1:27:21 2 stroke bicycle kits are how I got started into the world of motorcycling at 18-19. I strapped on a 3-4hp 66cc motor to a bicycle and quickly got addicted to the twist of the wrist and modding the motor to get that extra 5-10 mph. They are little rippers that'll get you going at 35-40mph on the right setup. Needless to say, I was surprised how 10x the power felt on my '93 EX500 that I got for $1200. Man, that first twist of the wrist in the parking lot was a dream! I've been binging these and just wanted to comment that there are options out there even nowadays for getting (especially young people like myself) on two wheels! Cheers gentlemen!

I have an amusing 'solo trip' anecdote, the girls laughing at Zack's boots brought it back in horrifying detail.
This was the late 80's and I was excited to go on one of my first mc trips. It's Friday afternoon, I got off work, jumped in the shower, immediately headed out.
After 30 minutes I got out of the city and I stopped for gas. Luckily for me there was a REALLY cute girl pumping gas. She asked if I could pump the gas, she didn't want to spill it on my tank. I thought "oh man, I'm really impressing her on my sweet bike". OK fine, helmet off, begin pumping. I try to chat her up, thinking I'm doing OK because she is smiling quite a bit - then I catch my reflection in my mirror.
At the time I was in a band (80's mind you) and my hair was super long and HUGE, basically a white guy afro. Imagine, if you will, what that looks like if you put a helmet on with wet hair then ride for 30 minutes and then take your helmet off. Sort of a tutu made of hair thing.
So due to my IMMENSE humiliation, I forgot how to talk and basically lost all fine motor skills. Proceeded to overfill the tank and absolutely drown my bike in gas. No fire, and I don't know why. The entire front of the bike was soaked.
I guess that ranks up there as one of my most embarrassing stories.
    Did not get the girl.

Just for your guys own knowledge the knock sensor would be controlling ignition timing and variable valve timing controls valve timing which are not one in the same. Great show, I came all the way from Spotify to leave that comment.... Long journey.

So happy to know Im the only who still uses the word "cobbler." I also like betwixt and chiropodist, both oddly appropriate here as well "if Zack doesn't get to the cobbler those boots will cause pain betwixt his toes and he will need to see a chiropodist!"

    Haha I got featured! 🤣
Thanks for the attention gentlemen, much appreciated. I like the point made about having eyes wide open about the shortcomings of one's own bike. By no means was I, nor am I, saying Harley does no wrong. They do some really stupid stuff sometimes. For what it's worth, I am still an avid listener/ viewer and definitely appreciate you guys. I do take your cruiser opinions with a grain of salt, but that's alright. I take your total motorcycle opinions very seriously; especially Spurge in the dirt, and Zach on the track. I'm not just an HD guy, I ride Yamahas on the dirt. Respect for airing a critical comment. Be safe out there fellas. 🤙🏼

What i really want from the IMS is test rides. It would be great if the regional sales mangers could get together and reserve some large, closed area (like a track or unused airport) to set up a course (or multiple courses for off-roaders) for test rides. As I've said before, I would pay money to do that. In the US the claim is that insurance costs prohibit test rides. Using a closed course should solve that problem (along with waivers).
I just want to be able to try bikes, preferably on the same course.
THAT is what would make me want to buy a bike.
I also think doing more local events along the lines of the COMOTO fests or the IMS outdoor would attract more of the new riders (young, less likely to buy a car) the industry says it wants

I was really forward to the IMS show, specifically the one scheduled for Carlisle, PA. There’s a major lack of shows anywhere close to Baltimore and very few brands holding demo days within an hour’s ride. Not to mention the convenience of having several brands represented in one place, even without the chance of a demo ride.

This is my first time leaving a comment, loved the show as always, it is great company in the garage, but I do have an issue with what you guys said about the Magna 700. It is not that he will not be able to get it running, but after sitting that long it is just going to need more than a carb clean, fluids, and tires. The front brake on that bike is hydraulic, and from sitting they usually have lots of issues with corrosion in the master cylinder and the brake caliper. When I get old bikes going that have been sitting a while I usually also encounter wiring issues due to connections being corroded or rodents. I really want the guy with the 700 to fix his bike, as I love seeing new people get into working on motorcycles, but I am worried that fixing that particular bike will be very difficult and frustrating. I do not want that to ruin his new found passion for wrenching on older bikes. Unfortunately lots of my friends have gotten into riding but they buy an old bike that needs lots of work or one that breaks down on them often. I’ve seen this turn potential new motorcyclist away and it is really a shame. We need all the new bikers we can get! Thanks again for the great episode, looking forward to the next one!

New bike question. My first and only bike was an FZ-07. I liked the engine and felt really comfortable with the power. I had the bike for a couple years then sold it. So it’s been about 3 years and I want to get back into riding. The ADV thing really interests me. The T7 looks great but it’s a little out of my budget. I’ve been eyeing the 390 Adventure. I like the size (I’m 5,8 170lbs), tech, safety features, and looks. I’m only concerned about the power. Will I be underwhelmed coming from the FZ? I would use the bike for commuting and I’d like to do some weekend camping trips with occasional dirt and gravel roads. Thanks for any thoughts.

Spurge...thanks for the mention. I'm from Philly too. Cottman and Frankford area. Yuze are millennials. And I'll reiterate...they were the envy of the world 🌎
It was a shitshow.. but it was cool and it put people on bikes and tools in people's hands. But daaamn...those 40-50k pieces of shit are virtually worthless now. But as with all dads, it'll come around again, in about 10-15 years.

You guys frequently sell yourselves short, this is a great podcast! Looks like a rip off of a Husky 401 based off some one describing it to the designer over the phone. (21:42) I really expected to hear "its Spurge world, its Spurge world, it's party time, it's excellent! Rrrr rrr rrr rrr!" I dont think I've ever heard the shotgun story Spurge, might want to tell that one in a future episode. Wouldn't picture Spurge as a white russian kinda guy, he did like my cookies though, I think they would pair well. IMO the V-Strom is the C.P.A. of motorcycles. Should you start on a busa? Should you learn to fly in an SR-71 Blackbird? Your welcome! Always happy to contribute. Btw I turned 45 at the end of March and age is just a number and what you make of it. Keep on doing what your doing and you'll be fine.

For the guy with the "sidecar clearance issues" - IMHO: It's all about spatial awareness. Just like always being aware or your overall length and track when pulling/cornering with a trailer; you have to CONSTANSTLY be mindful of your footprint when operating a sidecar. If that skill doesn't come fairly quickly with some empty parking lot exercises/maneuvers, it's time to switch to a traditional motorcycle.

Someone please explain to me why a Z900 and MT09 ride so differently? I have owned both and the experience is completely different. I know the engine configuration is a huge difference but on paper the Z900 makes more HP and more torque but the MT is WAY more wheelie happy and just more punchy and fun. Why?? Does 1 inch of wheel base and 60 lbs really make that much of a difference?

Every time the abs kicks on it scares the crap out of me and I let go of the breaks. Lucky for me I can't afford a bike with it.
Been riding for 40 years, no wrecks, no tech. I've only driven a couple of fancy bikes or cars for that matter and I am not hip to the technology between me and my machine. For ignorant average drivers and riders its definitely worth it but for someone as dirt poor as me carburetors, drum brakes, and direct cable cluch and throttle and best for me.

And it's true in the sense that in Europe too _most_ bikes were far from sporty or dynamically capable, and they had puny engines just because they weren't as wealthy as Americans who could afford big V-twins, plus had the customer volumes needed to mass-produce awesomeness to bring it down to affordable prices. Just because a few top bikes in Europe were great doesn't mean most of them weren't far less good and desirable than Harleys.
Hell, a huge amount of people had to ride scooters because they couldn't afford bigger stuff...many of them dreamt of owning something like a Harley.
Read a book or something listing ALL the motorcycles of those times and you'll get a better idea of the true situation than by reminiscing based on false memories that only remember the handful of biggest and best bikes around. The overall bike spread of the USA was so far above the spreads elsewhere for very long.
