No one enjoys missing land drops, but at the same time it’s good to see honest, organic game play in a time when there is a lot of artificial, entertainment-focused content out there. Thanks for keeping it real, Muddstah!
Excellent showcase not just of how powerful Bello is, but also the biggest weakness. He's not that difficult to keep off board with most casual removal, and doing so takes away 80% of whatever made the boardstate scary. Frustrating when it happens back to back, but it's nice having to work for it. No need for fully solved commanders.
Hey, just wanted to note, you seem to have misunderstood how Expend works: It's not "when you cast a spell of mana value 8 or higher," it's "when you use your 8th mana on a spell." Meaning that on turn 4 (4:22), that Gilded Lotus + Esika's Chariot play (expending 9 mana in total) would've been able to return Terramorphic Expanse. (As annanicholas1889 pointed out, that may have been an illegal move, but just wanted to point out the mechanic regardless.) Additionally, on turn 6 (7:57), casting Dictate of the Twin Gods + Kodama of the East Tree (11 mana in total) would've also triggered Expend 8. I'm glad you're having fun with Bello, it does look like you're hitting your stride here ^^ I also agree with your analysis on Finneas, it's possible the deck simply can't accelerate fast enough, or that the reward from Finneas simply isn't worth the hassle relative to other go-wide commanders. But given how WOTC likes to design their sets, it's possible we'll be getting a bunch of rabbits in Death Race or something that could help bolster that playstyle.
At 4:22 you casted gilded lotus for 4 mana instead of the 5 it costs, so you shouldn't have had mana for the Esika's chariot on that turn. I don't know how that may have changed the result of the game, but I felt it was worth pointing out. That said, that Bello deck seems SO fun. Maybe I have to build it myself ^-^
@@thengine7 Bello is easily countered by spot removal, enchantment exiling effects (which have become increasingly common), bounce effects, and he's very slow. A commander like Voja can kill the entire table faster *and* has ward 3. Ellivere also gives a ton of card draw while also turning mana dorks exponentially stronger with every turn cycle, and unlike Bello or Voja HAS seen cEDH play. On top of that, unlike the other two, Bello has practically nothing to block with on the crack back. All of his opponents were either playing slow decks or missed multiple land drops; almost any deck is going to look insane when your opponents are 1-2 turns behind like that.
Tamiyo costs one, makes clues which can lead to the third and fourth land drops, and he still had a piece of playable interaction. The keep wasn't that risky.
Except you couldn't even crack the clues without a second land. It was incredibly risky as you saw in the video. It would have been a much safer keep if he had a two land hand. Don't rely on top decks!@@MomirsLabTech
@@MomirsLabTech it was an absolutely horrible keep. His commander has card draw at 1 cmc he could conservatively keep a 4 or 5 as long as he had 2 lands and catch back up. He can play the game on 2 mana but not 1.
Bro, Desmond literally kept a 1 land hand, lmao. What's even crazier is that by turn 4, when he played his second land and the farseek, somehow no one else had more lands than him.
@@hiddenleaf414 only a 6.93 chance if you only have 1 leyline in the deck. OP was talking about the possibility of having one of you run all 7 of them
Bello is so good 😂 You need VERY SPECIFIC boardwipes to stop it and/or constantly remove bello during combat, which is easier said than done with all the protection in green 😂
Yeah, Bello is a LOT stronger than most commanders nowadays. Definitely have to kill on sight. One or two connects with it's indestructible minions means Bello will pull super far ahead.
yeah insanely lame design on wotcs end for a gruul commander. Either bully him off the table and the bello player literally does nothing the entire game or you let him live and die in 2 turns.
already knew bello was gonna win before watching. kinda have to bully him off the table or you just lose. was an alright game, wanted to see more of zoraline though.
Cant help it but slowly Bello bores me. He overtakes the game almost every single timei see him and its pretty predictable. Playing him myself is fun but seeing/playing against him, got a bit old. But maybe its an unpopular opinion
I've not had enjoyable games with Bello. Indestructible AND card draw the turn it comes in? Insanely power pushed. MTG made a mistake in printing it. Unless you are able to hold up single target removal for when bello comes in, the game runs away quickly.
yeah he's a design mistake tbh. what it comes down to is using removal 24/7 on bello so you dont die, but then the bello player does nothing bc their deck is just full of ass 4 cmc and above enchantments ( most of the time damage doublers) that dont do anything without him. even had multiple buddies excited for him and tried a few games with him before taking him apart.
The quality of videos would drastically increase if players were encouraged to not take ridiculously risky hands. Some people click these videos to see a commander they're interested in and it would be a real bummer if that the person playing that commander took a one land hand...

100% - great design
Desmond learned, the hard way, that you shouldn't keep a hand that does nothing if you don't topdeck a land.
Sometimes, you have to believe in the Dream

Bello is definitely power pushed. Indestructible AND card draw? That's insane. It's a kill on sight commander, or lose the game.

Valley Rotcaller did a lot of work for me in prerelease. I’m not surprised it did work in this game too.
Everyone talking about Bello being good, but Tamiyo really kept a 1 land hand...
With no plan to find or draw a second land either!

For me Bello must be naya because it's sad not use white enchantments. May in the future I make a deck with Bello :)
A proper Gruul finish!
Nice quick game! 😁

Two separate players keeping one land opening hands (I know Eric had an MDFC but that comes in tapped) with no way to find another one is insane.
bello is one of the more pushed commanders we had recently (i say as someone who also plays it)
Bello decklist? Love it
Dictate scares me. Bello is usually vulnerable on opponents turns and dictate could really backfire
I'd love to see your Bello build :)
OKAY, BUT LIKE ERIC ALSO KEPT A ONE LANDER 😂
My favourite play with Bello is Leylines. With the new one coming out in Duskmourn, it's 7 leylines, so 35% in the opener
How is that a 35% chance of having a leyline in the opening hand? Isn’t that a 6.93% chance?

Still waiting for that Bella deck list 😢
Bello list where
all bello lists are the same so shouldnt need one.

Some of the appeal of these vids are the authenticity. Sometimes players take risky hands, and sometimes it doesn't work.
