I use red heart super saver for lots of blankets and hats. I have found that if you wash it and dry it with the dryer sheet that the finished project comes out very soft and squishy. They don’t feel rough at all, or stiff. I think red heart super saver get the bad rap, I know it doesn’t feel as soft as a lot of other yarn, but really and truly, it gets very soft if you wash it and dry it with the dryer sheet. Are bright, and will never fade. I have Afghan that I’ve made decades ago out of red heart yarn, and they still look good, just like new. In fact, I just bought a bunch of super savers stripes and solids to make boggy blankets. They will be soft and squishy, and the kids will love them.

I prefer a stripe or variegated yarn for grannies. Every square is different. Its a fun suprise. The Red Heart granny takes all the suprise out of it.

Continuing to pray for you and your family. Glad recovery is going well. I watched one of Ross’s videos about the granny square yarn. He made a Ross hat with his skein and it came out great. A no stress project.
Wonderful update! I reviewed the Granny Square yarn also. I like the color you got! I felt the same about the yarn. I decided to make a blanket out of what I had and like the results so far. I have shown it on my channel but I am still not done with it as of yet. It is not a granny square, just a normal one. The yarn makes decent hats also. Knit and crochet. What a great swap box! I love the swaps, they are so fun. It is like a mini Christmas or birthday when received. Great to know Maddie is doing good and I will keep praying for Flynn. I bet you are happy about getting your craft area settled! I hate organizing but love the end result. Thanks for sharing all the things❣

I havent tried it yet, but other TH-camrs say the keys to using the granny square yarn from the instructions are to 1. Gauge Swatch to find your hook size 2. Start the Slipknot at exactly four inches and 3. Use the pattern for the granny square on the label. (Ex ch 3 in the corner)

Summer, you will love the ice cream cotton blend. It’s too bad that lion brand discontinued them, because the colors are wonderful. I bought a bunch up and still have a little bit of it. You are so lucky to have some.

I kinda wondered how hard it was gonna be to use that granny yarn. In my brain I pictured it akin to the pooling yarns but not quite as nerve racking lol. Nice swap and update. The banter between the kids sounds cute and funny.

I’ve crocheted 3 skeins worth of the Red Heart Granny all in one Square yarn 😅 and yes, I had to fiddle many rows…and a K hook (6.5) is the one for me that works. Many rows just work. I have a few more skeins but I am stopping now. I’m blocking them and want to make my daughter’s dog the cute Yarnspirations granny dog sweater and my granddaughter, the cute backpack. I plan to just knit with the rest of my skeins.

That granny square yarn makes beautiful Ross hats. They end up nicely striped.. I rea😢like your hair. My tension gets tighter the longer I work.

I really respect the time and energy it takes to rearrange things. Did it when I was younger. You went back to teaching already? And you look great in those colors today.
Ross knitted a hat with one of the Granny Square yarns and it turned out really nice. I've seen the crochet hooks with the silicone beads on them. I am very tempted to get some silicone beads and decorate some of my Susan Bates hooks.
That sounds cool! I think I would love to knit a hat with that yarn.

Hats are my favorite things to make! I donate mine to the homeless shelter. Just a suggestion if you have to any hats.
I also donate mine to the chemo center but they have to be super soft. Cancer patients have very sensitive heads.
I was making a lot of hat sets so I just boxed them up for next yr to send to Rose Bass @ Rose loves Crochet for her donation drives
I always have tension issues when I am in specific "moods". 😂
I am currently working The Lord's Prayer filet pattern.. *whew*
I have to really really be careful on tension.

As for the RH yarn... I dunno.. I am for sure not a fan of pattern yarns. They NEVER work out for me.
RH is okay, but I am currently trying to work through my "horde " so I can get new stuff that is what I want that is better quality.
Not to mention that my Walmart stores are SUPER slim pickins' as they cut WAAAAAAYYYY back on the amount they sell. 😮😢

I’m not huge on colour control, the even colour breaks to me don’t matter so much. It seems like everyone who has shown the granny square yarn are very frustrated with it and have to redo the squares multiple times to get the colours to come out right. If you were to just make one big continuous granny square blanket, where you just keep going with the colours as they come out, instead of making the small individual squares, would that work, or would the colour changes come out weird? Then it would come out as more of a random scrap type granny blanket.
The granny squares are not easy. I’ve made all of mine at least three times each and I had to go down to a 3.5 hook because of the way I hold my hook
Summer, do you start decreasing for a smaller hat at 4 1/2" instead of 6"? I just want to make sure before I do it. Thanks!

I have absolutely no interest in the super saver, granny. I made granny squares to relax, and they are something I can do without thinking. The new yarn is just too much work, and I am not willing to do the work. It’s just another gimmick.
