So great you're checking out Big L. He was much more than a freestyler. His lyrics and hip-hop set the foundation of hip-hop today. Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous was an incredible album. He later formed his own label Flamboyant Entertainment...he was apparently shot by someone he knew that had a beef with Big L's brother. He was shot to 'hurt' Big L's brother. Many people don't know how important Big L was in hip-hop history. Peace ☮️
bruh i known this since heart since I copped "the big picture" in 99. so many classics. "casualties of a dice game" is one of the best stories ever told
People seem to always misunderstand what “freestyling” actually is. People like to SAY that freestyling is just making everything up on the spot, but that is not what it actually means and it never has been. Freestyling is rapping something that you’ve written over a beat you’ve never heard before. Anybody who’s ever rapped knows that switching a beat can DRASTICALLY affect your flow and can be very difficult. Especially if you’ve never heard the beat.
he wasnt shot by hate or actually anything related to him. his brother big lee that he mentions alot in his lyrics had a drug deal beef with some guys from there hood who was a very violent person actually was big l friend they thought big l was his brother big lee they looked alike and shot big l for no reason 17 years later his accused killer gerald woodley was shot and killed on the same block. just fyi... loved your video and reaction he has so many hard tracks bro.
Big L is another legend. So uniquely lyrical, much like Biggie or Pun. As far the best freestyler... it's hard to give that title just because you hear the same rhyme schemes in his songs, just arranged a little differently. Still a legend! "Dice Game" and "The Heist" are such good visual stories, you should react to one of those, if you haven't already... I'm still going through all your videos as a new subber.
Definition of freestyle got twisted at some point. What y’all call a “freestyle” rhyme l used to be called am “off the head” rhyme. Original meaning of freestyle was spitting random rhymes (instead of structured songs with hooks) and being able to spit then over random beats (or no beat at all). The definition started to get twisted in the mood 90s but emcees like Masta Ace, Big Daddy Kane, LL, Big L, Lord Finesse, RZA, and DMX (all of them capable of spitting off the heads) have talked about the original, true definition of freestyle. This Big L session on Stretch And Bobbito’s show was a pre written freestyle. And to your question, Supernatural is the GOAT of off the head rhymes
If you wanna hear a real freestyle listen to, King Los- sway in the morning freestyle.. ha way was throwing him random words and king los was just going crazy.. it was like 10 mins, check it out you will not regret it
@@LILJ_303 hell ya man his stuff never gets old even if he doesn’t have a ton of music because of how Young he died. Man was still able to make himself a legendary rapper and super influential rapper in such a short time which is super impressive.
his writings were so clever. he was definitely ahead of his time and was definitely slept on at the time

"L is that n**** you expect to catch rec, on any casette deck. I'm so ahead of my time, my parents haven't met yet" - Big L

Great reaction Bro!!!!
Thank you bro appreciate it 🙏🏽
Back when street niggas actually could spit…RIP BIG L🤘🏽
It was a written verse. Back then battle verses that never made it to albums are what almost every rapper was using as radio "freestyles".

he does repeat some rhymes from his other work in his freestyles, but there's also the parts that aren't hehe
Ayo what's that Harry Mack vid where he talking about Big L?

hardest mc ever
Its not 98 bars. Its from 1998
A freestyle means on any topic off the dome means just that off the head
Why do i feel this version is abit slowed down?

No next to harry Mac. Harry Mac makes shit up on the spot, sure, but it never makes sense.
dude I love this verse more than just about any other. But it's not a freestyle; not a fair comparison L and Harry...
Big L one of the absolute best to ever do it, shame he only made it to 24. Still a legend tho
RIP Big L I listen to his music everyday now.
