It is a good idea to loosen the fill plug before draining BUT LEAVE IT IN PLACE so you do not make a mess. The fluid level is above the hole when engine is not running.
Great DIY and detail - much appreciated. I was reading that PDK recalibration might be needed after this service, but wasn’t sure if this is necessary? Did you happen to do it?
The only calibration I did was running through the trans modes to open those solenoids and move oil around. Everything I did was captured on this video and there were no issues experienced on my end. Trust your gut for sure but this is how I accomplished the change. Best of luck! Be well, D

Thank you!!! I just finished fluid and filter change for mine, 2021 macan base. Opened the filling plug, then drained the rest, total 4.750 L. Then replaced the filter, and started filling up. I had a buddy helping with a little tube and a funnel from the top of the car. After 4.3L it started overflowing. Then started the car, changed gears and topped off another 200ml, total of 4.5L. I did not have the icarsoft tool, so how do i get the other 250ml in?. What I end up doing was to take the car off the ramps , then use only the driver side ramps, which tilted the whole car towards the passenger side. Then opened the fill plug, no fluid was coming out since the car was on an angle, added the rest 250ml, closed the plug and that's it. 4.75L out - 4.75 in. Please let me know if you think I did something wrong. Hope this helps other diy'ers. Thanks again for the detailed video!
Did the PDK oil flush last month. A flush (drain and fill only) only requires a little less than 5 litres. In my case, 4.68 litres came out and at 40 degrees Celsius, 4.68 litres went back in before it started to drip. To do a complete fluid change, the PDK pan needs to be removed, you can also examine the magnet for metal filings and change the internal filter.
Not sure you need to change the internal filter (dropping the pan) on an automatic transmission until passing 100k miles. Do PDK/DSGs grind off a lot of debris by design, is that why?
Hi D Wray, great stuff, appreciate your vids. I've got a 2.slow that I'm doing this on in a couple of days. Q about going through the gears (this is going to sound stupid but), the process is to go through P, R, N, D, not through all the forward gears (with tires rolling). Figure I can't be too thorough. Keep up the great work!
Good day, About to use motul DCTF 5.5 liter. My question is there’s 1 liter from the factory oil remaining in the transmission, is it ok to have it mixed the with motul technology? Thank you for your prompt response
So long as both oils are suited to the application, this shouldn't cause any harm whatsoever. It's rare to get a 100% purge in any fluid change - especially in transmission systems. Best of luck!
How sensitive are these PDKs with overfilling? I filled it running and it started throwing codes! Shut it off and checked off, and got about 1/2-3/4 qt.
Thanks so much! 🙏 you’re the best, perfect diy video. I did my oil change watching your video. I had been putting off the pdk fluid and filter change for a while, I think with this video I can tackle it.
I know you can. Like I had said, it's a slightly elevated oil change with more expensive fluids. So long as you're smart about getting the fluid back in, I don't think there's much else to it.
I was scratching my head as I've watched other videos about this topic and no one explains how you determine the temperature. Voila! I have one of these PORII scanners. I didn't know it could do that. Thanks!
Thank you for making the time for this video. Q for you, after u reach the 40 degrees and turn off the car, do I need to leave spilling the oil out until it stop dripping then close it with the plug? Thank you again.
Once you hit that temp you can go ahead and replace the plug. Dripping is fine. Good luck with your project and thanks for the feedback and engagement!
You can do that if you're replacing the gasket etc. Not a required component of the 40k but you certainly can do it if you have any concerns about the current state of the seal etc.
This looks so much easier than the new VW Beetle. NO room, no inlet for fluid, need to pump it through the drain plug, then run through the gears as well and refill when the drain plug is on fire. Just bought a Macan to replace the Beetle.
In this video, D Wray's Garage used a home "lift" system with all 4 wheels free in the air. He did Not use ramps. See the 3:07 minute mark to confirm this. Another option for doing this service is to use 4 high-quality jackstands.
so, how many total oil did you end up using? should i really get 7L of the oil for this or 6L will be plenty. i have base macan and i don't know if the gearbox is smaller in it like the engine and brakes lol.
Crazy thought/thinking. If you're draining the PDK for the 1st time. Why do you measure EXACTLY what came out, and refill with Exact amount and call it a Day. (Add .5 to 1 oz more; for the oil filter that absorbed some fluid) That then would be a pretty much stop on. 1 oz over/under won't kill your PDK.
Oh yeah!! I thoroughly enjoyed this video. So much so, that I decided to subscribe.. Thank you for being diligent, while precisely explaining each procedure.
Buy 6L to have available but you'll likely need around 5. Because this isn't a complete emptying and removal of the pan, some old fluid will remain in there.
Two questions. When you run through the gears are you using the paddle shifter and moving through all six gears and reverse with your foot on the brake? And when you do the "fill to spill to 40 degrees" do you just let the Macan idle and slowly fill with oil until the oil temp hits 40 degrees?
Great questions. In hindsight, I only opened up R, N and D when running thru the selector. So, I suppose it's likely that there was still some 'old' fluid that became mixed into the fresh from a couple of the valves. I filled to spill cold, then idled to temp and topped up to spill again - letting the flow slow back to a trickle - before buttoning it back up.
Hi mate great video and fair play for taking on that task. I done an ATF change on my Mercedes E350 last year which is very similar only the manual recommended removing the pan and replacing the filter, pan gasket and one time use pan bolts. The difference in the 7g gearbox is you have to fill through the drain hole which is a PITA so I used a motive pressure bleeder and a length of clear tubing with an adapter to screw into the pan and a tap to turn of the flow of atf when needed. The process is then the same as the porsche were you give an initial fill 7ltrs in my case then you run the engine cycling through the gears getting the atf temp up to spec which I used an infra-red thermometer to check the temp then fill to spill. Bit of a daunting job but good sense of achievement when done. Keep up the good work. Mick 👍🍻👏
I know the VW Golf R has a refill in the drain hole process so I just sold the car instead of dealing with it 😜. I know some do change out the entire pan and bolts but I didn't regret my approach when I saw how pure this fluid came out. Had it been 'sparkly', I may have been going more invasive before too long. Stay strong in lockdown, mate 👊💪
They do offer an ATF that may be specced for a Macan. If you put your car into their site it will show you what products/fluids they make for it. If it shows under trans, you'll be good.
Great video . Is driving with a minor oil leak dangerous ? I have been told by my dealer which is the sole Porsche importer in my country that i have an oil leak . They cannot clearly identify the origin and were so hesitant that i kept driving for a year now till they finally claimed it is the transmission oil . Can getting the job done be more risky than taking no action at all ? Sounds silly i know but i lack trust .
I chose not to. I saw no seepage or other evidence of an issue, and was at ~30k miles anyway, so just changed out the fluid and filter. Filter was in great shape too which validated my comfort in staying the course. Whatever you decide, best of luck!
40k/4yrs is the book and time was about right. I'd be willing to bet that this was done not too long ago also based on the condition of that fluid. I did it because I wanted to have the car 'sorted' to best of my knowledge and for peace of mind. I just acquired it.
Really great video and very well explained - hope you didn't fire cameraman as video quality generally very good! Also impressed with mirror reflections on garage floor around 10 minutes into video!
Thank you for the kind words. Being a one-man band in projects like this can lead to being spread too thin to get them all just right. I take giving good pics and audio seriously as I have suffered thru enough bad productions to know how painful it can be. I haven't fired myself yet!

The main filter is in the pan, and it doesn't really make much sense to replace the oil without that internal filter.
Have you/ or will you do a brake pad and sensor service on a Macan? I would like to see that, thanks bro.
I will but my stuff is so solid ATM. I'll get something P-car brakes out before long.

I have no complaints, issues or clunking/overheating. Would do again on a heartbeat. Pentosin makes great fluids too. Best of luck with your project.
