+Noskeal Well put! I don't even know _what_ this movie is about, but I'm only 2 minutes in and already hooked. This cinematography is on the same level as *_Terence fucking Mallick_*. And that's saying something... What's crazy is...the opening shots of this focus entirely on the Winter Temperate Forest ecosystem. Imagine if this same film crew shot _every_ ecosystem on earth? Jungles, the arctic, deserts, tundra, coral reefs, mountain ranges, etc. And why not add human ecosystems to the mix....aboriginal tribes, small villages, cities, and mega metropolises. I know Planet Earth and other docs have done this before....but there's just something truly special about the opening scenes of _this_ movie; the lack of narration, the perfectly suited music, and of course the gorgeous cinematography. I'd pay to see this same film crew make sans-narration docs on any other subject. I'm just kind of in awe at how good this is.... :)
Think he more so was in the market for a shorter, more concise clip. It's not unreasonable to consider something an hour long "too long" to command your attention
Watched it right now with my wife who has broken her lower leg 3x 2 weeks ago during skiing. Tomorrow the whole family is going for a week of skiing... 😆
The first time I heard about Candide was when I was about 10 years old. I rented a VHS of the 1999 Winter Gravity Games and Candide won the Big Air competition against Johnny Mosley (who is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met) I was absolutely floored by Candide. I rented that VHS more times than I could count… in fact if I remember right, the rental shop had a deal where if you rented a VHS more than 20 times, you could keep it… and I think we still have it somewhere at my step mom’s house. Though I ended up snowboarding, Candide has been one of my biggest influences for wanting to get into snow sports, and now I’m a member of snowmaking leadership for a major resort in Colorado. THANK YOU CANDIDE!!!
Film is ridiculously good. I'm not a boarder but I love how they gave props to the boarders. They were looking for something different and found it. Film also captures the emotional barrage of happiness I get when I ski. Sound track is great too...thanks for this film!!!
Not just the greatest skier ever. One of the greatest athletes ever too. He deserves so much respect, and comparison to all the other "greatest at their sports". But watching Candide spreads more joy for me than any winner of the 100m, Tour de France or whatever else you care to name. Perhaps Messi, at his most magical, did things so absurd that he made the world laugh with pure elation. Candide is like that. Watching him is a pleasure. It makes anyone feel great.
I definitely consider him the Messi of skiing. Nobody else has ever made what they do look so natural. He should be more widely known, but considering he doesn’t do public stuff it’s not really surprising.
I was just comparing Candide to Messi in my mind haha Only these 2 men ever made me emotional watching them create and perform. Both their movements seems so insync with nature. I could spot a Messi dribble from a mile away and same with a Candide line... I can just spot him even if he's skiing straight. Only these two make this a religious experience for me and nobody else. I've watched this video atleast 2-3 dozen times just like I've watched some of Messi's. You can't explain them.. just experience them.

I’m a snowboarder, your creativity on the mountain definitely defines you, Candide defines freestyle skiing. My skiing friends finds it amusing I talk about Candide. 2 years before Candids accident, I crushed a vertebrae when a cornice broke on me . Candide in my opinion is the most superhero-like of any skier ever. 8 years ago this film was an expression of futuristic skiing and 8 years later it still is.
He is genius, and I am not easily impressed. He has authentic style, there is freedom in how he skies. I think he is one of greatest and inspirational skiers.
I grew up watching Greg Stump films featuring Scott Schmitt, Glen Plake and Kevin Andrews but I still can remember the first time I saw Candide take the techniques he mastered in the park and bring them to the backcountry and I knew he was the future of skiing.
Was 13 minutes in and was about to click away but I decided to read the comments. After looking I decided I would give it 5 more minutes and suddenly I'm at the end of the video. I got so hooked time flew by. Best ski video I've ever seen.
I grew up in the era of Scott Schmidt and Glenn Plake, and what they were dong was amazing. Watching what people can do now with these new skis is unFUCKINGbelievable. And these guys are doing the same bad ass drop-offs onto pillows and everything but now their doing back flips and all that. Wow, things have changed.
I remember being at the pipe at "Les deux Alpes", summer 2005, lot of pros were there because it's almost the only place where you can ski during the summer in France, so you can imagine the level was already very high on the spot but at the end of the morning Candide arrived, alone ! first thing I thought was "damn he is small", then he destroooooyed the pipe with mindblowing amplitude for the time, everybody was shocked lol, it was like twice higher than all the best riders we saw before, almost supernatural.
What's crazy about the film is it builds the mystic of Candide without him actually narrating or even talking on the film. I love the end when he falls on the pond and then does his little dance at end of bridge, again only adding to the mystic and gives him that playful yet not taking himself too seriously even though what he does is totatlly whacked for most and completely from the heavens when you watch and out of reach for 99.9% of humans.
This is one of the best ski movies! I've watched this sooooooooo many times. If everyone could ski like this, the world would be much happier. He is just pure poetry in motion.
Think that’s the zillionth time I’ve watched this. Really captures the freedom of being up there with your friends. Nothing like it. Amazing soundtrack visuals everything! 👏
Myself a very mediocre skier who sticks mainly to blue/ red slopes with occasional black one very slowly and painfully. To watch such talent, Candide is so one with the nature, the freedom he exudes and shares with us. I can only view these splendid landscapes through his lens. I am in awe of such abilities and freedom and fun! Formidable et surtout merci pour ce très beau film. Cet homme est un vrai ressort: he takes a tumble and springs back. If I fall into powder, you’ll have to wait for snow to melt in spring to see me again😅. Such agility. Beautiful and inspiring.

I really dont understand, why some disliked that film. Its so amazing to watch this
I love this film
The beginning 0:00 - 7:00 of this video wasn't a skiing video it was really good snow porn which I enjoyed immensely!
Oui vraiment belle musique

Me too I could die to live in some of the snowfield settings cause I think I can ski like that in my mind
brad flynn No need to get all philosophical on us damn lol
@brad flynn Porn is destructive and scarring? Wat? xD
I really appreciate the honesty of skiers who said that this style of riding was inspired from watching the snowboarders
Thanks.. it really came from the heart. I loved how much snowboarding was affecting how we saw things then.
Btw... I’m Skye , the skier that said it in the movie
Les images sont parfaites
Le scenario du film est prenant
La musique est "on track"
Le ski est pur...
Perfection !
Ive surfed for 40 years, and this guy got me so fired up to go bigger!
Right on Brother. Stoked!
^ Has anybody heard from this guy since?
Wow, I was enjoying so much watching this... Amazing guy, amazing skill.
Im a snowboarder and surfer and this is equally the best sporting docco ever!! I recently have seen that he's a big wave skier now 🤯
Il l'a tellement bien réussi ce petit film ... C'est terrible !
Think that’s the zillionth time I’ve watched this. Really captures the freedom of being up there with your friends. Nothing like it. Amazing soundtrack visuals everything! 👏
47:20 Best part! AWESOME!
i recon the jam session on the step up was soooo sick, what skiings all about :)
