Out of all the Bahia Principe sister resorts luxury, Tulum, grand coba, ect.. which one would you say you recommend most for adult families looking for a good beach for swimming close by, great selection of food and drinks, and good entertainment day and night as well as overall most things to do? I know you can visit any of the resorts if you stay in Bahia luxury right? So you have access to them all essentially but to have things close by what is the best to stay in. We're not too picky but enjoy good spacious rooms as well. Do they come with mini bars with alcohol? I apologize for all the questions. My family is planning to go to one of the Bahia properties in Mexico but I wanna know which one is best to stay at. Thanks in advance for you time! 😅
We recommend the Luxury Akumal 👍🏻 you can also visit Grand Tulum and Grand Coba as well, but not Luxury Sian Ka’an (that one is far from the beach and not our favourite 🤷🏼♀️) Yes the rooms at Akumal have mini bars and beer 👍🏻 We just posted an updated tour of Akumal in the leaf few months, along with room tours so you can see 👍🏻
Thank you. So yes, they do have basketball and tennis. They’re located near the hacienda down from the road from the Tulum resort. So you’d have to take the trolly from the Akumal resort.
We are getting ready to stay at this hotel in 3 weeks and watching your video was super helpful! Thank you for taking the time to go through the entire resort!
Hi! Thank you for your wonderful travel videos. I love how informative, throughout and professional they are! I thought you are a travel agent when I watched Riu Yucatan :) However I'm reading here that you are not, so I wanted to say thanks for helping me find more information in trying to make a decision on where to book in the Mayan Riviera. From your videos, I think I'm leaning towards Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal because it seems it would be a good fit for our list of priorities: 1. nice beach - swimmable, large, clean and kid friendly 2. clean and nice rooms (does not have to be height of luxury but still not mouldy, smelly, etc.) 3. not overly loud and reasonable activities. Based on your video, am I correct in thinking that even though the beach seems windy and a bit rocky (more so in some sections), there are wide sections for swimming? Not only wading in water and not champion swimming but nice relaxing swim? From looking at some selection, these are some that we're considering: Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal, Riu Yucatan, Sandos Caracol Eco Resort, Barcelo Maya Beach or Colonial (not sure if you had a chance to visit these last two). Would you be able to give me your recommendation? Sorry, I know you get this request often :) Thanks in advance!
Thanks for the feedback! We are glad to help! Yes, the beach is very long and if you stay at Akumal, you can visit and use the facilities and beach at Bahia Principe Tulum as well. You have lots of places to relax on the beach, but definitely bring water shoes to make the entry into the water a lot easier. Sorry, we have not been to the barcelo or sandos. You can’t go wrong with either RIU Yucatan or Bahia principe akumal 👍🏻
Your reviews are soooo detailed, thank you! We are trying to decide between this place and Riu Palace RM. The price difference is pretty big but we do love Playacar. We have been to several resorts in the area and want to try something new. How was overall the beach at Bahia Principe? Thank you!
Riviera Maya is really nice. It’s recently renovated. Beach at Akumal is in a little lagoon, so that nice. RM is a large beach, and prone to weather and seaweed during April - November. Really depends on the tides. Bahia has really good nightlife, whereas RIU is 11pm cutoff unless you go to RIU tequila. RM is close to playacar, which is nice for a trip out and nightlife. Hope that helps! Thanks for the kind words! (We’re heading back to Bahia Tulum on Thursday. Follow our Instagram to see how it is now)
Thank you the thorough review. We are thinking of booking this place for January. Would like to ask where you got your pcr tests and how was the internet service?
We were not required to do a PCR test when we went, so we are not sure. Most hotels will have a nurse come on site to do the tests. The internet worked great for us! 👍🏻
@@WherewegoingNext is there an excursion you would not miss or skip? Or one of the restaurants that’s a must? I am headed there in June for my anniversary
@@scgook many ppl rave about Don Pablo the gourmet restaurant. It was booked while we went, couldn’t get in. There are sooo many excursions in Mexico and the Mayan Riviera. So hard to name one. What kind of things are you into? Sailing, scuba, jungle treks, swimming with turtles, archeological?
@@scgook as a bucket list thing, chichen itza is very cool! It’s really far away, so it’s basically an entire day trip. Coba is much closer and still pretty neat. There’s all kinds of cenote swimming which usually have some “cliffs” to jump off of. Ask the resort if there are some recommended tours or looks for third parties. They’re usually cheaper. We have a Chichen itza video on our channel you can check out. Maybe pick one or two things, but don’t stack your trip up with excursions or you’ll never get to relax!! 🤗
Was there any dress codes for the buffets?...can u wear sleevless/ tank tops when going to the buffet?...At 1 of the Riu's u could wear tank tops and sleevless shirts for breakfast but those tops weren't allowed at dinner time
The dress code is pretty casual at the buffets. As long as you’re not in your bathing suit, you should be fine. I don’t remember specifically about sleeveless shirts, but I don’t think it would be a problem 🤔
Trying to book our first “parents’ getaway” (had our first child during the height of COVID, so we haven’t gone anywhere since 2019 lol). Planning on going with three other couples, do you suggest Akumal over Tulum?
That’s exciting! And congrats! We would recommend Akumal for an adults getaway. Tulum is more geared towards families. The great thing about staying at Akumal is that u can visit both resorts and use their amenities, but not vice versa if staying at Tulum.
I love your videos! Very informative! I have a question, guests from Grand Tulum can’t use the pools or restaurants from Akumal? Also, what is the difference between privilege guest and all inclusive guests? Thanks in advance 🙏
Thank you! Hats kind of you to say. Correct, Tulum guests can only use Tulum and Coba. Privilege is like a vacation club. Benefits you if you plan to visit Bahia Principe a few times a year, year after year. There’s a few perks on site, private lounge, beach, bar. Honestly, we travel to many different places , doesn’t make sense for us.
Going there in December. Trying to decide where to stay among the Bahia Principe resorts. Your videos of these resorts have been very helpful. Very good coverage of what’s available in the property. Good use of the map matching it with the actual location. Your descriptions are concise. Your choices of relevant topics down to the small details are spot on. Great job! Thank you.
The quiet pool is only quiet because Canadians can't visit the resort right now without having to quarantine when they return. It's usually busy. In general, the GBP complex is very popular with Canadians. Maybe 60% Canadian, 30% US, and 10% Brits.
Awesome video, I had a few questions if you dont mind answering. What kind of liquor is there? Mostly what types of rum and vodka? Thanks again for the great video!
You’re welcome friend!! Okay, good you brought that up. Mona and I like to dip into vodka cranberry, or mojitos from time to time... the house vodka/rum has a very different taste. We noticed they had Skyy Vodka and Bacardi Rum that made them taste more like home. I’m not picky by any means, but it was off putting. So much so that I’d request skyy or Bacardi rum depending on what I was ordering.
We only got to visit seafood and Mexican. Mexican was terrific. So nicely themed. It’s a buffet style, but a bit more personal. Chef will make you custom tacos. Burritos. Etc. Seafood was meh. People ravvvvvveeeee over don pablo the gourmet. We didn’t get in there. It was Christmas/New years, so it was all booked up.

Travelling here in January and trying to decide on what building would be best. We do enjoy the adults only at the past few luxury Bahia Principe we’ve been to however here it looks like those rooms are pretty far away from everything. How long would the walk be from buildings 82/83 to the main lobby ? Thanks @wherewegoingnext?
We loved the adults only section, since it is newer. It was about a 5-8 minute walk to the main lobby. We didn’t find it bad at all, plus there are trollies that go all around the resort so you can always catch one of those if needed.
@@WherewegoingNext appreciate the feedback. 5 min walk sounds pretty doable , we just wanted to make sure it wasn’t super out of the way that’s all. Thanks
Dear andrew , i hope you are ok . I need to ask you some questions about the hotel: 1-) los corales snack restaurantes are adults only ? And 2-) do you think buildings from 47 to 50 are good for rest and have good sleeping nights? I mean they are close to the beach buy maybe thers too many noise from music or people ? Let me know your important opinión my friend , and again thx for tour videos .
Hey Carlos, the los corales is supposed to be adults only, yes. The thing about buildings 47-50, is that they are right beside the sports bar, which typically stays open with loud music until 1:30am. Might not be the best selection if you're looking to keep things quiet. You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@WherewegoingNext Thxs andrew. Some time ago you told me about which buildings you recommend for a quite night, i cant find it, could you please repeat me, sorry, thanks.
Does the Bahia Principe (Tulum) have an adult only side as well? I am looking for a great all inclusive resort to visit this December for my birthday with my partner. Thank you 😊 great videos and details - I’m literally watching all your videos! Thanks!
No, the BP Akumal has the adults only section and it’s very nice and new! If you stay at Akumal, you can visit Tulum - but not vice versa. Glad you found our videos helpful!
@@WherewegoingNext thank you ! One last question - does the architecture in regards to the rooms differ? I really love how pretty tulum looks and their buildings. But I know I can visit and take photos (if I stay at Akumal) so I’m curious if their rooms are in the same type of orange building like Akumal, or more upgraded overall? Thx!
The Tulum rooms are all new and upgraded and all the buildings are that gorgeous white look. We didn’t get a chance to see one for ourselves, but there is a photo of the room in our Tulum resort tour video.
Sorry, the ocean and seaweed is very unpredictable. Global warming has changed the ocean a lot in recent years, so you can no longer predict when the seaweed will be worse - it all changes with the tides 🤷🏼♀️
Do you have any suggestions on what building to stay in? As well how to go about getting that building? We are traveling as a family of 4 , thank you so much for your video
Honestly, all the buildings are going to be good. We stayed in the adults only section ( farthest from the lobby) and the walk was only like 5-10 mins to the lobby, 2 mins to the beach. There’s a trolley that runs and gets you just about anywhere in < 5 mins. I personally like being closer to the water. You can request a building through your booking provider, maybe in the notes, or try calling the resort. This isn’t a guarantee that you will get that building though. Have fun regardless!!!
Hello! I am currently in-between Luxury Akumal vs Grand Tulum. I really like the Buffet at the Grand Tulum, but we want to stay at the Luxury Akumal. During your time there, were you able to dine at both buffets? I've read on their website you can only dine at the buffet of the hotel you are staying at. Thank you for your GREAT videos! We've haven't found a review/ tour video as informative, easy to follow, and full of great footage as yours. Thank you for making this big decision easier.
Thank you for the kind words 😊 Glad it was able to help you out. When we stayed at Luxury Akumal, we were allowed to eat at the Tulum buffet 🤷🏼♀️ we ate at the buffet for breakfast and dinner, and at “the truck” for lunch on the Tulum side several times without any questions. There are also a-la carte restaurants on the Tulum side that are included and available to book (ie. Indian & Mexican). The information we were given was that if you stay at Akumal, you can visit and use the facilities at Tulum, but not vice versa. We visited in January, 2021 - hopefully this is still true. Overall, we do recommend staying at the Akumal resort (the adults-only section is excellent if travelling without children). Akumal has a better beach and larger food selection at the buffet 👍🏻 Hope that helps! Have a great trip!
Yes. Akumal is the "Luxury" resort, and has an adults only area. Although, Tulum has been more recently renovated - and it's looking fresh!! Both are pretty comparable though. If you choose Akumal, you can go visit and "play" at Tulum. This doesn't work the other way around.
In terms of aesthetics and food, I would say grand Tulum. It’s brand newly renovated as is November 2020. It’s gorgeous. Akumal is still excellent, but Tulum will Check those boxes for you
@@WherewegoingNext do you think it’s worth booking at the Bahia Luxury so we visit the other resorts? Or there’s not much of a difference when it comes to food options
Hi, did you fly to CUN? Did you take a taxi at the airport or did you organize with the hotel for transfers? I was reading online that it’s about 2 hours away from the Cancun International airport
Yes, we flew into Cancun airport. The hotel is about 1.5 to 2 hours away from the airport based on traffic. We booked a package that included flights, hotel and transfers so we didn’t have to organize those, but you can google Cancun airport shuttles or get a taxi/Uber to the hotel 👍🏻
If you stay at this hotel(akumal) do you get name brand alcohol? instead of one of the non-luxury hotels like tulum or coba? Do they just get “shelf” or no name alcohol?
I’m not a huge alcohol aficionado, but I do recall seeing absolut, skyy, and various other brands that I typically see where I’m from in Toronto. You sometimes have to ask specifically for them, otherwise you’ll just get the no name brands.
We went over a year and a half ago, so a lot has changed. We don’t know what the beach looks like lately. The tide is unpredictable, so you can have 2 days of seaweed and 4 days of clear water 🤷🏼♀️ your best bet is to join the Facebook group for this hotel - people who are currently there will post pics of the beach so you can see. But again - it will likely change by the time u go there 🤷🏼♀️
Funny thing if you snorkel at the beach area he visited that is like a lagoon and if you go to the far corner of the blockade you can see sea urchins under the rocks so be aware
I booked Akumal for my honeymoon but I also noticed you said that we could visit the other resorts. Do they provide transportation? Also, what are some great things you would recommend couples to see/activities?
Congrats !! :D We also spent our honeymoon in Mayan Riviera! It was the best time. We went on 3 excursions - 1) snorkelling in cenotes, mayan jungle trek 2) swimming in cenotes, swimming with sea turtles. 3) We also did our PADI scuba diving cert. We were there for two weeks, that's why we were able to do a lot. If you can spare some time - check out an excursion! Cozumel is also spectacular for diving and snorkelling. Yes - you can visit Bahia Principe Tulum. They have a resort shuttle that runs every 15 mins or so. You can visit Coba too, but it's not open at the moment (Jan 21). Certainly enjoy the time together as newlyweds! :) :) :)
It depends. If you have children, they would LOVE the splash pad at Tulum. Can’t go to Akumal if staying at Tulum. Akumal is great too, really solid. Can visit Tulum if staying at Akumal ! Tulum looks nicer with the new renovations. Akumal has a wonderful beach for swimming. Either one you’re going to really enjoy!
Hello I’m thinking about traveling here for Valentine’s Day . My question is how concerned were you guys about the advisory given about Mexico and the crime rate ?? And also what’s the main difference between both resorts other than the fact one has the beach and the other have the water park ?
We didn’t get very nervous about the advisories. We stayed safe, and stayed on the resort, except for organized tours. Our transportation was arranged before we arrived. I don’t really worry too much about crime in east Mexico. Then again, you have just be smart! We liked akumal✅. Tulum is more modern, since it was just renovated. Both have beach access, akumal is a little nicer on the beach. Both are great, and are great choices. You won’t be disappointed.
@@mimanicole1807 awesome!! Have an excellent time!! Yes, if you’re staying at Akumal, you can visit, eat at, drink at, swim at Tulum! And Coba if it’s open!
@@mimanicole1807 We booked it through the airline vendor who is on site at the resort. I'm sure they'd be happy to help you find an excursion. You're also welcome to check the Bahia Tours. Just price match it and make sure you have transportation to/from. :)
If you stay at Sian Ka’an, you can visit and eat at Akumal, Tulum and Coba for free, if you stay at Akumal, you can visit and eat at Tulum and Coba.. and if staying at Tulum, you only have access to Coba in addition to your home resort. 👍🏻
@@LuckyLikeIrish yes. So, the website we booked through was Air Canada Vacations. As part of the all inclusive, you get: all meals, drinks, and obviously the accommodations in the hotel. You get non motorized water sport rentals, but jet skis and such are all extra. They do have some food offerings, like tomahawk steaks and lobster for an additonal charge as well as some top shelf drinks. Honestly, you won’t need that, unless that’s your thing !
We only stayed at Akumal, but we visited both. That being said it depends… if you are travelling with children, tulum is more geared towards families. If travelling only with adults, we recommend the adults-only section at Akumal 👍🏻
We had our transportation booked through our vacation package. I would recommend checking out the Facebook group for this hotel - there are a ton of transportation recommendations on there 👍🏻 if all else fails, there are always taxis available 🤷🏼♀️
No, Sian'Kaan is the top hotel at the resort. You can only visit SK if you book your stay there. IT goes like this (you can visit the hotels below on the list): You might be able to get a day pass - check with the front desk. Sian Kaan Luxury Akumal Grand Tulum BP Coba
They all have their bonuses. Coba is cheaper - but is not right on the beach. Tulum is has brand new renovations, but can't access Akumal (not that you necessarily need to). Akumal is beautiful and can visit any other resort on the BP compound. Akumal has the nicest beach too.
this video was filmed Jan 2021. Masks were mandatory in the buffet and encouraged in the lobby. Not sure if they’ve lifted any restrictions since then.
The resort is pretty big. But I’d recommend getting one of buildings 47-51. That’ll put you close to the action, pools and beach is like a 3-5 mins walk. The resort is pretty far away from Cancun Airport. It’ll be about a 1.5 hr ride.
Tulum is more updated and is more family oriented with lots of activities for kids. Akumal is a bit older, but the adults-only section is newer and excellent. The benefit of staying at akumal is that u can visit and eat and drink at Tulum, but not vice versa. Also, akumal has a better beach than tulum 👍🏻

@@WherewegoingNext Thank you, I appreciate your response and again, the videos are fantastic! Happy travels!
Thanks for watching!! Same to you 🙂
Stayed there...amazing hotel...10./10
We loved it too! 👍🏻
Follow our Instagram to see how it is now)
I love your videos!
I love reading comments like this! 🥰🥰 thank you!! ❤️
excellent Job, Thanks ,
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed !! 🤗
You mentioned rocks at the beach, during summer there are also lots of hermit crabs
I saw a lot too! So cute ☺️
We were there in November and really hope to go there again!
It’s so beautiful!! Can’t wait to be back! 😍😍
Thank you the thorough review. We are thinking of booking this place for January. Would like to ask where you got your pcr tests and how was the internet service?
We were not required to do a PCR test when we went, so we are not sure. Most hotels will have a nurse come on site to do the tests. The internet worked great for us! 👍🏻
beautiful
🙌🏻
Great video, but I'm missing the buffet review :(
That video isn’t up yet. We’ll be getting it all ready in a couple weeks!
Thank you very much for your very useful video. A question I ask myself, can we take long walks along the beach over there? Thank you!
Yes, you can walk the beach from Bahia Principe Akumal all the way to BP Tulum.
Great review. Visiting soon. Thank you. Do that have sun screen here?
Yup! You can buy sub screen in the shop. It will a bit more expensive but they have lots to choose from.
Thank you!!! Have a great vacation!
@@WherewegoingNext we are up for anything. I would like some ruins and maybe somewhere to snorkel/cliff jump
hey! loved your video! which one do u prefer the Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal or Bahia Principe Grand Tulum?
I’d prefer Akumal. For the reason that you can visit Tulum if staying at akumal, but not vice versa. The beach is also excellent at akumal.
Thank you!!! 👍🏻👍🏻☺️
Great job! Thank you.
Thanks so much! 🙏🏻 good luck with your decision making - you can’t go wrong with either BP resort. 👍
The quiet pool is only quiet because Canadians can't visit the resort right now without having to quarantine when they return. It's usually busy. In general, the GBP complex is very popular with Canadians. Maybe 60% Canadian, 30% US, and 10% Brits.
Thanks for the hot tips! Hopefully 🇨🇦 can visit again soon! 🤔
Brit's not allowed to visit. Will ASAP.
@@WherewegoingNext also, out of the sit down restaurants, which one did you guys like the most
We only got to visit seafood and Mexican.
@@WherewegoingNext breakfast was ok im assuming? Any chance of Eggs Benedict, French Toast, or Huevos Rancheros?

There is a swim up bar in the pool that's just below the theatre. check the video at 20:35
Travelling here in January and trying to decide on what building would be best.
Thanks
You’re welcome! It’s a great resort, no matter what room you book 🙌🏻👍🏻
me and my girlfriend are planning in going April, 2022. How are the drinks at the bar? And the food?
They are both great! There’s lots of selection of beverages and food offerings! You will love it 👍🏻
We also have a buffet tour of the BP Akumal th-cam.com/video/tYPpvGy36PU/w-d-xo.html
Have u done a review on baha principe luxury amber Dominican 🇩🇴
We miiiiight be heading there in January 2022 to film the Bahia resorts in 🇩🇴!! (Psst.. we are!) 🤫
Does the Bahia Principe (Tulum) have an adult only side as well?
Is the luxury as kid friendly as the coba and other buildings
It doesn't really have any kids splash pad or teen clubs. Tulum would be a much better fit. th-cam.com/video/o-vo8Fy7RI8/w-d-xo.html
Hi! Do you think the beach/water was so clear because you went in January, or would you expect it to be free of much seaweed any time of the year?
Sorry, the ocean and seaweed is very unpredictable. Global warming has changed the ocean a lot in recent years, so you can no longer predict when the seaweed will be worse - it all changes with the tides 🤷🏼♀️
Great review how was the food? Do you have to reserve?
Thank you! The buffet is open all day, but the a la carte restaurants do need reservations (which can be done through the app).
Akumal has a better beach and larger food selection at the buffet 👍🏻
Hope that helps! Have a great trip!
Is there many differences between Akumel and the Tulum hotel?
Yes. Akumal is the "Luxury" resort, and has an adults only area. Although, Tulum has been more recently renovated - and it's looking fresh!! Both are pretty comparable though. If you choose Akumal, you can go visit and "play" at Tulum. This doesn't work the other way around.
Is the adults only bit open to all adults or is it something you need to select when booking?
Yea it’s open to all adults, but if u want to stay in the adults only buildings, you have to book that specifically.
Hi! Between the Bahia Principe Luxury and the Bahia Principe Grand, which would you recommend staying at? In terms of food, aesthetics and such
In terms of aesthetics and food, I would say grand Tulum.
@@kimberlytadeo8651 the food is not substantially different. You’ll be just fine at Tulum. If you really want, you can get a day pass for akumal.

@@WherewegoingNext thank you so much😊
😊
If you stay at this hotel(akumal) do you get name brand alcohol? instead of one of the non-luxury hotels like tulum or coba? Do they just get “shelf” or no name alcohol?
I’m not a huge alcohol aficionado, but I do recall seeing absolut, skyy, and various other brands that I typically see where I’m from in Toronto. You sometimes have to ask specifically for them, otherwise you’ll just get the no name brands.
How was the beach? We wanna go next month but have been hearing about seaweed issues in Mexico?
We went over a year and a half ago, so a lot has changed. We don’t know what the beach looks like lately. The tide is unpredictable, so you can have 2 days of seaweed and 4 days of clear water 🤷🏼♀️ your best bet is to join the Facebook group for this hotel - people who are currently there will post pics of the beach so you can see. But again - it will likely change by the time u go there 🤷🏼♀️
Funny thing if you snorkel at the beach area he visited that is like a lagoon and if you go to the far corner of the blockade you can see sea urchins under the rocks so be aware
True!! I got poked by some urchins! They’re definitely around!
Anyone see Turtle's
@@LS-id5hc not while we were there. Apparently, there are turtle nests that are in action during the right season! Not sure when that is!
Can you request Adults Only side or is that a separate booking process? I don't see it offered on my travel site.
Yes, I believe you can request it when you check in.
