Is there any oil on that thing? It sounds bone dry. Also, you need to figure out some kind of gauge pin, you shouldn't be relying in the grippers as much as you are to hold your paper. Otherwise, a beautiful resoration!
Very cool press. Here's a pro tip: always use red oxide primer on cast iron. It helps prevent rusting under the paint.
