UptempoMusicLessons It's one thing to be bad at guitar and still be passionate about it. It's one thing to learn guitar just to impress people and actually put in the effort to learn it well. It's another thing when you have no passion, no talent, and don't even attempt to legitimately get good at guitar. People who aren't willing to learn to play guitar well shouldn't be playing guitar. If you're too lazy to actually get good at anything to the point that you have to learn tricks to make you look like you can actually play, then that's pathetic. All they're doing is diminishing the hard work and dedication real musicians put into our craft.
Metal Marauder If someone learns a few tricks that is just fine, a true connoisseur of music and musicianship cannot be fooled by a few tricks, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The goal of the video was to get people here and then once I got them, to teach them some necessary techniques that will help further their abilities. Tricks, techniques, the words are synonymous among guitarists.
Metal Marauder When I first learned to play guitar. My instructor asked what my goal was. He said that bottom line he could categorize students as those that are truly interested in music as an art and those that just wanted to impress the girls and get laid. Also unless you are playing classical guitar the majority of the genres are not about technic or vituosity. I've played really difficult complex songs and had people in the audience ask if I was finished warming up. Yet when if I played more simpler but added a little flourish and showmanship they would just be in awe of my god-like abilities (sarcasm).
Thanks for these lessons. Your opening solo just blows me away. It's worthy of a separate video all on it's own. I'm sure everyone would love to see a breakdown of that one, I know I would.
Thanks Susanna. Ya, I like to do a little bit of playing to show people some of the techniques in an actually playing scenario then get right to it. Thanks for watching and please sub for more. :)
Hey, I tried to do those tricks yesterday and every girl in my school started to harass me in order to have sex with me. My girlfriend consequently got so jealous that we had to break up. Thanks anyways.
Fucking no idea! Step 1 - play with teeth Step 2 - place guitar over head Step 3 - play guitar upside down Step 4 - if else fails, burn with ZIPPO lighter fluid.
You're a good teacher. You do a good job of breaking down the component parts, slowing them down and demonstrating them with clarity. As a beginning student, I thank you.
+Mark Thuaux Well, you got something right! I'm glad you agree with my assessment of you. This shows you understand you have room for personal growth. It's a step in the right direction!
Your comment is useless... That is like tossing someone a scalpel and saying they are a surgeon... Two best secrets to playing guitar, assuming the passion, commitment are there to start with: 1: A metronome, they are invaluable. When you buy a guitar, you should buy a tuner and metronome too. Timing is half the battle, 2: Patient, perfect, slow practice that increases the timing as you master the skill you are attempting to learn. Practice doesn't make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect. The goal isn't being to do it right, the goal is to do it until you can't do it wrong
I get what you're saying & agree. I just think that the first thing you should do if you're not able to play is get the best teacher you can afford. It has so many advantages like motivating you to practice properly, someone to ask your questions, learning to read and get your ear training happening, technical problems solved or at least, working on the list for getting a teacher is enless & in my opinion the first thing one should do if it's affordable. It's certainly helped me. ......earn a living lol.
I've played guitar in different styles for 51 years but I've never properly got the hang of tapping. Every vid I've seen has dismissed it as being easy and not shown how to do it properly. This guy does a good job.
@@AB-fe1fm 51 years... Im pretty sure you couldve searched a lt of vids in that lifetime, some more helpfuk than this. Wann defend the guy then defend the guy openly
What's funny is that these aren't "tricks to be amazing at guitar"... they are real skills to practice, that when mastered.... would result in you improving your guitar skills. Not tricks... practice and skill. But the title of the video is what is getting the hits, not the content. The content is good, and the guy does a good job, but these titles are what draws people's attention because it feeds on people's desire to take shortcuts to achieve things. The secret is that there are no shortcuts, lol. Nice video, though. : ) And nice job on the teaching aspect. "like" from me.

No, but it does work on a synth. Also, make sure you mic the synth properly. I've found that an sm81 on the left output and a 421 on the right works great. There's very very low volume, but you can hear various clunking sounds along with other things going on in the room. You'll love it!
I been playin' 50 years and my take is any time I can learn even 1 little something in 15 minutes it was time well spent. Learned more than one here. You'll never make music if yer heart ain't pure . . . Noise? Maybe. Music? Never.
MyworstEnemy I used to do that when I was a teenager and then someone who was insanely good would play over me and I would put my guitar back and leave depressed. Lol.
***** Yeah I only was capable of giving up for the day and then always came back to it wanting to be like or better than the person that depressed me. =)
Awesome, glad you are getting into it! Best of luck and when you are ready, check out this other vid along the same lines. th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html
That's pretty cool! I grew up in the 80's, and I'm 43. I JUST decided that I am finally going to take the time to learn something that I have always wanted to do. At least become familiar enough with a guitar... I'm not looking tone a rock star, but I genuinely want to learn so that I can just sit back with a big fat amp, and piss off my neighbors. But, with a little class!
I really enjoyed it! I have been playing for years, mostly just enough to support my vocals and writing. I do use a lot of harmonics when I play. This lesson was great, and it will really help me as a player. Thank you! You ROCK!
+Bruce Martin Lager Thanks for the kind words and for watching, and please check out my latest vid along the same lines. th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html
Trick No.1: Learn to... Oh wait looks like about 100 people already made that joke. If you don't like it then don't bother watching it like seriously it's just a few tricks. Ive played guitar for 12 years and already knew all 5 but that still didn't stop me watching in case I could pick up a little extra technique. These might not make you amazing at guitar but they still have their place in the sense they help new musicians gain a little confidence doing something simple that sounds pretty good unlike the relentless banging off of Em, G and C roughly to Green Day
4th time watching this video, i like to watch it just because it reminds me of how i started. I wouldn't be playing right now if it wasn't for this. Thanks to you, i can now play the second half to Eruption by Van Halen. Working on the first part now. I sincerely thank you for helping me get to where i am now.
+DatCosmoDoe I felt the same way. lol I'm even feeling like messing with my guitar after having it away for a little bit over a year... I don't know how I ended up here. And I actually didn't know the last trick. hahaha
+DatCosmoDoe Thanks for the kind words and for watching and please check out this video I made along the same lines; th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html All the best!
+ALT3REDB3AST Dolts, that's why the snobbery. So many idiots on YT it is unfathomable but thank you for watching, I appreciate it. All the best! PS title is why it has almost 2 million views BTW.
Great camera angles .Love how you go from slow to fast and the tricks are very cool and simple .All this and NO Pretentious Attitude ! That's some good teaching . Thanks Peter
These are useful techniques to learn and master. Thanks for sharing them. Of course people need to practice, just add these techniques to your practice so you've got more tools in your toolbox.
I think a bonus trick would be palm muting. When I was first learning guitar, I thought palm muting (especially power chords) was the most awesome sound ever!
This was an awesome video. Thanks for sharing these tips. I particularly liked playing tones and power chords. I'm really looking forward to mastering these myself.
#2 Fingerpicking I just remember when I am 10 y.o and practiced this style in a classical music school!! 1---- Freight Train 2---- Dust in the wind (Kansas) I think this stuff is good for the beginner to learn a basic techniques, not to make people think you are amazing, cause this is too fundamental.... just saying~ ps : sorry for my bad english :)
you know it's funny how many experts out there always make negative comments, yet as of 6-22-2015, 280,708 people watched this. i find that ironic. anything you learn and can apply is a positive. great songs aren't always written by people with degree's in music theory.
teriakamoto It's not funny. It's how art works. There ARE no experts. Take the critique with a grain of salt, that's what ya gotta do. Everybody knows what they knows, and does what they does. If there was a right way to do it, we'd have heard about it by now. If it sounds good, it is good.
funny is in the eyes of the insane. actually there are experts, and and and and there is a right way of doing anything and everything. like i said, you don't have to be a genius. far out man. excellent.
To me making people think you're awesome on guitar is actually playing songs. This reminds me of guys from high school who wanted to make people think they were cool because of a riff they could play. Serious musicians don't try to make people think they're awesome, they prefer to actually playing songs and playing them well, not go on an ego trip.
Never stop practicing first! Second, memorize the fretboard. Even without any theory or knowing scales, which definitely helps, knowing what a note is going to sound like before you play it is key.
Thanks for watching and please check out my other vid along the same lines: th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html&lc=z12yh5djyl3ru1qz404cgbfwflvzfdo4waw
Not necessarily. I'm probably what you'd call at an intermediate level but I use these all the time and people think I'm way better than I really am :)
then there is always trick # 6 if those 5 fail and that is after playing a song, you take your guitar and bash it against the furniture or floor and then spray it with gasoline and light it on fire, # 6 has worked so well for me, that it has gotten me laid several times.
I disagree. Because of the name, I have helped millions of little guitarists learn things they never would have. Some might hate me because of the title, but I stand by it, and I will make more with titles like this. The more people I help, the better. :)
Mind you, a lot of this stuff won't help unless you're somewhat good on your guitar already. I'm more of the fingerstyle acoustic kind of guy, but gotta get some lighter strings for that tapping practise :P
Exactly. This video is great for beginners who want to open up the doors to the world of experimentation with the guitar. The skills in this video are very useful, and as an added bonus they seem impressive to the average person.
Thank you for uploading this vid! I was searching for those "light pithed notes" but couldn't find any because I didnt know what they were called but now I found out they were actually called harmonics
I believe people judged this wrong... When you see and hear yourself playing the guitar and feel good about it in the beggining, you start practicing more... When I first started playing the guitar, I felt like shit sometimes, then I jumped to tapping, and discovered it was fun! and the other methods. The point of the video is thaf there are tips to make you look good playing the guitar, in a way that you feel good to learn and practice more... IDK, that's what I see, I may be wrong.
+Nick Ven It was done in fun. I am practically laughing near the end of the vid. The title was to draw people into actually practicing techniques that can help their playing. Anyway, Thanks for watching. Check out my latest vid. when you get a few minutes. th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html All the best!
Practice isn't always fun, doing stuff like this is refreshing when you start to get frustrated, he just shouldn't have called the video that. I really appreciate this stuff
+William Love not even dude! you've obviously never heard of Jari Maenpaa. he puts Angus.. and frankly every other guitarist on earth to shame. look up winter madness solo on here by wintersun... if your face isn't completely melted and you can still talk then you can thank me.
+J.R. Robert Sure, Jari Maenpaa is a very skilled player if you like superfluous fingerboard acrobatics with little distinction in each note. Angus is old school and shakes the soul from every note.
Just play what you love don't just learn all famous ones like stairway to heaven just because everyone does, learn it because YOU like it, ofcourse Im sure everyone loves some famous well known music Beatles etc , but dont learn shit just to show people, my housemates always just ask me "can you play californication" or Artic Monkeys etc say no and they ask me why, and I respond just not taken any time to learn it or the words etc, and they respond wtf, its so daft
Jack Hamilton learning those songs, while you may not like them, is very helpful in learning techniques. You could possibly learn new shapes of chords to use, or even notes that sound good together. My Eupho lessons professor has always told me that when you only learn what you like, you either don't advance, or become a one trick pony.
I saw this video yesterday and earlier today am I evil randomly came on and u was like wait why have I heard this before, so this dick head like and said he wrote it. Ok
+Mike V I said I WROTE IT DOWN, you moron. Also, this is NOT Am I Evil. Do you have tin for ears or what buddy? Go look at a transcription, you will see it is not that solo. Idiots like you give guitar players a bad name.
Go learn sweet child o mine. You'll impress the world with that one. Until people get tired of hearing you play it. Then you'll have to learn something else lol
Thank you so much. I really found this helpful. Not so sure about all the criticism below. I will continue to practice so I can improve. This just gives me a few more options. Well done.
Apparently he's never heard of classical guitar dating back to the 1500s with the "finger picking" techniques from the lute and guitar. History dude - look into it. Travis and some dude from Mississippi did NOT invent finger picking...
+Robert K Dude, you show me the tangible, non anecdotal (like your comment) proof that Travis, Everly, or John Hurt, did not invent this specific pattern, and I will believe you. We know for sure that Merle Travis POPULARIZED this specific pattern and there is absolutely no denying that fact. Anyway, thanks for watching.
Are you JOKING? You've clearly never heard of Segovia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9s_Segovia), Tarrega (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francisco_T%C3%A1rrega), Sor (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fernando_Sor), or any of the original classic guitar masters or know anything about the history of the guitar (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_classical_guitar). The finger picking techniques have been in use for CENTURIES. None of the modern performers you mention "invented" squat. They may have put a refinement on a technique, but finger picking has existed before the plectra (you'd call it a pick). Would you like a sample from Vivaldi? What are you wanting? Are you seriously that obtuse?
+Robert K I am talking about that specific pattern played with thumb and one finger Robert. You are missing the point here. For all we know, a caveman with a two string twig guitar invented it. One thing is for sure, Travis popularized that exact pattern.
nope - no question you can play. I never questioned your skills on the guitar - just your knowledge of the history. Keep doing what you do. You play quite well and I have no qualms in saying so. I have played for almost 40 years now - studied classical guitar as well - I cannot play with nearly the range you do. Just because someone challenged you back on the factual validity of something said does not mean they think you do not do something well. Far better to be educated with the right information. However, if you want to bet butt-hurt because someone has more information than you do, then you truly are as obtuse as I suspected.
Okay, just thanks for watching then. I gotta be honest, I never really put much thought into your post, it was too hard to try make logic out of it (it was very nebulous), other than the first sentence. Cheers.
I came to this video to see if I could find fun new techniques to use when playing. I'm hoping the reason this video has so many views is because others were doing the same rather than finding ways to impress people
+EpicDJTime Nothing at all, but you shouldn't play guitar to impress people. You should play it because you like it. If you practice enough, impressing people will come without needing to anything different.
People should play for whatever reason they feel like playing. It isn't going to change one iota in your world if they decide to play for different reasons than you.
Be honest with yourselves, guys. If you play guitar anywhere besides in your bedroom by yourself, then on some level you're trying to "impress people". GTFO with that "Oh you gotta be in the moment broooooo and feel the song maaaaan" nonsense.
An NItu I started playing when I was 5. Nowadays, after all the time and effort I've put into my playing (not enough, to be honest), I'd like it if people think "Oh, he's good."
So the "tricks" to make people think you are "amazing at guitar", is to ..learn the guitar?I'm pretty certain that these are all standard techniques for most all guitarists, not "tricks" ..per se.Don't be mad bro..Just calls 'em like I sees 'em.
Yes I love it that in order to learn these tricks you have to practice them 15 minutes a day. I think the best trick is getting yourself to practice everyday once you're past that anything is possible.
This went viral, I am glad I came up with the name. Tricks and techniques are synonymous anyway. Don't take it so seriously, guitar is about having fun, remember? Thanks for watching.
This video in itself is a trick. See, people think they'll look great at guitar without having to be great, but they've actually just become great at using several common techniques. Genius!
that was fun! thank you for taking the time to produce this video. I remember starting out, and this is so positively informative, it's really nice of you to put this out there for up and comers! and if I may be so bold... one of the first things I learned as a pro musician? "don't listen to other musicians about your performance, or your gear" "listen only to your audience"... some of my best advice ever: I am now one of your fans! (in the audience)
Sounds really good on bass and then walking 1st and 3rd finger up a fret each time you play the note; on the bass tou can even do it with root note and the fifth like in Billy Joel's "My Life"
Too much hate when I play odd chords in odd time signatures and people gets bored, then my friend picks the guitar up, plays the first part of the tapping section in Eruption and everybody is impressed... Every. Time. The Same. F**king. Thing.
+Simone De Pascalis I feel your pain. Most people just don't know anything about music. It usually takes someone who has a decent understanding to appreciate progressive music. I've heard people call dream theater "nothing but noise." They can't comprehend it xD
+Aaron Sil When it comes to popularity (what people like) it really isn't though. You can blame the avalanche of vapid, bubblegum pop on evil record moguls but the fact is, simple sells better, it always will. Mastodon will never approach the popularity of a Taylor Swift or other such pop act because the simplicity (and image) is simply not there in Mastodon or other progressive bands. Frustrating to be sure but you either be a rebel and play 10,000 chords in front of 3 people or go with the flow and play 3 chords in front of 10,000 people. The choice is an individual's to make of course. What is better is subjective, not what people seem to like more.
This guy is amazing and he knows his stuff and how to teach you basics to advanced. If you don’t get something out of every video you’re have your head in your ass. Listen and learn and stay positive. Even if you got one shred of wisdom out of anything people give you. I’ve taken lessons for over four years and played for over 50 years off and on and not one person has taught me so much in so little time. Something that I appreciate very much. Yes it takes practice to become proficient in every of course. Just be positive.
I think people that do not play guitar would still be impressed by someone ripping off a Sabbath riff with power chords, and that is the point of the video, not to impress someone like you that has experience. :)
Very nice. Guitar Is also quite nice. Sounds good. I enjoyed the power chords. I used satisfaction as the basis for the first song I ever wrote. Not too original. But I was in the 6th grade. Well I think you have provided a real service here. And I hope you will do more. Michael.

Aw, thanks man, that is kind of you to say!
OR: Stop being so shitty at guitar and get good at it. No tricks. Music isn't about impressing your friends.
Metal Marauder For some people it is. For most people it is about popularity and for a few, artistry. Who are we to judge?
UptempoMusicLessons It's one thing to be bad at guitar and still be passionate about it. It's one thing to learn guitar just to impress people and actually put in the effort to learn it well. It's another thing when you have no passion, no talent, and don't even attempt to legitimately get good at guitar. People who aren't willing to learn to play guitar well shouldn't be playing guitar. If you're too lazy to actually get good at anything to the point that you have to learn tricks to make you look like you can actually play, then that's pathetic. All they're doing is diminishing the hard work and dedication real musicians put into our craft.

+Mike Draijer Probably the easiest thing to do. That's why I always use drop tunings and the songs I enjoy playing are 99% power chords.
+MushyTheCraft You're probably a greasy haired emo loser that only listens to death metal.
Bryan Rendon Lol
Bryan Rendon Haha I actually listen to metalcore, post-hardcore and pop punk, and I consider myself "scene-minded".
MushyTheCraft Not my style of music at all, pop-punk might be a bit my style though.
Or else you could just play Wonder Wall.
The only song you need to know in college.
DomSchu Nice one. Not a bad chord progression.
DomSchu This comment wins.

Here's an *amazing* trick!
Practice!!!
I'm Always Right. Everything I Say Is Fact. Is that a fallout perk I've been missing ?
NightPanda Yes
No no... it's kinda like golf... put your money into equipment & gizmos... forget lessons & practice, that's just crazy talk.
Hey, I tried to do those tricks yesterday and every girl in my school started to harass me in order to have sex with me. My girlfriend consequently got so jealous that we had to break up. Thanks anyways.
+Dark Blazing Flame 13

+Dark Blazing Flame 13. hahaha
Now if you started Raping that might happen seems younger girls don't like real Music they like that Boom Boom 808 thing.
+Watchman4u wrong time for a typo
Hello J.K.,
Hey wait a minute, don't you go to an all boys school? (lol???)
Fucking no idea!
Step 1 - play with teeth
Step 2 - place guitar over head
Step 3 - play guitar upside down
Step 4 - if else fails, burn with ZIPPO lighter fluid.
Hendrix reference
Tyler Chatterton
my bad, I forgot the bit about "Swing over head and smash into priceless Marshall amp"
and then sell the guitar in auction for zillions
Daniel Qelemeni
oh yeah forgot that bit : /
+Daniel Qelemeni zillions isn't an amount
You're a good teacher. You do a good job of breaking down the component parts, slowing them down and demonstrating them with clarity. As a beginning student, I thank you.
Thanks for watching Ron.
Here's a 6th trick to make people think you are amazing at guitar:
Be amazing at guitar.
+Matt Bellamy
Unfortunately none of us are born amazing at guitar...it takes a while! In the meantime.....
+Mark Thuaux Well, you got something right! I'm glad you agree with my assessment of you. This shows you understand you have room for personal growth. It's a step in the right direction!
Your comment is useless... That is like tossing someone a scalpel and saying they are a surgeon...
Two best secrets to playing guitar, assuming the passion, commitment are there to start with:
1: A metronome, they are invaluable. When you buy a guitar, you should buy a tuner and metronome too. Timing is half the battle,
2: Patient, perfect, slow practice that increases the timing as you master the skill you are attempting to learn.
+Mark Thuaux Yes and I can teach any of you over Skype. Any theory, song, or technique if it relates to rock, blues, country or jazz.
These 5 "tricks" could be summed up with "learn guitar"
Lol. Wh
Have you seen my videos on Yngwie and Van Halen?
1:36 if you practice that 15 minutes a day, you'll go back in time a lot!
(LoZ OoT)
My Name. IS NOT. RIIIIIICK! Rofl man few will get it but those who will, gonna love it! + 1000
Exactly what I was thinking, song of time ocarina of time zelda
Hahahaha you fucking LAD, love Zelda so much! :)
My Name. IS NOT. RIIIIIICK! Yaasssss... I was looking for this comment. So glad I found it.
ZELDAAAA
It may be a 'trick' but it still takes PRACTICE!!!! Looking forward to trying this!
SAME BRUH
What's funny is that these aren't "tricks to be amazing at guitar"... they are real skills to practice, that when mastered.... would result in you improving your guitar skills. Not tricks... practice and skill. But the title of the video is what is getting the hits, not the content. The content is good, and the guy does a good job, but these titles are what draws people's attention because it feeds on people's desire to take shortcuts to achieve things. The secret is that there are no shortcuts, lol. Nice video, though. : )
And nice job on the teaching aspect. "like" from me.
+DoodleBug Stoodios Thanks for watching and for the kind words! Please check out my latest vid if you have a moment. th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html

Bingo!!!
Thanks dude! great vid!! I have been playing for 2 weeks and you taught me some cool tricks!
does this work with piano
No, but it does work on a synth. Also, make sure you mic the synth properly. I've found that an sm81 on the left output and a 421 on the right works great. There's very very low volume, but you can hear various clunking sounds along with other things going on in the room. You'll love it!
Mic C5 and F1 and you get just the right amount of click.
Yes
I been playin' 50 years and my take is any time I can learn even 1 little something in 15 minutes it was time well spent. Learned more than one here. You'll never make music if yer heart ain't pure . . . Noise? Maybe. Music? Never.
Now 54 years
Trick #6. Don't go to Guitar Center and play your new power chords on a cranked Marshall. : D
MyworstEnemy Why the hell not? They LOVE that shit.
Myuzishin
LoL!! Correcting Trick #6 Go to GC now and Play those Power Chords!!
*****
Oh how I wish that were true at my local Guitar Center! It is brutal, and it's always the worst players that crank the amps?
MyworstEnemy I used to do that when I was a teenager and then someone who was insanely good would play over me and I would put my guitar back and leave depressed. Lol.
***** Yeah I only was capable of giving up for the day and then always came back to it wanting to be like or better than the person that depressed me. =)
thanks for this... I'm just beginning but I will be watching your videos. and practicing. I'm 53 but grew up in the 80s. finally have time to learn.
These might not make you amazing at guitar but they still have their place in the sense they help new musicians gain a little confidence doing something simple that sounds pretty good unlike the relentless banging off of Em, G and C roughly to Green Day
hey but i love green day
4th time watching this video, i like to watch it just because it reminds me of how i started. I wouldn't be playing right now if it wasn't for this. Thanks to you, i can now play the second half to Eruption by Van Halen. Working on the first part now. I sincerely thank you for helping me get to where i am now.
+DatCosmoDoe
I felt the same way. lol
I'm even feeling like messing with my guitar after having it away for a little bit over a year...
I don't know how I ended up here. And I actually didn't know the last trick. hahaha
+DatCosmoDoe Thanks for the kind words and for watching and please check out this video I made along the same lines; th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html All the best!
ignore the video title. he's still teaching valid techniques that every hobbyist, or skilled musician can use and should know, so why the snobbery?
+ALT3REDB3AST Dolts, that's why the snobbery. So many idiots on YT it is unfathomable but thank you for watching, I appreciate it. All the best! PS title is why it has almost 2 million views BTW.
That tapping was so Am I Evil xD
Great camera angles .Love how you go from slow to fast and the tricks are very cool and simple .All this and NO Pretentious

Sabbra Cadabra Practice properly and you won't suck.

no, no and no.
They were obly hammering the 4th and 8th fret (and vice versa) no tapping involved
you're right I see that also
i love the irony

Metallica isn't "Emo" music. If you want emo music, listen to BVB.
That first tip was the song of time
*song of time
Whats the correction for? He's right. It is the song of time... pleb
+Devin Phares guy probably edited it

+Ryne Santos same
These are useful techniques to learn and master. Thanks for sharing them. Of course people need to practice, just add these techniques to your practice so you've got more tools in your toolbox.
Very true!
Did anyone else notice that the first tapping lick he plays is the Song of Time from Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time? 1:36
I thought I was the only one
Part of me wanted to scream ZELDA but didn't after realizing he wouldn't hear me through the screen. Still sounds cool.
It's actually a piece from "am i evil" by diamondhead
+lucas gunnell I was pretty sure that's what it was.
+Knight Solaire it's 3 notes-a triad that can be found in literally thousands of songs.
I think a bonus trick would be palm muting. When I was first learning guitar, I thought palm muting (especially power chords) was the most awesome sound ever!
randman21 Good idea. Thanks for watching!
it's still pretty cool !randman21
teriakamoto Totally! As cool as when I first learned it :D
This was an awesome video.
Thanks for sharing these tips. I particularly liked playing tones and power chords. I'm really looking forward to mastering these myself.
Congratulations for the pacience! I´m a guitar teacher, and the "little things" are the most difficult stuff to teach!
#2 Fingerpicking
I just remember when I am 10 y.o and practiced this style in a classical music school!!
1---- Freight Train
2---- Dust in the wind (Kansas)
I think this stuff is good for the beginner to learn a basic techniques, not to make people think you are amazing, cause this is too fundamental.... just saying~ ps : sorry for my bad english :)
you know it's funny how many experts out there always make negative comments, yet as of 6-22-2015, 280,708 people watched this. i find that ironic. anything you learn and can apply is a positive. great songs aren't always written by people with degree's in music theory.
teriakamoto Thanks for watching!
UptempoMusicLessons HAHA nice!
teriakamoto It's not funny. It's how art works. There ARE no experts. Take the critique with a grain of salt, that's what ya gotta do. Everybody knows what they knows, and does what they does. If there was a right way to do it, we'd have heard about it by now. If it sounds good, it is good.
funny is in the eyes of the insane. actually there are experts, and and and and there is a right way of doing anything and everything. like i said, you don't have to be a genius. far out man. excellent.
teriakamoto as evidenced by all the videos you've posted of your playing, right? Yeah, that's what I thought.
What guitar is that? It's beautiful.
I'm pretty sure that is a PRS. Great guitars.
Colton Letarski thanks
Thanks for watching Ayesha.
Its a prs
Ayesha Summers Its definitely a PRS. Looks like a CE 22.
great job mate.. I've been playing for a loooong time and always finding something new to learn. cheers

5 Tricks To Make People Think You Are Amazing At Guitar…
Trick #1: Be amazing at guitar.
Well fuck.
You forgot to say first that I have to practice these tricks minimum of twenty years.
I know that I will have to. At least...
Learned all of them in 1 month....
step forward to receive your medal sir!
learned all in a week
Guitar God.
To me making people think you're awesome on guitar is actually playing songs. This reminds me of guys from high school who wanted to make people think they were cool because of a riff they could play. Serious musicians don't try to make people think they're awesome, they prefer to actually playing songs and playing them well, not go on an ego trip.
thanks UML, I enjoyed this. Things like this are helpful for us self taught guitarists.
Thanks for watching!
Never stop practicing first! Second, memorize the fretboard. Even without any theory or knowing scales, which definitely helps, knowing what a note is going to sound like before you play it is key.
Good points! Thanks for watching!
awesome dude.
Thanks for watching and please check out my other vid along the same lines: th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html&lc=z12yh5djyl3ru1qz404cgbfwflvzfdo4waw
To make you look amazing at guitar you have to be amazing :D
Thanks for the clarification.
No bothers man ;) I’m just saying there is no point to practice “how to look amazing” if you can just practice how to be amazing ;)
UptempoMusicLessons Still an amazing video to learn some tricks though!! :) Keep up the good work!
Simeeyy Thanks for watching.
Not necessarily. I'm probably what you'd call at an intermediate level but I use these all the time and people think I'm way better than I really am :)
I've been playing for a long time, and am confident in my abilities, but I love learning new tricks like this! Thanks for sharing!!
I may have already commented on this...forgot how much I liked it, I guess.
then there is always trick # 6 if those 5 fail and that is after playing a song, you take your guitar and bash it against the furniture or floor and then spray it with gasoline and light it on fire, # 6 has worked so well for me, that it has gotten me laid several times.
+Robert Yeahright OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH

I like your name and profile pic
No but he did play Am I Evil
Me too hahaha.
That's one helluva nice Eric Johnson tone you had going there in the intro! Thanx for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Trick one: Actually become a good guitarist.
these tricks help you become a better guitarist. he just named the video poorly
I disagree. Because of the name, I have helped millions of little guitarists learn things they never would have. Some might hate me because of the title, but I stand by it, and I will make more with titles like this. The more people I help, the better. :)
Nah, I gotcha. I was just making a joke based on the title. The video is actually very good, and so is your playing.
Half of the comments here are just like : "Don't listen to this guy and practice until you're actually amazing.".
75%
+MushyTheCraft and he actually shows you good things
+Walsh2571 People would rather be negative I guess.
Walsh2571 Yep, but I think some people commented before watching.
MushyTheCraft
No doubt.
2:59 SONG OF TIME - ZELDA OOT
TheNumber24
I thought of that too and n then I got distracted by the hearing of am I evil
Thank you for uploading this vid! I was searching for those "light pithed notes" but couldn't find any because I didnt know what they were called but now I found out they were actually called harmonics
Thanks for watching!
Trick #6: practice the riff in Smoke on the water
magnus werner ottesen I don't even think you need to practice that
+magnus werner ottesen Or Satisfaction.
+magnus werner ottesen Yeah but learn it how its meant to be played...
What guitarist doesn't know how to play 'smoke on the water'?
Ryan Endicott How many know how to play it properly though? Its like Whole Lotta Love...theres a trick to it.
overtones are cool! Thanks!
Thanks for watching, please sub!
already done!! :)
+UptempoMusicLessons yeah man. nice channel, just subbed, keep up with the good work! o/
Practice isn't always fun, doing stuff like this is refreshing when you start to get frustrated, he just shouldn't have called the video that. I really appreciate this stuff
+Reyna Gray Thanks for watching, please check out my latest vid along the same lines th-cam.com/video/4o8t1chbi0o/w-d-xo.html
damn.. I had to figure this shit out 45 yrs ago by myself
Respect to you
instead of making people think you're amazing, practice hard and show them that you really are
That is the idea. Practice what I teach in the vid and you will be able to show them.
+UptempoMusicLessons You should've given a different title then (:
Not at all. I got millions of beginner guitarists to see this and helped them. That is the point as a teacher, help as many people as possible.
he's saying that you should of phrased the title to something like "5 tricks to BE amazing at guitar"
Oh, I "should of" should I?
Ummm, 4 million views. Game, set, match. Thanks for watching. :)
3:41 Sounds like Am I Evil (By Metallica)
In Like 1:24 on the studio version. .-.
but in a upper note btw
Diamond Head
Yeah right! :) I just mentioned Metallica because they did a cover of this song too
;)
In the beginning it sounds a bit like Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover.
Thanks for the tips
Thanks for watching Gerald!
#6 The dead blowfly on the floor like Angus Young does!
oh yeaaaa
+William Love not even dude! you've obviously never heard of Jari Maenpaa. he puts Angus.. and frankly every other guitarist on earth to shame. look up winter madness solo on here by wintersun... if your face isn't completely melted and you can still talk then you can thank me.
+J.R. Robert
Sure, Jari Maenpaa is a very skilled player if you like superfluous fingerboard acrobatics with little distinction in each note. Angus is old school and shakes the soul from every note.
+William Love
Don't worry about it. His channel has no content just like his head. LOL
+Archonis The Great
ButtLicks? I've never used that technique. You sound like an expert. Does that come in guitar tab?
Trick #1: Play the Song of Time
Dude! It sounds just like it
+Luke Kostrewa hahaha now that you made me notice it's so funny!
Jack Hamilton shutup
Electric Cream Man you
Electric Cream Man lol funneh lil dumb dumb
Jack Hamilton why I shouldnt learn that or other songs? I dont see a problem if I would learn songs that I dont like
Jack Hamilton learning those songs, while you may not like them, is very helpful in learning techniques. You could possibly learn new shapes of chords to use, or even notes that sound good together. My Eupho lessons professor has always told me that when you only learn what you like, you either don't advance, or become a one trick pony.
Thanks....I really love this..
Thanks for watching!
Dude. 3 words. Cliffs..Of...Dover.
HOLY SHIT!!! I haven't heard that in twenty fucking YEARS! That's a nice long piece, right there!
it's really fun to play
yeah but that song actually requires you to be good at guitar. Missed the point.
Is it me or does the first trick sound almost exactly like Am I Evil?
+David Chacon AM I HEBREW.....
Haha. So true! I don't know what it is about that song that people are so amazed by. Haha.
And then stairway to heaven
James Florin Smells like teen spirit is another one
James Florin nah man u will impress non players the first couple of times and then it will stop immediatly... its a nice song to learn anyway though
James Florin I've driven myself insane at times playing the intro riff.
Thank you so much. I really found this helpful. Not so sure about all the criticism below. I will continue to practice so I can improve. This just gives me a few more options. Well done.
Thanks for watching! Please subscribe if you haven't already. More on the way. :)
+Robert K If you think I am obtuse, go make your own video Mr. Know It All. Seriously, show me up boss. Good luck!
nope - no question you can play.
1:36 - 1:41 song of time !!
These are legitimate guitar techniques... Not tricks. And if you're good at it you can make some really proficient stuff with these people
+CaptainChocolatePig Thanks for the kind words and for watching!
Oh I'm sorry if you took that the wrong way, I didn't mean it like that! Sorry
Okay, just thanks for watching then. I gotta be honest, I never really put much thought into your post, it was too hard to try make logic out of it (it was very nebulous), other than the first sentence. Cheers.
UptempoMusicLessons Yeah I wasn't trying to be rude sorry!
It's all good man, no harm done, you are free to have your opinion, as nebulous as it seems to be lol!
Freakin Awesome ! Many thanks guitar Maestro !
Thanks for watching and for the kind words Klaus! Please sub. :)
I came to this video to see if I could find fun new techniques to use when playing. I'm hoping the reason this video has so many views is because others were doing the same rather than finding ways to impress people
I kind of feel like a good guitarist should know how to do all this stuff. None of it is particularly difficult though
Whats wrong with impressing people?
+EpicDJTime Nothing at all, but you shouldn't play guitar to impress people. You should play it because you like it. If you practice enough, impressing people will come without needing to anything different.
People should play for whatever reason they feel like playing. It isn't going to change one iota in your world if they decide to play for different reasons than you.
Be honest with yourselves, guys. If you play guitar anywhere besides in your bedroom by yourself, then on some level you're trying to "impress people". GTFO with that "Oh you gotta be in the moment broooooo and feel the song maaaaan" nonsense.
+SodomySnake man, I started playing guitar when I was 6 years old. Do you think I wanted to impress someone? fck
+SodomySnake 'GTFO'? What the hell does that mean? Too lazy to type words?
An NItu I started playing when I was 5. Nowadays, after all the time and effort I've put into my playing (not enough, to be honest), I'd like it if people think "Oh, he's good."
Leatheryed1"...fuck off..." Is that more to your liking?
SodomySnake that´s true, but I mean, I´d like people to say "damn he is good", but anyway I don´t play for impressing somebody
So the "tricks" to make people think you are "amazing at guitar", is to ..learn the guitar?I'm pretty certain that these are all standard techniques for most all guitarists, not "tricks" ..per se.Don't be mad bro..Just calls 'em like I sees 'em.
Step 1: be pretty frickin' awesome
Yes I love it that in order to learn these tricks you have to practice them 15 minutes a day. I think the best trick is getting yourself to practice everyday once you're past that anything is possible.
Welcome to the internet era of clickbait.
This went viral, I am glad I came up with the name. Tricks and techniques are synonymous anyway. Don't take it so seriously, guitar is about having fun, remember? Thanks for watching.
Watch the whole vid. I know how to teach, and if you do not know all of these techniques yet, you will learn something. Thanks for watching.
This video in itself is a trick. See, people think they'll look great at guitar without having to be great, but they've actually just become great at using several common techniques. Genius!
Should be called " 5 tricks to impress women to get you laid" lol hint 1: learn " Sweet child o mine"

Overplayed song. Play Eruption by Van Halen
@@slysportsguy5546 thats the joke
I thought you were wearing a HOT WATER MUSIC t-shirt from the Florida emo band
cool
Freight liner
+1thess523 I have that sticker in my locker.
+cuerollen cool
So Just learn to play eruption...... Everyone will find you amazing, but you have to be pretty good to play that.
that was fun!
thank you for taking the time to produce this video.
I remember starting out, and this is so positively informative,
it's really nice of you to put this out there for up and comers!
and if I may be so bold...
one of the first things I learned as a pro musician?
"don't listen to other musicians about your performance, or your gear"
"listen only to your audience"...
some of my best advice ever:
I am now one of your fans! (in the audience)
Playing octaves is another easy trick that sounds good.
especially on bass
***** tell me something I don't know :( lol
No one impressed by bass? Tell that to flea and mark king
+Morgan Hyde And don't forget Geddy Lee.
Sounds really good on bass and then walking 1st and 3rd finger up a fret each time you play the note; on the bass tou can even do it with root note and the fifth like in Billy Joel's "My Life"
That was my favorite Guitar lesson so far! Thank you so much!
Same here 😩. Really sucks.
+Aaron Sil word
***** That is subjective.
I can reduce this down to one "trick"... practice. LoL !
And that is what these techniques take to master.
Just be positive.

they are all good except power chords that is a beginners skill
I think people that do not play guitar would still be impressed by someone ripping off a Sabbath riff with power chords, and that is the point of the video, not to impress someone like you that has experience. :)
UptempoMusicLessons You know you are right lol I take it back. just play smoke ion the water rhythm part and u are in!
ed barr Ha ha true dat!
Most heavy metal bands do use power chords you know... sabbath, maiden, judas priest, metallica, slayer, pantera ect.
tricks? you mean techinques
Synonyms for sure. Thank you for watching! Please subscribe for more. :)
Very nice. Guitar Is also quite nice. Sounds good. I enjoyed the power chords. I used satisfaction as the basis for the first song I ever wrote. Not too original. But I was in the 6th grade.
Well I think you have provided a real service here. And I hope you will do more.
Michael.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching Michael! Please sub and share if you can.
