Now THIS is how to make a video. Bravo! There is taste, delicacay and intelligence here. And real feeling! Touching choice of photographs, tactful music. THANK YOU, FRIEND.
Very nice film, properly respectful. I saw the Chortens when I went to Everest Base Camp a few years ago, I remember one to a guy called Peter Ganner, made me very sad. Those of us who don't climb can only wonder at those who do. Thanks, nice music too.
petra carmon I don't think it is meant to cover all the famous climbers who have died - we could all add dozens of names but I suppose if we feel aggrieved by omissions it is up to us to make our own video!
You forgot Andy Harris on the AC team. He tried to save Rob Hall and Doug Hansen, but Doug died sometime during the night when Harris reached the two. Harris and Hall seek refuge under the south summit. They spent the night there. Hall woke up the next morgen only finding his jacket and ice axe. Hall died that same day. Harris’s and Hansen’s bodies were never found.

@@CarolHaynesJ i was watching this video in the hopes of finding out more information about alison hargreaves as i never got to meet her as she died before i was born, i know she has wrote books but was trying to find video information as well especially because they have just found the body of her son tom ballard. my nan got to meet them but not that often as she only ever met them at peoples funerals. shame this didnt have her on that list
Make your own list and post it than Matthias. I could ask you , what about Marty Hoey ...etc. There are a lot of people I would put in my Tribute that aren't on this post . And why is there always a need to include women in every endeavor. It's the man's list, leave it at that.
I didn't really like osman for his cocky style (no ropes) but that doesn't change the fact that he was a legend, and certainly he was an amazing climber and therefore deserves to be on the list.
I think people that rock climb or mountain climb are the same breed. They have much in common only differing in the type of climbing. It seems crazy to non climbers to partake in such a high risk adventures. Only the climbers really understand what it is that drives them. Dan Osman certainly deserves to be on the list of legends. It seems that this list is only for a particular type of climber. To me its one in the same, they all died on mountains, Why get lost in the formalities?
"Was it worth it?" Kind of a dumb question related to these people. You could ask some drunk driver who hits someone while driving, "was it worth it" and that would be valid but these people? They were living their lives challenging themselves. Seeing what their limitations are. Personally, I'm not sure there is any great "meaning" to life from a spiritual sense but I'm old enough to realize that basically you've got to live for yourself. It is your life. These guys were doing what they wanted.
Can anyone tell me the name of the famed climber who died scaling a cliff behind his home who supposedly used no equip whatsoever ever? He is said to be famous for being so crazy and climbing without any gear and his body alone. It was on national news the other day and he supposedly made a movie about him and his daring style.
Hello! I think that Göran Kropp, the Swede who travelled from sweden to nepal and climbed the mount everet on his own the year Fischer and Hall died should also be named in your video. e died in 2002, falling 70 feat.

I like this tribute...but no George Mallory?? He may have been the first to summit Everest, back in 1924, with no modern gear or clothing. C'mon man, what were you thinking?
@@khnarry7938 Being the very possible "first" to summit, by 29 years, AND climbing higher than anyone previously makes him the supreme "legend" he unquestionably was, even more so than today's modern equipped climbers.
Darwin awards to all. Wait, they don't give Darwin's to mountain climbers, people have to work a lot harder to get a Darwin than JUST dying climbing a mountain they have no business being on. I think the song is called "just another dead m.f.'er", but I could be wrong ...
One more legend added to the list. Rest in peace Ueli Steck :(
Scott Fischer.
RIP man, you were and will be my favorite of all time.
