  • This video will be a sort of review of the build of this Cyber-Hobby StuH 42, but mainly just how to correct it. Overall, a great kit to build - flawless fit, excellent detail, beautiful zimmerit texture, instructions are quite good - just not too great in the accuracy department if that even matters to you.
    Summary of things I changed that you really should do:
    - Corrected the fenders to Alkett-type
    - Changed S-hooks out for C-hooks
    - Corrected rear light to tubular-style one (parts are in kit)
    - Used non-zimmerited engine deck hatches (parts are in kit)
    - Removed engine coolant hatch under rear hull (modification of kit parts)
    - Didn't put on hemispherical towing hub on rear plate (modification of kit parts)
    - Added weld seam around cupola shot deflector and over gun reciprocator
    - Added zimmerit to the top of the toolbox on engine deck
    Summary of things I changed that don't really need to do:
    - Added a metal gun barrel
    - Added Alket-type steel return rollers (rubber ones are fine though)
    - Added engine deck stowage rails (not every tank had these)
    - Added early-type side skirts and brackets (you could also use the later-type too, that would make your tank March to May 1944, otherwise it's November 1943 to February 1944...also not every tank had these)
    - Added empty tool clamps for towing cables
    - Replaced loader's gun shield with one with a square hole (common of later tanks like this but not always)

There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. just finished building 'hobo franz' kit 6488,it also had the wingnuts.There were loads and they looked great if a bit delicate.I Put some pdw in cab with radios with some gas masks and water bottles.Added a couple of racks on rear of fighting compartment.A couple of brass trays for magazines(gen2 mp40s and kar98 and bolts.Scored up the wood panneling so it had some splits between planks.And thinned down ammo crate added some pe hinges and catches and hung some binoculars on catch of front hatch.Lovely build and it was cheap.No winterketten though..I also just finished brummbar mid with the 4 spare wheel holding wire frame.I know brummbars wore out rubber road wheels a lot,front and rear.I have a bag of roadwheels with the seperate tyres and rims(about 8) i was wondering if you had any suggestions of how to show them worn from weight damage instead of just wear.And wether i should use them on tank as well as in rack worn out,or just two worn and two new ones in the rear wire rack.Would be nice to show off rim behind tyre for the contrast between metal and rubber.And this seems best kit for utilising the opportunity of these particular wheels.Yours is a facsimile not a model,a testament to the time youve put in building and researching.Cheers.This sturmhaube42 is on my list after my ryefield panther and 'hummel' .....W/....winterketttennnnnn.....arrive.Still on vk3601.have fun.

    Hi buddy, small question maybe you can answer about the engine hatches you done there? Rite I bought that rebox das werk 42 kit of this it's got a few parts with zim and without the rear engine hatches have the zim under the heat sink pannals whare you cut one in half there and the under cover pannals are just normal plate is that the way they were? I have watched a private collector's collection on TH-cam and they have one of these stugs with the zimmerit but not the waffle just panther square but it's all over the rear deck under the raised pannals? I'm going with the steel return rollers too I've got the stug 3 G dragons 6 day war version I'm stealing parts from but there's 3 different types of return rollers in that kit! 2 types of steel on the rubber maybe do it with one different steel roller for interest but I do know there was alot of inaccuracies with the dragon kit before don't know of the re release of das werks one has fixed issues? Looks a really good kit that zimmerit is just amazing eh!

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello :) Yes this waffle zimmerit pattern (which is the pattern used at the ALKETT factory) did not have zimmerit on the engine deck hatches, except for the half of the hatch that does not have the raised panel. I used spare parts from this kit to get the parts without zimmerit, and I cut the hatches in half to get that one hatch that is half-zimmerit and half plain.
      The other pattern of zimmerit you are talking about from the video is the 2cm waffle pattern which is the pattern used at the MIAG factory. Those vehicles have different features and also MIAG never built StuH, only StuG. And you're right that this pattern is similar to the zimmerit on Panthers...MIAG factory also built Jadgpanther so they used the Panther zimmerit pattern on their StuG too.
      When I saw Das Werk was re-releasing this kit last year I emailed them about the issues but they said they were not interested in correcting any of them since that's up to the modeler if they want the kit to be super-correct (some modelers don't mind).

    • @Panzermeister36

      Nothing apart from the gun and the ammunition stowage. StuH is a 105mm gun, StuG is a 75mm.

    Hi bud can I get your help on a stug 3 ausf G I bought yesterday plz? It's the newer das werk of maybe this stug it's the 2 in 1 it says on box with zim! O opened it up and was having a look and noticed it only has the rubber return rollers in the kit for and early I have the Arab G from dragon that has the 6 holes steel rollers in it spare so robbed them but now thinking if I do the das werk with the long 75m with zim and steel rollers oh and it's only come with the square block type mantlet!? Early again if I have done my research the arab dragon kit has the sourcluf type I can use but now I'm muddled up with it can it really be a 2 in 1 kit with just the early type parts or am I completely off the point and missing something? Any help is great before I start this kit not sure now if to do the das werk the early with the zim square mantlet and rubber rollers now and do the Arab stug the late

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello. I sure can help :)
      You're on the right track there. If you want to, you can use the cast mantlet and steel return rollers. But you don't actually need to. Remember zimmerit is more of a mid-war feature than a late-war one. That waffle zimmerit pattern was introduced in December 1943, and the cast mantlet was only introduced in October 1943, but never on all vehicles. We actually still see the early bolted mantlet being used throughout the whole war even to the last days. Maybe only 20% of StuG ever had the cast "saukoft". And the rubber return rollers were still used until about July 1944.
      So you don't actually need to give the kit steel rollers or the cast mantlet. You can if you want to, but it's not required. Germany was always being held back by production during the war and so older features were still being used up on newer tanks.
      The things missing in the Das Werk kit that really should be there are side skirts, since those were added long before zimmerit was being applied to tanks. Also, the kit gives the wrong type of fender supports to match the factory that would have built it with the zimmerit pattern provided....but now we are getting into the very picky details here.
      So to wrap it up, you can add the cast "saukopf" mantlet and steel return rollers if you want to, but you can also use the standard parts too. But you should also add the side skirt fittings as well, for sure.
      I think they call the kit 2-in-1 because you can build it as a 75mm gun vehicle ("Sturmgeschütz) or as the 105mm howitzer variant "Sturmhaubitze".

    hey, what colour did you spray your bmp1, and what wilder oil paint did you use to enhance the green?

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've actually been filming a video on painting and weathering it. I just haven't touching the thing in a year, so that's kinda stuck half-done. I may just upload it as a sort of "Part 1" thing. So to answer, I used XF-71 and XF-65 for the camouflage (with an initial layer of XF-14 to be exposed during the hairspray chipping). For oils on the green, I mainly used Wilder's Dark Yellow, Light Buff, Blue Patina, and Olive Green.

    • @harryainsworth6923
      @harryainsworth6923 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats a 50/50 mix of 71 and 65 right?

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it has a faint camo pattern. I painted it with XF-65 first and then went back in with XF-71 (which is a little lighter) and painted it as to leave spots of the XF-65 showing through as darker camo blobs. So I did it in a kind of reversed way; usually you'd do the base (XF-71) first and then paint the camo blobs over that (XF-65).

  • @Psiberzerker
    @Psiberzerker 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't model any more, but when i did, I hated the Mitt Zimmerit models, because that defeated the purpose for me: Applying my own Zimmerit as part of the painting process. I also added cement "Armor" and side logs to them, as sie crews did to customize their unique vehicles. There was no Standard Zimmerit pattern, because it was applied by the crews, in this way. I also added a commander's machinegun turret to one, the Kommand vehicle for the Squad (A SturmHaubitze, and another SturmGeschütz) for visibility. And defense with the MG42, and protection for the Kommand vehicle. (Also, a Radio aileron) Honestly, I don't know why more Infantry Support Divisions didn't do this, because a Coaxial isn't all that effective against anyone you're not pointed at, and a roof mounted one exposes the Kommander, who also need to See the 2 vehicles at his Kommand. If I were High Kommand, I probably would have sent a Panzer III, StuG III, and StuH to support each Infantry Battalion, for flexibility, but I wasn't consulted. The Nazis did a lot of things that didn't make sense.

    • @Psiberzerker
      @Psiberzerker 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also had a lot of Half Tracks. The only vehicle that out-produced the StuG III/StuH in World War II. We mostly did it for tabletop wargaming, anyway. I picked sei Deutchebags, because i really liked their Vehicles. My brother had an equivalent force of Shermans, and M-3 Half Tracks. Our original system was based on Battleship, with a literal sandbox, and a box cut in half to use as screens while we set upo fortifications, and green Army Men. It pretty much snowballed from there... My Sturmhaubitze started out a StuG III kit, as well.

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Psiberzerker there certainly were standard Zimmerit patterns. It was applied at the factory to the vehicles when they were being built before they were painted. Zimmerit was rarely applied to older vehicles that were still in service but were built before Zimmerit was being applied at factories, but it was never done by crews. It's a myth just like crews painting camouflages on their vehicles. This was all done at repair depots by work crews who had specialized equipment. The Germans standardized everything.
      Later StuG III also had a remote controlled machine gun on the roof added like you described. Very few had coaxial guns.

    You said that if someone want to build StuH need to buy StuG July 44. This vehicles had the same gun mantlets or this kind contains corrected one for StuH. 10.5 need bigger hole in the mantlet than 7.5, isn't it?

    • @Panzermeister36

    I don't know when you're going to see this, BUT making Zimmerett isn't really that difficult. You can you a number of tools and techniques. They even make tools JUST for that. Tamiya makes a set I think Lion Roar did at one point. Some have dies and some have others But to recreate that on the back you could have used apoxie sculpt and built up a thick enough layer for your toolbox and just pressed that die you showed into it and whalla

    Great videos and big help for someone getting back into the hobby after over 20 years and boy have things changed!. You mention 6633 which appears to have disappeared off the face of the earth. I have ordered 6644 but do you have any views as to a suitable alternative? Also what would you recommend for an early, up to E and a IV?

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Derek Shores yeah, 6633 is very rare now. 6644 is also a very good kit. Dragon doesn't really have any good modern kits for the earlier StuG with the short gun. I would recommend the Bronco StuG III kits for Ausf.C to E. Tamiya makes a good Ausf.B. The older Dragon kit from the 1990s is the only option for an Ausf.A but it's not a bad kit. Just watch out for the modern Dragon Ausf.E and D kits. They're not good.
      I'm actually not a big fan on StuG IV but the Dragon kits are good here. Some Dragon kits come with molded-on zimmerit like this, and some are missing it. All early production and I think all mid production StuG IV should have zimmerit. Late production don't need zimmerit. Dragon makes a late, a mid, and an early all without zimmerit, and they make I think both early and mid also with zimmerit...though maybe only actually one of those two. I built the early without zimm a while ago and it was good, but I didn't give it zimm.

    • @Panzermeister36
      @Panzermeister36  5 ปีที่แล้ว
