►About the Game -
After several incidents of wetting the sheets, Timi, a boy of 4 years old, has learned to coexist with presences that only he can see. But unfortunately, his parents do not believe what he claims to see and only wish that his overactive imagination -something utterly normal at his age would stop feeding what they call "simple irrational fears".
In the middle of the night, when his parents decide to go out and leave Timi in the care of his older teenage sister, he will have to face a new and terrifying adventure, but this time it will be much more intense than usual. It could even be the last one.
Nocturia is a first-person game that, by placing us at the height of a child, confronts us with another level of difficulty, in the middle of darkness and having to overcome surprising events, with creepy sightings and strange sounds that will make our nerves stand on end.
You must be very observant to overcome all the challenges that the game imposes on us.
To accomplish the mission, there will be several elements that will become our best allies.

At first I was perplexed as to why the POV when you were on the counter made you seem really tiny, more or less infant sized… Once you went out side and started picking up dead birds and playing in the sandbox, it made sense. You’re actually playing as a cat.
I think it's actually can make a better story and mechanic. Like "Stray" but horror
So according to the newspaper articles (complete with pictures supplied by the brigade of nowhere), Ethan's nanny suffered from an undiagnosed mental disorder. She became abusive, frequently beating Ethan until one day she accidentally killed him in the bathroom. Four years later, our little hero's fear of being punished for bedwetting awakened Ethan's spirit. The doll represented the nanny, hence why we saw it as a threatening monster.
In the end, Ethan's ghost led us to the lunchbox he'd hidden. Inside were drawings and blood. The police were able to use DNA from the blood to implicate the nanny and she later confessed and was found guilty on all charges.
I agree the lighting needed to be a bit better, and that may be what prevents this from being Chris's GotY. With the amount of moonlight and the bloom coming from streetlights outside, there's no reason for the house to be that dark. I'd say double the brightness from its current max and that should be just about perfect. As for the prompt timing, it's understandable, but FEELS random and leads to a lot of pixel hunting. I think simple a line of dialogue here and there could have fixed it, such as "I need to get up there" when examining the island so signal the stool is now usable.

Second, I congratulate you for your patience and for managing to complete the game with so few hints; you might be the first to do so. I also commend your community; I've read a significant portion of the comments, and the vast majority of them are very constructive and respectful, which is not seen often nowadays ❤.
"Nocturia" still needs many improvements, and many of the things you mentioned during the gameplay and in the comments are included in the upcoming updates☝. We are new to this, and we have much to learn. I've enjoyed watching you play and have taken note of the mistakes to make "Nocturia" a better game. Thank you for playing☺.
PS: The part with the bird and peeing was just a coincidence, sorry 😅😂. One can pee right when they step into the yard and see the grass; it looked very disturbing, and it was not our intention at all, haha.

Honestly vongrats on at least attempting to make a game about the exact thing that terrified me when going to the bathroom at night as a kid. Still wigs me out a little bit (an intrusive imagination is a hard habit to kick) but only after I've been watching plenty of ghost videos lmao. Good luck in any improvements you try to do on it!
As frustrating as the game was, I feel it perfectly encapsulated what it is like as a toddler. The darkness of night is scary and heavy in your house, things are difficult to throw. Everything is so tedious from simply walking to reaching things. At times I think it forced us to experience that utter frustration and confusion in order to usher us into the scares. I also think the difficulty to find the batteries, the annoyance and feeling of wanting to give up but persevering was also quite childlike, and made the accomplishment of completing the task much more fulfilling. I remember very closely how I saw the world as a child and I thought that it captured the confusing, scary, and frustrating moments that dont make a lot of sense to children and even the odd choices children might make that are ridiculous to adults. I only think that it is so specific that it may not translate to others as that in a game format. They might think it's buggy or glitchy or lacking conformity. But I think to some degree games who are using children as protagonists are missing that aspect of absurdity that exists in children and how they perceive the world.

Unfortunately I think any of the work the ambience and mood was 'trying' to do was undone by just how obtuse and frustrating the gameplay was. It completely takes you out of investing in the game, and leave you just feeling like you're playing a videogame.
This game seems to check a lot of boxes for Chris. 😂
i wake up at least 5 times to go pee a night, only once have I been scared in doing so, turns out it was the cat snoring really loudly and not a ghost groaning in pain. lol
As a gentle note, friend: Peeing that often isn't usually considered normal, especially if you're younger. For me, it was a sign of diabetes that I had no clue about and once I started getting some help with that, I could sleep through the night, pee-free XD Mention it to your doctor if they're not already aware of it!

Yes, I just recently moved in with my husband and didn't know his cat snored so loud, so when I was headed to the toilet, I froze. Because I heard this low groaning and difficulty breathing in the guest bedroom. It was like 3am. I was like omg this house was haunted 👻. So froze in fear 😨 but then it was like ghost gonna have to wait. I gotta wee. But I sat in the hallway listening to this ghost (cat snoring), but I think I watch too many horror games
Lmao 🤣 can I blame CJU? No, I could never! Anyway, after a while, I said time to face this ghost flung the guest bedroom door open (naked as a Jay bird. If anything, my naked body with drool crusted face. I'd probably have terrified the ghost 👻). Walking in the room, all I could make out in the dark is an even darker spot on the guest bed. Then I realized flipped on the light, and there was my ghost. Snoring peacefully on the bed. In the end, it was the cat. But to my defence, my husband could sleep through a ghost trying to scare him. Wouldn't know if the house was haunted. He picked this place out, and as an old England home and my overactive imagination, it could have been haunted 👻.
That's my midnight wee horror story. If ever facing a ghost in the night, just say ghostie. I gotta pee first. So please 1 moment. Then face them 🤣
You have more patience than I would with this game.
The visuals made me sick
Once I saw the missing picture on the milk, my guess was the ghost kid was the one that had been abducted and was trying to warn you not to leave the house because you'd be next.
I'm fascinated to know what the devs true intentions were for the bird. Holding it as you peed surely cannot have been what it was meant for.....*surely*
Hahaha, it's terrible, but the truth is, you can pee as soon as you go out to the yard if you see the grass. The bird incident with peeing was just bad luck, and it looked incredibly weird; it wasn't our intention at all. The idea is that the bird leads you to the tree to bury it, and you find the box. It's our first game, and we have a lot to fix.
Why do some jumpscares get me like... Why! They are not meant to get me! The one that got me the most was the one when the boy was in the cupboard, that jumpscare got me jumping!
Mixed feelings about this one. I completely agree that it was way too dark and a good chunk of the game was tedious, pointless tasks that made you feel more like you were having to complete chores rather than solve puzzles. Honestly, you have the patience of a saint lol I would've quit the game in frustration trying to throw the ramen at the keys on the hook.
The storyline was decent, although it wasn't what I expected. Like when you see Ethan's name carved into the side of the slide and then found the lunchbox buried, I figured Ethan was a boy who the main character used to play with, and then something happened like an accident and MC's parents tried to cover it up for it by hiding the body and the evidence. And perhaps your character witnessed this which is why he is haunted by the monster toy found in the lunchbox that you later see in the hallways.
Some of the jump scares were good, though. With a bit of tweaking, it could be a decent game
I also found it weird how toddler can solve these puzzles, real toddler also soil their pants at that first jumpscare there already.
Apparantly Nocturia is the name of an actual condition. Funnily enough, this premise, plus Skinamarink, was a similar idea for a story I planned once. Young kid wakes up to use the bathroom at night, ends up playing hide and seek with a malevolent entity

When you opened the cupboard and exposed a million milk cartons I was thinking that the kid on the box was dead; and that you were playing as him. Also roughly same point with all the doors opening/closing/appliances turning on one thing that popped in my head was "Paranormal Activity" and sure enough by the end of the game thats what it was! Very cool!

Ohhhhhhh...this one skated dangerously close to "Terrible Indie Horror Game" status, imo.😆 Too dark, too scattered, bad mechanics, nonsensical story, grating voice acting--only CJU's commentary and love of all things excretory made it watchable for me. Thank heaven for the comic relief, in more ways than one.😂
It still have good structural design and functioning correctly (no obvious bugs like those awful games). I think the dev already got their basics correct, just need more polish.

The game has only been in early access for a month, and it's our first game. It could be much worse, haha. There's still a lot to fix, and we agree on that. We're working on it.

What a weird game! Jumpscares are solid, puzzles surreal and the fact that only a dead bird had triggered him to pee it's unusual. Anyway, it was a good production.

I know the dark is supposed to scare people, but I'll never understand making a game so dark you can't see anything.. It's just.. frustrating. Honestly, I don't think I'd have made it through the game because of the lack of being able to see. It was only at the end, having to do the puzzle to figure out the lock code, that it was interesting, and the story told in the newspapers at the end finally let us know what the hell was going on. In the end, the game was pretty good, just really annoying for the darkness and glitches.
I'm glad to see CJU has reached the level of lets play popularity where devs are now directly making games for him. 😅

I think the MC was pretty quiet. The noise was the ghosts. Which was in his head or only he could see it. The MC knocking some stuff over was Chris' gameplay and it doesn't mean it's canon. Nor does it mean his sister could hear it. 2:50 The sister was upstairs and listening to loud rock music with her door closed.
As much as you laughed about it, from this side of the video, it looks like an awesome game!

Do you think one of the developers had a bed-wetting problem when they were younger and th trauma has haunted them to this day? Seems a really weird concept to base a game on.
Bed wetting is an often misunderstood phenomenon. It's a potential sign of abuse or other traumas in smaller kids (and there are hints in the newspapers that Ethan;s death might have been the result of a potty accident). As a result, when a kid wets the bed, parents often turn to punishment instead of trying to figure out what may have caused it (beyond the usual swimming pool dream). When doing a game through the eyes of a child, this is a very real fear for someone the protagonist's age, even if it seems odd for an adult.

Have just watched the 'Come Play' movie, this has those vibes and the jumpscare at 9:50 got me.
It's a shame that the lighting is such an issue, and that the puzzles sometimes *meander* just a little bit - like while the jumpscares were great in that kitchen segment, it felt like it took WAY too long to get those keys down, and the living room area similarly felt very confusing. I agree that the story could have been a *little* clearer or had some other hints of its existence before we opened up the lunch box itself, but honestly I don't mind that for a little indie horror game, especially if the other issues had been handled.
Which is a shame, because I quite like this game otherwise! I understand what it's trying to do with the light and lack thereof, and its scares *are* very good, with its primary ghost especially being rather striking. (Can't go wrong with creepy children or strange eyes in a human figure!) The premise as well feels rather solid, because children are a uniquely vulnerable protagonist with challenges particular to them. It's interesting to see a child protag having to struggle with just the day to day stuff, like wanting to use the bathroom, but being menaced by otherworldly forces... or solving a mystery for the dead lmao.
I think if the Troncosos polish up their skills a bit more, maybe have a playtester buddy who can point out issues like the above, they'll come up with some great games in the future! Nocturia has real potential in it, after all.
This is the best thing I've read today... thank you!! We are taking note, and these gameplays and your comments are really helpful for us. We will keep updating Nocturia until it becomes an acceptable game. We are new to this, and there's still much for us to learn. Most of the comments can be quite hurtful if you're not used to this... but there are comments like this that are pure gold.
@@brosslab2024 I wish you all the luck, both with Nocturia and any other future projects! The lighting really is the biggest issue, because it's otherwise a neat game! The premise, visuals, and scares show that you have some real strong points going on over there, and it bodes well imo for future games from you, if you keep up in this line of work.
When the boy said "again" i think, the dead boy actually need help thus he keep trying to interact with the pee boy but the pee boy too scared
In a way reminds me of my toilet nightmares... whenever I need to pee but I'm in deep sleep I try to find a toilet in my dream but there's always weird obstacles I have to face and I never really get anywhere. And I keep having that dream until I get up and go pee IRL.

The story is not really confusing but, the game do bad job on presenting/ explain it to audience.

I couldn't stop laughing at peeing while holding the dead bird.
I feel as if this could have been a not-bad game, but it was so glitchy and tedious that I came within a whisker of giving up before the end. And when the end came, I only recognised it because of the credits. Meh - I have no idea what was happening. Had he been abducted? Was it a bad dream? Why did he have to wait for the sand box to have a pee? Was there a dead pet dog? Yadda, yadda, yadda.
And that's precisely why it's in Early Access.

Okay so I loooove watching horror game playthroughs, yours especially over the last year or so. But of every game you've ever played, this one triggered some kind of core nightmare memory and I actually had to stop watching to take a break in order to calm down.
The developers really nailed something special with this game. I'll never play it so THANK YOU for doing so on behalf of the rest of us viewers.

@@brosslab2024 Oh it already looks amazing, it's just...it is genuinely terrifying. I managed to get through the entire viewing but seriously had to stop in places (first hallway scare, dining room, kitchen, etc) to go and calm my heart down.
When I said I'd never play the game, I didn't mean that I wouldn't want to. I mean that I likely couldn't because I'd be shaking too badly to progress!

Looked good when you could see it, and except for some of the voice acting it sounded good too. It also had some good scares to it. Overall it had some promise but I kinda wish it was easier to understand what was going on
We are currently working on it, changing all the dialogues, making the story more bearable, and adding elements to guide the player. We hope it becomes an acceptable game. U.U

I suffered night terrors when I was a kid, it was absolutely awful for me and my family. I'd just sleep walk, if they came to my line of sight, I'd think they were a monster and scream and run off. This seems similar

GODDAM this Game! From the kids stupidly voice acted debut, to the pitch black darkness, to the endless roaming around in said darkness, to the repetitive throwing of objects at the keys, to the endless rigmarole of taking that stupid stool everywhere and laboriously setting it up to climb, and throwing the lamp down... I swear I just about turned into The Joker and had to stop myself going on a spree of destruction with sheer frustration. I hated this game....HATED it. I watched it for Chris's commentary... and thankfully I never have to watch it ever again. Great commentary though, as always.
I feel like no one play tested this game before developers released it... Needs a lot of polish. Some pretty good jump scares tho. Thankfully your commentary made it a lot more enjoyable.♥️
And you're absolutely right, we are two brothers, and it's a self-funded project, so due to lack of funds, it was released with very little testing and as an early access game. We are fixing many things little by little. We hope to find funding to finish "Nocturia" properly.

I think if you would push the bar stool along the side it will allow you to step on it to get a better shot or reach the keys WHATEVER!
