If you're interested in a particular activity, you should feel free to mention it during the interview. You might get some follow up questions, but it doesn't mean you need to know them all. Does the university from which one is pursuing bachelor's degree matter? Can I make it to top B - schools with my bachelor in arts degree from an average university? And can you please tell that how can I make my profile suitable for MBA?
Undergraduate college name doesn't matter as much as academic scores. One of my batchmates was from a tier-2 college, he was in Top 20, is joining one of the best consulting firms and nailed the CAT exam too.
I like watching tech videos on youtube like unboxings, news in the tech field, etc. Can you suggest me as to how can I include this as my hobby as more or less it would just look like watching youtube videos?
It would look so because you're not going in depth. That's a passive activity. Maybe trying to do more than just watching may help, like learning about tech products, inventions, following updates, basically being a tech enthusiast!
Hi Shweta. Your videos have been very helpful to me as a SY BFM student. I write content for small companies and organizations ever since I was 17, and I have a few Coursera specializations in the same (SEO, how to write viral content, etc) which I did to earn a decent paid internship so I could collect fees for MBA. Do you think this counts as a good hobby/EC, especially since I want to pursue MBA in finance from IIM-A? once again, thank you for your super helpful videos and I look forward to your response
Hey Shweta! I'm new to this channel. I've watched some of your videos earlier and i find them very helpful in preparation of my CAT exam. After watching this video i could not figure out that... Is solving Rubik's cube(different kinds of cubes) and puzzles comes under special hobby?
Hi Sheetal, thank you, truly grateful :)) Yes, solving Rubik's cube is a hobby as long as you do it regularly and like knowing more about it. Many aspirants mention it during interviews.
Cooking is something that I do regularly, I enjoy it, I love making new recipies and want to feed it to everyone Can I progress with making this a hobby, but I am not getting how this hobby is relevant
I make memes, i even create content for one or two big pages. But i didn't mention it in my IPM Indore interview (which was a recorded video this year). I wanted to, but my family said that it might backfire by creating a wrong impression of mine, that they might think I'm indisciplined or something like that. I really wanted to mention it though.
It wouldn't have backfired had you been fully prepared to tackle the follow-up questions. One of my juniors at IIM-A had a Facebook page of memes which was quite famous, he got in too :)
@@Shweta-Arora i also told my family members the same thing. In fact it would have been a plus point because I'm doing something creative, but they didn't agree. Won't commit the same mistake again.

Hi Shweta, I'm into reading books but it's not an everyday activity but rather a weekend routine of mine. So, is it considerable enough to be listed as a hobby? Also, I do watch anime on a regular basis and I'd go in depth with them.
I love socializing and it's a stress Buster for me, is it a hobby if yes, than what kind of questions could interviewer ask about this? I love watching movies and series but I have heard they grill a lot on this hobby, how to prepare for questions on this hobby? Cooking. How could an interviewer ask about this hobby? I will like to start exercising as hobby, Could I add this as hobby if yes, what kind of questions interviewer could ask?
Socializing isn't a hobby. You don't go in-depth to learn more about it, right? It's a behavioral response. Cooking, fitness and binge watching are surely hobbies. The questions on any hobby are similar in nature: ¶ How did you get into pursuing it? ¶ Why do you like it? What do you like the most about it? ¶ What are your learnings from pursuing it? ¶ How far have you gone with it (won awards? created a community?) Some hobby specific questions can be found here - www.non-engineer.com/post/hobby-questions-iim-interviews
I know it might sound absurd but how do I know what to start afresh ? I mean observing oneself is a good way but what if that doesn’t help and we still aren’t clear on what to pursue ?
Can totally understand. There's a concept called Ikigai, I'm not sure if you've heard of it. Use it as a starting point, it can help. It says that one should pursue a mix of the following activities: 1. What you love 2. What you are good at 3. What the world needs 4. What you can be paid for. You know when I was preparing, I literally wrote down everything I did in a day (on an average day) on a piece of paper. Even if it's something you are going to start afresh, in most likely cases, it'll not be too far from your existing interests. It can be a little difficult to figure out initially, but reflect on your day in-depth, you'll surely find 2-3 activities at least that you take up during your free time.
Di , playing online game with friends, is this a hooby? I actually enjoy to play with my team and also like to make content from our gameplay. Should I continue or try something new. I also like to read different kind of detective story books.
Since last 12 years I'm enjoying cooking, and I cook delicious food anything after watching it somewhere and i generally experiment wd dishes alot. But the problem is, I do it daily on a fix timing not compulsory in free timing, i cook for me every day as my food (a student then WP, living away from Home for last 10 years).I had all options to choose maid, mesh, hostel, hotel, but i choosed cooking myself bcz i enjoy when i cook. I also cook when i'm at home in holidays. So the qs is that,is cooking my hobby or not???
Of course, it is! Without a doubt. You're pursuing it regularly enough for it to be called a hobby and I'm sure that if you get asked about it, you'll have a lot to share as well.
Excellent Video mam! 👌 Mam can you please if possible create a video or a blog post for profile building for final and summer placements?? It would help tremendously! Thank you!
Hi Shweta, i am a working professional in technology consulting domain and i like watching videos on international relations on a regular basis . There will be people in the interview from political science background with this as their course subject only. How can i develop and showcase this such that it can be categorised as hobby and not something around usual course subject.
If you have interest in IR, you read about it, it'll become evident during the interview discussion. Having opinions on the topics is what can help you distinguish yourself from a Pol Sc student.
Mam can I say that my hobby is Cycling and I have also lead a cycle rally of about 25 km on social awareness about 20-25 people.. but I don't have any proof to showcase it
You can definitely call cycling a hobby, hobbies don't necessarily require proof. Having said that, hobby is a regular activity, so if you cycle on a regular basis only then say it.
Can debating be a part of hobbies?? Like I have participated in many debate competition, one or two at state level also. But I have won only some of them at college levels.

Mam, I have a request for the next video can you make another video on coaching for MBA, when and if to join what kind of coaching should you look for since I have heard that this top MBA coaching don't care about all students they are only concerned about certain students that have good acads and are and most probably going to do well in cat. So should we go to such top brands like time, ims, career launcher etc as average student since investing 30-40k for coaching is a big amount
Sure, I'll address your question in the next video. To answer in short, it's not the case. The coaching faculty members are not even aware of the colleges the students are from, let alone the academic scores.
@@Shweta-Arora I don't know either mam I have seen alot people on quora answer on question about coaching tell this that alot of top brands are more concerned with the success of their top cream of students. Mam... I am learing french language on a daily basis and am quite enjoying it... Can i call it as my hobby ... And what should i do in this direction so that i can becomes a valuable asset to my batch...
Learning new languages can be a hobby but if it's one language then it cannot be pursued beyond a certain point. So, in that case, it won't be a hobby, an activity you pursued to strengthen your profile.
@@parthrajagopalan5302 Some of my friends had their Insta handles before joining. They regularly shared their performances there and tracked the social media metrics. That can be one way. Having said that, I truly believe relevance is not mandatory. Some people don't feel comfortable showcasing their work on social media and it's totally fine.
Singing can surely be said as a hobby in an interview. The interviewers can ask you to sing but if you're not comfortable, it's perfectly okay to politely refuse. In the past, students have been asked to showcase their hobbies during the interviews but not at the cost of the discomfort of the candidates.

@@Shweta-Arora Thanks for taking my ques..:) I can add depth to it but not really know about how can it be value additive for others? Can you please help with this perspective?
It's difficult. One way to think of it is to create a community around your hobby. Create an awareness blog/page. Share knowledge about this topic, educate others. That way you can bring value to the batch by sharing your community building skills, social media analytics skills, etc.
Sure! Pandemonium, Ogilvy on Advertising are two of my favourite books. You can also go through this list for some blogs - www.non-engineer.com/post/marketing-blogs-mba-2020
you can tell the interviewers that you love to read about minimalism, productivity and organisations and just talk about these...anything that you can talk about basically can be your hobby.
Mam can I am thinking to start an fitness space on qoura ,I know pretty much everything about body thermomechanics and science behind dieting and all that technical stuff also I have lost 40 kg myself would that add value to interview?
I too like to learn fitness related topics but the problem is how to mention it in cv or like what is the perfect word to metion it Like should I just write fintess under the hobby section?
Not really, whatever skill/activity you're freelancing for, if that activity is pursued regularly by you, then it can be a hobby. Freelancing is a means to earn and learn, not a hobby.

Having one or two hobbies will suffice! Just hone them further, they're quite unique ❤️
Playing guitar can be a hobby ? Or art journalling ? And will it make a good impression on the interviewers .. please reply Shweta mam ?!!
I like gardening can I put it as a hobby
Hi Sheetal, thank you, truly grateful :))
Yes, solving Rubik's cube is a hobby as long as you do it regularly and like knowing more about it. Many aspirants mention it during interviews.
Cooking is something that I do regularly, I enjoy it, I love making new recipies and want to feed it to everyone
Can I progress with making this a hobby, but I am not getting how this hobby is relevant
@@akshatsaxena2817 It's understandable from their point of view. Trying out something unique is in itself an edge. But, you need to know how to defend yourself gracefully. You'll be able to it, trust yourself :)
Hi Shweta, I'm into reading books but it's not an everyday activity but rather a weekend routine of mine. So, is it considerable enough to be listed as a hobby?
Also, I do watch anime on a regular basis and I'd go in depth with them.
Is animation a hobby or making a TH-cam videos regularly a hobby???????
Yep, it is.
The questions on any hobby are similar in nature:
¶ How did you get into pursuing it?
¶ Why do you like it? What do you like the most about it?
¶ What are your learnings from pursuing it?
¶ How far have you gone with it (won awards? created a community?)

Non-Engineers cool! I’ll check that out, Thankyou so so much 💕

So the qs is that,is cooking my hobby or not???
Of course, it is! Without a doubt. You're pursuing it regularly enough for it to be called a hobby and I'm sure that if you get asked about it, you'll have a lot to share as well.

Can I write "House construction" as my hobby
Hi Shweta, i am a working professional in technology consulting domain and i like watching videos on international relations on a regular basis . There will be people in the interview from political science background with this as their course subject only. How can i develop and showcase this such that it can be categorised as hobby and not something around usual course subject.
If you have interest in IR, you read about it, it'll become evident during the interview discussion. Having opinions on the topics is what can help you distinguish yourself from a Pol Sc student.
Can we say gym or working out/calisthenics is our hobby?
Or like i write poetry but they're highly non regular?
A hobby should be regular. Fitness training/going to a gym can be a hobby.

And that less attention was paid to them so they had to go to for another coaching where more attention were given to them
@@safashaikh2894 I neither experienced something like that, nor heard anyone say that in my circle. Having studied from one such institute, I can share my experience - it ultimately boils down to your own efforts. The faculty tries its best to explain the concepts to all the students alike.

Mam... I am learing french language on a daily basis and am quite enjoying it... Can i call it as my hobby ... And what should i do in this direction so that i can becomes a valuable asset to my batch...

Didi..can singing be a hobby or does it have to be something serious.will they ask me to sing during the interview?
Singing can surely be said as a hobby in an interview. The interviewers can ask you to sing but if you're not comfortable, it's perfectly okay to politely refuse. In the past, students have been asked to showcase their hobbies during the interviews but not at the cost of the discomfort of the candidates.
