Carissa, Iwan, Frankie & Albi
Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.
Your show is the best one of its kind on TH-cam as far as I can see. It is so restful and deeply satisfying to watch everything you both do in creating your corner of paradise with your pets and chickens, birds and wildlife. Your film work and photography is brilliant, and so is your choice of background music. It’s my favourite show for finding peace and getting back to the earth… my favourite place. I’m sure everyone feels the same. Thank you so much.
I second that!!!
Totally agree. One of my favorites channels on You Tube.
Greetings from Brazil😊😊
I third that ❤
Same!
❤ agree, easy going, enjoyable watching, no clickbait and endless chatter, ❤
The 5 minute mark was just pure magic!! hahaha 🥰🥰🥰🥰
My little dog loved to have radishes, cucumber and bell peppers. I had to buy them for her to add to her dry dog food. A happy dog is a special friend
Your life looks so simple and peaceful. So happy for all of you❤
So sorry Ali passed away 🙏🌟 I love your veggie gardens and the sky time lapses are stunning! ❤ As always, I love your illustrations👍😊👍 ❣️Adorable pets and farm animals❣️
That butterfly is beautiful it was probably getting the moisture off your skin. You might consider putting a shallow dish (a terracotta pot saucer) with some fairly flat stones and water in it. When it's very hot they look for moisture...probably why it was in the greenhouse. I think people forget they need water also ❤
Sop sorry for the loss of your chicken. 😢 Even our feathered flock are a part of the family. Love watching your relaxing vlogs! Thank you❤
Always marvel at how you manage to instigate a feeling of relaxation and calm in your videos! There’s never any urgency to your projects, the job gets done in a serene fashion❤️
The music, silences and soundtrack of your videos are usually as beautiful as the images that accompany it. Well done! 😊
Thank you Pedro!
beautiful day on the land... my dream... some work, some drawing, a silly jumping dog, a gorgeous butterfly... thanks for sharing with us
So sorry about your chicken, Allie was very friendly. You are very talented Carissa and your butterfly picture was beautiful. X
I am sorry for the loss of your pet friend, is always hard to say goodbye to ones who lived with you every day ❤
I just love the calm and gentle creativity of your channel and life! Hugs from California!
Always well filmed and beautifully produced content - definitely feel good vibes when watching. Well done to you and your lovely pets. Excellent clip of the pepper and Diogo - magic!!!
😂 Diogo is such an amazing dose of serotonin! I love watching him be so happy!! 😍🥰 you guys are the best calming medicine to watch. Thank you! ♥
The famous Jumping Dog.😊. He’s lovely.❤
I can never get too much Diogo! More is always better!
Love the drone shots as I'm always lost on where things are located
Love all your pets and your butterfly drawing is spectacular. You really are talented. Love your channel guys.❤ sorry about your chicken too even their little lives matter!
Carissa you are an absolut artist! Love to see your vídeos, because you never miss the plasticit, the calmness the poetry in everything!
Thank you! ☺️
Looks like the olives are beautiful this year? Your flowers are so beautiful. So sorry about your chicken Ali. They have such great personalities. We get so attached. They become part of the famly. I love watching the pets sleep on each other.
Alby is such a Superstar. The raised beds look nice all together. Everything is looking good, happy animals and happy flowers and gardens!
Wow brilliant raindrops and cloudscapes, breathtaking! Thanks !!
Your homestead is looking really beautiful A lot of hard work and it shows. Your drawing of the swallow tailed butterfly is gorgeous
I love seeing your dogs bouncing about. They are so happy. ❤good luck
Oh my! Diogo is just a cartoon character 🤣🤣🤣🤣such a fun!!!❤
The smell of rain after a long, dry period is called PETRICHOR and is the most beautiful aroma!!
Yes it is..... Fond memories rush back in those moments.
You folks were the first channel I ever watched...and I'm still watching! Love your pets and all the other "wild" life around and about.
Ahh thank you! ❤️❤️
Aww sad but she had lived her best chicken life RIP Ali. The shape of the veg garden looks good on the areal shots 😊. Loved the butterfly 🦋 sketch watching you draw is so inspirational. The clip of you drawing against the backdrop of the cabin had me thinking 🤔 it would look amazing with a beautiful patterned mosaic in true Clarissa style perhaps a good use of any old bits of tile and an interesting autumn / winter project (it's not like you have loads of other projects to do 😂) Looking forward to seeing the cabin come together in upcoming video's 😀. Much love from a wet South Wales 🏴 x
Good afternoon to you. Another garden work done. I love it. Thankyou for a amazing drone video. The olives look good. I love the way the dogs enjoy you and the love you give them. I always enjoy your videos. Keep going. Regards Namibia. ❤❤❤❤
Love seeing you both work with nature. Changing of the seadons. I love The dogos bouncing around and are always happy. Cats always majestic ✨️ i can't wait to see more of the cabin ❤ you guys work together so well. And lastly, im so glad the fires were mo in danger to you guys in the end and blessed to those it affected 🙏
Love the Sky scenes, plants, insects, birds, cats and dogs! Your garden is very beautiful!Your video quality is great!
Thank you very much!
great choice of music to end.... love watching you guys, very inspiring and authentic....
Beautiful shots of your homestead. I loved the butterfly close-up and your drawing!
Very productive video. I love the drawing of the butterfly!
Love your show, your animals, admire your hard work and Carissa's artwork! PS. Please post a link where I can purchase a Frankie T shirt. Thank you.
Aww Frankie and Dogio sharing the couch, lovely to see and 4:50 no it's not a ball Dogio , wonderful pepper there indeed
It is lovely to watch your videos, to see you work together and your sweet pets...here in eastern NC in the states and saddened by the devastation by hurricane Helene...
It looks brutal over there! Hope it’s over soon ❤️
Growing up in the 70s my frienda and I made most of our cloths and it was a folk tale that if a butterfly lands on you that is the color of material you will soon get to make your next dress. We loved maxi dresses which are long country dresses. I love your art.
I just love Diago he runs & jumps & watches everything you guys do. Just a pity his 4 paws can’t work on the farm. That’s what I used to think of when I had 4 cats-all those unworkable paws lol Australia 🇦🇺
What a graceful talent. Love watching you sketch.❤
Sorry to hear that Ali passed away. It's going to be good to watch the garden grow in the rain.
I absolutely love your videos! They are so artfully done, so calm, just wonderful. Thank you.
There was a time when I didn’t have a lot of money to spend on gardening, including store bought compost. A friend of my parents suggested inoculating the soil with water that had a small bit of compost dissolved in it. Just dissolve a few ounces of compost in a few gallons of water, stir and let sit for a day. Then pour through a coffee filter into a watering can (I’ve seen people use an old French press for this 😂). Water the soil at night. A little goes a long way, which is the point. :-) Good to see Frankie scampering about.
Oh man that rock garden at new cottage looks AMAZING. Your place is stunning, lots of love and hard work has gone into it. Beautiful! Much love, Jenny, Cape Town.
Gorgeous video! Love what you've done in the garden and, Carissa, your butterfly encounter and drawing have me endlessly swooning:) Love!
It's also interesting to see what the soil did deep down when you moved the beds.
Garden is looking great guys!! Lots of hard work hey?? Will be expecting harvest videos soon!! Heh heh!!
Hello Iwan and Clarissa! I’m sorry about your chicken, that is always sad, losing an animal. I love how serene your videos are, you are definitely improving in every way! ❤
Sad to hear about your loss. Hopefully it will bring about many marigolds as a renewing of life.
that butterfly would be gorgeous on a t-shirt
I saw Swallowtail butterflies in Mallorca. Couldn't believe how beautiful they were. Here in the UK our butterfly population has sadly decreased this year, along with bees, due to the terrible summer we had. My buddleia bushes are normally smothered, but this year hardly any. Love watching you every Saturday, makes my weekend complete.
Wonderful Drawing, thank you guys, have a lovely week
Sorry about the loss of your chicken. It was nice to see you draw the butterfly. As always, an enjoyable relaxing video, thanks for sharing.
Beautiful swallowtail, beautiful pen and ink, beautiful string quartet. Wonderful video❣
Thank you so much!
love the peaceful in yours videos
Great video. Sorry about Allie, she will be forever on "her farm".
Sorry for the loss it's horrible when you loose a pet. Great video your drawing of the butterfly was lovely ❤
Good morning, Carissa and Iwan. I’m sorry that Ali passed… you gave her a good life❤️😔
It makes to have the raised beds close to the other veggie beds. I love swallowtail butterflies. We had a black swallowtail caterpillar on our parsley this summer. Unfortunately, it did not survive the pupate stage😔 Your drawing is lovely, Carissa. See you next week❤️❤️
lovely video, the time lapse of the clouds at the end with the dramatic music was amazing x
Diogo is a very happy dog to be rescued by you.
I have several of those Vego beds and love them. I have moved them several times and it is quite a feat. I moved my support bars down to the next level and it keeps them out of my way when I am working in the bed I think you could move them down even further and they would support the sides even more, but then I would be hitting them all the time when I am planting. Love your videos!
great job this week...garden looks amazing
Love the art interludes ❤ the butterfly is beautiful.
Coriander all the way! Love it.
Nice video. Your butterfly is awesome. Aerial shots are beautiful. ❤
Another gorgeous video from Carissa, Iwan and furry/ feathered friends. Sorry to hear of Ali’s passing, but she had a wonderful life with you! Thank you for sharing your life with us all- you bring me great peace and happiness spending this time with you. Carissa, you have a wonderful artistic talent, and your style is very unique. ❤️💐🇨🇦
You make lovely videos. Great to see your progress.
Carissa, your art reminds me of an Australian artist called Christabel Blackman
Rest in chicken paradise Ali 💖
For your garden - have you ever tried the full water bottles upside down in the garden to create a drip? Good for letting the water get low slowly where soil may have become hydrophobic
I agree 👍...this and the Mindful Narrow Boat 🎉
Wow. The cloud camera work at the end.😉✊❤️❤️❤️
Sorry about the hen. We all hurt knowing this.❤️
✊❤️
Beautiful Tigar Swallowtail Butterfly, just love ❤️ a garden with Butterflies, Bees & Dragon Flys. Your Garden is l👀king fabo. Your really making progress Bit by Bit well done, you are truly gifted with your Artwork it is amazing.🥰
Another great vlog.
Nice ink drawing! I've done many an ink drawing in my 69 years on this earth. My hands are a bit "unpredictable" these days to be drawing in ink. You can't get rid of any mistakes in ink drawing, so you either go with it, or start over.
Bob Ross always said we don't make mistakes we have happy little accidents, my mantra in drawing ❤
Iwan, playing with Diogo was so funny, he has so much jumping energy, he always looks like he is so happy to be home! He also appears to love Frankie and the kitties and Carissa and you. So glad you got some rain and hopefully the fire threat is all but gone for the season.
Love your videos, your editing is my favorite of all the Homesteading You Tubers. So many think they have to “perform” for content. Both of you are beautifully natural…truly a fun couple who draws your audience in to feel as though we are all friends. Keep up the good work…winter’s coming.❤❤
Thank you for such a lovely comment! ☺️
Diogo that’s my pepper 😂🤣
Love the butterfly 😁
❤️😁
If you like rocket you must also love nasturtium, the leaves are delicious and the only remedy I know that can stop an insistent cough. 👍
Must one chew the leaves or how do you take it? Thank you
Your cinematography is stunning. Well done you.
A hearty Condolences to you n to her family❤...
Absolutly beautiful thank you so much from Holland❤
Ooh, some people find that cilantro leaves tastes like soap. I prefer the coriander seed taste, which is what goes into coriander powder and is used in Indian cooking. Totally different smell and taste from the cilantro leaves.
Oh Frankie 😘 My Australian Shepherd years ago used to eat all of the Italian plums that fell all over the wild parts of my property in California. Definitely did not help his weight either. But, at least there aren’t any pits in the figs. 🐶
beautiful art.
Sad to hear Ali has passed away look forward to seeing her marigolds thrive & flower
I think the butterfly came to check on you see if you were all ok why she lingered a while (beautiful drawing )
Have you ever watched ( “ the Meaningful narrow boat” ) ?
Vanessa does some remarkable art work on wild life birds bees & mini beasts well worth a watch you won’t be disappointed
Thank you Foggies for a beautiful vlog
That swallowtail is gorgeous ❤️
Great video! And I learned something! I did not know Coriander is Cilantro! I eat and grow cilantro! But I never ate the seeds. I can grow them year round here if I place them in the shade and give them lots of water in the summer. I plant them in pots. I give them 2-3 hours of direct sunlight as apposed to fall-spring , I put them in direct sunlight, at least 6-8 hours. My seasons/weather is like yours. Have a great week!
The garden space looks great!
Your veggie patch is really looking lovely! I am also a coriander fan and approve of all the aromatics 😅 So sorry about Ally, but I am sure she will reward you with many cabbages😊 After being away, it was delicious to revel in your video with a cup of tea and my favourite armchair. Thank you
Coffytime at the Foggyfarm. 2 cups to start my day. 😁👍Great idea to clear the living space around the New cabin, and that big Garden area is awesome. Dodo hopping to git that pepper had me krakkin up😂🤣😂hes too much💙funny guy. Glad to see the much chipper mornings, we are about 40F here already and its been 80-85F in the day. Im ready for 60F❄️❄️. Long summers wear me out. Be blessed , anxious to see the inside cabin progress. And what a butterfly!👍👍
🙏🙏🙏Romans 10 :9-10
.oooohhh poor Ali, you must be devastated 💔💔 xx
Beautiful garden 🌸🍀🌼
So sorry about Ali, sad loss of a dear friend but she had a good home for her life. All part of the circle of life. Can I ask what the music is on the last 1minute of the video, I looked in your music links but can’t find it (probably my impatience going through them all) It’s very soothing. I do notice your music and you always pick good background for what you are showing/doing, just in case it helps to know those choices are recognised.
Looking good, will you get your shower done before the cold weather sets in? Well done you two!
That’s the plan! 🤞
Our most successful root crop in the South East has been beetroot and carrots. I think we will try some raised beds next year.
Such a pretty drawing of the butterfly! Have you considered having it as a downloadable coloring picture/ page.
Great video. Love the butterfly pic. Music is always great.
"Life and Loss" OH MY! You opened with Frankie in a full frame. Thank goodness the loss was not her. I had to look up "autumnal" It is a British use of autum that we don't use here in the U.S.A.
Beautiful butterfly ❤
I feel for you with the liss of Ali. Chookies each have such unique personalities, but her place will always be in your heart.
Is it common practise to overwinter chillies in Portugal?
They really do! 🐓
I’m not sure if it’s common or not but we don’t really get frosts so they can survive in the greenhouse
@@FrankieOffGridI just watched a channel Melbourne Forest from Melbourne, Australia which is on a close parallel with our climate. She overwinters chillies and capsicum and she says they will grow for up to 10 years. They get a three month head start in production compared to seed grown.
Exactly, it’s a great system if it works 😅
That butterfly and sketching are beautiful. I wasjust wondering if the flies are bad yet? It looks like it.😢
Moving the raided beds was a good idea. Frankie, take hit easy on the figs.😂❤
29:45 thank you!
Beautiful drawing of that butterfly.. draw another one with part of your hand..
