In 2005, as a very young and very sheltered man having recently joined the US Army, I was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and immediately found myself a far-right, fundamentalist Baptist church similar to the one in which I was raised. One of the Sunday morning pamphlets was a refutation of this song. I specifically remember the author having a serious problem with the line about ‘painted-on’ blue jeans. The rest of it was a screed against women being independent of men (in so many words) and against women dressing the way they want to dress. I had never heard the song, but eventually did and I loved it. Looking back, I realize how insane that screed was and how great a song this is. That was one of many things that helped me get out of that crazy fundamentalist mindset.

Going through alot and this song really picks my spirits up. Because I feel like my life is so complicated and it is never going to go according to God's plan. I have suffered some great loss. But God has been good. So when I hear this song it makes me think everything is right around the bend in the road and God knows. Because I am a bit complicated. as time goes on, i look back on this era of country music in a way more nostalgic light. i was 11 when this song came out and songs that came out around the same time as this one have impacted me more than i thought they would. i know that they don’t have much lyrical content and they just rehash the same ideas but when i hear it i think of a more innocent time in my life. it’s pretty weird tbh.

Lol I was 20 when this came out. Some life changing stuff (mostly bad) happened to me in this time and this music helped me.
Here's the thing, a lot of songs from the bro country era that were at the top of charts, like this, or Billy Currington or Luke Bryan's stuff, were pretty fun tunes. The issue was more so the copycats, who didn't have the musical chops to back up the lack of meaningful lyrics. And there were a LOT of copycats, thus why it's not looking back on fondly.

I'm just getting into country music. The stereotypes of it here in the UK are so false. Country has come a long way and it has revolutionised for the better. Anyway, this song is quality.
Adaam Bream there are a lot of stereotypes of country music across the world but fortunately artists like Brad Paisley, Dierks Bentley, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Gary Allan, Maddie & Tae and David Nail have shown the world that country music is amazing. it's the soundtrack of our lives and it speaks true to our hearts. Why can't people just accept that music changes as the years pass by. Sure artists such as garth brooks, johnny cash, aaron watson and hundreds of others have made their mark in the country industry. But new music is what drives in the new and younger crowd. It's still country, maybe not to the liking of some. But it's still country, you will never change that no matter what your opinion is on the new generation of music.
