i just saw a life sized one displayed at the Geek Store window a couple of days ago. Im not shitting you. I was saying "holy cow, he f*kin did it". Starts about 10k tho.
As entertaining a speech as this is, I strongly recommend everyone watch it for style points. Forget the speech, observe Nick's skills and instincts as a speaker. His face is open, his delivery is measured and very confident. This is one of the best non-political public speakers I have ever seen.
Oh boy I think he is on the road for a huge disappointment. As a mechanical engineer to another I hate to tell him that we do not build Iron Man suits and most of us don't work on fancy projects just solve everyday problems huh...
thats how speaches should be, nothing like all congratulations and do your best shit... listen to that man! though probably 90% of us wont follow his advices...
What strikes me is his professionalism. His delivery was perfect! Each of his points was clearly articulated, he had well-timed pauses, and even the section of his speech with the music was so well-memorized that he hit the script at the proper times to create impact with the music's highlights, building the audience's confidence in his testimonial. Excellent example of "it's not what you say, but how you say it."
Being the "disappointment" of my family for all my life, and being in and out of different foster families, no one has really understood my dream, and neither do I. I didn't know what university I even wanted to go to, BUT NOW I KNOW, BECAUSE I SHALL DELIVER A BAD-ASS SPEECH, AND INVENT SHIT THAT WILL BLOW PEOPLES MINDS AT GEORGIA TECH. THANK YOU, NICOLAS SELBY. THANK YOU.
I was that person. Wanting to do the impossible. I got in one of the best polymer engineering schools and was heading to my dream. What I missed is that I was running myself through a factory and running hard as I could. Until, my health deteriorated and I almost died. I didn't realize I had soo many underlying medical difficulties and syndromes. I now have taken a step back and realized I forgot my passion. How can I achieve my dreams if I'm dead? Stop, learn, enjoy your new experience, and NEVER rush yourself.....because you will not learn and be inspired because you will be in the ER most of the time. I will change the world, but when my time comes. I will do the impossible when it is my time and I will live to see it. That is my knowledge to all freshman. Don't pile over max hours taking classes during breakfast lunch and summer just because you want a phd at 25. I realized I have taken myself outside of this world so much for a good resume that I almost died. Knowledge is not just sitting in class, but experiences. I might not become world famous but I will have made a difference. To The Top.
This is the best speech ever it will motivate you to be the best you can be and offer the world something special (ask not what the world can offer you rather ask what you can offer the world)
God, I am so stoked for when you guys graduate in 2017 and come out to the workplace. You're going to have to start where all of us did at the bottom, but your minds are gold. I'll be waiting At the starting line when you hit the ground running...
I was not understand what he's saying 10 years ago. Not perfect yet but I understand 90% of what he saying. I see how I study hard in english.. Thank you and this video made my day!
Oh my goodness. The man spoke, the crowd listened and he dropped the microphone owning the stage. I laughed so hard because he made me feel deficient, my mortal mind thinking. I tip my hat to him and would have given him a standing ovation. Great Job. Smart and down right funny.
Quite the inspiring speech indeed. I am currently enrolled in high school, and shortly after I watched this video about two months ago, I decided that I wanted to be a structural engineer. After all, I've always had a knack for designing and building things. Anyway, I've been madly searching for a school to look forward to attending for such an occupation. I've always wanted to be in a public university, for personal reasons. I've looked at several schools that either had a good architecture or civil engineering program; it's come down to five. But guess who's at the top of the list? None other than the Georgia Institute of Technology. Nick Selby, props to you for making such an inspiring speech. When people say it takes guts to say what you said, they are nowhere short of 100% correct. Your speech not only inspired the ones sitting in the audience on the day of your speech, but for many future engineers. I'm setting my sights on Atlanta, and I cannot wait to be a Ramblin' Wreck.
@@조재호-v1p Oh god. Completely forgot about this comment. Turns out I went the legal path and now I'm in law school! Life takes interesting twists and turns. Lmao
Wow, rock star. Gotta say, I'm going to be on the lookout for a flying suit of armor over the Georgia Tech neck 'o the woods in the near future. Chances are, Nick will be on his way to his Gwyneth Paltrow-like girlfriend's house. Outstanding job, Nick.
Until the camera faced the audience I realized I expected to see many nerdy white boys, but I just noticed so many Asians. I'm not racist or anything. I'm actually a Kpop fan so that shows I'm not.
It wouldnt be racism anyways... Racism is somehow declaring one race to be superior to another. But by trying to nail the point in that you are not racist, you might infact be hiding the fact that you are.
Ryan Quinn Not really. I've been on TH-cam long enough to know that it doesn't work like that here. You should watch more videos and read comments to see what I mean.
What rocks: being the guy that conceives of and delivers a speech like this.
What sucks: being the poor bastard that has to speak after him.
It was the provost, LOL!
There was no way that the Sign Language interpreter was able to put enough emphasis in her signs to fully indicate the power behind that lol
