He doesn’t speak, he doesn’t narrate, and yet it’s one of the best channels on TH-cam. I don’t just give praise like this but the ingenuity, skill, imagination, creativity and craftsmanship is comprehensive and bewildering. Can’t believe there aren’t more subscribers but I’m glad I found this channel. Keep up the great work, Russ.
The man has many talents and everything he takes on is done in a superb fashion. Always a good watch, if only to see what new skill he has which you didn't know about!
my heart always soars when i get a new video notification you are by far the best youtuber no irritating music no unnecessary talking just gripping videos of you tackling any task and doing it to perfection 👍
Maybe you should check out 'Escape to rural France'. One man rebuilding a French chateau. A little more talking, but more or less the same calmness and Zen-like qualities
It’s a real pleasure watching a genuine craftsman at work, not to mention one who does so without musak blasting away. I’ve been learning a lot from your series, thanks for posting it!
As a little girl, my dad never shooed me away while he worked in the garden, on a car, or in the shop. He even taught me to sew. I have wonderful memories of handing him tools and learning their uses. He was a man of few words, but he showed me I could do anything with time, knowledge, persistence and the right tool😊
My Dad did the same thing with me. It takes an amazing, kind, thoughtful man to let a little girl learn about all kinds of things! Keep preparing her for her future and enjoy how she is right now. And definitely keep up the great work!
Another one here! I spent many a happy hour with my dad, in the garden, watching him decorate, he did his own photography too and I loved helping him develop his old black and white photos! (showing my age there!) 😅
Russ, it's gorgeous. I love the fence and I do love how private it is. Tiffany was so cute and funny. Her little fingers waving into the camera was priceless. I know that it's easier to do without them but the memories of "I helped daddy" will last forever. Warms my heart. Thanks for sharing, Russ. I look forward to part 3.
I can't express how much I enjoy these videos. This is like the oddly satisfying aspect of Primitive Technology's videos, but with the pleasure of seeing something be absolutely transformed by excellent craftmanship. You're absolutely spoiling us with this much content in one video. 40 minutes despite having the video be straight to the point and cutting out monotonous bits. I applaud both your handiwork and your ability to capture and present it in a way that makes it very satisfying and entertaining to watch!
The thin, horizontal, rounded-over slats with the breathable privacy weed barrier looks so sophisticated compared to most vertical plank 1x6 fences! Your technical and problem-solving abilities are always so well complemented by your aesthetic creativity and design choices.
You sir are an absolute joy to watch create some of the most aesthetically pleasing creations of beauty, your attention to details your planning and carrying out of the finest work is an utter joy to watch, one of the best TH-cam channels on here. Thanking you for such a great joy everytime one of your episodes drops can’t wait til the next one
As a fencer, I really love the slabs as gravel boards, looks really nice. Brick work and fencing also go together really nicely. Great job thanks for sharing. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The multi-skill sets are surreal. Literally beyond my comprehension. All I know is that if was blessed with them, I would spend my waking hours making beauty out of ruins. I suppose there are a few people around with the manual skills, but Russ's imagination on top of that must make him a genuine one in a million. I could watch his mesmerising videos on a loop....
I honestly i feel like most people could do 80% of this stuff by just dedicating some time researching before attempting these kinds of projects. Just takes an individual who's willing to learn and make mistakes in the process
As so many others have said, I know it is going to be a good day when I wake up to a fresh New Yorkshire Workshop video. Thanks, Russ! Beautiful job, as always.
Been watching this genius for a while now and I think I’m starting to get on a par with him. Yeah I use the same tape measure as he does and spirit level , I’m sure mine are a bit out though , and remember the time he said he made his wife cry , well I tiled our kitchen floor last year and the wife still cries about that every now and then. 😂😂😂. Great job again Russ cannot wait for the next one .
You’re my favourite thing about TH-cam. Your videos are just brilliant. I’d obviously love it if you did more but when one does drop like today it brings so much joy. Thank you.
There’s lots of content from America on youtube but I love watching your videos because you’re UK-based, and we have different materials and terminology. Great job! 👏 👏 👏
Charlie DIYte is another UK based TH-camr I watch. I like how he explains things and what went wrong on his projects. It's a different style of projects and video. He's quite good while this channel is near perfection. I enjoy both.
OUTSTANDING AS USUAL!! 🤩 I've just read so many messages below that say exactly what I was going to say... So let me simply say HOLY SMOKES! Your skill, craftsmanship, and attention to detail is mind blowing! 🤯 I ADORE how patient you are whether it's meticulously chipping away at reclaimed bricks or taking some time to teach Tiffany about watering concrete mix. Thank you so so much for uploading your videos. I look forward to each and every one of them! Blessings from Washington State! 💛🖤💛 Stacy
Absolutely amazing! Is there anything that you can’t do? Thank Goodness you don’t have to worry about strangers asking you to autograph random body parts anymore! This is going to be such a lovely and peaceful and private area for your whole family to enjoy. I can’t wait to see what happens next😊
I would recommend to put some caps on those fence posts so that they last longer like stainless, plastic, glass or ceramic. It keeps the water away from the end grain and reduces rot.
Heat the wood a bit and apply a thick coating of pine pitch. There's also a farmers trick, you drill a hole in the post angled towards the ground and fill it with oil, plug it and refill the hole until the post is saturated.
I love that you work, and don't jibber jabber the whole time, and then come in with written instructions and comments. ALL You-Tubers should learn this technique.❤😂
Why did you set your gate post in with Postcrete? It is a very common mistake because it is quick and easy. But you are setting a lump of wood to sit in a concrete bucket that will always be wet between the post which will shrink and the concrete. It is far better to ram around the post with broken brick , and you have plenty of that, or broken tile. Ramming it around the post a bit at a time supports the post very securely and moisture can drain away from the wood. The post may be pressure treated but that breaks down when subjected to constant moisture. Using up old rubble around fence posts is also cheaper than using bags of cement mix. It is a great video!
You! My dear man are a wonderful craftsman I’ve not seen this quality of workmanship in a long time! People just don’t do quality work any more! Absolutely a wonderful job!❤
Your garden is really coming together, Russ. You blew my mind at the trick of the spacer and prybar combo to set your gate - what a technique! I can't help but wonder how your neighbors are reacting, or if it's even an issue? The amazing thing, I think, is that apparently in Britain they have 4x2 lumber, while here in the US it's 2x4... I'd get so confused trying to remember to turn the board... /s
Thank you. always enjoyed working with old bricks. I have one Hampshire Red sliced down and framed as wall art. It has Weasel paw marks embedded in it from green. Fired and 170 years later is admired. The brick was made from our own clay too. Hope your family enjoy the lovely space you are creating. Best wishes from an oldie.
What a treat on a Saturday. As a carpenter who takes pride in my work I love watching you create excellence. It inspires me to improve. I was lucky to have a great apprenticeship back in the 80's. Our skills should be passed on. Great stuff Russ. 👍
I could watch your videos all day. I'm renovating an old property in france and learning so much off you. You're an inspiration, and your work is fantastic. I can't wait till the next instalment 👍🏻👍🏻
Fantastic time when there's a new video from you Russ, you're a truly skilled man. I'd been looking forward to this next part. Wonderful to see your little supervisor pop in to keep an eye on dad
I'm just like you. I love doing jobs and try to excel at them all. From fine polishing to concrete and digging, I love the range. I admire your breadth of skills and really look forward to your videos. I'll probably be a patron soon. Thanks for your time; it's appreciated.
Wow! Your fence and gate are absolutely gorgeous! It is such a pleasure to watch such a skilled artist at work. Brilliant. I very much enjoy your style of video making. Thank you.
It’s always a pleasure watching you work. It’s amazing that you do no talking just add a few footnotes as you see fit. It must take significant time for this feature to. Keep up the good work
I graciously accept the 10 points for knowing what the arch in the wall was. Well I should do, or that 4 year apprenticeship was wasted !! Quality work as always Sir. Thanks for letting us play along.
I had no idea what the Arch was for. Mind you, I’m from New Zealand and we use very little brickwork (Earthquakes) and very few people have experience with it.
Absolutely astonishing! The landscape fabric behind the slats is genius. Everything is absolutely professional and perfect looking, and I love that you used as much of that lovely old handmade brick as possible. It is really the best of both worlds - very neat and crisp and modern, but with a sense of age as well.
Absolutely superb design and craftsmanship! Even the slats line up across the gate to either side of the fence. The black weed cloth is a creative solution for both privacy and good aesthetic. I certainly trust that the water feature will completely cover the blue plastic liner? Such a smart looking enclosed garden. Can't wait to see the next phase. ❤ Thank you ✨️ ❤
Love the re-use of the old brick. It has so much character and fits in nicely with the old walls. And your fence is brilliant. Well done! Can't wait to see the finished space.

Outstanding work as usual
I've never get tired of hearing any child calling "daddy daddy daddy" in that joyful voice. Kids only do that when they have a dad who loves them.

And, no politics!
You need to binge-watch all the older stuff. Pure gold going back years! 👍😆
He has a great sense of humour👍🏽
Thanks for not changing your video style . Always enjoyed your sense of humour. Good work mate.
Shout out to the one woodlouse heroically holding that fence up on its own. Your service will not go unnoticed brave sir/madam.

I've watched both videos. Coming from a family of stone and brick masons, may I say, your recovery and use of old brick is a wonderful thing.
