It seems as though PTX fans can be some of the most sensitive on TH-cam? Not sure what you guys didn't understand about the statement "the VIDEO isn't anything overly impressive, it's just you seeing them on the screen - which I do like". It's crazy that some of you want to ruin the fun of checking out an enjoyable group with unprovoked negativity. The song was great, it won a grammy for its arrangement. The video was low budget & basic in concept.

Mitch is not doing a falsetto, he's a counter-tenor which means he can hit high notes as easily as some female sopranos. For a good look at high he can go try "Defying Gravity" by SuperFruit (Scott and Mitch). There's actually only been one change in the members. Avi left in 2017 and Matt replaced him. BTW people often say their favorite Pentatonix song is the one they just listened to.

There is what I think is a great informative video called "Beginner's Guide to Pentatonix". It gives a lot of great background on each of the members and how the group started, up through about 2021. Even a shot of the three primary singers together in high school.
The Grammy they won on this video was for Best Arrangement. Same with the video for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Yep, a cappella on an instrumental from The Nutcracker. The third was for their work with Dolly Parton on Jolene.

Since you asked, my suggestions are the Prayer, Imagine, and Mary Did You Know. For the record, they filmed this in a closet at Kevin and Avi's place for a grand total budget of about $400.

You have to understand that the Grammy's academy created a whole new category BECAUSE of Pentatonix! On top of that, Pentatonix is the ONLY acapella group to have their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

There is a great story about how they made this video. I can't remember it, but I'm sure others will fill you in. They won their first Grammy for this one. Edit: One thing I do remember is that the contacts hurt Kevin's eyes, hence the sunglasses. They also irritated Avi's eyes, and you can see the redness. Suffering for your art! The Kanye song that you are thinking of was, I believe, called Stronger.

They actually can rap as well. Check out their Macklemore & Ryan Lewis cover of Can’t Hold Us. Two of my many favorites that, in my opinion, don’t get enough recognition are Sing and Gold(Arianna Grande cover). Gold really shows Mitch’s high range. It is also a good one to listen to that shows off how well they do live.

This is really more of a mash-up than a medley, since they return to songs already covered as they go. Sam seemed to know all of the songs, but here are the titles: Technologic, One More Time, Get Lucky, Digital Love, Harder-Better-Faster-Stronger, Television Rules the Nation, and Around the World (Kirstie sneaks this one in during Television Rules the Nation and in the final mash-up).
For PTX Christmas recommendations: just about anything will be great, but some of my favorites are Carol of the Bells, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (their 2nd Grammy), That's Christmas To Me (original), Please Santa Please (original, newest video).

Love that you’re continuing with PTX! A gentle correction, though: There has been only one change in the line-up since the group formed 12 years ago. The relentless touring and music production clashed with Avi’s need to be home more, so he parted ways in 2017 and is now enjoying a solo career with a better personal work/life balance. Matt Sallee was brought in that year as the bass singer, and you will see him in all the videos from 2017 on. Mitch and Kirstie’s looks have evolved, as tends to happen with young adults, but it’s always them (as well as Scott and Kevin, but they pretty much look the same.) Peace …

You can see the scar on her upper lip in closeups. It likely left her with a tendency to favour the musculature on the one side of her cheek. She has had surgery done about 5 or 6 years ago to correct that and do some cosmetic lip fill in her upper lip (and possibly lower lip). Not sure if that was connected to the side-smile issue, but I notice that she doesn't smile like that anymore.

If you are as yet unaware, this was recorded (audio) in Avi’s and Kevin’s closet and videoed in their kitchen-all for $400 and a little extra for a small amount of additional editing! And for this, they won their first Grammy!
You also need to realize that upon winning the 2011 Sing Off and receiving $200,000 and a Sony recording contract, they were dropped by Sony at the end of one week! Rather than give up, though, they started posting their own videos on TH-cam and built their own fan base. When these simple videos-done while sitting on a couch-started going viral, and after winning their first Grammy, PTX was re-signed by RCA! The bottom line is these extraordinary people, these geniuses, are mostly responsible for their own success! Oh, and they’re lovely, humble people as well! What’s not to love?

Just FYI, Avi is pronounced Ah"-vee.
Avi is the only member of Pentatonix who has left the band; his replacement is Matt Sallee (pronounced Suh-lee"). You can hear Matt in anything they've published in 2018 or later. I recommend "Sound of Silence," "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch," and a recent live stream of "Hallelujah" (Matt's solo in the second verse is spectacular): th-cam.com/video/FqphhPapkoc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL Also, Matt does some incredibly good singing in their new rendition of "Oh Holy Night" from their 2023 Christmas album.
I believe you're mistaking Mitch's head voice for falsetto; Mitch is a natural contratenor and is most comfortable singing at elevations that most sopranos have trouble reaching.

I recall the story of how this video came to be. First, they won season 3 of the Sing-Off, which meant they won the grand prize, I think it was $20,000 plus a contract with Sony. So they took the money and they all moved to L.A., in the same apartment complex. Then Sony backed out of the contract, saying that a capella wasn’t going to shell as well as mainstream music. So there they are in L.A. with no recording contract. Then an independent label called Fifgen said they would let them record in their studios. But when the day came for them to record it, Fifgen backed out of letting them use their studio. Pentatonix decided to record it on their own, and they used Avi and Kevin’s apartment (in the closet) and they used an iPad to record it. Then they took the recording to Fifgen to engineer it. The rest is history. They won their first Grammy for this, and the category was renamed as best arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella. They have since won 2 more Grammy awards, one for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and one for their rendition of ‘Jolene’ with Dolly Parton.

    • @UserHorologium
      @UserHorologium ปีที่แล้ว

Fifgen Films produced the video; they weren't a record company. Pentatonix was signed with Madison Gate, which existed to release soundtracks for films (and had only two part-time employees). Fifgen filmed and produced the video; it wasn't shot on Mitch's iPad (that was "Moves Like Jagger", their first video). The audio was recorded in an unused closet (obviously not in Mitch's apartment 😁) and the video was shot in Kevin and Avi's kitchen. The engineering for the recording was done by Ed Boyer, who is the best in the business for a cappella engineering

One of her features, and I am sure her husband agrees with me, that I find so attractive and appealing about Kirstie is that crooked little smile of hers that happens on just her right side. I have the same thing on my left side, and my wife says that is one of my most appealing little quirks. I also have the fact that I can do the Spock single eyebrow lift on the left. Avi=Ahvee was with PTX from 2011 in the singoff until fall 2017.
He was in the middle of a complete breakedown and could not stand up to the fast pace which did not really bother the others.
He went to California to be with his parents for awhile, camped with a friend for a few weeks and heading to Israel to
visit his brother and hike the Galilee.
He then headed home to his cabin deep in the mountains and forests of Tennessee.
He took time to heal and PTX would not allow him to use his name for three years and he is still not allowed
to record or perform songs he wrote while with PTX
2022 was a busy tour year as he and his band were touring all year. Europe, then the US, Canada then back to the US>
He has a very quiet and caring demeanor and stays mostly secluded in his cabin on his 1000 acres of land.
Before leaving PTX, he founded A Capella Academy. A 9 day A Capella school for youth from all over the world.
Ben Bram and Rob Deitz helped him found it and the three are deeply involved in the running of the Academy.
Because some of the young people are not able to pay their way. Avi holds a request by donation concert.
People text, message, call and email...their song requests for him to sing and they donate.
Avi is a classically/operatically trained singer, but his writing and solo work tend to be Folk and Western and light country.
I do not listen to the new PTX but do listen when Avi was with the group.

Only one member changed and that was Avi leaving and Matt taking over. The other 4 members are the same from the beginning.

just so you know....there has only ever been 1 personnel change in the group.....Avi was the original bass singer, and did so for the band until 2017...at which point he left for personal reasons, and was replaced by Matt Sallee. All the other members are originals, and still with the group.

He only meant the video, not the music. I think he really meant it's just a simple video. That was my impression anyway.

First time watcher and last time watcher.not only making shi up but also trying to clap back at fans in comment section "most sensitive" bruh..seems like you are the one sensitive to comments...(I'm not fan of pentatonix.just watching reactions on yt)

Ok Phil I'm going to make this really easy for you. There has only been one member change in the entire span of Pentatonix. Not numerous ins-and-outs and changing members all the time. That is an insult to Pentatonix and to their fans, especially considering the number of their videos you have reacted to. What, all black guys look alike?
All of the original members are featured in THIS video. Halfway through their career, Avi decided he wanted to go solo. It was very amicable and he even helped personally select his replacement which is Matt. So when you see 1 black guy in the video, it's the original lineup. When you see 2 black guys in the video, it's the new lineup. It's that easy. But it would be respectful for you to know all of their names. You don't even have to memorize them, you can print out a picture of the group and tape it on your desk where it can't be seen and label them. It shows respect.
And what was with the interrogation of Sam throughout the video? Your interaction with her was uncomfortably direct and confrontational. You were asking her questions, but like she was on a witness stand. I'm surprised you didn't swear her in beforehand. Why don't you try and be a little more conversational. I hope for Sam that this is not how you communicate when you are off camera. Maybe check yourself, go back and rewatch and see what I mean.
Allso, nothing special about this video? Really? Pentatonix picked up their first career Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental Or A Cappella for "Daft Punk" for 2014, and the video was made at home for $400 in a closet. Notice the round, lighted make-up mirrors behind their heads in a part of the video? You get the idea. Completely unique and innovative.
I think it would be better for us, and for Sam, if you would try to unclench.
Thumbs up for Pentatonix, thumbs down for you.
    ☮️ Steve

I had not heard this song from Pentatonixs before. loved it. Just a question but since there is some instrumental back up can this be called A Capella?

The Grammy they won for this song was in the category "Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella". The category title was actually changed by adding the "or A Cappella" the year this song won, so it could be nominated.

I believe you're hearing Kevin's beatboxing and mistaking it for real drums - a common misperception, because Kevin is just so good at what he does people think there must be real drums.
