To install Dekoni Audio’s ear pads for the WH-1000XM5, you must start with the pry tool included in all offerings of WH-1000XM ear pads. Stick the pry tool between the XM5 ear pads and the ear cup and pry away from the headphone. Snap the clips out of the headphone and allow you to detach the ear pad.
For this generation of the Sony WH-1000 series, the ear pads are not symmetrical on both sides. You are able to discern the difference between the two earpads by locating the tiny pins on the back of the earpads. The pins match up with the holes inside the Sony WH1000XM5 earcups.
It's also important to note where the clips are on the mounting side of the earpad. There are clips located at the top and bottom of the ear pad, the centered clip will be attached at the top of the ear cup.
Once you have deciphered the ear pad placement on the XM5, snap the ear pad clips into the ear cup. Make sure they are attached correctly by pressing around the entire ear pad to confirm all clips are seated correctly. Double-check your progress by pulling the ear pad gently away from the ear cup.

Engineering note: For this iteration of the Sony WH-1000XM5, the pause/play functionality, when removing your ear cups, is checked by capacitance. When the dust cover releases the capacitor, it will assume the user is wearing the headphone. If we increased the depth of the ear pad to make ears no longer touch the interior of the headphone, it would break functionality. Because of this, we could not offer ear pads with greater depth for comfort purposes.

I wish you made these in other colors. I have the gray, Playstation 1-colored version and they'd look weird with black pads.

Yes it does. Our ear pads are compatible with all of the features of the XM5 and receive similar tolerances on ANC as the stock ear pads.
Hi dekoni. Can you tell me if your pads are deeper than the stock ones. My ears touch the inner fabric and I'm wondering if yours have more depth to prevent this. Thanks
The dimensions of the dekoni earpads are similar to the stock earpads.
Your guide mission: remove Sony XM5 ear pad: gently pry the ear pad careful not to take it off very fast and don't force them out or else you may damage the clips reality: smash then force them out then just put that on the ear pad directly left and right or both same

I cleaned mine using this video and now mine dont aound the same. When i move my head around the seal breaks and ruins my sound quality. I feel like i messed up the cushioning cause the pads dont bounce back amymore. They're more flat. I've o ly had these for 3 months 😢

You may use a flat head screwdriver or a metal butter knife. Please note that you might scratch the chassis of the headphone. We recommend to exercise caution when using metal objects to pry the earpad off.
No, it does not work this way. The included tool snapped immediatelly. Now I have new Dekoni pads and no way how to change them.
Hello! If you have snapped the tool, it is still usable. The end piece that snaps is a thin piece of plastic, it is designed this way to get underneath the clip. Unfortunately thin plastic does not mean strong plastic. It will still be usable, just pay attention as to not pierce the leatherette material.

IMPORTANT!
ANC in ANY headphones will be worst on custom/not original ear pads,headpnoes are tuned to original pads,you can replace them as you can see but value of XM5 will go down,i check that on my XM5 and XM4,that is a Sony's dick move because ear pads cost 60 quid EACH
The amount of sweat i found in my ear cups was alarming
On the stock pads? I tested the XM5 on a six hour flight. The air conditioning was subpar so the earpads got real sticky and sweaty on the original ear pads.

But..If Goober Dude had only replaced a Earcup One At a Time..and check out the configuration of that old earcup and see how it lined up after you took it off..All that other bs he said is 100% not needed. One at a Time..Check out the older cup placement plastic pins..line up ur new earcup the same way with the old earcup u just took off…is a heck of a lot easier. Dear Sony since you will be asking for more money for the Sony XM6’s ..Why not make a Premium Looking Set of Headphones! Besides These Cheapo Plastics and Faux Leather. I am glad Amazon has Real Sheepskin Leather Earcup’s Replacements. And also why not All makers of Headphones do what Apple and Sonos have done..Magnetic Earcups. Make live easier of cleaning up our earcups.
