New to EVs. What a fun car the I5N. I drive 14 miles total per day to work and back (mostly highway). Average about 1.8m/kWh. I get anxiety at around 50% and throw it on our towns only DC charger, 50kWh, and use the time to just walk around and get some exercise. Waiting for an electrician to install a level2 charger at home.
Remember the ICE performance cars where the EPA range is actually realistic? This is one of those. You buy this car because you love driving without regard to mpg, and refuel when you have to. But EV version. Doesn’t work if you are stressed by having too little chargers where you live. For me it works, 97% is drive less than 150 miles per day, on long trips I already have the habit to stop every two hours for a proper break, the fatique otherwise gets me at the destination anyway. And people are so focused on range, but what if you have to charge? Then this one is fast, ~20min vs ~40min of most other EVs is the difference between a well needed break and driving of, and activity having to W A I T for the car to finish... And usually I bring my kids on long trips, this is one of the few cars that combines being both a great driver's car and family car at once, most people underestimate both the performance and the practicality/size of this car. Ironically this car has pretty good endurance when driven HARD, because it always puts large amounts of electrons back in the battery when braking thanks to being the most accesible 800V platform, and it does it without overheating. /Very, very happy owner
But the most important question is left unanswered: will it pass the Columbia Inn pizza oven rear interior 110v outlet compatibility test? I am in Northern New Jersey (sadly without either of my eGMP cars) right now, and need to know if it is worth the drive to get THE OVEN!
I am interested in the Ioniq5, but I don't need "the spicy version". I drive the most boring way possible, but would appreciate the ability to shift the regenerative braking to move between coasting, slowing down for a turn, and braking. I think I'm slowly getting an idea of what i want, but most cars have all "the bells and whistles" whereas i just want an economy package (no need for high tech, high horsepower, or high performance) with super fast DCFC charging for the few road trips I do.
Self delusion is wonderful. That delusion will be instantly shattered at a stop light when the N is next to you. You are not going to be able to keep up to 60 and all the while at legal speeds.
My S2000 gets 200 miles to the tank. Less than 100 on track. Most motorcycles have very little range yet people drive them across the country all the time. For some reason as soon as a battery is involved everyone moves the goal posts. 200 miles in a performance vehicle is plenty. Sure, more would be better, but literally zero people refused to buy an S2000 because of its highway range.
Out west highway speeds are more like 80-90mph. I wonder how that extra speed would affect the range? Just give all EVs range extenders. It would alleviate so much range anxiety for road trips.
I know this isn’t going to be a very popular post, but I have the Ioniq 6RWD, and after a few months, I have pretty much completely stopped paying any attention to the range estimates that the car gives me. I do my own calculations in my head based on my personal experience And a spreadsheet I created that maps current range to the mi/kWh instrument reading. Based on my experience, the spreadsheet is highly accurate at predicting how far I can go at 3.6 mi/kWh vs 2.6 (for example). IMHO, the range estimates in the car are too slow at picking up different changes in conditions and are frequently not accurate enough for my peace of mind.
PS. This is the formula I used to make my spreadsheet. It’s pretty simple-minded, but it’s a more useful than the one in the car for me anyway: Miles remaining = mi/kWh * (percent battery charge * 77.4)
Damn that’s nice!! my ionic 5 is pretty fast but the N I see is even faster 🙆🏽♂️ I can get my speed up like 0 to 60mph under 5 seconds like it’s rated at 4.5 seconds which is not bad at all
I was towing a trailer with my 2019 Ioinq EV and was hoping when i hit 0% i would have had 1 km left to get home.... but nope.. Hit 0% and she died almost instantly. not even enough time to pull off the road.
I own this car. Nobody drives 70moh on highway. Where I live 80-85 mph is real. HUGE mileage decrease versus 70mph. The N is a Toy around town. Beyond that you will be calling a flatbed to come pick you up. Especially out here in vegas we have almost no chargers.
It is almost impossible to sustain more than 75 mph in parts of the North East because of speed traps and traffic. You are lucky to average 60 mph from DC to Philadelphia.
Which Vegas are you talking about? Definitely not the one in Nevada, or you're just a troll. Anyone who's been there recently, or just check with PlugShare, can see there's chargers everywhere in Vegas. There are also EV's everywhere in Vegas. That would not be the case with the "almost no chargers" you're claiming.
Sorry guys, to me this is an absolute Fail!! Let me tell you. The range anxiety is REAL!! No one is going to drive a car from 100% to 0%. Or from Full to Empty. Unless you like living on the edge and you're leasing the car and you do not care about battery health. This is potentially bad for any EV battery long term. Just as fast charging can be bad for battery health. I have no experience with Hyundai. However, if battery types are similar. Tesla recommends only charging to 80% for daily use and discharge down to only 20%. Not 0%. Now, 80%-20% is only 60% of daily/frequent usable battery. Applying quick math this to "N" model and thats 60% of 232 miles or 140 miles. Then take about 18 minutes to FAST charge at a 300kwh or higher charger if you can find one that is functional. But 18mins?! Thats enough time for 6 fill ups in my 22 year old Camry. Yes only 3 minutes from low fuel warning to full tank. EPA says my Camry does 370 city or 518 hwy on 22 year old tech. My observered mileage is 247/411. Then, to there is a gas station every 2 miles and 30 gas stations within a 2 mile radius of my home. I have zero range anxiety. Trust me i want an electric car. When they are ready. Right now it makes more sense to get a 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid that gets 50+ mpg for $29k. Then get prepaid scheduled service contract for $5k or less. Combined with Hyundai's 10yr/100k warranty. All that and still be thousands below the cheapest new Ioniq 5 ($39k). Hybrids still make more sense than EV in my opinion. When EV battery tech approaches being 50% smaller and lighter, yet yielding 1,000 miles plus on a charge. Then to capable of say 500k charge cycles. Dreamworld? Yes. But the dreamworld is where I'll buy an EV.
