    🎥 E- Guide 🎥
Let's talk about scams in Colombia. In this video, I'm going to focus on the scams that I heard and people experienced the most.
The scams also can be varied from city to city. Take Cartagena for instance, it is surely a city that is notorious for scams compared to other Colombian cities. The strategies may be different but at the end of the day, they're all scams.
Let's take a look into the scams we heard about from friends or that actually happened to us.
    Gringo Prices
Yes, it exists even though there are people denying it. Gringo prices is a thing that doesn't only concern foreigners in Colombia but pretty much in all Latin America depending on where you are it happens more often.
Gringo Pricing is when someone charges you more because you are a foreigner. That usually only happens when you buy stuff on the streets. It doesn't happen in a regular grocery store but everywhere you don't have fixed prices could have the potential.
The granny is sick, the pet needs surgery, the phone is about to die
That mostly happens to single men that are dating here. The date asks you for money pretty much at the beginning, maybe after the first date, maybe even before it.
Usually, they make it seem urgent and make you feel responsible for whatever they pretend to need money for.
Most things come down to common sense if you have met a girl the first time, and she asks you to pay a $2000 hospital bill for her grandmother. She most probably is a scam.
    Taxi takes a longer route
It can happen that especially when you don't know the right way to the destination you're heading to, that a taxi driver might take advantage of your cluelessness. He may make some unnecessary turns, take a street that takes longer or just drives in circles in order to get more money,
I just mentioned 3 examples of the scams that might occur to you in Colombia, if you want to know the rest of it I suggest to watch the whole video.
Don't hesitate to contact us with any Expat questions you might have. No matter if you've got questions about Medellin, Bogota, Santa Marta or Colombia in general. We would love to support you on your journey.

I spent my life traveling all over the world and had never seen the 'Broken Souvenir' Scam. ... Near Cartagena at the top of a hill, there is a famous church that people want to go to. Outside are Souvenir sellers and have beautiful Souvenirs to buy. So, you buy one or two and they offer to wrap the piece at no charge. ... What they do is move the item off the table to a wrapping area, just behind the main table and wrap up a broken souvenir that looks just like the one you just bought, and you will not find out until you are back home unwrapping your Souvenirs.

Usually, I'd say you MUST have friends that are local and work with your friends to find good values. I travel with two dogs sometimes, so my local friends get me a condo to rent in a day's time, because they are well connected. I know the going rates off season, so I tell them what I want and what I am willing to pay - I do NOT expect to pay any more for having two dogs with me, but I'd likely find better places without the dogs, too.

I am considering relocating to Colombia and have a few questions. 1) What city is the most industrious? I work in high-tech industry. I have my own small company. I would iike to live in the city with the most high-tech. What are the best cities for that? Also, can you make a video on the subject? I would like to see some examples of business office real-estate in area with high-tech.

    • @zerocal76
      @zerocal76 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Medellin and Bogota are the most high-tech and have the best workforces (if you are ever in need of that). Medellin is safer overall though and much better weather. For business office examples, find a rental agency (any) and ask for referrals. You won't find specific stuff like that on TH-cam; Colombia isn't close to being popular enough internationally to get a lot of really detailed info easily.

It depends a bit on the season, because during high season everywhere is getting bookings, but in the slower season they will negotiate so keep revenue coming in - make them an offer or widen your area of search. Moreover, tourist centers can get filled up, but nearby on the fringes you'll always get better deals - you just have to ask.
