I’m watching videos because I’m planning to build a tent platform in my back yard. I have so much time invested already and haven’t bought the first item. Well, except for the tents. I am wondering about preserving the wood to protect it from water damage. My platform will be 10 x 16. I have a Pomoly hot tent stove so I need enough space so I don’t have to worry about catching anything on fire and still fit the grandkids in there with me. But thank you for all the thoughts, mistakes, redos to save me from enduring the same frustration. Very nice deck. I’m hoping mine looks as good!
If you just had unscrewed those end 10 feet so the 12 foot was on the outside of the 10 feet horizontals - would that have fixed your 10 foot joist problem? I think so. Would have saved you the time of having to cut them all? OK that's precisely what you did! thanks
Did you attach the joists from the outside of the 12 foot foundation? Or did you just rely on the joist hangers for the attachment to the 12 foot sides?
That's exactly what I was going to say !! After my shed build I swore I'd never do another build without blueprints & material list... But we'll see !!! I will also be building a tent deck & a small A-frame alone this summer. I'm 70 yr old single woman & you can follow & laugh at my channel this Spring !! Lol
deck boards running in the diection you chose welcomes rain running into the tent from front (or porch) of the tent unless the tent front completely covers the deck.
@@philbrown5722 i think you intended to run the deck boards horizontally with the tent door but realized you messed up your board lengths and had to run them front to back. if your boards are cupped at all, water will run into the tent unless your pitch is towards the door

You did a good thing making the space between the boards smaller. It will discourage snakes, Aisiania jumping worms etc. from coming in.
Raise wood off ground and tarp. It should stay dry indefinitely if treated wood

Yeah, that does seem like a possiblity. I'll be interested to see how it works out in practice.

I tarp my tent area. I'm in Hawaii so it's necessary. Consider tarping for dryness and preserving your footprint and tent.
A contractor’s rectangular pencil is a great 1/4” spacer
