    I'm about set to make a balancing arbor for my Parker Majestic wheels. Thanks for a great video.

      Thanks Rustinox, Forget about the balance, I just need more time in the shop. I want to retire but the Bank still wants it's money back.

    Thanks Cam, today I picked up a used Targa surface grinder which is in need of a balancing arbor. I hope that mine comes out as nicely as yours.

    Nice finishes on the arbor. I built mine a couple of years ago, I should check it to make sure that it has not gone out of alignment. I made it out of a piece of Stress Proof with is 1144 steel, I hope that it has sayed straight. Thanks for sharing.

      G'Day Steven, always worth checking. All steels will move to some degree when they are worked.

    Haven’t watch all of this yet but so relevant as I just bought a Brown & Sharpe 2B. I also need to make a balancing system for the wheels. Suppose I need to watch your previous video first to get some relevance.

      Ok, that was good stuff Cam. How did you balance the wheel in the end? You adding weight somehow or removing it from somewhere on the wheel hub?

      G'Day Willem, yep I thought about buying adjustable but couldn't wait for the postage delays so knocked one up fairly quickly.

    Well done Cam!
    I have the same kind of hubs on my surface grinder. Can be a challenge getting the balance right.
    I found an app for my phone that measures vibration.
    I run the app with the phone resting on the wheel guard as a sanitary check before starting my grind.
    Cheers,
    Gary

      Thanks Gary, I'll check out the app. I would be keen to do a check before and after. Can you send me the name of the app that you use. Lots of them in the store but would rather use one on recommendation. Hope you are travelling well and enjoying time in the shop.

    How are those balancing weights stay on their race? Is there a ball being pushed by the set screw towards the higher diameter way? Maybe two balls?

    Nice arbor, but I have a question. Did you drill the pin wrench holes on the arbor nut to precise matching depths? It would seem a variation in depth of those holes would throw the balance off.

    • @camatbattler2233
      @camatbattler2233  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi B Bumpy, yep they were both the same depth. I used the digital read out on the quill to set the depth.

      @@camatbattler2233 I figured as much given the care taken on the arbor. Just a thought I had while watching at 2am. I got a good deal on a 40 year old surface grinder that's hardly been used but it's missing the nut that holds the disc on. The nut has a 1-1/8 -16 LH thread and I can't find one anywhere. The company wants $600 for one so I figured I'd try & make one out of Durabar.

      @@bbumpy4523 Yep they know they are the only stockist for their parts and they charge accordingly. 40 years sitting on a shelf they want interest and more. If you have the skills just make one up.

    Hi Can, 14mm x 18 TPI ? just a bit confused, you could have cut a 1.5mm pitch just as easily, why the 18 tpi?.

    • @camatbattler2233
      @camatbattler2233  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day 1ginner1, yeah I could have done the 1.5mm pitch and it would have just cleared the Diam 12mm shaft on the minor diameter. The shaft thread on the Grinder spindle is 18 tpi and the wheel lock nut is 16 tpi. I wanted to keep the same thread type on the Arbor. I will be making up the new hub next that I showed in the Video and the threads will need to match the existing imperial components on the grinder. As I have a metric lathe I have to re-set all the change gears to suit imperial, its just as easy to do it now and cut the 18 tpi on the arbor and have it all set up ready for the new Hub.

    M14 x 18 Tpi??? What kind of mm pitch is that?

    • @camatbattler2233
      @camatbattler2233  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, even M14 fine would have put the core under 12mm so went for 18 TPI. Diam 14 was the only size that would allow the Hub to fit through and allow the 12mm shaft size. If you were to watch the rest of the video you would have seen the updated drawing with the revised thread specification.

      G'Day Richard, yeah it looks worse on camera than it does looking at it. I use CRC as a lubricant and it doesn't take much for it to burn off. It does however keep the good wife away because she can't stand the smell from the fumes. No there's an idea, now if I could just bottle it, I'd make a fortune.
