Hi Andrew, I saw both of your review videos of the grand tulum and the luxury akumal. Great work! I'm considering between the two for our family with 2 young kids 5yo and 2yo. I like that the tulum is freshly renovated vs the traditional vibe at the akumal, how do you rate the beach between the two properties? And which has better food? It seems like the water park at tulum is a bit bigger? I appreciate your help.
@@ptmlinh thanks for the kind words Linh Phan. First, you’ll be very happy at both, so either or you’re all set. I think Tulum checks more boxes for you. The splash pad at Tulum is a huge win for families with young children. I thought the buffet was more organized and a bit better at Tulum. For us, the beach was better at akumal, but that is just because of the waves. Akumal has more protected swimming areas. Also, was probably the time we went. I don’t think the waves are usually that big. Anyways, thanks for watching, and enjoy your time!!!! Let us know how it went!! ☺️👏🏻
@@WherewegoingNext It was great hearing back from you. The protected beach is more ideal for us, but from photos Akumal rooms and facility look a bit outdated, which was what made me lean towards Tulum. What is your impression there? I personally prefer contemporary and modern (will be coming from Hyatt Ziva Cancun which is our first leg of the trip). Thanks for your input!!!
@@ptmlinh Akumal is a bit older, still nice though. Tulum is sparkly clean though.. Realllly fresh looking. I'd recommend the Tulum to take advantage of the new-modern of it!
First visit to GBP was at the Tulum section, we could use Coba and Akumal 2nd time same 3rd only Coba and Tulum. We will be coming back 31st August staying in the Sian Ka'an section to get access to all sections. Lovely clean spacious friendly hotel. Reasonably priced. You did a great job explaining everything, video very pleasing. Excellent effort.

We would have loved to see the turtles!! Love that. Thanks for the kind words. Sian Kaan would definitely be on our list for next time!! Thanks for the recommendation !
A few months ago I went there and I exceed my expectations, and the buffet is great, and there are events, there are some places where you can go to the beach, wowowow
In my search for resorts in the area that had good snorkeling, this was ranked somewhere as number three, and it was three because it has an artificial reef. So I was hoping that you would cover that, baby show a little video of snorkeling there? maybe you can in the future? Thanks for sharing the rest of the resort though, that was a good introduction to all this resort has to offer!
Hi ! Good idea covering some of the snorkelling. I didn’t snorkel in Tulum, but I did in Akumal. It isn’t amazing, in comparison to big reefs, but you can still see lots of fish and critters !!
you are wonderful! i love this! I love the video and more importantly you !!! as a Fellow TH-camr and film maker please keep posting! you have a new favorite sub! :)
Wow, they painted everything in monotone. I was there a couple of years ago, our room was poolside next to the food truck. It didn't really need a refresh as I recall, all the buildings were colorful and warm and a variety of colors. They removed about 2/3rds of the seating in the bar by the entrance. Undecided if the renovations are an improvement.
Aww. I didn’t see the resort pre-renovation. I personally love the Renovations, but I can see how if you made some nice memories there, it’s tough to see the changes! 🙈
Hey Andrew! I loved all your videos! My friends and I are heading to the Bahia Principe Akumal this weekend and were wondering what your top restaurants were between the resorts! Thanks!
That's amazing, hope you have a wonderful trip!! It was pretty busy when we went at Christmas, but everyone was trying to get in Don Pablo - the gourmet restaurant. We also LOVED the vibe at the mexican restaurant Tequila. It was a buffet, but much more personal. They chefs will make you custom orders. The decor in there is so colourful and bright!! Loved it there. Thank you! I appreciate the kind words!
The presentation is perfect, congrats !! We want to go in November in Akumal and stay at Bahia Principe but I am shocked about the ammount of the sea weed, it is like this all year-round?? Thank you !!
Went here years ago and we managed to find a liquor store and grabbed a 40oz of Smirnoff. Our A/C quit working in my room ( the 4 of us shared two separate rooms ) so we called buddy to come fix it ( after the 40oz ) he came by we ended up fixing it for him lol. Then we were trying to tell him how to join the rooms on the patio so one didn’t have to walk around. He had zero idea what we were talking about the moment i said patio…. So i tried rattling off some deck words. Porch, deck, patio, terrace, veranda, the patilario 😂. He didnt think it was as funny as we did
LOVE the video. In the process of deciding if we should go or not but I was curious, those villas you pointed out - are they part of Grand Tulum? Or another property within the Bahia Principe umbrella? I couldn't find it on their site.
If you are referring to the villas in between Akumal and Tulum, they are part of Bahia, but their own section - they are time shares and you do not have access to that area.
Thank you!! So they don’t have a cafeteria, but they do have a buffet that offers breakfast lunch and dinner! You’ll find the food much more delicious than a traditional cafeteria ! 😉😉
It’s an excellent resort for children ! There’s an arcade, Bahia scouts (for little ones), splash pad, “The Truck” food truck. Also, there’s lots of cool wildlife around for kiddos to spot! Great choice!
Great video. Hopefully we can make it back for spring break. Stayed in Conan last time. Amazing time. If you stay in tulum do you still have access to the other restaurants? Also, are the other resort areas closed?
At this time, Coba and Sian Kaan are closed. If you stay at Akumal, you can go visit Tulum and enjoy their bars, buffets and a la cartes. Unfortunately, Tulum guests can only “play” at Tulum.
Hi, I just found your videos, they are really helpful, I'm planning a trip for may, if we stay at the Grand Tulum can we visit the beach at the akumal hotel? we are 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a 4 year old so I think the grand tulum would be better, but looking at your videos the beach at akumal looks better.
When we were there, there wasn’t anyone really patrolling the beach. But you might find it difficult to order drinks at the akumal beach. Otherwise, enjoy your swimming !!!
Hey! thanks for this video! Were going next week with my 1 & 3 year old. Is there a kids splash pad, or kids pool on this resort? I really hope it does have one.
Sure is!! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all inclusive. All drinks are included too. They do have a few options to “upgrade” your stay... eg tomohawk steaks, fresh lobster, top shelf liquor, but those are optional. Happy birthday when that time comes !!! 🥳
Thanks for the video. We will be there next week. Question: apparently the beach is not suitable for swimming? Is there a nearby beach to bathe in calm and clear waters?
You're welcome! :) If you walk down the beach towards Akumal, it get's MUCH more calm - near La Gran Tortuga restaurant. If you can, walk all the way to the Akumal beach - they have a little lagoon there that's gorgeous and protected by a reef. hopefully some of those waves settle before next week, it was quite windy while we were there - but it calmed the last two days of our trip. Even the locals said the wind was surprising. Enjoy your vacation!!!! :D
Thank you. We booked this one through Air Canada Vacations. Another we use is Sunwing. Generally just book right through their websites, or look on TripCentral.ca for a price comparison view.
You have some amazing content thank you for that . I know you haven’t done palladium but I m wondering if you know between the newly renovated Bahia principe Tulum and Palladium colonial is a better deal ( food, beach and entertainment ) thank you 🙏
So sorry, we cannot compare since we have not been to Palladium before 🤷🏼♀️ All we can say is that Tulum has great dining and specialty restaurants, great entertainment for both adults and kids, but the beach is quite rocky - so you need water shoes to enjoy the ocean. Thanks for watching our videos 🙏🏻
This is great! I saw some of your videos on Bahia Principe resorts. I'm considering both Punta Cana and Tulum. Among Tulum, Esmeralda, and Fantasia, which resort do you recommend for a family with a three year old?
I would say either Fantasia or Tulum - both are great for families and have lots of activities for small children. It all depends on if u want Mexico or Dominican 👍🏻
This looks so good guys thank you for showing this to us all!! What did you call that little critter by the pool? He looked cool haha! My friend is getting married in Tulum in November and we hope to stay here :)
That’s great!! Hope you guys enjoy the resort in November! Congrats to your friend. The critter is an Agouti. They’re funny. You’re welcome!! Glad you enjoyed the video. Share it with your friends who are going with you in November ! 🥰
If you stay at Tulum resort, you can visit and use the restaurants/bars at Tulum and Coba only. Akumal is a higher tier and doesn’t allow Tulum/Coba guests.
@@vogelfilmt1440 yup! There is another higher resort called Sian Kaan. You won’t be able to use that one. It’s in land, not on the beach, so that doesn’t tend to bother Akumal guests.
Great video really enjoy your commentary we absolutely love the property if you get the chance go to the GBP Sian Kaan its the adult only there and its set in the jungle and our favourite...Viv
Several others have recommends SK. Wish it was open when we were there, we would have asked to do a tour! Oh well gives us a reason to go back! Thanks for the kind words!! ☺️
When i went too el cid in cancun my boys and i were picking them up and running around, chasing them blah blah. Super harmless and cool. Then a mexican “ police “ ( Till this day I don’t know if hewas or not. ) extorted us for about $500 usd ahahahahah. Don’t fuck around with the lizards they are sacred and leave you alone. All in all mexico is a great place
Yes. We landed in Cancun. There is a shuttle service offered through the hotel. Call them to book. If you book directly with the hotel, it should be included. Our shuttle was provided through our vendor: Air Canada Vacations. Thank you!!! I’m glad you found the video helpful!
How is the seaweed situation at this resort in August? I’ve heard it’s bad in Tulum, but I’m wondering if hotel staff remove it daily from the hotel beaches
There is usually quite a bit of seaweed in the summer, but it all depends on the tide. Yes, the resort does their best to clear it, but sometimes they can’t keep up 🤷🏼♀️
how different is the quality of the beach from famous tulum beaches? My friends and I are deciding if we should stay here or at a hotel in tulum! 😄 thanks for this video!
How far is this resort from downtown tulum, and beach tulum? I never been and I’m currently trying to book something but I’m not sure where Akamal is? I want to visit the maya ruins, cenotes and be on the beach.
Is there any chance that you remember where the volleyball net is located on the beach? We;d like to request a building close to that, but I can't seem to figure out the location.
Hmm! I saw a picture on Google just now that shows what looks like the Volleyball posts in front of the theatre. Don't quote me on that. Maybe someone else can verify..
@@yash_shah Oh! I gotcha. Yes, there is nightlife - there's a theatre, outdoor music, and a sportsbar with dancing, and music until late at night! lot's of options. You can also visit the Hacienda.
Grand Bahia Tulum delivers all of the features expected of an all-inclusive mega-resort, including daily activities like dance and exercise classes; medical service; shuttle service; and assortment of shops.
Hi, How far is the children's waterslides from the Bahia Principe grand Coba resort hope it's not far like the beach, does this Bahia Principe grand Coba have another seperate children's playground that has swing's, slides not the waterslides part but a separate part like a playground so no water like the waterslides
If you stay at Coba, you do not have access to the water park at Tulum. Yes, I mentioned in my answer to your previous question - there is a small play area in the kids club with a small plastic slide and swings. This is shown in the Coba tour video.
Oh man, there's all kinds of beach bars in Tulum. Talk to the concierge to get transport. There's also a lot of awesome excursions to do - ATVs, Jungle Treks with rappelling and zip-lines, snorkelling in cenotes... endless possibilities in the Mayan Riviera!
Have stayed at the Bahia many, many times. The beach is swimmable from large sections, but like most of the riviera maya the sea can be very rough. There are large areas protected by sand whales where you can swim most of the time. The lifeguards, if on duty at the time you swim, will stop you from entering areas that are unsafe. Also normally there is no section of the beach reserved for the residences, maybe that’s a COVID thing. The beach from left to right with your back to the sea is as follows, Akumal, Sian Ka’an, Privilege Club, Coba then Tulum. There is a very small area of beach in the middle that is part of the Eco Bahia and is where most of the turtle nests are. The privilege club is not an area that you can “upgrade to” it’s the timeshare part of the Bahia.
Thanks for the detailed info! It’s certainly not very well marked out. With Coba and Sian kaan closed right now, it’s likely even more difficult to tell. Agreed, the ocean settled down a lot towards the end of our stay.. it was rough at the beginning.
@@WherewegoingNext It’s often rough but you can always swim in the protected “lagoons” lol. The area right in front of the infinity pool is our favourite, it’s known colloquially as the “ Bahia lovers beach” after a Facebook group. Sadly the area south of Akumal is no go now due to the construction of the two new hotels. That used to be known as the secret beach and was the best of all. Just an FYI you classed Dolce Vita as Mexican, it’s an Italian but atm they are rotating a la Carter’s because of COVID, & Los Corales is another Brazilian in the evenings.
@@alanedwards9069 alas, you’re right! Missed that. You’re quite the BP guru! Thanks for the tips. A few others also mentioned Los Corales as Brazilian 😆. Do you know what hotels are being built?
@@WherewegoingNext that’s a bit of a controversy tbh. One is a fiesta Americana and the other is a “boutique” brand from the same owners as the fiesta Americana. But the construction was put on hold as permission should never have been given. Backhanders apparently, it’s Mexico lol. Whether it will be allowed to recommence is the question. If you return then be sure to visit Sian Ka’an it’s where we always stay now.
All rooms have balconies or patios 👍🏻 I don’t remember the exact buildings with ocean view, but u can ask at checkin 👍🏻 we stayed in villa 3 and we had partial ocean views from the 3rd floor
The non-rocky area by BP Akumal would be an 8 out 10. It’s a beautiful, long beach! The only issue is that there are rocks at the bottom upon entry. We 100% recommend bringing water shoes to make entry much easier. The ocean does get less rocky the further you go out, just the entry part is a bit unpleasant.
@@Darmossful ahh no way! We were there in October 2019. We stayed at the RIU Palace Peninsula!! Gorgeous resort. We have a tour of those resorts in Cancun too. Did you do any excursions while you were in Cancun ?
@@Darmossful Samsies! We enjoyed some local food, and took a golf cart around the island. It started to pour rain, so we had to bail out early! How was it for you ?

Lots of potential activities you can do around Tulum and Playa Del Carmen, or Cozumel. Is there anything that’s a must have for you two?? Congratulations!!! 🤩🥳.
Thanks for posting the video of the resort. I have a group that's looking to go there, but I have to say, that beach/ocean area is absolutely terrible based on your video. Is that the extent of the access?
@@joeybagadonuts5774 I’m an ocean person too. The little lagoon in front of akumal is where I spent majority of my time snorkelling. It’s much calmer and clear there. Lots of sea life - fish, coral - near the reef.
Do you meanGrand Tulum versus Luxury Akumal? Yes, we prefer the Luxury Akumal because of the adults-only section and the nicer beach. Tulum is great for families though, so it depends who you’re travelling with 🤷🏼♀️
No. They don’t have a sports bar at Tulum. There is a sports bar at Akumal that shows all kinds of different sporting events on multiple TVs all around the bar.
I knowww... Unfortunately, they wouldn't allow me access to the rooms due to disinfection protocols. We stayed in the Akumal section, so we did a full room tour for that resort. It'll be posted soon! :D

So they don’t have a cafeteria, but they do have a buffet that offers breakfast lunch and dinner! You’ll find the food much more delicious than a traditional cafeteria ! 😉😉
Thank you, great video! Helped me to see the resort better than posted pictures online. Would you say it's good for children?
It’s an excellent resort for children ! There’s an arcade, Bahia scouts (for little ones), splash pad, “The Truck” food truck. Also, there’s lots of cool wildlife around for kiddos to spot! Great choice!
Hi. Planning on going to Akumal side. Do you know if there is access between the hotels? Like sharing restaurants and pools?
Yea! If you stay at Akumal, you can visit Tulum and use the facilities and restaurants, but not vice versa if staying at Tulum.
Hey! Great video. I know some hotels are offering covid 19 tests. Are they doing this on this resort?
Last time I checked - yes. Double check for the time you plan on visiting though.
Unfortunately, Tulum guests can only “play” at Tulum.
shout out to you for this video my guy
Thank you Kai! Appreciate the shout out! 🙌🏻
Yes, we showed the splash pad in the video! Hope you have a great time!
Is all the food free? The resort looks amazing!! Wanting to go for my birthday
Sure is!! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all inclusive. All drinks are included too. They do have a few options to “upgrade” your stay... eg tomohawk steaks, fresh lobster, top shelf liquor, but those are optional. Happy birthday when that time comes !!! 🥳
Thank you, we are going there March of 2021
Have an excellent time!! Let us know how you like it!
Thanks for the video. We will be there next week. Question: apparently the beach is not suitable for swimming? Is there a nearby beach to bathe in calm and clear waters?
You're welcome! :)
If you walk down the beach towards Akumal, it get's MUCH more calm - near La Gran Tortuga restaurant.
Great Vlog and Review ! I live in Western Canada and finding it hard to book places like these. Can I ask who you booked thru ?
@@WherewegoingNext thank you :)
Fantasia Amazing, but still beach seaweed..
@@WherewegoingNext Amazing thank you guys! I’ll definitely be putting the video in the wedding group it was a beautiful insight 🙌
@@WalkWithWyatt yay! Happy to hear! Have fun, and let us know how it was!
Hey Great Video
Are you allowed to use everything at this Resort like the Restaurants and Bars from the Akumal or Coba for example
If you stay at Tulum resort, you can visit and use the restaurants/bars at Tulum and Coba only. Akumal is a higher tier and doesn’t allow Tulum/Coba guests.
@@WherewegoingNext So of i d stay at the akumal i could use everything
@@vogelfilmt1440 yup! There is another higher resort called Sian Kaan. You won’t be able to use that one. It’s in land, not on the beach, so that doesn’t tend to bother Akumal guests.
Great video really enjoy your commentary we absolutely love the property if you get the chance go to the GBP Sian Kaan its the adult only there and its set in the jungle and our favourite...Viv
Several others have recommends SK. Wish it was open when we were there, we would have asked to do a tour! Oh well gives us a reason to go back!
Thanks for the kind words!! ☺️
I know Coba has a kids water park. Is there one at Tulum too?
Yes! It’s new - just built in the last few years!
Really wanna go to Mexico but the iguanas is the deal breaker for me, huge phobia! Such a pitty this hotel looks awsum!
Aww! They're pretty harmless! I think they're more frightened of humans!
When i went too el cid in cancun my boys and i were picking them up and running around, chasing them blah blah. Super harmless and cool. Then a mexican “ police “ (
Till this day I don’t know if hewas or not. ) extorted us for about $500 usd ahahahahah. Don’t fuck around with the lizards they are sacred and leave you alone. All in all mexico is a great place
Going bahia principe akumal premier club in may 2021 this be my fourth time staying here
Yay!! That’ll be a nice time. May the fourth be with you! 😂
Which airport did you guys land in? Cancun? Do they offer a shuttle bus? Also loved the video! Very informative ☺️😊
Yes. We landed in Cancun. There is a shuttle service offered through the hotel. Call them to book. If you book directly with the hotel, it should be included. Our shuttle was provided through our vendor: Air Canada Vacations.
Thank you!!! I’m glad you found the video helpful!
How long did it take you to get from the airport to the resort ?
@@JaslynNoelTV I would say it took us about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
@@WherewegoingNext ok great. We’ll be staying here this Saturday. Thank you
@@JaslynNoelTV amazing !! Have a wonderful time ! Enjoy the ☀️
Are there a lot of mosquitos? Playa del Carmen had lots of them and wonder how its there.
We were there in January and barely saw mosquitos. Very rarely.
I’m not 100%. I’ve only been to the resort beaches. They are excellent !! Maybe someone else can chime in about the Tulum beach.
Great Tour
Would you stay at tulum of the luxury akumal ?
Probably Akumal. That way you can visit Tulum whenever it suits you. Can’t go between if staying at Tulum.
Thank you!!
Just came back yesterday I want to come back already 😭😭😭
Aww! We feel you!
How far is this resort from downtown tulum, and beach tulum? I never been and I’m currently trying to book something but I’m not sure where Akamal is? I want to visit the maya ruins, cenotes and be on the beach.
Its not super close to the town of Tulum, about a 25 minute drive.
Are all the restaurants that require reservations all inclusive or is it just the buffets that are all inclusive?
Everything is all inclusive!! Enjoy !! 🤩
Ahh ! 110% found it in front of the theatre on Google Street view.. goo.gl/maps/K1zXcvFFo5W5tbvbA

You're welcome!! Have a great time! :)
Is there any lounge or club within the resort ? Thank you!
Do you mean the privilege club?
@@WherewegoingNext I meant for night life
@@yash_shah Oh!
Lovely tour!! How was the food at this resort?? 🤩🤩 Have you travelled to Mexico City?
The food was great! We’ve got a couple buffet tours coming up too, breakfast and dinner.
I haven’t been to Mexico City before. How is it!??
@@WherewegoingNext Mexico City is awesome!! You should come! Great food, lots of things to do! We could do a collab! 😃
Would love to come! Gotta find the time! Would you recommend a visit to Teotihuacan? I’ve always want to go there !!
@@WherewegoingNext Yes! That is a must when you’re in Mexico City!
How does it compare to Chichen Itza? We visited there in 2019
Hi,
How far is the children's waterslides from the Bahia Principe grand Coba resort hope it's not far like the beach, does this Bahia Principe grand Coba have another seperate children's playground that has swing's, slides not the waterslides part but a separate part like a playground so no water like the waterslides
If you stay at Coba, you do not have access to the water park at Tulum.
Yes, I mentioned in my answer to your previous question - there is a small play area in the kids club with a small plastic slide and swings. This is shown in the Coba tour video.
What would you recommend for a group of young guys in Tulum in terms of where to stay and places to go
Oh man, there's all kinds of beach bars in Tulum.
@@alanedwards9069 interesting. I’d love to visit Sian Kaan. Think one of these hotel tours would be helpful in Sian Kaan? I’d love to do it! 😍
Are all restaurants included in all inclusive price ?
They sure are!! 🤩
Which buildings or rooms have a balcony with ocean view ?
All rooms have balconies or patios 👍🏻 I don’t remember the exact buildings with ocean view, but u can ask at checkin 👍🏻 we stayed in villa 3 and we had partial ocean views from the 3rd floor
@@WherewegoingNext Thank you!
How far is this resort from Tulum ? I know it’s a bit north but how far ?
Both the ruins and the city of Tulum are about a 30 min ride by car. It’s actually in the south! 30 mins north is Playa Del Carmen. ☺️☺️
What does everyone prefer?? Tulum Bahia or Akumal??? I cant decide which one to go to!
If you’re travelling with a family, I would choose Tulum. If not, the adults-only section at Akumal is excellent 👍🏻
@@WherewegoingNext thank you! If we don’t get an adults only room can we still access the adults only pool and amenities?
Yes you can 👍🏻
How would you rate the non rocky area of the beach? We love swimming in the ocean
@@WherewegoingNext thanks! I thought that we weren’t allowed to visit the akumel resort anymore though if we are staying at tulum?
You can still visit and definitely walk the beach over there and go in the water! U just won’t be able to eat at the buffet
Nice, so is this in Cancun?
Thanks friend! This is about 1.5 hours south of Cancun. It’s in the Mayan Riviera near Tulum. Have you been to Cancun?

Is there anything that’s a must have for you two??

Does the suite has 2 bathrooms?
The rooms we saw were 1 bathroom only. I don't think they have 2 bathroom rooms/suites.
Thanks for posting the video of the resort. I have a group that's looking to go there, but I have to say, that beach/ocean area is absolutely terrible based on your video. Is that the extent of the access?
The beach is very long so there are many access points, however it is very rocky and you need water shoes to enter.
@@WherewegoingNext Thanks for the quick reply. As an Ocean person, that's a bit disappointing, but the resort does look nice. Thanks again.
@@joeybagadonuts5774 I’m an ocean person too. The little lagoon in front of akumal is where I spent majority of my time snorkelling. It’s much calmer and clear there. Lots of sea life - fish, coral - near the reef.

We loved the food! Lots of variety. Found it slightly better at RIU.
Can you swim in the ocean is it a nice beach
