    Thanks For Making This Video! We just got our first golf cart and we possibly need to replace the brakes or adjust them like you did in this video. We Make some Videos ourselves and fully understand the amount of work it takes to make even a small video like this. This Was Very Helpful.

    I've always had to resort to taking the drum off to loosen the star. Didnt realize It could be spun backwards. Thank you for saving me a lot of time in the next few years!!!!

    Thanks, helped me out. My brakes were stuck on, once I figured out how to push/spin the adjustment wheel down, was all set.

    Thanks! I’m going to try this procedure on the cart I just purchased. The breaks don’t seem to work unless you press the pedal very hard.

      same, let me know how it goes so i can do the same please.!

      @@aftahourz I did this the other day and it improved my carts breaks tremendously. Careful not to tighten too much cause it’s not easy to loosen them up. The one I have has teeth going in the up direction but not in the down direction. I recommend doing just a little at a time and spin the rotor to see if it’s any harder to spin.

    Typically drum brakes on regular cars & trucks are adjusted automatically when applying the brakes in reverse. Is this not the case with golf cart drum brakes? I can see a situation where reverse is seldom used on carts as well.

      He may have replaced them and not adjusted them correctly. Check the adjustment as shown in the video.

    My 2001 EZGO breaks are grabbing and causing the cart to skid when I press them. Do you know where I should start?

    Tom you didn't really receive an answer to your question on which way to turn the star wheel adjuster to tighten the breaks. The best way to tell is have someone set in the cart and you look through the adjustment hole. Have the other person push down on the break peddle and you will see the auto adjuster arm move. You would move the star wheel the same way to move the pads outwards. It is hard to tell any other way due to some EZGO's having the star wheel on the bottom of the drum and others have it on the top. This and the side you are on can change the direction of rotation of the star adjustment wheel to tighten or loosen the break shoes.

    What should I look for in my particular issue. When I brake it isn't a smooth stop...it feels like it is bucking to a stop like brakes are going on/off on/off

    For the people that don’t know what a star wheel adjuster is you could have talked the drum off to show what the star looked like .. nice video any way

    I have a question...I've got a "clicking" noise coming from the driver's side rear, neighbor thinks it may be a broken spring. Cart is an '04 that I've owned for maybe 10 years and recently I've noticed the brakes don't work extremely well but it still stops. I'm not the most mechanical guy but I figure if I'm going in to replace a broken spring I might as well replace the pads too. Here's my "DUMB" question - when doing all this work (springs, pads, adjusting, etc.) do I do it with the parking break set, or breaks not set? Thanks!

      Hi, chalk the front wheels…. Do not put the parking brake on.

    In summary - to expand pads - increase drag move star "UP" on Right side, move star "DOWN" on left side - correct?

    • @tmiele135
      @tmiele135  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you will feel drag on when spinning it if your going the right way. Tighten it just enough to have a little drag with tire on.

    There is more to it than that. I can see doing that as a very basic DIY, but not from a professional stand point. Plus, you must have something wrong with the brakes if you can loosen them the same way. The self adjusting arm should be in the way so that you wont be able to loosen them.

    Hey I have a 1994 ezgo marathon and my question is the studs for the tires does the brake drum have splines for the studs so it won't move freely

    • @tmiele135
      @tmiele135  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I’m not sure I understand the question.

    I did this and now I have no brakes at all

    • @tmiele135
      @tmiele135  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like they are not adjusted properly. When you tighten the star adjuster you should feel drag on the drum when you spin it. If the drum is spinning freely you need to tighten the adjustment so there is drag with the tire on.

    skip to about 5:22 I would not want my brakes on a golf cart rubbing all the time. What a waste of energy and brake pad for a vehicle going 12-14 mph.
