Maybe a camping loo, which is basically a drum bucket(like from Lowe's) lined with very strong plastic bag (construction trash bag) would be easier. Bury the contents and rinse out bag. Good for tent campers too.

And then, I hate making more plastic waste, so dumping my "bio waste" in a regular toilet, then taking the plastic bag outside and washing using a hose. it works for me. PS, I hate those outhouses. And I don't like walking along trying to find my way in the dark.

This very site is full of hints to keep safe when alone. Ex: when parking in a Cracker Barrel parking lot, get organized in daylight then retire to van after lot fills up later. If getting take out, get an extra cup/drink so it looks like there's another person in your party. Not trying to make anxiety worse, it is probably part of your grieving, but there is NO safe place. You already know this. As your grief mellows to warm memories, living the dream you shared will be the Best Way to keep him in your life. Make the Memory a Blessing! LIFE IS GOOD!!!
To melt freezer ice--- 1) open van doors 2) remove all items in freezer and put them in a garbage bag 3) put a fan that blows into the freezer in front of the freezer 4) run the fan for an hour 5) wipe down area Don't forget to put freezer contents back

Not that it really matters to those who aren’t concerned with being correct, but, what you called a shovel, is a spade. Yes, shovel & spade are different tools.; a shovel has a flat face ( think snow-shovel). A spade is for digging. It has a wedge face.
You need to get a 5 gallon bucket, put a pool noodle around the rim, throw a can liner in it, and use it as a toilet. It's much better and easier than copping a squat outside in full view of other people. You can use it inside your van, then just take out the can liner and throw it away. You can also grab a blanket, drape it over your doors, and use it as a cover so you can unload in private. I made mine for an emergency toilet for when I go fishing, and it works great. I would recommend making one, all it takes is a 5 gallon bucket, a pool noodle, and some duct tape... 😉👍💯

Keep ice in 84oz Bubba jugs. Last three days. Strain the melting water in a glass to stay hydrated. Don't try to chill soda and juice. Better to pack cooler full of ice and then pour liquid in amounts you want cold. Safety and planning is always your number one concern.

I agree with everything. But I use my shovel mostly for putting cable into the ground. So people don’t trip over them. IMHO enough solar and battery is important to work comfortably.
you don't have to dig. I lived in my 1989 Chevy for 2 years. I had a bucket that had sturdy double rims I would place 3 brown paper bags inside and use the toilet. then I would toss some lyme powder it would be good for 2 uses. I would always dispose of it at night. best places to park would be in the parking lot of theaters or under passage ways.

If you are an ice cube user, then one of those countertop ice makers would be the #1 ticket for me. Ice in under a minute. Can use bottles water and only as much as you need for the amount of ice you need. Unused ice goes back to the reservoir to make ice later when plugged back in. It makes ice in just a couple of minutes....and it's small, like 12x12x12.... so easy to stow.
I think I’d get myself a winch. Just incase you get yourself really stuck. Or you wake up in the desert after a monsoon and you’re truck has sunk into the ground.
We used our e-tool (the shovel) in the Infantry for that, as well as digging and taking someone’s head off. A little tip… after digging your cat hole, fold the shovel over at a 90 degree angle and you have yourself a one cheek seat! Keep up the great content!!! All the best…

You also need to carry a 2x2 foot piece of BC plywood, this way if you have to jack your van up on muddy or soggy ground you can place the plywood down first then place your jack on top of it so it will not sink when you try to jack your van up.
I assume that you have a microwave oven in there somewhere to heat up precooked meals with. That way you can grill one day any eat all week long if you grill different things.
I'd love this life one thing no one has answered me is the cost of a van such as this I bought a used motor home totally remodeling it except the chasis and engine were fine had a wife two children a Great Dane Missy female dog for they're a bit smaller. don't know if this is feasible for the van, but they do make small, plug in, portable ice makers that you could store somewhere while you don't need ice, and then just plug in and fill with water when you do need the ice

The massive block of ice attached your freezer acts like a blanket. This means less cooling goes into your refrigerator and the worst part.... It uses more electricity, cools worse, and works harder. And when it works harder it's dumping more heat into your van. You need to defrost frequently.

A foldable shovel is good to have for many reasons.
The old faithful Army entrenching tool. We used them to dig foxholes hack brush and as a weapon. Always carried one in Vietnam.

don't know if this is feasible for the van, but they do make small, plug in, portable ice makers that you could store somewhere while you don't need ice, and then just plug in and fill with water when you do need the ice

The massive block of ice attached your freezer acts like a blanket. This means less cooling goes into your refrigerator and the worst part....
It uses more electricity, cools worse, and works harder. And when it works harder it's dumping more heat into your van.
You need to defrost frequently.
