56 yo disabled vet (Iraq 2006) Snowboarding has changed my entire life. I'm one of the oldest women I know riding in summit county, CO. I watch films and go try what I think I've learned. Full body protection has kept me from dying. A few cracks and pops later, I'm 16 days into our season. Just rode two storm days and my legs are like jelly, heart is full. Best buds out there are the young guys/grrls. They watch out for me and help. We don't leave our own behind. Love is in the air. Full-speed ahead! Thanks for the film, it's beyond words.
This is amazing. I’m a disabled vet as well (Afghanistan 2012) snowboarding has changed my life as well since getting out of service. I love to hear this and hope your season is starting off good!
It's not about the celebrities of boarding. It's about that feeling you get going down that run, that back country, everything that changed your view on the world. It's about the freedom you feel on that board.
Im sitting here 3rd week of June sitting in my shed in a chair just inside the door watching the rain come down watching this with one hand on one of my boards... Snowboarding has been a driving force in my life since Christmas of 1989 when I got by first board. I get emotional thinking about snowboarding because it's given me such a connection to the earth and it cleans my soul when I get out and ride. When Craig says he will probably snowboard forever I truly think he is up in heaven somewhere with Jake and Tom riding powder together forever.
RIP Craig Kelly. What you did for snowboarding will never be forgotten. "There is a peace in the silence of the backcountry, There is a beauty in the white of the greatest peaks, There is a serenity in the carving of winter's bounty, There is an awe in the levity of our farthest leaps, To those who know such elation, Is bestowed the greatest gift, To know the sensation, Of riding adrift, The most beautiful of God's creation, A land of exploration and wintry pleasure, Where snowboarding holds our deepest admiration, Always and forever." This goes out to all snowboarders, let's keep this sport alive and better than ever.
Watching this in 2021. 41 years old, new to snowboarding. Can barely make turns but I'm getting there. Thanks to these pioneers. This film was well made. Thank you!
As soon as I heard "it all started with ny little board" a wave of emotions flooded me and I cant stop crying. I am so greatful to have grown up in a time and place with my parents in a position to take me to the ski hill when I was 7 ever since then snowboarding has been my expression of joy. Maybe its cause my dad just died and it was his love that brought the mountains into my life. Maybe its cause snowboarding is the only thing in my life that I will choose to do till I die. Maybe it has more to do with how beautiful it is to be so free in the mountains and the skills, life lessons and friendships I have made through the bond we have. Maybe its all of that and so much more I cant explain. I know I will never forget, and the love will never die as there is nothing more peaceful and satisfying to me than being in the mountains with family and friends sliding on the soft pillowy freshness that is snowboard life. Thank you for reading this...
M Nice choices. A have a few boards myself but the blunt is so friendly to jumping around the mountains and hitting the park, it’s hard not to stay with it everytime I go out.
Im 35 and ive recently got into snowboarding and after looking at all the companies I realized Burton loves vets and appreciate them so much we get a discount! Thank you to everyone who took part in inventing this sport! Burton forever..
This documentary seriously brought me to literal tears. I fell in love with this sport only a month ago and I still remember the first time I was able to actually ride. The joy and that feeling, truly indescribable. I had no idea any of the history behind it and it makes me so happy to now know. I may have only started a month ago but after my 4th day ever I bought my new set up because I realized that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life. I'm planning on going to CU Boulder for college and all I want is to be a pro. If I can't I want to be that snowboarder that kids look up to in the ski resort who's absolutely shredding and making the entire resort there playground.
I have been snowboarding since 1992 and I just got the recent pleasure of teaching my youngest how to ride last week. This movie was a greats trip down memory lane. Truly a great film.
Im old enough that i did actually own a snurfer in my youth and i started snowboardng when Sorels were still widely considered the best boots avail. .. so i appreciate seeing this ... Its still hard to believe it took so long for snowboarding to reach where it is today...
Rip more often and _Avoid the Internet_. It will prove to be more trouble than it's worth, especially at your age. Some day you will understand what i mean (and i'ts totally fine now if u think i'm just being a kooky "adult").
My dad taught me to ride when I was 9. He started riding on one of the OG sims boards. Now at 50 he is still riding sims. Not as often or nearly as hard. But snowboarding is something that means so much to me, and to him. You don’t have to worry about anything up there. With some good friends or by yourself. It’s the greatest place on earth. I try to introduce as many people to it as possible.
I'm 44 yo and have been riding since I was 10. To this day there's nothing else that I enjoy more than sliding down the mountain. The vybe and serenity you get is as good as it gets. It's cool to see the roots on screen, the roots that I grew up with. I wish younger generations of snowboarders would watch this to learn where the sport has came from. Also stoked to see dayglo and swallow tails back on the slopes
I am at a loss for words, what you people did and what all snowboarders have done for themselves and for the progression of the sport is truly beautiful. Society rejected it, we persevered and proved to the world that the feeling you can get from riding on the snow with a plank and some straps can turn into one of the most amazing feelings out there. Thank you so much everybody at Burn for making this. This is a beautiful piece of art.
Amazing documentary. It takes me back to when I was a young 80's kid.. As a US northeast skateboarder and skier, hoping and waiting for snowboarding to become accessible to my friends and me, I remember wearing Sorel boots to ride, not being allowed at ski resorts, and riding snow covered backyards and golf courses--building jumps and carving hay-bail quarters and halfpipes with shovels. Those early beefs served as motivation--a competition that drove everyone to do great things, push boundaries, and evolve.. much like space exploration. Without Jake, Phil, Chuck, Terry, Palmer, Craig Kelly, Terje, Tina Basich, and countless others, who knows where we'd be without them. They all shaped the activity of snowboarding in positive ways and formed what we have today. To this day, snowboarding is the funnest activity I have ever done. Thank you to all the pioneers and progressers of snowboarding, no matter who you are. You have given me, and many others, a gift to always cherish.
i'm skier and i did watch the whole movie, and liked it alot! just because you are skier it doesn't mean that you don't like "The story of snowboarding" - good job with the movie!
I absolutely enjoyed this documentary. I just did a snowboarding trip with my kids at Mammoth. The moments/memories with kids was amazing. If it was not for these pioneers of this awesome sport, I would not know what else would I rather be doing. Life is short, shread on my fellow boarders!!!
My wife and I just jumped on snowboards for the first time last month! Loved it and our snowboards just got delivered today. Happy to be on the boards these pioneers made. Truly thank you for all of what you did. It’s pure joy for us both
Snowboarding changed my life. As a kid I hated sports. Then, on a cold February day during a school trip I strapped into a snowboard and managed to link turns on the very first day. RIP to the riders lost in that avalanche and so much love for KP, I know this Doc is a bit old but this really hit home when it comes to describing just how special of a sport snowboarding is. Hope every one has great seasons to come!
This movie just nails it! I got all emotional seeing Tom Sims footage from the 70's. RIP Tom Sims. Great to see the credits to Sherman Poppen as the grandpa of snowboarding. Thx Burn!
Life without snowboarding is no life. Thank you to those people who have and do make snowboarding what it is. Freedom, peace, fun, passion, joy and happiness, memories, friends and so much more...
I remember Tom Sims from high school in NJ. He and his friends would make their own skateboards back in the very early 70's. They called skateboarding "birding" though. I remember Tom's father really seeing the commercial potential way back then. Tom was known for his drawing and cartoons as well...talented guy.

Had the Craig Kelly Burton and Sims Halfpipe. Was so into this that I moved to Big Bear Lake my 2nd year riding and worked at Snow Summit so I could ride a lot more. Good Times!🔥
Iam a Mexican immigrant lives in Leadville Colorado for more then 25 years this vid brings a lot of nostalgia makes me more appreciative to have grown up here and the mountains cant beat the feeling of snowboarding

What a movie, taking you through 35 years of snowboarding history, with its highlights and drama! Amazing what this sport has gone through... Special cheers to Regis Rolland, who entertained so many teenagers in France with the Apocalypse Snow series! Great job
Great documentary and I think captured what it was like to be in the middle of the snowboard lifestyle. I live in Breckenridge 94-98 and rode and friends with so many that are now considered legends. At the time there was definitely a feeling that we were involved in a new movement of just living life to ride. Great days and many memories.
YES!!! the next year I put a Burton elite 150 on layaway...then finally got it. The next year I traded it for a Cruzer..what a mistake! then I sold it and bought a Sims Kidwell never looked back!!! still have it! All cracked..I have lugged that shit for 35 years!!!! Hell yeah!!! still love that board!
Amazing video. I've been snowboarding for two years and never been happier. The freedom the sport gives you is why we do it and thats why its so damn awesome

I am so thankful for watching this movie!
Amazing how our sport we all love has grown. From one man keeping his kids entertained and now it's enjoyed by millions.. Happy shredding
They all did it out of passion and love.. respect!
I can't wait to watch the next snowboard documentary in ten years. That's the beauty with snowboarding, the fun never stops.
Thank you for making this available for free.
Great documentary and I think captured what it was like to be in the middle of the snowboard lifestyle. I live in Breckenridge 94-98 and rode and friends with so many that are now considered legends. At the time there was definitely a feeling that we were involved in a new movement of just living life to ride. Great days and many memories.
this film just says one thing: go out, ride and have fun no matter what others think! *Masterpiece* :)
