- Georgia Tech Sophomore Nick Selby gave incoming freshmen 10 tips for success. This is the full version of a welcome speech with an epic ending that is going viral. This speech was given at Georgia Tech Convocation on August 18, 2013.

I am a college speech professor, and I am showing this speech to my classes on the first day.! Good stuff
My lecturer played this video during my first day at class … it inspired me throughout my studies and I’m forever grateful what GT has taught me. Seriously this is a great institution, second to none.
This is why people come to the US universities, it's the place of inspiration, innovation, creativity, hard work and making it happen!
I remember my freshmen convocation was nowhere near this badass.

I didn’t end up getting into GT after being waitlisted & rejected, and getting rejected again after reapplying the year after, BUT I’ve now graduated from CS @ UIUC and am working as a software engineer, loving my job! I’ve come to learn that where you go to school doesn’t matter much, as long as you put in the dedication to learn, improve, and always strike to achieve more. To whoever sees this comment, I wish you good luck, and don’t stress yourself out, no matter where you go, you’ll be just fine!
This guy makes me want to go to Georgia Tech. "I am going to build the Iron Man suit"... I've been wanting to do that too. He has such charisma, energy, and passion. It's so nice seeing someone like that in school.
I loved the promotional clip from this that they showed during the Georgia Tech - Duke football game yesterday, complete with motto "You Can Do That". Wonderful job Nick, and well done GT!
Applied to Tech this year. Hopefully I will watch this video after the results in March!

Oh it is so refreshing to see a young person that has some drive, intelligence, and that is well spoken.

I saw a bit of this on the morning news today and wanted to follow it up here. I enjoyed it! What amazed me was the number of nonplussed reactions there were to it. Passion and spirit are something to exalt not denigrate. When I looked into the eyes of Ayrton Senna I saw intensity. What I saw in Pat Tillman's eyes was focused energy. When I heard Nick Selby's speech he reminded me of them.

To Daniel Timbs - this kid is doing a speech to inspire the incoming freshman and having them be glad to be at GA Tech. Those same students have parents there PAYING for this education. This was engaging, charming, full of insight beyond most 19-year-olds and brilliantly done. I wish he were my son. And, I'm guessing, Gwyneth Paltrow is really, really flattered.

Huh. I start my junior year in high school next week, meaning I have to end my summer and start looking at colleges, and this actually made me excited to spend 1-2 years writing college essays and taking SATs. I never thought I'd say that, and during summer no less. Man, what a great speech. :)

There are people that make things happen, people that watch things happen and there are people that wonder what happened. Those who make negative comments are in the special group that wont make anything happen because they are unwilling to take chances themselves so they make themselves feel better by commenting on those that make things happen. They can however change and make things happen!

In high school we were challenged to present a speech to inspire. Nick did it! Did you see the smile on the guy over his left shoulder (the one who might be a significant part of the upper echelon on the university)? Did you notice that he did not stand behind the podium using cue cards? Did you notice that he made eye contact all over the place? Did you notice that he moved and put the mic in both hands and used gestures? Did you notice he used humor?
Care if he graduates? He'll do well!
that was the whole point of this video getting admissions by showing some awesome stuff that rarely occur

I went to Ga Tech and this is exactly how I felt when I graduated.
The theme was written as the introduction to a much longer work, which was inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's philosophical treatise of the same name.
However, even after all its use in everything from epic meditations on the future of humanity to the introduction of new commercial products; it still carries quite an impact.
