I was just telling my girlfriend about this car, about my 1975 Mitsubishi Galant GRS GTO that I had when I was stationed in Tokyo, Japan. It was the first car I bought there and it was MINT! I only paid $500 for it in 1983 from another USAF G.I. who was shipping out back to the US. He let me pay him $100 a month for 5 monhts!!! LOL! That car was in-cred-ible!!! Amazing fast! loved that car!!!

I gotta say, some of these Americans with the older imported Japanese cars are some of the most passionate petrol heads I've ever seen! Simply amazing, can't wait for the next video!
Nice ride! This is just one reason why I like Mitsubishi. They're cars are in a class by itself. Stands out from the rest. From 3000GT, Starion, Galant VR4, all the Evos, Eclipse and many others. Always a little different but reminds you of something else you've seen before but not exactly, and this makes it captivating. Up to today a lot of people see my 1g Eclipse and wonder what is that. Some say old Evo or 240sx.
I've just found this channel and I'm so happy that there is a channel like this. Petrolicious isn't like so many other car-channels on TH-cam. It doesn't try to assimilate to what the average TH-cam consumer wants, it's just classy and very well made. Therefore I really enjoy your your films and I'm glad there are so many more to discover!
Beautiful, awesome car... I love it!! Japanese cars from this era are so creative and all over the place. Some American styling influence, some Italian, some German, already some homegrown styling cues from the still-young Japanese industry... and the engine sounds (and looks) INCREDIBLE too!
as a boy growing up, my dad's daily driver was a 1980 mitsubishi galant sigma sedan. it served the family faithfully for several years and this vid made me miss it
My absolute favourite old car, love the Galant. Especially the GTO MR in orange with black stripe. Here in Australia it was known as the Mitsubishi Galant....The colt was a small hatchback like the civic back then. There were a lot of Galants on the roads here before but I think they have been snapped up by enthusiasts within the past 15 years as they are rarely seen anymore. Unfortunately this absolute beauty of a coupe slantback wasn't imported here we did have the 4 door sedan, I think a 2 door sedan and the station wagon as they were manufactured here in Australia by Chrysler/Mitsubishi. A lot of the Galants had a Chrysler and a Mitsubishi badge on them, the later models were also manufactured here but they were called Mitsubishi Sigma. These were just about the most common cheap secondhand car around back a decade and a half, but I rarely see them anymore. I was interested in getting one just recently because I had enough of front wheel drive shitboxes and wanted a rear wheel drive four cylinder, but to my dismay they are very rare and expensive now.....SHIT. The next "Galant" was built here too, but here in Australia we altered it to be wider than the Japanese variant that had a four cylinder efi hemi in it. Here it was called the Mitsubishi Magna. These were ok, but they are front wheel drive shit so I'm not that interested in them.
Wow, I can't believe I stumbled on this video. I owned this model in this very colour in the UK in the early 80's. What trip down memory lane. I swapped my very 1st car an MGB Roadster for it with a friend as I needed a "proper" 4 seater. To be honest I was lucky to keep my licence it seemed so easily quick for its day, fortunately speed detection was less sophisticated then. One of my oldest friends still talks about it. One of if not my very favorite car that I ever owned. Thanks so much for the video.

I remember when 1960s Japanese cars were poor novelty copies of the 'real cars' made in the USA, Germany and England. Thin rusting sheet metal, thin chrome, under-powered, blown headgaskets, oil leaks, plastic and vinyl interiors that would fall apart in a year. (Like the faux cars made in China today) Then out came the 240Z and the Celica.........the world changed.
+thepro08 japanese cars are not faster und definitly are not cheaper. there was a time in the 90th, when they were more advanced, but that is over. german cars have a different philisophy then japanes cars. a bmw or audi always drives like one, not depending on the model and engine (at least before this new 2 series van). japanese cars tend to be either pretty good are just a means of transportation.

Remember the nation had technologies and industrial capabilities to build war machines like tanks, battleships, and fighter planes in 1930s. China started opposite way, they started making poor quality goods for the world and now they make war machines for themselves.

I had a buddy in high school who was fixing up colts. He had a 73 I think. We all had Celicas, 510s and Zs but his car was just as nice and more rare. Very nice car. Keep it up. I'm resto/modding a 74 Celica right now.
I got my license in 73 my friends dad was Sales manager for local Mitsi dealership we went with him to Manfield track to test drive this Colt was the coolest awesome car loved them ever since.

Since Mitsubishi has stopped to sell Galants in Germany in the early 2000s, the sight of a sedan from Mitsubishi has become a really rare thing, especially since they stopped selling the Lancer Series in 2015. Galant always was an impressive car like an audi a4 or BMW 3 Series.
Good job by Petrolicious as always, finding an unusual and desirable old car. And for those thinking there is a ripoff of a Toyota Celica, the Galant was in production a year earlier than the Toyota.
That car is unique. I want one of those. One that is rare like it, but not many people lay their eyes on, until they actually see them in the road. The sound of that engine is just stunning.
I had Plymouth (Mitsubishi) Arrows that seemed like a later version of this maybe. ? They were good cars, a little awkward looking but still I liked the way they looked but they weren't nearly as good looking as this model. This car sounds really good too.

+Dethmeister Yeah, a bit confusing as Mitsubishi called it's Lancer "Colt" when Chrysler started importing them in early 70s, but the Japanese "Colt" is based on the Gallant platform which is a bit larger than the Lancer, which the later "Arrow" was based on. So this car is Gallant based and the Arrow was Lancer based, two different cars that just happen to share a hatchback/fastback design that were similar in proportions.
+05gtdriver Oh yeah, I looked it up after I posted. I wish I had kept my old cars. I also had 2 early 70's Opel Manta A's, 1 after the other. That's a car I really wish I had kept. My brother had a first gen Mercury Capri and later a first gen Celica Coupe. Oh yeah and my sister had an early 70's Corona Hardtop Coupe (US).
+Dethmeister Don't we all regret letting go of a car that at the time was "just a car"? I've owned 10 Capris from 1981 to 2005 (although they stopped being daily drivers in the mid 90s. Amazing what all these "mini" pony cars go for nowadays. A clean example will fetch $6-8,000 easily and aren't going to be getting cheaper :-( Cheers!
Galant's have always been my favorite car, and particularly the 1st generation GTO's and FTO's even though each generation has it's merits. Some people don't understand how we can love these cars that have transitioned from RWD to AWD to FWD, but there's just something about the experience driving a Galant with a 4/5 speed on a twisting road that's really hard to match personally. A classmate of mine asked me the other day what car I would buy if I had a million dollars so I showed him this video and said "A Gally GTO with the Astron 1600 in Bright Orange", I made him a fan of these and he's the biggest Mustang fan I know :D

Nice ride, and footage... but the overhyped commentary should be taken with a grain of salt. I know plenty of vintage/classic Mitsubishi owners and we do not have an issue finding parts and keeping our cars running, because there IS a cult following and many forums where we do not need to learn Japanese... LOL! Even so, many of our fellow Mitsubishi owners, whom are Japanese, communicate with us in plain English. BTW the engine in this car is not original to what the GS-R came with, the larger Mitsu Astron 2.6l has been swapped in. Great engine, especially with the twin side drafts.
Back in 1980 in Kiwi land my father brought my mother one of these. I was two years away from getting my drivers license and already a ragging petrol head, sooooo I was relegated to learning to drive in my Fathers Company Ford Escort Van though on the odd occasion I got to drive the GTO and for a 15 year old this was quiet frankly an amazing car for that time!...
Brian Sipe. Doesnt exactly count when its a government vehicle. You couldnt sell of buy a postal van in the private sector because it lacks required features. The common Grummans used in the US and Canada lack safety features that were requirex of retail vehicles even back when they were sold.

The close ups are nice dont get me wrong, but i want an actual 360 of the car, a full view of the out and in of the car, i wish this channel would focuse less on the cinematic point of view and at least actually show the car o.o
Looks like a mix between the end of a 70 Shelby GT350 and the front of a 72 skyline. Best part of both world if you ask me, and that's a full win seeing how beautiful it is now fully restored. Nice work.

I owned this car back in the 80s. it handled like a dream and had amazing power to weight ratio for its time. This made me love mitsubishi more than toyota even now. Before this, I had a newer 78 toyota corona 2000.
Actually I am not really sure he is quite correct saying the brand is a Colt, that actually is simply the model name along with the Gallant name. The brand is who made the car, and that is Mitsubishi. Pity about those horrid and stupid front guard mounted (Japanese style) mirrors. It sure sounds great but hey it does have a lovely set of side draught carbies and ram tubes. It is always going to sound great with that kind of set up.
Man that engine sounds exactly how an engine should sound. To me real car enthusiasts are guys like this. A lot of people mistakenly call themselves car enthusiasts when really they only care for a specific type of car. When a real enthusiast finds appreciation in every time. Even as something as obscure as a Galant. Even though Galants have unironically influenced the JDM scene by being a lot of big names first car.

I think Mitsubishi was trying to compete with the Skyline GTR during that period. No wonder the shape of the car seemed familiar. Great UNIQUE car!!

The Colt has very classic proportion and a design that will last decades. It's amazing restoration, and the wheels look really awesome.

Own a later variant of the Galant and thankfully, they've retained some of that old school charm that brings in waves of smiles on a curvy road.

I was just enjoying the video and thinking about how much I'd love driving this and then incredibly watched you drive by where I grew up and out on to sunrise highway where I used to drive my first car... Man that was surreal.

I have owned 12 cars so far. The first one I bought was the Galant GTO.It's beautiful, powerful and one of my favorite cars.

Since Mitsubishi has stopped to sell Galants in Germany in the early 2000s, the sight of a sedan from Mitsubishi has become a really rare thing, especially since they stopped selling the Lancer Series in 2015. Galant always was an impressive car like an audi a4 or BMW 3 Series.

Good job by Petrolicious as always, finding an unusual and desirable old car. And for those thinking there is a ripoff of a Toyota Celica, the Galant was in production a year earlier than the Toyota.

That car is unique. I want one of those. One that is rare like it, but not many people lay their eyes on, until they actually see them in the road. The sound of that engine is just stunning.
I had Plymouth (Mitsubishi) Arrows that seemed like a later version of this maybe. ? They were good cars, a little awkward looking but still I liked the way they looked but they weren't nearly as good looking as this model. This car sounds really good too.

+Dethmeister the arrow is a different model....in manila the arrow was called celeste.....the years when there were celestes, there were also galants...so they are different :D
+Dethmeister Yeah, a bit confusing as Mitsubishi called it's Lancer "Colt" when Chrysler started importing them in early 70s, but the Japanese "Colt" is based on the Gallant platform which is a bit larger than the Lancer, which the later "Arrow" was based on. So this car is Gallant based and the Arrow was Lancer based, two different cars that just happen to share a hatchback/fastback design that were similar in proportions.
+05gtdriver Oh yeah, I looked it up after I posted. I wish I had kept my old cars. I also had 2 early 70's Opel Manta A's, 1 after the other. That's a car I really wish I had kept. My brother had a first gen Mercury Capri and later a first gen Celica Coupe. Oh yeah and my sister had an early 70's Corona Hardtop Coupe (US).

I've owned 10 Capris from 1981 to 2005 (although they stopped being daily drivers in the mid 90s. Amazing what all these "mini" pony cars go for nowadays. A clean example will fetch $6-8,000 easily and aren't going to be getting cheaper :-(

Galant's have always been my favorite car, and particularly the 1st generation GTO's and FTO's even though each generation has it's merits. Some people don't understand how we can love these cars that have transitioned from RWD to AWD to FWD, but there's just something about the experience driving a Galant with a 4/5 speed on a twisting road that's really hard to match personally. A classmate of mine asked me the other day what car I would buy if I had a million dollars so I showed him this video and said "A Gally GTO with the Astron 1600 in Bright Orange", I made him a fan of these and he's the biggest Mustang fan I know :D
Now do the American GTO! I vote for a Royal Bobcat.

Nice ride, and footage... but the overhyped commentary should be taken with a grain of salt. I know plenty of vintage/classic Mitsubishi owners and we do not have an issue finding parts and keeping our cars running, because there IS a cult following and many forums where we do not need to learn Japanese... LOL! Even so, many of our fellow Mitsubishi owners, whom are Japanese, communicate with us in plain English.
BTW the engine in this car is not original to what the GS-R came with, the larger Mitsu Astron 2.6l has been swapped in. Great engine, especially with the twin side drafts.

I was two years away from getting my drivers license and already a ragging petrol head, sooooo I was relegated to learning to drive in my Fathers Company Ford Escort Van though on the odd occasion I got to drive the GTO and for a 15 year old this was quiet frankly an amazing car for that time!...

Brian Sipe. Doesnt exactly count when its a government vehicle. You couldnt sell of buy a postal van in the private sector because it lacks required features. The common Grummans used in the US and Canada lack safety features that were requirex of retail vehicles even back when they were sold.

Petrolicious has actually caused me to go on a hunt for a 1970s Toyota Celica for a while now and that is purely because my father once owned one .. I owned this car back in the 80s. it handled like a dream and had amazing power to weight ratio for its time. This made me love mitsubishi more than toyota even now. Before this, I had a newer 78 toyota corona 2000.
Actually I am not really sure he is quite correct saying the brand is a Colt, that actually is simply the model name along with the Gallant name. The brand is who made the car, and that is Mitsubishi. Pity about those horrid and stupid front guard mounted (Japanese style) mirrors. It sure sounds great but hey it does have a lovely set of side draught carbies and ram tubes. It is always going to sound great with that kind of set up.

Man that engine sounds exactly how an engine should sound. To me real car enthusiasts are guys like this. A lot of people mistakenly call themselves car enthusiasts when really they only care for a specific type of car. When a real enthusiast finds appreciation in every time. Even as something as obscure as a Galant. Even though Galants have unironically influenced the JDM scene by being a lot of big names first car.
