Lucas never stopped messing w/ the originals which were amazing as they were. He kept adding & adding b/c of cgi. I had the vhs which said " the original movies for one last time..." yea over & over. I also thought adding hayden as vadwr was weird. I also hated jedi rocks in jabas palace so unnessesary. The prequels were not good until revenge of the sith. That movie was brilliant & it did put politics of the time in.

For all the years before the prequels, the force ghost was of Sebastian Shaw, the guy who played Vader. He was just cleaned up and not jacked up. In 2004, the image was replaced by Hayden Christensen.

    “I’ve always known.”-Leia
I don’t think she meant she knew Luke was her brother. What she knew was that there was a pull towards him & she could tell that he was her other half. She knew she was drawn to him through love. She just wasn’t clear as to why and how she loved him, especially since she loved Han equally but differently.
I personally absolutely love all three trilogy series. And the shows are really enjoyable too.

Before the prequel’s came out, the original force ghost was an older Anakin Skywalker played by the same actor that played him without his helmet on, Sebastian Shaw. After the prequel’s, in order to connect the past movies with the present movies, they chose to put Anakin as he was before he turned evil. Hence Hayden Christiansen.

"I'll never turn to the Dark Side. You've failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me."
    "So be it... Jedi!"
Fun Fact: The growls and sounds of the Rancor in Jabba's Palace were actually made by a dachsund.
Stage Actor Fact: Ian McDiarmid, a prolific stage actor, based his character's unusual voice on the Japanese method of using your stomach to project yourself. The result was a strange, guttural croak that Lucas decided was perfect.
Hot Take Fact: During the shot in which Salacious Crumb (the small, annoying, rat-like thing that sits with Jabba in his palace) is chewing off C-3PO's eye, Anthony Daniels had a panic attack while in the C-3PO suit. While filming, he didn't actually say his lines (all of his lines were dubbed in post-production anyway), but repeated "Get me up! Get me up!" over and over. This is the take used in the final cut.
Pinocchio's Revenge Fact: It took six people to work the full-sized animatronic of Jabba the Hutt. The puppet fit three men inside -two to operate the arms, head and tongue and another to move the tail. A man lying below the puppet pulled strings to move Jabba's mouth and make his sides heave. And two radio operators controlled the slimy goon's eyes, including pupil dilation, direction and wideness of eyelids. A final crew member was responsible for rubbing gel on the puppet to give Jabba his slimy look.
Revenge Of The Ewok Fact: The Endor shots were filmed near Crescent City, California. Forest work was especially hard on the Ewok actors. Production assistant Ian Bryce arrived on the set one day to find a note from the Ewok actors saying that they had all had enough and they were on their way to the airport. Bryce tried to drive to the airport, but got a flat tire not far from the set. He found another car and was about to leave when the Ewoks' bus pulled up, then all the Ewok actors got off wearing "Revenge Of The Ewok" t-shirts.

He and the creature had a special bond and he hated that it was being mistreated in the care of Jabba. He had a plan to escape with the rancor so it could live free in the open on another planet. Luke killed it the day before they were set to escape. That's why he was heartbroken. Ready to see you get to the next movies. I told you you'd meet those SW haters. They can f*** off at lightspeed. In the original, the three ghosts at the end were Obi Wan, Yoda, and the actor you just saw when Like took Vader's helmet off. What Lucas did was to mess up something already created, establised for decades, and perfect the way it was. Yes, we all get that he was trying to retcon them to fit in with the vastly inferior prequels and the idea was to show the ghost Anakin when he was young and good, but in reality it was just a way to clumsily shoehorn in Hayden Christensen, who looks completely out of place in that shot. Besides, Luke didn't grow up seeing or knowing Hayden's Anakin. He literally just saw his father's face for the first time when Vader's mask was removed, so it would have made far more sense for the force ghost to remain as the happy death-bed-reformed Sebastian Shaw version.

The prequel series really isn't that bad. I think why people don't like it is because 1. It's a little more lighthearted as if Lucas was making it for his grandchildren - so not as dark. 2. There's also a love story involved (Luke & Leia had to come from somewhere) and people didn't want to see that. And 3. This was so anticipated, especially episode 1, that everyone thought it was going to change their life. When it didn't, they were disappointed. I think the high expectations is what made for most of the disappointment.

      Don’t forget
      1. the over cgi which made everything sterile and fake looking compared to the hand made sets and mixture of practical effects and hand made sets and models that made the original trilogy classic
      2. The 3 hour long light saver battles that carried on for too long and ruined the tension, as well were way too choreographed so they lacked the emotional connection the original fights had which why not as much of a spectacle, were physical manifestations of the conflict between the characters
      3. Bad/ poor dialogue and writing including plot holes, writer contrivance, over complicated story arcs and cheesy lines
      4. Doing next to nothing with some of the high mark cast, who were there to fill in seats and appeal to new audience demographics
      5. Massive re-hashing of the original trilogy to fit the prequel story-line,
      6. medichlorians which destroy everything that the force was said to be in Empire Strikes back by Yoda and essentially boils down the force to dragon ball z power levels
I also find the idea that the prequels are more cartoony to appeal to younger people, funny when Attack of the clones has assignations, torture, implied rape and mass murder
and Revenge of the sith has literal genocide and murder of children in it
never mind phantom menace’s massive case of political discussion, cause everyone nows that’s going to get the kids going, hearing about the senate’s no confidence vote and how it pertains to buearocratic removal of the chancellor
      yep kids will love that.

"2. There's also a love story involved (Luke & Leia had to come from somewhere) and people didn't want to see that.”
So everyone loves the leia-Han love story from the original trilogy, in fact it’s one of the biggest love arcs in the franchise, but suddenly no one wants a love story in the prequels?
      Really?
"that everyone thought it was going to change their life. When it didn't, they were disappointed. I think the high expectations is what made for most of the disappointment.”
I can agree that there was massive hype for it and as such the disappointment was greater
but the reason for that hype was because the original trilogy had been almost perfect, back when lucas did not have sole control over everything and was regulated and held to focus by other clans, directors, producers and writers
Again the prequels are hated because of how much they let down everything the original series set down.
No one was excited like they were when the rebels first take on the death stare in a new hope, there was no “oh man the rebels are getting owned” on both moment where you have the imperial walkers shooting down fleeing rebels and blowing up the shield generator in attack of the clones
I will give the final battle between obi wan, Anakin, Emperor and Yoda some tops for being interesting and different, but again went on way too long and lost the tension it was holding.
Christopher lee as Dooku was great but he was poorly used, there was no Luke vs Vader from empire moment between our heroes and him at all
we had to look to the clone wars tv series to give us these moments.

The prequels are not "that bad" compared to the unconnected mess that are the Disney Sequels. But they are still so much worse than the original trilogy. Ewan McGregor can salvage even the worst dialogue, Natalie tried her best, but got even less to work with and Hayden never had a chance. When the Prequels came out, they were hated throughout (maybe excluding kids). Only with time they got somewhat "accepted", mostly through memes and then people convinced themselves that they were fond childhood memories. The prequels were somewhat redeemed by the clone wars show, which did, what everyone wanted to see, but the movies failed to deliver: show how Anakin turned to the dark side.
Yes, not "that bad". Not "p*ssing on the grave" bad as the sequels. But also nowhere near the timeless quality of the originals. Watchable, as one can watch The Room or Birdemic or Trolls 2. To make fun of the dialogue; of the stupid midichlorians; to hate on Jar Jar; to make memes. Fun to watch ironically at least.

Fun Story about the metal bikini. Carrie Fisher had to have it taped down to make sure nothing flashed during filming. She had arranged a raffle for charity among the cast and crew with the winner of the raffle getting the honor of removing the tape at the end of the day. In the interview where Carrie talked about it, she said it was apparently going really well until George Lucas found out about it and shut the whole thing down.

    1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue.
    2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke.
Luke didn't know that until just before then.
    3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they
decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape.
    4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying
to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related.
    5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han.
    6. This was Warrick Davis'/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13.
Willow is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share.😎
    7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast.
    8. A little corn. Hans' reaction to Leia telling him Luke is her brother.
    9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy.
    10. Ford wanted Han to die in this episode.
    11. This is the best of the original 6 George Lucas Star Wars. After this he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly

    Three points.
First, this "update" has three of the worst CGI additions in the series: the singing thing in Jabba's palace, the beak in the sarlaac, and worst of all, Vader's "Nooo". That was so much more impactful when he just did it in silence.
Second, Lando's copilot was speaking a real language. It was a dialect of Kenyan spoken by a native speaker. They say that when the movie was released in Kenya, the theaters were packed with people standing in the aisles just to hear those lines.
Lastly, I don't know what the speeds were in the movie, but this is how they worked in the West End Games rpg. That game had maps of different sector with the various star systems and main routes. The main routes were basically weel travelled up updated paths between the star systems and ship captains could upload the latest updates at the port before leaving, for a fee, to make plotting their course easier.
The maps had times printed on them. This could be hours to days or weeks. This was the travel time along the route at a x1 hyperdrive. Most hyperdrives were from x2 to x4, meaning you multiplied the base number by that to see how long it would take to get to your destination. The Millennium Falcon had a x0.5, very fast, very illegal and unreliable. Backup emergency hyperdrives were x8 to x10. Times could be improved with the navigation skill.

I didn't mind Vader's final "No... No!", to me it remains as impactful, when we hear him change his mind in that moment. I'd replace that with changing Anakin's Force ghost into the young form, THAT really sucks the impact of that moment away from me and it keeps confusing the heck outta new viewers, completely breaking that moment for them too. Otherwise yeah, those CGI bits in the Jabba act of the movie were so unnecessary and they look unnatural.

Return of the Jedi is the first Star Wars movie I ever saw, as a little kid, at a friend’s birthday party. His parents took everyone to the movies (to see this movie) and when back to their house for cake. I was a small kid and had zero idea what I had just seen, but it was fun and exciting and I wanted to be a Jedi after that. This is my favorite of all the Star Wars movies. Thank you for sharing your Star Wars journey with us. I look forward to the rest of the movies with you. And pet those puppies for me!!

The original, before the Special Edition, had someone else appear as Vader at the end. The same actor who played Vader unmasked. This is one thing that annoyed people about the Special Edition.

also the reason they had to use james earl jones for the voice was because the man in the suit had a thick scottish accent like shrek so look at his body movements and imagine that voice instead and the actor that was the emperor was a spry 37 during that time so big props for the makeup department of that time

I remember watching this and thinking they did Boba Fett so dirty cause of how he died. But, a fun fact is that in the Star Wars comic books it shows how he actually survived and escaped from inside the sarlacc pit.

    • @slchance8839
      @slchance8839 ปีที่แล้ว +3

i have yet to find someone to agree with me, but i REALLY liked Fett's "death" into the Sarlacc pit. George Lucas (and I agree) wanted to portray that sometimes sh!t **unpredictably** happens. To me, it gave the OT a "Game of Thrones" kinda reality where you never really know who is going to die and sometimes it wont even be epic....just like real life. I mean, really, i'd love to have cool death, myself, but I may just have a heart attack in traffic....or on the toilet. Very anti-climactic. Elvis died on the toilet.
In fact, Lucas intended for Lando to die (fail to escape the exploding Death Star), but test audiences shot down the idea. George has killed Obi-wan, Yoda, and Biggs and had Lando go traitor. To me, it's a more unpredictable story-telling to think that at any moment, things or PEOPLE can go bad. Or good.

@@slchance8839 Yeah I can def. see that, especially coming from Han, it would've been even more funny if C3PO would've been the one to "accidentally" kill him. I think the main reason why I dislike it because of having more "lore" knowledge to the Mandalorian's, especially when it comes to Boba Fett. I didn't have a complain for Jango though since he died to Mace Windu. So it think it has to do with knowing MORE about Boba Fett than the first trilogy let on.

While Vader was dying, you can hear the sound of blaster shots in the background. That means stormtroopers were fighting over the escape pods. Also during the celebration, on one of the planets (Courrisant) you can see the citizens hoisting dead stormtroopers in the air. That is savage lol.

    One small rant:
I'm not a hardcore fan but my nostalgia is strong with these movies. I grew up watching the originals & even enjoyed the special editions but since Disney got their hands on them they've been tweakin' things & the final straw for me was when they added the "Nooo!" to the Vader saving Luke scene. It is so cringy. It's so much more powerful when you see the struggle & you don't know which side Vader's going to land on.

    • @josceola8979
      @josceola8979 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @pennygadget7328
      @pennygadget7328 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Lucas himself added the "Noooo!!!", unfortunately. Even the last round of more-tweaked Special Editions that premiered under Disney were actually done by Lucas, he just hadn't gotten around to releasing them before the sale. I shudder to think of what else he may have thrown in there if he hadn't let the franchise go.

    • @naiaddore1797
      @naiaddore1797 ปีที่แล้ว

@@pennygadget7328 Ah! Ok, I can understand it a little bit better then & that it wasn't just Disney saying "Let's just add this." I'm not the type for criticizing someone for changing their own work but at the same time Lucas should've had that *one* person around him say, "Whoa! You don't need to change every little thing. Just stop overthinking & let things lie." For example: How many times does Obi-Wan Kenobi's yell at the sand people need to change? Honestly I've almost forgotten what the original sounds like lol.

@@naiaddore1797 JL even mentions how you can read Vader's face in that scene without seeing his face, the stupid "noooo" was so unnecessary.
Imo it's Lucas giving the finger to people clowning on Vader's "noooo" in Episode 3, á la "Oh you hated that? Well have some more assholes!"
Nobody can convince me he doesn't do a lot of stuff at least somewhat out of spite.

Always liked him. They tried to bring the same actor into the Disney Sequels, but the actor was like "Are you gonna give me a real part or am I just a cameo?" And when he realized it was just gonna be a cameo he was like "Nah, I'll stay home."

10:37 I always loved that Luke Force chocked those pigmen. This was back when there were no Sith/Jedi, just Dark/Light Jedi in the franchise, before retconning happened over the years. Before there was really established lines between good/bad force powers as well. When it was how you used those powers not what powers you used.

Jedi invest in *_all_* skill trees.
That's the way the OT always felt to me; the Jedi are the harder build, but the balanced build that will get you farther.
