I love how in a lot of his songs the lyrics don’t follow a natural count, they still seem to flow but they also disrupt the idea the listener has in their mind of when a verse will stop. It’s amazing
Once Evan described Pinegrove as a mix of Americana and math rock. That’s probably a good description of why he’s off the beaten path with time signatures. It’s one of my favorite elements of their music!
Please tell that to Marc Hogan! pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/pinegrove-marigold/ He gave this album a 6.6/10 and basically called it boring and unrelatable... T^T
That Marc Hogan writer who reviewed this album on Pitchfork truly spoke WAY too soon when he smeared it as an unrelatable album with a rating of 6.6/10. This song and the album was made for 2020.
Reminds me of walking down the street in the backroads of Olympia, Washington. Nobody else around, the sun shining through the tall evergreens and a spring rain. Just breathing and not feeling like I had to make a choice about anything except just breathing and existing.
This is so incredibly beautiful; the music, the cinematography. I wish to create something with only a fraction of this beauty. This gives me a sense of hope and appreciation I haven’t felt in a long time. Your music makes me feel heard. Thank you all for everything you have done.
Watched this in 1.5 playback speed by accident and just assumed the “acoustic” version was a faster jam. 🙌🏻 cool video!! Can’t wait for live shows again.
Even though they say some pretty deep messages in their music at the end, most can be very uplifting I’ve noticed. One of the many things I love about Pinegrove. ❤️ This video depicts exactly what the words are trying to say. I’m glad they did it this way! The end will be better despite our challenges. Keep pushing!
Is life kicking up dust right now? Has life given up for you right now as well? O what is life giving us? I wake up & feel totally the same I woke up the same as yesterday With no news of any kind The long morning, the wide afternoon & Then night could be coming soon too But when it finally does It's endless It's endless But it's an honor to feel this way To feel the color of the longest day Cuz it's a shadow that many know & Well it's feeling pretty bad to me But i don't think it goes on endlessly But the horizon's lifting away from me & It seems Endless Endless When this is over When this under A foot of water Hold me forever Hold me forever When this is under When this is over Hold me forever When this is over When this under A foot of water Hold me forever Hold me forever When this is under When this is over Hold me forever
Quick Theory: The nut in the video are the Pinenuts longing towards Evan after the hiatus. Waiting and watching to see what he will do. And he can't bear to turn to look at them because he doesn't know how they will react. But then the squares on the trees remind us they we are all united even when from different angles we look far apart
@UCpb7goYv1T9qWHuBhkQ_O5Q this is literally what this band has always sounded like. fuck off. you’ll miss a lot of brilliant things in life by being stuck in that kind of a mindset

The 2020 Theme Song...When this is over
Hold me forever
Definitely. It’s taken on even more meaning and power under the current (shitty) circumstances.
FACT!

That is a good line.
So freaking powerful 😭

Is life kicking up dust right now?
Has life given up for you right now as well?
O what is life giving us?
I wake up & feel totally the same
I woke up the same as yesterday
With no news of any kind
The long morning, the wide afternoon
& Then night could be coming soon too
But when it finally does
It's endless
It's endless
But it's an honor to feel this way
To feel the color of the longest day
Cuz it's a shadow that many know
& Well it's feeling pretty bad to me
But i don't think it goes on endlessly
But the horizon's lifting away from me
& It seems
Endless
Endless
When this is over
When this under
A foot of water
Hold me forever
Hold me forever
When this is under
When this is over
Hold me forever
When this is over
When this under
A foot of water
Hold me forever
Hold me forever
When this is under
When this is over
Hold me forever

It must suck going through life missing amazing songs because you’re worried about what genre they might fall into.
