Even sadder, the Ernie story might not be true. McGucket hasn't been in any fit state to hold down a job for decades and he didn't look anywhere close to retirement age before his decline, so I doubt he had a retirement party. I think he may have just decided that a random guy was his work friend from a combination of brain damage and extreme loneliness.

Considering that the ending credits of _Weirdmaggedon_ showed him and his son fishing, it's pretty clear he got that wish. He pretty much deserves a happy ending after all he endured, plus it's sort of a best of both worlds considering he's still his kooky self, but far FAR more sane. He's just an eccentric old man living the life.

A few things I thought about whole watching this. So I'd like to think that the show of GF is the time frame of Fiddleford JUST getting settled into Gravity Falls. As in everybody accepts this dude is now the local coot and deals with it. But in reference to his own decline I'd say this is almost his manic peak in terms of the mind. He says his son hadnt visited him for 'months' and I think that only supports the fact that this is the worst he's ever been. (Where the forgotten memories tape falls in on this timeline of "Yeroo Jerkstevy gursmartov"? I have no idea.) But in this time he's built several highly advanced and destructive robots, won a lottery without realizing it, made a entire voice changing distillery out of a freaking broken down car, and learned how to make his own sasparilla and just in general...you know, SURVIVE. I find it incredible that Mcgucket was still able to put his broken mind to use in order to achieve his insane goals. I saw another commenter here say the same thing (@ItsChevnotJeff) and I couldnt agree more looking back at this compilation
ngl I loved him from the beginning, mostly for his humor but he's always been one of my favorite characters just because he's quirky. I tend to be odd and I don't think like everyone else so maybe I felt similar in a weird way lol
One of my favourite bits is in the body swap episode. He's walking down the street just going "McGucket McGucket McGucket McGucket" as he walked. I don't even know why. It just made me laugh

However in said episode, we learn he was once a brilliant scientist who saw something so terrible that he created a memory erasing gun to get rid of that memory (as well as finding said society to help the townsfolk who are traumatized by the weirdness of Gravity Falls). Unfortunately he kept using it so much that he drove himself mad. Ironically enough? The memory that traumatized him *never went away,* so he was frying his brain for nothing.
Remember when we all thought old man macguccet was just senile? Now I just cant understand how he was still able to keep a job after he lost his memories, unless that was just sloppy writing.
