Temp guns are super useful and easy to do quick checks on temps. My favorite tool and worth the money is a uvb solarmeter! Even with just one snake it has paid for itself in terms of bulb life and burn in time. Uvb is one of those things that was super stressful to get right, bit once I got the solarmeter i could relax and throw those dang uvi index charts out that make my head hurt. Lol. I know exactly what my snakes exposure is and could set up different basking areas with precise information. Well worth it!
