solo was an old Flathead Ford bootlegger.

Why am I not surprise to find that the owner of this car is a brony?
I've wanted the SRT-4 for about 5 years now, and coincidentally I became a brony. I don't truly know the correlation.
+WinXPwhiz I've owned 3 of them. While they were amazing compared to other cars and platforms of around the same time period, technology has far elapsed the capabilities of this car. Better to go AWD/RWD.
+mundotaku Not surprised he's a Rainbow Dash fan, at least. This is kind of the Rainbow Dash of cars, when you think about it: It has a tough, gotta-go-fast attitude and _some_ of the muscle to back it up, but it's still cute and tame and looks pretty much the same as all the others of its kind except in the fine details.
+stevethepocket That makes so much sense thinking about it now. Get this man a cookie.
stevethepocket thank you for supporting my theory this car is for bronies. I mean, you really think this car is cool and though. it is a FWD trying to pass as one of the Japanese fast cars of the era (WRX and EVO), and assembled by some guys counting the hours for their shift. This would be the ultimate car for someone who thinks My Little Pony would the ultimate show. Fine details and Chrysler/Dodge is not something that is compatible.
"Made in Canada." Its not angry...its just...
Sorry
+Keirnoth ohh yuh beat me to it eh.
I'm Canadian this is .. Lmao
If you lived in certain regions of Canada you'd understand why we are crazy/angry. It snows and is below freezing 8 months of the year where I'm from. We don't see the sun often either.
Trevor.
When I was in high school and the srt-4 came out, people had respect for it in the way that they would say "If I ever had to have a Neon, I guess I'd have the SRT," which was a masked way of saying, "I would choose the SRT-4 over many many other cars, and even though I might not sell my car to get one right now, I definitely want to drive one. it seems fun, and obtainable." Altough it always held that It's-Still-a-Neon badge, it still had an odd sense of appeal, and a cool factor that was just ever so slightly hidden behind the curtain, like looking through a loose tank top and seeing the side-boob of some perfectly shaped b-cups with no bra.
I bought a show room condition '05 neon srt-4 with 48k miles on it and drove across two states to get it because of this video :)
FREEDOM AINT FREE
sounds expensive
Hey, Alex from the future...do you still have it? How did it hold up?
3:03 Putting Rainbow Dash in your car adds 1 horsepower.
pony car
I have a ford ranger, If I loaded the entire 6ft bed with MLP toys how much horsepower would I gain?
should be an easy 120 hp
Coonotafoo more horsepower to travel to Alpha Centauri galaxy in less than 20 months. Will probably go faster than light
This baby runs on...THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP
did he really just make a trigun reference? i love this guy more and more. XD
bluetextonwhitebg
Yeah, holy shit talk about social versatility...this guy could gab about anything with anyone!
3 years later and I finally caught it.
Wait where?
I always thought the SRT-4 was a guilty pleasure car. It was a car that you wanted, but it wasn't appropriate to say that you wanted one. Even now, I think a stock one would be the perfect daily. I feel like they've always been a slave to the river mentality of non-car people. Sort of like the Honda Civic. They can be great cars, but their reputation has been ruined by the high school kid who wants into the car scene but takes shortcuts just to get there.
They ARE great daily drivers now. $3-5k, a bit of maintenance, and you you've got a fun to drive cheap to run sport compact with a 500whp capable longblock. Just a tune and you are knocking on 270whp with 2900lbs and over 30mpg if you take it easy (you won't.) Spend a few grand more and it's 4-500whp.
I bought an ACR this year and it's a blast to drive. I hated on them when I was younger because it was "just a neon" but they really are great drivers cars. My friend bought a GT-350R and he is scared to drive it flat out because it's such a monster. The SRT4 can be driven flat out without poo coming out, just a big smile and all the turbo noises you could ask for.
@@atodaso1668 Nearly bought one, but doubt I'd like that ACR (air conditioner removed). Also the idea of differential making at least 4k rpm on the highway wasn't going to play nice with a defective head gasket...
@@wumpusthehunted2628 It has A/C and its around 3k @70mph. The ACR has harness compatible seats, lighter smaller and wider wheels, adjustable suspension, and thicker roll bars.
Exactly. You put my exact thoughts into words. Oh how I wish I could find a stock SRT4... Now every one I see around me has some ugly bodywork to it and or some extensive list of "stage 1, stage 2, stage 3" mods and burnt clutches and scissor doors.
This review is hilarious.. lmao. It is a very angsty car for sure.
The SRT-4 was a very interesting car. It's amazing how many hateful "it's still a Neon" comments they still evoke. Say what you will, but stock these cars did 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, and the 1/4 mile in 13.8 to 14.0 at 100+ mph. They topped out at over 150mph. All while getting about 30mph on the highway and costing about 20 grand.
I owned an 04 for a couple of years. It had light mods. The engine and transmission held up very well, but the rest of the car fell apart. Wheel bearings went early, motor mounts broke, electrical problems, broken half-shafts, etc.. It was not a high quality automobile, but it was pretty damn quick. It annoyed the crap out of a lot of Camaro/Firebird (LT1 or older) and Mustang owners that a stock, 4-cylinder, Neon-based car could hang with or beat them.
Indeed, I think the SRT-4's real problem was that Dodge effectively riced it. They took the Neon which was cheap and slow but far from the worst American compact and made it cheap and quick. But then they made it look fast.
Those oversized wheels and that rear spoiler they pried from a late model Toyota Supra just made it look too ridiculous, made it look like it was trying too hard, when underneath they'd really made a nice little entry sport sedan.
Honestly, I think the sadly departed Sport Compact Car got this one right. Delete the wing, more modest alloys, and even wearing that crazy orange this car looks...nice, in its own way. It's not shouting for attention as much as the stock ones did and that's how a good sports sedan/hot hatch should be.
It doesn't need to be a sleeper by any means but there should be enough there that enthusiasts notice what it is and every one else passes it by...
inudude15 I always liked the look of the SRT-4.
I like it in the way this one is presented here. The chin spoiler, the dual exhausts, the lower stance; just enough aggression without the NOPI wing and steroidal wheels.
It's sort of like the Golf GTI, or a good M car. Just enough to let the enthusiasts know what it is, and tame enough to be ignored by the population at large, johnny law included :)
inudude15 I can personally attest to the fact that the spoiler is functional. I had my 2004 at 152mph on RT 81 in northern PA. It felt more stable at 150 than it did at 110. You could feel the rear end being pushed down. Yes, it was retarded to be going that fast on a public road, especially at night.. but it was a blast. I was ticketed for 84 in a 65. VERY lucky.
This is why I have no issue with the spoiler. The car is fast enough to warrant it, which is exactly what SRT said when they designed the car.
inudude15 I think one of the reasons that Dodge put the tall spoiler on it was a slight tip of the hat to the old 69 Daytona Charger, I like the look of the spoiler personally and will never remove or change mine. I also agree with hartsickdisciple about the spoiler, I have had mine up to 135 mph on both rt51 and rt 43 and the faster I go the more rock solid it feels
And as far as being ignored by johnny law I can attest to that, I NEVER do the speed limit where I live (south west PA) and am always at least 10-15 mph above it and have never gotten pulled over in a year of driving it heavily every day even though I know people who have gotten nailed for barely 5 over.

what do you need rear power windows for they had standard AC
This is advanced cost cutting.
This is super normal in 80s and 90s BMW and Mercedes cars.
You could get the front power windows or if your super fancy also the back power windows for double the price (and maybe the ability to lock them to keep your stupid kids from rolling them down)

The type of car a guy in his early 20's buys because he got his gf pregnant because he still wants something "fun" but also needs to reassure his gf that the car is practical.
Way to discribe my life
Alex Hecimovich what do you own this car lol.
no but i want one and everything else you said pretty much fits lol
Alex Hecimovich lol Go out and get one then lol.
But yeah they are cool cars luckily I am not in that predicament. the only real benefit of not being able to get a gf lol
yeah haha i need to brush up on my standard so i dont burn out a clutch in the first week, im going to get a junker first
3:00 to 3:37 , best skit ever, need more of these.
And Roman needs his own album with all most of these intros/outros!
holy shit this dude said femboy before it became a twitter thing
"blow off valve all the time" sounds like every one I ever see haha
I recently was driving around about 1:15 in the morning. I ran into a Atlantic blue metallic 2004 srt4. The sound was incredible for a four cylinder. I had to ask this guy about his car. Crower stage two cams, crower 600 hp rods, slightly higher compression pistons. All equalling to a car capable of 5-600hp. It was still under the break in period. With a tune of 340-360hp. 17lbs of boost.
NOW your going to have to trust me. I have driven a 2008 gtr. 485hp 3.5 sec 0-60. Godzilla in the flesh. The neon... i... I still dream of it... the obnoxious blow off valve... the cams loping... spitting a beautiful song.. the wonderful song and hiss of bouncing the rev limiter... never in my life would I have thought this prior.. the srt4 is more fun to drive than a gtr.. how can this be? How can such a normal car be so fun..? The neon srt4 is a king, a king of performance tuning. Capable of 750 hp, with a short list of parts.. the neon deserves respect. It is more fun than godzilla.. once you drive a moded built srt4 you will know capability.. you will know the king..
MadCapMotard nah
Been in one I will keep my Camaro
Supra *his brain explodes*
American cars fanboy
TDS seventy-five supras are ass
TheRealDirtyDan I didn't say that the neon is ass I just said that the supra is a better tuner and instead of saying ass say something useful like I don't like the supra because they have rear seats dor gnomes
I drive a 5.0 5 speed fox mustang with 4.10 gears and a highly modified srt4 neon challenged me to race when I was driving home last night. I tell you what, I got a good lead on him at first but when it spooled up he put at least a car length on me, this car has gained new respect from me for sure
Alec Berlin 5.0 foxes were called 5.slows. Unless it's got some work it's not a very impressive victory.
I doubt it was highly modified. Stock vs. stock the SRT has a considerably quicker 0-60 and 1/4 mile time. I used to smoke the fox body 5.0s and the generation after the fox with the 4.6L V8 all the time with my 03 SRT which only had intake and exhaust, unless it was a Cobra terminator or had considerable mods. That being said, i always liked the fox body mustangs. They just started to really show their age in the early 2000s.
Gonna have to defend the SRT4, even though its a bit odd. Considering it was faster than the equivalent WRX and only drove half the wheels, Dodge did something right. And it was cheaper. But apparently the traction was poor, so there was a tradeoff. I'll be excited to see how the grandson of this guy turns out to be.
No need for explanation. Chrysler has always been able to deliver speed at bargain basement prices. The build quality of the package has always been the question. People didn't like to hear it, but the SRT-4 would have toasted new factory 6 packs and Hemi 426's from the glory days at the track.
Why the hell is there a My Little Pony hanging from the mirror?
Makes it 20% cooler.
+50 kw
Somalian Butt-Pirate Well done for the abusive language...
rockinchimp And homophobic to boot. Two for the price of one!
Robert Miller who the fuck cares
The sound these cars made from the factory was intoxicating to a 19 year old gear head, the poppy exhaust, the loud blowoff.. Memories.
The hell you talking about ,still does even at 30+
+Mopar Jimmy it is still one of a kind
My 2005 SRT4 Neon is sitting at 267k miles, stock trans, stock turbo, basically still a stock engine, and I just have the Stage 2 with toys setup I got a week after buying it new. If you treat it right, it will last forever and be fun as hell the whole time.
I've owned an srt-4 for almost a decade. This is hilarious, nailed just about every point. You can't take yourself seriously when you own one.
Damn you Mr Regular!!! You single-handedly raised the price of used Neon SRT-4's! Ben Bernanke has nothing on you, apparently...
I always thought it was hilarious that they made a neon into a performance car. I like them 😀
the neon is maybe the only car that can put a smile on your face when you are in the drivers seat, enjoying the throaty exhaust and nice blow off valve sounds....and then instantly feel shame the moment you park the car and the realization hits you that you were just enjoying one of the lamest looking girly cars ever made. Even the people behind the first fast and furious movie were able to see that the SRT4 was not cool (dodge offered them free to be the hero car, it was rejected) Considering some of the cars that WERE in that movie, that has got to hurt.
RCPro Driver The first f&f came out in 2000 I think, the srt4 came out in 2003...
Warning, Danger To Manifold ! it was for 2fast 2 furious
+RCPro Driver all it needs are different headlights and it almost looks like a Holden commodore.
+RCPro Driver Until it breaks down because it's a Dodge
+{ Funkyclown} most dodges look like hondas in comparison to neons, they rival British Leyland in reliability
Did this dude just briefly mention Trigun and the Who? I love this guy even more now.
"and a replica of Vash's revolver sitting on his desk"
...and I thought no one else watched that show
Ive always been indifferent about Neons. And i cant get over that damn grille. That just kills it for me.
Oh, and nice Rainbow Dash on the mirror.
The neons of the 90s were fantastic the early redesign for the early 2000s was was terrible
I love the pan to the pony during the shots of what makes the car "manly" well done sir.
So, my experience with Neons has been Shit. I never understood why every 2002 Dodge Neon had a spoiler on it (except for my wife's... though that car has passed on) so this review made me better understand.
That orange makes me want to vomit Halloween all over the place.
Every neon I've ever seen has been falling apart in some capacity, or oxidized beyond recognition.
I once dated a girl with a Neon. She had to pull the gauge cluster out every time she started it to reset it, otherwise none of her gauges would work, allegedly. Never understood it myself, but we didn't date long enough for me to end up caring.
Also, Hi Cyril.
d.notive I've had exactly one mechanical failure in one year of ownership. Blower motor quit. Very minor and very easy fix. What you have to remember is that the SRT-4 doesn't use the same major components as most Neons. Helps with reliability a lot. I would never buy a standard Neon.
d.notive HI! Yea my wife's neon was a piece of shit, and apparently that's just all Neons (thought from Robert Miller's comments maybe not so much with the SRT-4)
Cyril the Wolf I mean, the interior is still shit for sure. Mechanically, it seems ok, though. Knock on wood. Or cheapo plastic...
Well good on that. Hers was breaking down all the time until one time it broke down for good in the middle of Rush Hour on US-22 :|
It helps that you have a manual transmission too, I'm sure.
Freedom ain't free brother
HULKSTEr
Okay, so the bottom line is: This is an economy car made less economical, right?
*an
***** The GTI, Mini Cooper and Focus ST still get 30mpg though.
Benedocta The SRT-4 was originally advertised as getting 28 mpg while the regular neon made 32. That's really not a big difference. Also that was ten years ago so of cores the new cars are more fuel efficient.
GiantMagic Pterodactyl
And all that aside, who the fuck expects to modify a car and have it just as economical as when it left the factory ?! I dont get some people sometimes.
Actually, turbocharged cars are more efficient. You're using exhaust gas yo spin the turbine therefore creating power from energy that would otherwise go out the tailpipe. Not using fuel...
who the FUCK holds their pen like that?!
I know someone who does and his handwriting is terrible.
SJshark needs to stick to battlefront. Cars trigger him too much.
Reckl ess Do you not know where that line was from? Made yourself look like an idiot.
Reckl ess Btw I love cars...
Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up.
I have never wanted anything less than I want that car right now
HAHA
***** You make a good case, SirDingo, but I'd rather go slower in a car that isn't as tacky. The whole thing is tacky. I'd rather have the original Neon ACR, because at least it's funky and cheerful and doesn't think it's an Evo
@@xSirDingo does it actually come with the black hood, because that's really quite bad
The SRT-4 is owned by a brony...enough said.
i was laughing throughout this video. Femboy curves and cardio hips
what ARE cardio hips though? :/
when a girl gets thicker AFTER cardio
@@pontiacGXPfan or a femboy like neon...
I test drove a highly modified one once years ago. I was impressed. It was the fastest 4 cylinder car I have ever driven.
WTF an SRT-4 Is one fast car.
150mph and kinda like a Viper Jr.
I always thought they were cool especially ACR
Eddie 150mph isn’t fast
@@martinkriener7146 its fast enough
Ronnie Basnett standard cars are faster than that. The most important thing is acceleration tho. 150mph on the autbahn isn’t special kinda
@@martinkriener7146 0-60 in 5.2ish stock in a 20k car is good.
Sideways Lens yeah that is fax but 150mph isn’t fast, even back then. For 20k you get speed but the worst fucking interior and low quality build. Most American cars are kind of low build quality
Here after the new Neon review. Roman, after 7 years, your Jack and Diane pastiche still gets stuck in my head every time I see a Neon drive down the road.
well, looks like you have to do a Cobalt SS now :P
the guy who made the video is loser 1994 eagle talon is the best car made and so is a neon
I don't know what your talking about.
+Chobbler Gobbler what the fuck are you talking about?
+Joseph Domiano he did a Saturn Ion Redline which is the same engine as the supercharged cobalts i believe
I had 3 of these- super fun car for the price, very stout and loves modifications. I remember nights when I used to go out hunting for Mustangs and Camaros and this car would never disappoint. I had to grow up eventually though, especially if I want to keep up with today's stock 12 second muscle.
There's plenty of evidence out there stating otherwise. I don't have anything to prove on a 13 year old car that I no longer own. All the cars ran similar 1/4 mile times of low 14's high 13's. With the neons being lighter and turbo'd, it's easy to make them walk the more heavy V8's. Not to mention $3.5k worth of headers intakes and exhaust on the V8's would net them what- 25hp? Less than a grand into the already boosted neon would almost double the hp/tq. Hell, just buying larger injectors, a tune and running E85 can get you close to 400ft.lbs of torque. I'm not saying anything negative about the V8's, I now own two. But I'm not going to discount logic just because this is a neon.
Who's talking about LS1's? You said LT's. Make up your silly little mind. That's why so many people still run around with just the bare minimum 4.6's/5.7's and still get their asses handed to them. Thinking their cars are "so fast" just because they sound so mean, gtfo of here. People like them are no better than ricers, and you're in the same boat. Nice try. And yes, 3.5k at the time for a proper set of headers intakes and exhausts (early to mid 2000's). I know what I'm talking about since I've set foot in both worlds.
+CalypsoNotch408 lol. No shit LS's are bang for buck. But as I stated again in my last post... I was talking about LT1s and the rustangs 4.6. No where did I mention the LS series engine. That was you trying edge me out on a losing conversation. But sure, I've walked away from a couple of C6s as well in my skittle. That was the fun thing about them. For the price of one, you could mod out a little pocket rocket to out run them (and it didnt take too much). Sure it'd only get you so far in the end, but most of the time you're just running against someone who buys them as an accessory rather than for what they're capable of. You're singing to the choir about FWD which is the reason why i no longer own them.
I posted my original post because of what these cars did in the early to mid 2000s. Not what they can do now. Just because I'm a Chevy/LS guy now doesn't mean I'll discount what these cars did in the past. Thats what makes me an enthusiast.
Don't worry about the guy calling you out. He's just a troll who thinks he knows more than anyone else. Also I completely agree with you about V8 and V6 owners.. I think that know matter car you drive or what is done to it does not make someone a ricer. How they act and behave behind the wheel is what makes them a "Ricer".
3:16 WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
[Who else did that after watching the video?]
BLOW OFF VALVE ALL THE TIME RWWWWWR
Lmao this was a hilarious episode
That looks nearly identical to the SRT4 that Sport Compact Car magazine had back in the day. Right down to the Stoptech calipers and side exhaust.
Raycevick compelled me to come here
and I have to say
Its pretty nice here
I think Ill stay
Man, that is the nicest Neon I've ever seen
LOL easter egg here, he jerks in his shorts, then talks about washing them in his sink at 3:15, watch his focus st video... he is washing them in the sink.
The Browning Hi Power and Victory at Sea are both freaking awesome.
Mcdonald's Rainbow Dash toy hanging on car mirror: The new flaming decal.

Yup.
Dat Trigun reference
I've said it before and I'll say it again. PLEASE do a 2002 Nissan Sentra SE R Spec-V!!!
djhero0071 Those are cool
+djhero0071 My cousin had one of those. It was pretty cool
I heard those are cool
***** Nice, yeah these things sound so good with a little work.
+djhero0071 I was going to get one of these when I didn't think I could afford the SRT4. Eventually I found one in my price range- and I couldn't have been happier.
And with the knowledge that RCR watches Trigun, comes the cataclysmic pain of realizing that this is my favorite youtube channel.
"so this one makes 230 horse? 240 horse? 250 horse? It's hard to tell because.."
(I cut in)
Because it's FWD and the front suspension was already flipping out at 200 horse.
Not really. Especially with the S3 K/W coilovers it's got on it.
Oh a model of coilovers fix FWD. Neat.
They mitigate it for sure. So does the LSD that's installed. So does proper driver input. I'm not saying FF is the best layout in the world, but I am saying that the SRT-4 can easily put more than 250 horses to the ground no problem if you know how to launch it correctly. It's not like it hasn't been done before.
And as long as your tires are perfectly straight and the road is perfectly flat and there is no debris and you know the torque curve of the engine and if...
Yeah, yeah. I've driven the fancy tight suspension, equal length half shaft, blah blah blah. It's difficult and unrewarding considering you can buy a $1,000 RWD car and have a bunch of fun.
This car corners pretty flat, actually. RWD is great, but a car with a good suspension will outperform one with a soft one in the corner, FWD or not. Weight distribution is way more important than layout at the end of the day.
Ever consider that maybe driving an FF sports car is only difficult for you? Sure, RWD is generally better, but a good driver shouldn't have that much trouble with FWD.
Original owner of a 2004 here. Heavily modified. The guy in the video forgot to mention how cheap it was to crank this thing over 500 hp and also the tons of aftermarket parts that are still available today, including suspension upgrades, coilovers, etc, etc...I have owned several cars but few are as fun to drive as that SRT-4. Still smiling from ear to ear when i floor this beast. Today, it is hard to find any of these cars stock. Most are 400HP and up. Have no intention of selling it either.
never heard of a car be described as "femboy" before...
With the number of gun mentions you guys do, you should make a RegularGuns channel and do reviews in this style haha. Great channel btw I love these car reviews.
That would bE cool
Neons are good cars if you give them the chance and I wish that they don't get all the hate they get
That opening comment regarding the Prelude SI vs domestic and Dad watching documentaries pretty much sums up my first year of looking for a car.
Going back to your roots I see, Mr. Regular? One of your best so far!
Also, massive brohoof to the owner for keeping his Dashie mirror ornament during filming! /)
Lmfao I remember just about every video somebody asked for you to review this car.
Also, I heard that Trigun reference. In case you thought that would go unnoticed.
And finally congrats on finally being able to review this thing. I pretty much agree with you. Fantabulous work gentlemen.
I looked away from the video for one second to go to chat
I tabbed back at 3:11
As an aside.. I love how the Mopar reviews always result in you going full code brown.
Vash's revolver - love it.
Good, someone else caught that. Haha
Basil Lowe lol i did too
Me three. my brain actually completed it after hearing 'novelty samurai swords'; heard 'Vash's' and instantly thought 'revolver'. DAT GUN
Also, now I get my fondness for the SRT-4, it being the shunned odd man out that it is. Always liked the lonely weirdos.
Hey!! I'm not - eh, fuck it..I am one.
I literally lol'd at 'a replica of Vash's revolver on his desk' .
I've always weirdly liked these
This made me miss my SRT4. It was totally a fun car.
idk, I owned a neon. It was faster than most hondas, and great at autox. I don't understand the neon hatred. This thing took the gloves off and decimated every other FWD car when it came out.
I've been searching for any reference to the Dodge Stratus by Mr. Regular and finally found it! Most regular-feeling and regular-looking car I've driven
No jab at the manual rear windows? Son, I am disappoint.
...but not too much, cause it was awesomely on-point, as usual.
I had who bought one of those after we graduated high school. Of all the things I don't remember from my college years, the end of that video perfectly demonstrates one thing I do: The freakin blow-off valve of that car just never quit.
funny video, fwd does suck i have and evo 8 and s14 240. But a stage 3 srt4 with turbo toys is a fast spoolin fun time. Keep your sweet v8 that srt sounds better and would keep a smile on the whole drive even looking like a neon... too many haters not enough fast cars
Agreed. If you drive one of these and don't smile you're not a car guy. I picked one up this summer and have been having a blast.
the blow off valve actually made me LOL. literally everyone has a BOV on their SRT4
a 1911 wouldve been a more apt choice instead of the hi-power
the owner of this car would have a hi-point
I own an SRT4, and I found this video funny. I still enjoy driving mine as a daily. 6 years, 60k miles. All that time and I only threw $3k at her. I'm honestly thinking about putting a roof rack on it to haul kayaks. Fuck it. Haha
Am I the only person who hates white gauge clusters? They just look so cheap, on any car.
Yep.
They're silver, not white.
Paul B Insignificant difference. Still looks gaudy.
If the whole rest of the interior is cheap (since it's a dodge, I'm sure it is) then any set of gauge clusters will look cheap no matter what the color.
Sekushiwolf you sayt in one of the worst quality interiors of the time and you complain about the gauge cluster?
A cousin of mine had a '96 2-door manual Neon, all stock and I remember it really hauling ass. Got it new and traded it in for a Myata a couple years later, which quickly got stolen. My mom also got a '96 Neon brand new, though a 4-door automatic. Wasn't quite as fast but it was the very first car I ever drove. After about 100k miles it really started falling apart and had one problem after another. In 2004 my stepdad acquired the Neon. Somehow they managed to hold on to it until 2012. It was on life support, and they offered to give it to me or sell it to me dirt cheap when my POS Stratus died. I politely declined and got an old Civic instead.
Pretty sure that's sport compact car magazine's old project car.
"and has a replica of Vash's revolver on his desk." Trigun reference you just became my favorite user I subscribed to.
You keep mentioning 4th gen Preludes in your videos. Yet you haven't done a review on one yet.
As a 4th gen Prelude owner, I really need you to do that one. kthx.
As as built GSX owner I laughed my ass off at "Oh we invited you Neon, didn't you get our text message?"
Cool story, bro.
manrightchea True, but a lot of non-douchey Neon SRT-4 owners are the same kind of people that are DSM'ers and non-douchey Evo guys. For many SRT-4 owners, the GSX/TSi, or Evo is their next car.
+Sean Henry You're actually right lol.. I'm about to buy an srt4, I was deciding between that and a GSX. I want an Evo for my 2nd looool
Mr. Regular, two things.
1. What the heck is "Victory at Sea"?!
2. 3:03 I think the owner of this Neon is a brony. You can tell by the Rainbow Dash hanging in the mirror.
1: If one would use google, and look up "Victory at Sea," one would see that it was a documentary about Naval Warfare during WWII
I went and found that Roger Daltrey AMA you referenced, and found that exact post. Really something to think about, thanks for the reference. I'm probably going to end up reading that whole thread. Man, the value proposition of this show is great. You come for the comedy, but you *stay* for the education.
What's the guy with the clipboard doing?
Is anyone gonna point out that a Browning Hi-Power (used as an anology for "American") is a Belgian pistol? Yes John Browning did do some of the development, and it was a continuation of the 1911 lineage, but it was made by FN Herstal over in Europe.
Nnnnuuurgrghhghhgh, the way Roman holds a pen. Gaaaaaahhhh.
The dodge neon is like that one cousin who's a little slow, and doesn't really have the best balance, but you can't not love it. It's got a character, which these days is saying quite a lot.
I think the Neon would get less flak if it was RWD.
It doesn't matter people hate cuz it's cool to, it seams anyway you ask why they say "it's a neon duh" but the don't realize every single sports car came from normal everyday cars. All of them from the beginning of car manufacturing. People who hate are wrong to judge people's preferences Honda's, wrx's, evo's. It's like saying "Fuck you the color black is fucking dumb you need to like green cuz everyone else does"
Say what you will about the SRT4 but it has the best stock exhaust note of any inline 4 imo, and this is coming from a Cobalt SS owner.
"It's still a queer neon" lol good still love this car you should do a supra mk3 or mk4
This car is like that kid at school who seems to have a messed up upbringing so everyone ignores him but one day you find the strength to ask him what's wrong and he gets mad at you for talking to him and remains alone until he randomly stops turning up a few years later.
I've had a couple friends with some very fast SRT-4 Neons. However, I still think they're extremely ugly and wouldn't own one.
I love how you did this video in the style of your early ones. Fucking hilarious.
I have actualy driven one of these. Its a great car good amount of power stock and very comfortable. Just my opinion.
Weird cost cutting. They put manual windows in the back, power in the front..?
Better than putting power in the rear and manual in front.
That's the most normal thing ever, at least on most economy hatches of that era. Toyota Yaris has it for example.
Yaris has just one set of manual, and one of power? Granted, I like and prefer manual windows (all around, obviously).
djkenny Yes, front are powered and rear are manual. Talking about the 2000 model at least. I like manual windows too, you can open them without power. Only annoying thing is that you cannot open the passenger window while driving. I wish the handles wouldn't be so small too.
Because of the way they designed the doors in the 2nd gen neon's they could not put power windows in the back without a redesign. cost cutting. Now R/T dodge's just stand for leather seats.
what are the odds that i would come back and watch this video again on the day I finished my replica of Vash's revolver?
0:46 made in...Canada?!?!?!?!?!
Really?!
We're responsible for this thing too, I thought we payed our dues with justin beiber.
+Kyle Thurmeier With american parts so no its still the american's fault for producing this shit.
HOORAY!!! THIS ISN"T OUR FAULT!!!
And Canada has already apologized many times for Justin Bieber, so I'm not gonna say sorry again, Sorry. FUCKIN' SMOKE BREAK EH BUD
You're still paying for Bryan Adams lol
@@FirebirdCamaro1220 Yeah but we gave you Letterkenny. And Rush.
One of the kids in the neighborhood had one of these srt's. Massive sound and spitting fire...it was so polar opposite in looks and hellfire under the hood.
lmaoooo @ 3:04 this is me everyday ahahahahahah perfectttttttttt
This actually described me in High School pretty well, right down to the Vash Revolver weirdly. I never had swords above my tv though...
"Femboy curves~"
Can confirm. Am femboy.
I rock an 04 SRT4 as my DD. I'm 30 yrs old and own a 08 LS3 Vette for my weekend car. SRT4 is a great little car...just take care of it and it wont have any issues. Tuning the car after mods is a bit of a hassle but so is every turbo car. Car has attitude and is unique.
