It also put into perspective Vegetas' influence as kid trunks father, and how vegeta accepted him and trained with him. Unlike what future trunks experienced with vegeta in the time chamber.
It’s under-appreciated how well Bulma and Chi-Chi pair up together, and to an extent compensate for each other’s shortcomings. Bulma is shrewd and assertive but can’t back it up with her hands while Chi-Chi is naive and demure (except w family lmao) but she can kick ass.

Hopefully since they're being taken to Beerus world in the next arc maybe they'll be put in the spotlight for a minute. A true shame that they had crazy potential as kids and never been formally trained outside the buu arc
Them young boys was boxinggg for sure, it made me so excited for goku and vegetas match in the tournament but me being older is realizing they gave us that fight because they were never going to fight in the tournament 😂

This whole section of the arc is one of my favorite parts of the whole series. There's so much mystery and suspense with the new characters that pop up here and so many twists and turns.

I remember watching DBZ on Toonami religiously and we were on like the beginning of the namek saga when one day at the mall with my family I walked in a suncoast video store and saw the first 4 episodes (including this one) of the Buu saga on VHS. My little mind was struggling to compute cause I thought the toonami scheduling was current. I begged my mom to buy it watched em over and over not knowing who tf Shin Kai, Hercule, Videl etc etc were lol.

Goten vs Trunks feels like a breath of fresh air, a legit deep breath in between fights that had world-shaking stakes.
Sometimes you need that breath to not end up bogged down and tired out by escalating stakes. On top of the fact that it's actually rare in Z to see the hero team throw hands vs each other in anything other than a cutaway spar. It's honestly why I'm really bummed we never got to revisit the gang in a Budokai bracket again after things get interrupted, both in this tournament and the next, or at all in Z (and so far in Super as well) outside of some scenes in the Bojack movie.

Ik this is a bit but would we have to take into consideration that the announcer has definitely seen the kamehameha before, and would then know that if he sees someone charging one, he would have time to react? Its not like he only saw the beam and reacted to that, he probably saw it coming the moment goten got his hands into firing position

Gotta give props to Goten because keep in mind that his martial arts training mostly came from his retired from the fighting life mother Chi-Chi. From there, Gohan had what several weeks/couple of months to train with his little bro for the World Tournament with ki control but mostly combat that allowed Goten to go all-out. Although you can't forget that Videl being around for a...I don't know a week or two learning how to fly slowed down their training a bit and it was only after she'd leave at the end of the day could these two train seriously.
Compare that to Trunks who trained with his dad in the gravity chamber to prep for the tournament.
Yet, Goten was still able to keep up with Trunks and even get the better of him a few times during this fight!
Darn shame how wasted these two are especially in Super! Yes, GT didn't do too much with their characters. However, Super only sits them on the bench or even when they get involved in a battle it is nothing more than an excuse to have Fat Gotenks appear and be used as a gag character...
The sad part is that if Mr. Satan was a real person and slipped up or did some embarrassing while trying to look cool; we'd all be wondering if it was a legit screw up OR done in order to get himself trending online as the next meme or viral TikTok reel with people imitating him 😂
Bulma knew what she could get way with trolling like that with Chichi around to knock anyone around in that stadium to next Saturday after a full month.😂

The absolute scrapping between Trunks and Goten is definitely a highlight of the Buu saga.

One of the underlying facts about Trunks and Goten was that their fight is a glimpse of what we would see if Goku and Vegeta were more like friends than rivals. Trunks and Goten both embody the signature qualities about their respective fathers - Goten with Goku's friendliness and Trunks with Vegeta's perseverance. And even as they were fighting, it was never any malice in their minds, but just having fun.

When you really think about it, Vegeta has gotten more dubs on Goku then he realizes. Vegeta’s Inferiority Superiority Complex prevents him from seeing that.

The Goku and Vegeta fight later on is the perfect pairing to this fight. As certain elements are direct one to ones of each other. One a fight between rivals who are friends and hold no animosity. The other battle fought to gain a false sense of dominance and is full of animosity. They even end similarly.

As I'm watching this, I just realized that it's crazy that Goten was that strong given his background. I mean, Trunks makes sense, he's the son of Vegeta, a fight addiction. Goku is also a fight addict, but Goku is DEAD. And Gohan is not fighting, we can see how surprised he was when he saw Goten's strength.
So it's crazy that Goten would be THIS strong. Maybe if he was training with Trunks, but it doesn't looks they are sparring this much, as opposed to Goku and Krillin. And if it was from Chi-Chi, it would mean that Chi-Chi would be AS STRONG AS TRUNKS to make such a machine.
Chi-Chi also had proper training in martial arts. So she probably gave some foundations to Goten as a fighter. I wish her relationship with Goten had been explored more because it seems she was more open to him fighting than Gohan when he was his brother's age.
I love how these turned into childhood episodes like, tune in next week to see our favorite "heros" make an absolute mess of shit as usual on dbz.

Then goten can learn from krillin, tien, and yamcha so he gets all these old school techniques from dragonball bc hes a reference to og goku

From the start of the Tournament of Power until the end of the Granolah arc, we were almost exclusively shown Trunks and Goten spending time at 17’s wildlife sanctuary. I’d call BS to suggest that they stayed put on that island, even during the periods they were supposed to be guarding it. There’s a decent timespan of 1-2 years of practically empty space that could definitely be filled with a 1-3 volume spin off manga, with specific detail on what they did during the ToP and Moro sagas (when they were definitely meant to be minding the island for 17)
